(Events between Jazz's training in the southern school to his new job protecting Miguel alongside Hercule.)

Chi-Chi had been training with her father almost nonstop. From sun-up to sun-down, he'd teach Chi-Chi all he knew about physical strength and technique, and even passed down his patented ax technique. After 3 months, he introduced Chi-Chi to her mother's Kenpo style, which emphasized the advantages of women and girls over men and boys, namely, natural flexibility and naturally greater patience.

"Chi-Chi" The Ox-King had begun sagely, "Most men look down on women martial artists for several reasons, they tend to not gain as much physical strength, speed, or stamina, and unfortunately, flexibility only does one so well. Between the top-trained men and top-trained women, 8 out of 10 times, a man will win if it is a feat of direct strength or speed being tested. However, that doesn't mean you can't win, and it doesn't mean you won't win if you try hard enough." He smiled, "Master Roshi tried teaching me ki, but I simply could not master it. I would have hesitated, but looking at your dedication, I decided to teach what I learned to you…"

Chi-Chi had then spent two more months training and attempting to master ki, during this time, her father would travel, with her by his side. Eventually, they ran into mysterious masked martial artists asking about the whereabouts of powerful and young martial artists.

When they encountered the Ox-King and Chi-Chi, they asked them to follow. Naturally, the two hard-headed people refused, and they got into a fight. Chi-Chi's first real fight was likely the most difficult thing she'd ever experienced, she was without the laser or throwable blade from her helmet, and had traded in her battle armor bikini for a traditional gi and travel clothing. Punching and kicking the men and women trying to grasp her was both frightening and exhausting, but eventually, they knocked away ten of the assailants, forcing the rest to retreat.

Exhausted, they had begun to return home only to see a waiting force nearly ten times as large, and led by a young teen girl maybe only a little older than Chi-Chi.

She wore a modified qipao china dress, green in color with gold flower embroidery. Underneath that was a form-fitting black full-bodied compression suit that covered all parts of her body except for her head, hands, and feet. She wore gold bracers and shin guards, looking about half a centimeter thick and going from the base of her wist to just before the elbows for her arms and the base of her ankles to just below the knees. She had sturdy-looking short boots on that were tied in three places and stood with her legs pressed together while standing tall, appearing like a military commander surveying her troupes.

"You…" She began, looking first over to the Ox-King then to Chi-Chi. "You two, you defeated some of my men, I am impressed with your skills, but wish you had simply complied. I don't wish to be messy, or cruel, but I have to set an example for my men." She beckoned to 4 muscular men and extended a limb out one at a time as they removed the weighted gear she had on.

"Who are you, and why are you after us?!" Ox-King growled.

"I am not after you per se." The girl smiled, "I am the leader of an organization by the name of Tsukimi. And I was looking to recruit skilled martial artists. My men…" she glared at her injured subordinates, who kowtowed before her, "...they were supposed to try and persuade you unless attacked first. I can assume that you were attacked first, and will apologize on their behalf. But, as I said, I have a group to represent." She smiled sadly, "so, since you were ganged up on, you can both face me at the same time."

"What if we refuse?!" The Ox-King demanded.

"Then I would ask to recruit you, or at the very least, in some other way repay this dishonor." She laughed, "but if you fear that the legendary Ox Demon King and his one and only daughter cannot beat the soft little PaoPao, well, truly a sad day for the world of martial arts."

At the provocation, Chi-Chi charged in first. She took out an ax and threw it with all the force she could muster. PaoPao grabbed the ax mid-air then tossed it upwards. She then began to lightly sprint towards Chi-Chi. The two clashed in a mid-air exchange of kicks and punches. Chi-Chi lost the exchange and was forced back further. Luckily, she hit the ground first and rolled. PaoPao nodded in approval, "using your flexibility, I'm impressed, your father is a good teacher."

"I don't need your compliment!" Chi-Chi began to strike with a series of quick jabs and slashes with her palms and elbow, every time PaoPao shifted, she'd raise a knee in an attempt to block a counter-attack, despite her foresight and natural battle talent, PaoPao was the more experienced of the two, and at least half her attacks made it past Chi-Chi's defenses.

