"Why do I have to deal with this!" Ebi's water whips lashed out, slashing the grass and trees around her. Jazz tilted his head to the side slightly dodging an errant tree branch. He sighed.

The teachers had returned him his items and clothes. Luckily, they didn't destroy his capsule, but his clothes were riddled with holes from where Ebi's water spears pierced his body. He wore the clothes without complaint, but whenever any of the teachers tried to speak to him or ask him questions, he'd simply stare at them with a light smile until they left the room or blew up in anger. Eventually, Pongitsune approached him and told him that his teachers had been picked.

...

"Teachers?" Jazz had asked. "Why two?"

"Well…" The fox-woman, a Kitsune, began nervously. "I'm sure you can tell… the others don't like you."

"That's fair." Jazz leaned back.

"Wait… you aren't mad?" Pongitsune asked.

"Well, you haven't insulted me, so I have no reason to not be cordial, if you started insulting me out of nowhere without taking into context my feelings and emotions, I'd not spare any regard for politeness, but out of respect I'll remain civil. Besides, I already know I wouldn't be popular, I mean, who would want to be around a supposed active cannibal? I understand the context for your fellow teachers' anger, but I am more than a little agitated over the fact that apparently I had been turned into a shish kabob and had my eyes gouged out. If not for something almost two weeks prior, I wouldn't be alive right now, so despite my currently calm appearance I'm actually still extremely upset and angry, but there's no point in me being rude about it. I want to learn something from you all, so I'll have to suck up any hard feelings and listen in as long as I'm taught effectively."

"Thank you for your kindness." She bowed lightly. She then went in to explain that Jazz's teachers would take shifts training him. Since he was considered an adult by standards of training, and due to his circumstances, it would be best to keep him from interacting with the children, both for the academy's sake and his sake, as many of their families suffered under the hands of humans.

"Do humans never come to the academy?" Jazz asked.

"Rarely, not many human children or parents are comfortable with the scrutiny, and most monster-kin parents are wary of humans, so it can be dangerous."

"That's weird, I see a lot of animal-like people everywhere though?" Jazz asked.

"That is a very recent thing, about 10 years ago, there were a lot less animal-type people than there are now." Pongitsune smiled wryly. "A scientist invented a drug called animorphaline that could turn a normal human into an animal-type person. With so many people turning into animal-type persons, the stigma against them lessened, as a byproduct, the stigma against monster people lessened too, but unfortunately, there are many evil monster people like there are evil humans and animal people, but we monster people are born with innate magic that can make us dangerous. But I digress, ultimately, the King of the World, King Furry, was one of the people who turned. He then went on to become king of the world in a landslide victory and enacted sweeping changes in the law to protect the rights of animal people and monster kin. It was only until 4 years ago that it was legal to sell the corpses of monster kin to create enchanted jewelry and magical pills. So when we thought you ate the immortal Phoenix purposefully…"

Jazz nodded, "I understand, thank you for teaching me."

"I'm surprised you weren't scared of or distrustful of us solely due to our appearance though." The fox-woman giggled. "I'd not have thought there would be open-minded humans like you."

"My parents taught me well." Jazz sighed as he leaned back. "Okay, so who are my teachers?"

"Your first teacher is Warrick, he is that werewolf you met. Actually, I'm curious, how did you know he was a werewolf and not a wolf-man? The full moon wasn't out yet and he was indoors."

Jazz replied, "I didn't fully know, I just assumed a wolf-man would probably be treated differently than a werewolf. If bitten by an infectious wolf-man, all that would happen is that you'd turn into a human during the full moon, if you're already a human, there's no worry, a werewolf is probably different in a lot of ways."

"You are right. Wolf-men are mutations in the werewolf family. A werewolf normally turns during the full moon, but some like Warrick can transform anytime. Unlike wolf-men, werewolves can control whether their bite infects someone, so if a wolf-man bites a monster-kin…"

Jazz nodded and leaned back, "ah… so wolf-men can blend in with humans and animal people who don't mind becoming a variation of that, but monster-kin and animal people who don't want to have to go through such a transformation every full moon don't like to associate with wolf-men." He cocked his head, "but… don't you risk turning into a werewolf being near werewolves?"

"Nope, werewolves can't turn other monster-kin and half monster kin." She looked at Jazz, "umm, how far are you planning on leaning back?" She had noticed that at this point it looked as if Jazz was lying on the air with only his rear planed on the flat stool.