"You're truly impressive." PaoPao began, "there was a boy whose strength was comparable to you for me when I was much weaker, he was crafty and skilled, and extremely surprising at times, and another boy, who had some fighting experience and general skill, and was as crafty, if not more at times. Both of them would lose to you purely in terms of combat sense, I really do want to make you one of my people."

"I don't care!" Chi-Chi felt her blood boil and gathered her energy to charge forward in a mad dash.

In the blink of an eye, PaoPao seemed to vanish from her view. Chi-Chi turned left and right, confused, then felt a weight on her head.

"Above!" The Ox-King charged forward, ax in hand.

Chi-Chi glanced up to see PaoPao balanced on the younger girl's forehead. "I love your hair." PaoPao smiled, "My hair gets frizzled quite easily you see, it gets full of curls and split ends, but it's still my hair, and I love it, but I can't help but be slightly envious. She raised Chi-Chi's ax and began to swing down on Chi-Chi, but the ox king blocked the blow, or at least, he tried to.

The strength of PaoPao's swing shocked the large man, who was blown back as the impact caused both axes to shatter. PaoPao leaped back and nearly touched the ground as Chi-Chi tackled her. This surprised the older girl, who barely blocked the thrust towards her neck. "You have strong killing intent, you would make an excellent warrior, and maybe even second in command, given your battle sense and bravery."

"Shut up!" Chi-Chi extended her hand forward as a wave of energy burst out, it was short and blue in color, but it blew PaoPao back a bit. The dazed PaoPao quickly got up but relaxed as she saw Chi-Chi's state.

Chi-Chi looked exhausted, the ki attack took everything she had to offer, and now her shaky limbs could barely keep her off the ground.

The girl smiled and rose to the air.

"Bukujutsu?!" Ox-King shouted in terror.

"Oh? You've heard of the air dance?" PaoPao smiled, "I learned it after approving of some technique exchange with the Crane School, I believe such a technique is useful in its versatility and practicality. But, you've shown me your signature technique and judging by your exhaustion, that was all you had. Truly impressive, it could have severely hurt me." Her dress had a hole in the chest, revealing a chest plate and front-facing stomach armor.

She unstrapped and dropped the armor, which made a heavy thud when it impacted the ground. "Since you've shown me your best, it's time I show you my own best." She took out a sword and a talisman. She began to concentrate on the talisman, then, held the sword in both hands. The sword began to glow in magenta energy. She swung the sword, which collided with the talisman and sent a massive wave of ki in the shape of a crescent blade towards Chi-Chi. The Ox-King leaped in front of her and the ground exploded in the impact.

"F-father!" Chi-Chi shouted with grief. The Ox-King's eyes were shut tight as he braced himself for the bloodloss, but turned around in surprise, realizing that he was fine.

"What?" He looked around quizzically, and noticed, 3 feet before him, a massive gash filled the earth, it was 4 feet deep, 10 feet long, and 4 inches thick, and curved slightly, almost as if a god decided to tear a furrow into the earth with a shovel. He looked up at PaoPao, who stood on her sword and smiled at the two, crossing her arms as if to invite them to continue fighting.

"We… what do you want?" Ox-King's tone was much more subdued.

"Well, perhaps an apology." PaoPao smiled, "it looks like the fighting spirit has left you, and I don't enjoy crushing those who surrender." She lowered to the floor. "Let us start over, I am PaoPao Dango, leader of Tsukimi, I am searching for powerful martial artists to recruit. I am willing to reward you for your efforts."

"What would you want me to do?" Ox-King asked suspiciously.

"Simple, I'd have you train my men, and help advise. You are the famous Ox-King, who amassed a great treasure, your insight would likely be quite rewarding." She turned to Chi-Chi, "and your daughter is impressive, very impressive, she'd make a great second in command."

"You aren't that strong!" Chi-Chi growled. "Goku was stronger! He was cooler too!"

PaoPao rolled her eyes, looking at Chi-Chi's flushed face, she guessed as to her relationship to the Goku person. "Sure, he is probably a little strong, what is he, your promised?"

"Not yet… I didn't ask him…" Chi-Chi looked down, "but a man should always ask a woman for her hand, it's destiny!"

"If I believed in destiny, I'd be lying in a ditch somewhere and my purpose would be serving a feast for crows with my body." PaoPao shook her head.

"You don't understand! He was like a prince! He road a cloud and saved his friend Jazz from the flames, he was so badly burned!"

PaoPao's mood grew cold. "Did you say Jazz got burned?!" Her killing intent caused everyone, including her followers, to move back in fear.

"U...uh... He's all better!" The Ox-King shouted in fear and shock, "In...in fact, I think he went to train at the Southern Transformation School! They should still have classes!"

PaoPao smiled. "Oh? In that case, let's go together."

"Together?!"

"Oh, you wouldn't be lying to me, right?!" PaoPao smirked.

"My daddy won't lie!" Chi-Chi roared.

"I don't hold stock in the words of fathers," PaoPao replied. "But fine then, let us go to this school." She snapped her fingers, and the muscular men came and strapped back on her weighted gear. She put on the dented golden chest plate and adjusted her hair and shoes. "Let us be on, then!"

"Jazz left 4 months ago." A woman who seemed half made of water glared at PaoPao. "It seems you addled by for too long."

"I see, no doubt he was disappointed with your poor teaching." PaoPao's response was just as icy. The tension in the room was palpable. "And, as I asked before, you do not know where he is?"

Warrick pondered, then thought, "Ah, the full moon, he heads over to a Southern Island, he has a friend training who sometimes transforms under the light of the full moon, so you might catch him there. I believe the names of the boys were Goku and Krillin. They are training under Master Muten Roshi."

PaoPao's eye's trembled and her smile widened. "Hmmm, the full moon occurred just yesterday, unfortunately, so we won't make it in on time. But…" She smiled, "a month's training from Master Muten Roshi would be enlightening." She turned to Chi-Chi and the Ox-King. "You two will be coming with me, as I know the Ox-King is one of Roshi's old disciples."

Before the two knew it, they were ushered unto a private jumbo jet and placed in first-class seating, there was even a specialized chair created large enough for the Ox-King to fit.

"I hope you enjoy the accommodations, I spare no expenses." PaoPao was sippling sparkling apple cider and had changed into a new china dress, this time red with gold dragon embroidery.

"How do you pay for all of this, and what do you use your men for?" Ox-King was suspicious, he didn't recognize the organization name, but from the uniforms, he remembered an Assassination Clan of Martial Artists and Ninjas by the name of Dango. He committed many crimes to horde and protect his treasure, but even he found assassins to be dishonorable.

"Well, I won't lie, we used to be assassins, but that changed when I took over, we had many organizations that wanted claim to our contracts, so we sold them to the highest bidder. I'm moving my men to security, espionage, and counter-terror jobs. The world president recently agreed to give my newly reformed organization a generous stipend and first dibs to bidding for contracts, unfortunately, money is hard to keep hold of when you care about the human rights of your employees and clansmen, so I need efficient trainers to increase my men's reliability, and another source of income soon. The Budokai Tenkaichi is coming up soon, so I believed perhaps if I won, I could use the quick cash flow to help keep my organization running until the contracts fall through."

"How can I trust that?!"

She leaned back. "I offer fully covered medical care, which includes dental, optical, and emergency check-ups and even mental health. I also have generous life insurance options and fair pensions."

Ox-King found himself nodding along.

"Daddy!" Chi-Chi groaned in anger. She didn't like PaoPao, the girl was arrogant and scary, and worse yet, she had an organization and people who followed her, as if she was a real princess. But for Chi-Chi, what bothered her the most was how strong PaoPao was. PaoPao was only one to two years older than Chi-Chi, but she was already twice as strong.

Ox-King rubbed his head sheepishly. "Sorry, hun…"

Chi-Chi shook her head and glared at PaoPao. "Why do you want to meet this Jazz person so much!"

"Do I need a reason to say hello to an old friend?" PaoPao said, "ultimately though, Jazz isn't my goal, Master Muten Roshi is one of the greatest Martial Artists to ever live. The fact such a great man is still alive is a testament to his wisdom, power, and temperance, such a man would be the perfect teacher for my clan's younger initiates. And his two disciples should be impressive as well, recruiting any of them would make this journey fruitful."