"Oh? Sorry," Jazz leaned forward into an upright position. "So Warrick is my first teacher, he didn't seem to like me the most, but I can handle that as long as he actually takes the time to teach me. Who's my second teacher?"

Pongitsune looked nervous as she continued, "well…"

"Dammit! Dammit! Dammit! I have to babysit this freak!?" Ebi paced back and forth angrily.

Jazz was the exact opposite, humming and sitting cross-legged in contentment. After he was told that one of his teachers would be Ebi Mizu, the water-woman, his first thought was to laugh bitterly. But his second was of how best to handle the situation.

"Brat!" The woman turned to Jazz, red-faced.

"Yes ma'am?" Jazz asked in the most respectful, innocent way he could. "I'm sorry if it looked like I was distracted, it's a little cold meditating outside with all the holes in my clothes." He looked at his clothes, riddled with holes and faded and washed bloodstains, courtesy of the yokai in front of him. Smiling, he added, "though I'm so thankful that you and Warrick would be kind enough to give me transformation seeds. I heard that it takes a lot of time and effort to grow them."

Ebi bristled in fury, but she had no real response other than hurling more insults. "Turn your damn face away from me! I don't like this at all, I'd rather just leave you on the side of the road to die!"

"I thank the teacher for her insane level of tolerance. Not only did she almost kill me on account of mistaken identity, but she wants to murder me as I'm in such a vulnerable position." He cupped his cheeks. "Oh how loved I am!" After about a minute, Jazz got up.

"Finally, you finished, took you long enough!"

"I know, right teacher? This foolish student apologizes, he knows being given death threats is no excuse for not being able to concentrate…" he made a sad face, "I'll reflect on my actions and smile more when you threaten me ma'am…" he beamed at the woman.

"Are you doing this on purpose?!"

"Doing what on purpose?" Jazz looked shocked, "are you implying that my devotion is fake? But teacher, have I disobeyed a pertinent school order that doesn't infringe on my rights?"

"…no."

"Then esteemed teacher, have I made any aggressive moves towards you? Have I attacked you physically, pushed you, spat on you, or otherwise done something directly or indirectly to do you harm ever since you've taken on your position as my tutor?"

"N-no…"

"Then, perhaps I've insulted you? Have I made any reference to you in a negative light? Such as, for example, did I call you a murderous bitch?"

"No…"

"Ah, then teacher…" Jazz smirked, "I cannot believe I'm saying this, but I'm genuinely hurt." He held a hand to his chest. "I understand the tension between humans and monster kin I genuinely do. And I understand that humans are the ones generally at fault, I'm not going to make platitudes or whataboutisms about human sin and aggression, but I'm not going to simply wash my neck and get killed, nor will I listen to you gripe about all your issues if you simply want me to listen and hang my head in shame. Because I adhere to the idea that it could have just as easily gone the other way." Jazz shook his head. "If you'd like, I'll speak frankly to you from now on, but I have a name if I hear 'Bastard', or 'asshole', or 'this freak, this prick, loser, monster, cannibal, fa'-".

"I get it!" Ebi growled.

"...fatty." Jazz smirked, "well, I'm glad we're in agreement. Oh, also, no attacking me for no reason, got it?"

Ebi nodded.

"Great! Thanks, teach! I look forward to your classes!" Jazz got up, "so, other than the meditation required to digest and spread the energy of the seed of transformation throughout my body, is there anything I need to do, learn, or say?"

"...No…" Ebi shook her head slowly as she suppressed her fury. "You completed the digestion and circulation of the transforming seed, it will take about 3 months for it to permanently become a part of you, but within a week, you should be able to begin practicing, outside of that, do your best to learn and understand the function of at least one item or animal, or perhaps, if that's too complicated, attempt to try and look like a person you like or have great familiarity with.

"Do I count as a person I like or have great familiarity with?" Jazz asked. "Oh, oh yeah where am I sleeping?"

"We're a school! Not a daycare!" She turned around and stomped towards the academy's building.

Jazz watched her leave, then let out a sigh of relief. "Fuck you, fuck you, fuck you, wasn't fun being screwed with, was it…" He looked down at his clothes. "These were my only fucking pair…"

"I HATE THAT BRAT!" Ebi wined as she downed another cup of alcohol. "He's so annoying! With his fake smile and fake politeness, the worst part is he's a good student! Whenever I tell him to do something, he gets it done, and he answers questions promptly. Whenever he's not knowledgeable about something he simply asks and acts grateful when I answer him. She hissed angrily, exhaling and preparing to pour herself another cup.