"Goku's way tougher than you are!" Chi-Chi shouted angrily.

PaoPao smirked, "I certainly hope so, I wouldn't claim to be the most powerful person on the planet, and I'd love to recruit strong martial artists."

Chi-Chi could only scowl in response. It seemed that PaoPao didn't feel anything about someone else being stronger.

Master Roshi trained like a madman. 'These boys are extremely impressive, and it's a little scary.' Roshi had been training Goku and Krillin for a little over 5 months. Their progress was astounding, they both contained a desire to improve themselves that he had only seen in his greatest disciple, Gohan. Thinking about their progress, he felt a pang of regret. He had sent them to find the "Sleeping Princess" more as a joke and a wild goose chase to get them out of his hair, but they returned with injured friends, and with Launch missing, yet, despite him sending them on such a dangerous mission accidentally, they apologized to him, asking that he not hold back in his training.

They both accelerated in strength and skill and at the moment were almost as strong, if not stronger, than him. He had even seen both of them push the massive boulder he placed as a test, and the even larger boulder he used as a new benchmark. Despite that, they accepted his explanation that the Turtle School taught body, mind, and spiritual development, and had no particular techniques, in fact, they trained with even greater gusto at that development. Roshi wanted them to keep this feeling in mind and believed that if they continued like this up to the Budokai Tenkaichi, they would win easily. He wanted to have faith that their experience was enough to instill the idea that someone was always better than them. Unfortunately, it seemed like Goku and Krillin believed that if they trained under Roshi, they would become unbeatable. That seemed to be their motivation, not self-improvement for just its sake. 'I need to be strong enough to still defeat them, if I slacked off, I'd be quickly overwhelmed… they have to understand that strength is nothing if one does not continually strive to conquer themselves.'

With these thoughts in mind, he trained in the middle of the night, and while the boys were sleeping. After about an hour of training, he retired to bed but looked up at the moon, then at the house. Despite himself, he had to admit that part of the training was in case he ever had to deal with the Oozaru. Goku wasn't yet fully cognitive when he was that giant monkey, but every month he seemed to become more and more lucid, whatever Jasper and Krillin were doing to help Goku prepare for the transformation and keep control, it really seemed to work. This giant form was naturally insanely powerful, the same massive rock Goku and Krillin struggled to lift was child's play to this giant Goku, who lifted the stone with one arm as if he was a toddler lifting a pacifier.

Roshi shook the thought from his head, ultimately, he did not fear the form, instead, he sympathized with Goku's plight. Whenever the form was mentioned, he'd become reticent, likely out of guilt for his grandfather's death. Roshi allowed the young boy to process his feelings and noticed with relief that Krillin provided a steady shoulder to rely on. He sighed and returned to the home, only to turn to the sound of a plane flying overhead.

"...Is that Jazz?" Roshi wondered. It would be odd, he had just been over the day before, helping Goku get the hang of the Oozaru form, and had stated that he was working so had to return relatively quickly. Perhaps he had forgotten something? Roshi's assumption was proven wrong when the plane landed, and instead of transforming, the helicopter opened its hatch and out walked the Ox-King, his daughter, and a second, strange, older girl in a qipao.

"Are you Master Roshi?" The girl asked, bowing slightly. Multiple men streamed out of the vessel and stood attention at her side.

"...Yes... do you need something of me?" Roshi was prepared for trouble and moved into a combative stance.

"Oh please, I'm not here to fight and lose, nor do I want to get on your nerves great teacher. I have come for two reasons, I wish to recruit you into my organization, and I wish to learn under you, I've heard recently that you have new disciples close in age to myself, so I wish to take the opportunity to grow as well. My name is PaoPao"

Roshi waved off his hand, "I have no interest in training a random stranger."

"I'm no stranger," PaoPao replied. "I am acquainted with one of your disciples, a clean-shaven monk child by the name of Krillin."

Roshi raised an eyebrow, "were you a student of the Orrin temple?"