"You might want to slow down, you have to start teaching him transformations tomorrow." Pongitsune gingerly reached her hand over to his drink.

"Ah… shut up!" Ebi groaned, "Warrick is teaching him too, in fact, he's teaching him right now, so I don't think it matters if I'm not 100% tomorrow, besides, maybe the headache from the hangover will make me feel better than the bull he's putting me through right now."

"Don't be like that Ebi, it's only been a day." Pongitsune attempted to comfort her friend. Unfortunately, it seemed to have the opposite effect.

"WAAAAAN!" Ebi burst into tears.

"Having a meltdown already?" The two ladies turned to see Pondanuki walking over with a glass of sake.

"Ass!" Ebi growled, "you did this to me!" She pointed an accusatory finger at the Panda-Man. "Why did you make me one of his teachers?"

Pondanuki sighed and sat down. "Simple." He closed his eyes and took a sip of wine. "Because I don't trust him, even if he is telling the truth. So I need the teachers least likely to ever warm up to him to teach. Also, both you and Warrick are skilled, but your knowledge is relatively shallow, you can cover topics and techniques regarding transformations that the other cannot, and with two of you taking shifts, it shouldn't take longer than 5 months to be done with him."

"Hmph, weren't you the one that accepted him?" Ebi remarked.

"That's because, on the off chance he spoke the truth, we really did do wrong by him. As it is when he 'graduates' we will be able to see the truth."

Pongitsune looked sad as she rubbed one of her fox ears, "I hope Warrick isn't having a bad time."

Warrick was having a bad time.

At least, he wished he could say he was having a bad time. He looked at Jazz, who was dancing happily in the form of a humanoid clad in a red suit with dinosaur motifs.

"Go Go Power Rangers! Dun dun doo doo do! Go Go Power Rangers-"

"Calm down." Warrick groaned.

Jazz turned just as the transformation ended. "Sorry, it's just, wow… it felt really weird."

"Weird how?" Warrick asked.

"Like I was wearing the uniform and helmet."

"Technically, for those 30 seconds, you were."

"Huh?" Jazz asked.

"Henkaku no geijutsu, or, the Art of Transformation, was developed jointly by a legendary Tanuki and Kitsune. The Tanuki developed the appearance of the form, creating nearly real-life illusions, while the Kitsune developed the substance, having the ability to turn illusions real. Eventually, they pooled their talents and created the transformation seed. As I'm sure you've experienced, eating the seed will fill you with mysterious energy, and you'll immediately be able to transform once you fully digest the seed, but just because you can transform doesn't mean you've mastered it."

"Yeah…" Jazz nodded, "I only lasted 30 seconds."

"Normally new students last 5 seconds, so that is impressive." Warrick nodded, then gripped his head, "how did you acclimate so quickly… it's not even been a day…"

Jazz shrugged, "I don't know, I was training after the session with Ms. Mizu."

"Training… magic?"

"Nope." Jazz pulled up his sleeve, revealing the 10 kg weight.

The werewolf raised an eyebrow in interest. "You are a martial artist, right?"

"Yeah." Jazz nodded.

"Well, let's see it."

"Huh?"

Warrick nodded, grinning fiercely, "my job today was to listen to you describe how you were feeling after eating the seed, since you already passed the first step, there's not much to do, so I might as well observe how you're training."

Jazz nodded, "alright, I hope you can keep up though."

Warrick laughed. "Please," he said dismissively. "I'm a regal noble werewolf, I don't think I need to break a sweat to keep up with a simple human."

Warrick wished he had kept quiet once he observed Jazz begin to train. The first thing Jazz did was demonstrate the weight of the wrist and ankle weighted clothes. 'Hmph, alright, they truly are around 10 kilos each. What's he going to do, walk around?' He watched as Jazz broke into a sprint. Following Jazz for the first thirty minutes was easy enough, but eventually, that minute became 2 hours. 'Alright, I'll admit he's impressive for a human.'

Jazz moved on to calisthenics, push-ups, sit-ups, burpees, pull-ups, and a whole host of other workouts. He would do standard and one-limbed variations back to back, with little rest time between each set and exercise. After another hour, he was done. 'Impressive workout routine…' Warrick couldn't help but admire Jazz's dedication, he was definitely up there in terms of human strength, agility, and flexibility. Then, Jazz blew away his expectations. Jazz closed his eyes, and Warrick felt the boy's ki circulate throughout his body. Before his very eyes, the ki gathered in the boy's core then multiplied, Jazz immediately bulked up. His physique, which had been lean and well defined, now morphed in such a way that his muscles became well defined to the point that Warrick could trace the contours. He also appeared to be taller and a bit bulkier, but due to Jazz's normally lean physique, it was not to the point of becoming bulky.

"W-what?!" Warrick gaped at the form.

"Oh…" Jazz began, "this is based on Master Muten Roshi. He has a technique he utilizes before he launches a full-powered Kamehameha, it increases his size and power, but decreases his size, I experimented until I emulated the technique, it's sort of like when one charges a ki blast, concentrate their energy into one spot and whatnot, the difference being, I concentrate the energy within me, and spread it out without converting it into an attack. For a temporary amount of time, my power skyrockets by 50%, and my speed doesn't lower because I didn't make myself too bulky." Demonstrating the power, Jazz lifted a boulder larger than his body and threw it 20 feet into the air, as it fell down, he smashed into it, breaking it to pieces. Warrick stared, shocked. Jazz was quite strong, but with this technique, he almost caught up to Warrick in power.

"Astounding!" Warrick shouted, excitement filling him. 'He could be the one…' he thought excitedly, then he held himself back. He remembered Pondanuki's words and stifled his excitement. "Erm… you are quite powerful. I am truly impressed."

"Thanks…" Jazz said absentmindedly. "It only lasts a few seconds though, and my energy drains rapidly afterward."

"Still, I am impressed, if you are that talented as a martial artist I'm curious as to why you'd even bother to learn transformation."

Jazz held a hand up "can you go over the general rules of shapeshifting transformation?"

Warrick nodded, confused. "Alright, when shapeshifting, you can transform into anything you can imagine. You must have at the least a passing understanding of how the object works, for this reason turning into inanimate objects is normally easier. The more focused the concentration, the less likely parts of the transformation resemble your original form, which supplants the transformation. Ah, and your strength is the same as it is originally, no matter your size and shape."

"Alright," Jazz asked. "And how do the transformations work?"

Warrick finally nodded in realization, "materially and weight wise, the item is almost indiscernible when compared to the original item. And if you understand the internals of an item, when you transform into it, it functions as normal…"

Jazz nodded, "this includes something as simple as a pair of scissors, or as complicated as a rocket." He thought back to his reality, the Saturn V rocket could move at over 15,000 miles per hour, and a special ship called the Juno SpaceCraft as recently as 2017 could go up to 165,000 miles an hour. He had no idea how either worked, but he was friends with the richest, smartest girl on Earth. He flinched, 'I should probably visit Bulma soon…' he thought.

Warrick nodded, "you're quite astute to be thinking of using it offensively, realize, however, such a stunt will burn your stamina."

Jazz nodded, "I can recover relatively quickly, so I'm not too worried."

"Well, if you feel you are up to it, I will begin instilling all of my expertise into you, human. It will be grueling, so no crying."

Jazz laughed, "I already cried. When Ebi destroyed my clothes."

"..." Warrick sighed.

Afterword:

For those Wondering, Warrick's power is somewhere in the upper 50's to mid 60's before transforming into a werewolf. ManWolf (the guy who fought Roshi) was surprisingly powerful for a self-taught person, so I pegged the werewolf formas something akin to maybe a 2x multiplier. I include monster kin because monsters are included in the story of Dr. Slump, and since Arale exists in the same Dragon World, fantasy monsters, including Vampires, Werewolves, and various Yokai and other eastern fantasy creatures exist. Which will lead to something coming soon lol. Look forward to it!

Oh, for other name origins I forgot about. I forgot to mention the Wizard's name, Rosuto? That's just Roast, but pronounced like you were reading Japanese Romaji. Ebi Mizu, Mizu means water, Ebi is Shrimp, lol. Food related stuff. Following that food motiff, Warrick's last name is Suteki, meaning steak. The name Warrick is of German origin, meaning "Leader who defends", which will match his position as the strongest of the Monster-Kin in the Academy.