"No, perhaps you heard of the 'flag collector?'"

Roshi narrowed his eyes, "you mean rumors of the girl who stormed multiple dojos, defeated their masters, and stole their banners?" He pointed to PaoPao, "do you mean to tell me you are that girl?"

Goku and Krillin, who had been awoken by the sound of the plane landing, had begun to listen in on the conversation. Krillin felt awkward approaching due to the atmosphere, PaoPao was a friend, but the atmosphere she held around her, surrounded by the stern-looking men and women, gave off a different type of hostility compared to when she was a sparring partner/mentor to him and Jazz.

Goku on the other hand gravitated towards Roshi's words. 'If she's conquered multiple dojos, she must be strong!' He began to confidently walk towards them.

"Well, if that's the case my answer is definitely…" Roshi paused as he turned to see Goku walk past him and towards PaoPao, he stuck his hand out.

"Hi! I'm Goku!"

Everyone else audibly gulped as they watched the short Goku holding his hand out and smiling. PaoPao took about 3 seconds to react, before finally laughing. "Goku? It is a pleasure, my name is PaoPao, if I am correct, you are also a friend of Jazz, correct?"

"Jazz!" Goku shouted, "you know him?"

"In fact, he, Krillin, and I, all trained together for a few months."

"Oh wow!" Goku replied wondrously.

Master Roshi cleared his throat. "Ahem, like I was saying, I just can't see why-" Roshi was cut off when Goku started hounding Pao-Pao with questions.

"How many types of martial artists did you fight? Were they strong? Are you strong? So you trained with Jazz? You're stronger than Jazz, right?" Eventually, PaoPao got fed up and turned to Chi-Chi.

"I think Chi-Chi might want to speak to you, you see, she's been training, but recently she's felt bad about her progress."

"Hey I didn-" Chi-Chi began.

PaoPao winked, "I'm sure you'd be happy to spend some time helping Chi-Chi train, right Goku?"

Goku was confused for a second, but nodded, "sure! If she wants to grow stronger, that sounds fun, and she's been being trained by that Ox-guy? He's pretty strong too!" He turned to Chi-Chi excitedly, who smiled with some embarrassment.

"I-I'm not that strong…"

"I mean…" Goku began, "Master Roshi is way stronger than me, I bet he can even blow away that Giant Monkey form."

"Oh! Oh right! Y-yeah…" Roshi began. "Now… where was I…"

"You were about to give your conditions for accepting my proposal and recruitment," PaoPao suggested.

"Yes, as I was saying, I'll need…" Roshi stopped and glared, "wait! NO, I WASN'T!" He sighed, "look missy, you need to stop, I'm not taking in any more disciples, two is more than enough."

PaoPao looked troubled, "but sir, I can offer you 100,000 Zeni, yearly, plus medical, if you require it. We'd provide a personal plane capsule for your personal use and subsidized insurance for your home and vehicles. We also have a fantastic vision coverage system."

"Are you calling me blind?!" Roshi shouted.

"Well… you are wearing sunglasses in the middle of the night Master Roshi." Krillin interrupted.

Roshi sighed, "look, that all sound nice, but real martial artists do not do work for mercenaries or assassins, I cannot in good conscience train a killer."

PaoPao nodded, "I understand…" She sighed, "it was so much easier learning from Master Shen and the Crane School."

"WHAT?!" Roshi seemed angry, "you went to Shen?!"

"Well, my family was in the business of Assassination, so I traded all of our contracts and expertise and promised to pull us away from the business in exchange for Shen giving us a few scrolls, training exercises, and lessons for me, and with his top disciples." She shook her head, "after I finished everything, I thought for certain the Turtle school would prove to be the better school, and I already swore off my days of assassin training, but… oh well, I guess the Crane School is better."

"How dare you!?" Roshi shouted, "Shen's school doesn't hold a candle to my own! In fact!" He turned to Goku, who ran up to him.

"Hey, Master Roshi! Ox-King and Chi-Chi want you to train her, can she join! She's actually pretty strong!"

Roshi turned and his heart nearly stopped. Chi-Chi stood in front of him, arms crossed and standing fiercely, but she had a massive black eye and was covered in several bruises, for his part, Goku had a few scuff marks here and there, but looked no worse for wear. "Please train me, Master Roshi!" Chi-Chi turned to Goku, "Is that how I should ask?" Goku nodded.

"Goku! You psycho! You aren't supposed to hit girls like that!" Roshi rushed Goku to the side. Goku shrugged.

"She said 'don't hold back.'" Goku smiled, "and she's pretty strong, I'm wearing the new weights, but even then she almost caught up to me." Roshi had moved Goku and Krillin to 60kg weights a week ago in response to how quickly they acclimated to the 40kg weights, so he was surprised that even while slowed, Chi-Chi somehow caught up to him and forced Goku to fight with some level of seriousness.

'This kid's going to be a terrible husband to someone one day if he punches women willy nilly, but… then again, he drop-kicked Launch when she shot at him…' He turned to look at PaoPao. 'I can't have him fight her! She'll get a black eye, then she'll press charges and I'll end up on some watchlist.' He bit a nail and turned to look for Krillin. He found Krillin chatting with PaoPao in an easy-going manner. He couldn't make Krillin fight her, the boy had a very noticeable soft spot for women, almost to the Turtle Sage's level, so having him fight was out of the bag.

"Ox-King!" Roshi shouted, "show this young upstart the Turtle school way!"

"M-master Roshi?!" Ox-King asked in shock.

'Sorry old friend, I need a fall guy.' Roshi smiled, "you were one of my greatest disciples, second only to Gohan, I believe you can defeat her and show her the superiority of my school."

"...Master, before Goku and Krillin, you only had two disciples ever…"

An awkward silence filled the air.

"...besides," Ox-King began nervously, "I… I lost to her already."

Roshi felt a headache, "you lost? One of my disciples lost to Shen's disciple…" He groaned.

"To be fair, I am not Shen's disciple, I simply learned some things from him." PaoPao offered, "but I ask, I would like to be your disciple, I see the limits of Shen's school, and wanted to see if the Turtle School was truly superior, perhaps you can demonstrate for us?"

Roshi groaned… "fine if I can show up that Shen bastard, I'll recruit you, and that Chi-Chi girl!" He shouted angrily. "I'll not hold back on training even though you're girls, so don't go complaining about hang-nails and messy makeup!"

PaoPao smiled, "I wouldn't dream of such a thing."

...

And so, the two girls joined Roshi's training, Chi-Chi started on the 20 kg weights, while Pao-Pao was able to skip directly to the 40kg, and had suggested adding more weight to Goku and Krillin, handing them 20 kg arm and leg weights made of a mix of gold and other heavy metals. Goku and Krillin bore a massive 140kg from all the weights combined, while PaoPao bore 160kg from the addition of the turtle shell weight. Chi-Chi eventually got used to the 20kg, and moved to 40kg near the end of the month, but then, something happened that shocked all of them. Goku was able to lift the massive boulder, and Krillin could even lift part of it and tip it over. Roshi had used this as a teaching moment, which had fired up the other disciples. PaoPao had been in the middle of the supplementary newspaper delivery (as she felt the milk delivery wasn't enough) and had been shocked to see a military helicopter flying towards Roshi's home.

She had assumed someone attempting to snatch the powerful hermit from under her grasp, and moved in to intercept when she saw the helicopter disappear in a cloud of smoke and her friend Jazz appear in its place. She smiled at the sight and walked over. Truly the boy seemed to surprise her every time they met.

Jazz widened his eyes in recognition. "PaoPao?"

"You've grown taller..."

Afterword:

Been a bit, sorry about that. Let's see… this chapter is basically what happened in the inbetween. Chi-Chi's motivation to train in the series was likely not very high in the original, but it was good enough that she gained a power level of 130 by the end of original Dragon Ball. Since she never had the crotch kicking incident, while she views Goku as someone she may potentially have some feelings for, she's more along the lines simply admiring his bravery and strength. As for reintroducing PaoPao? I wanted to give Chi-Chi a rival of sorts, or at the least, someone who would cause her to continue to train efficiently.
