"So, Jazz…"

It had been a few days since their adventure on Devil's Hand. Everyone had made a quick recovery, but Yamcha ended up flying out back to Capsule Corp to rest and get further treatment for his broken arm. Jazz had used his new ability, flames of renewal, to heal them, but recommended that anyone with something serious should go to a doctor to get it checked out. A few days and a phone call later revealed that flames of renewal set and began the process of healing, but it was akin to rapidly accelerating the body's natural healing process, and not the extreme regeneration Jazz enjoyed.

Jazz snapped his thoughts from that tangent and turned to face PaoPao. She was seated across from him on a bean bag chair, Krillin, Chi-Chi, and Goku were on stools eating snacks, and Master Roshi was reading a magazine in the corner of the room. Hercule and Miguel were taking a tour of the island, leaving PaoPao comfortable enough to finally confront Jazz.

"How did you know?" She asked pointedly.

"I really didn't, I just guessed." Jazz said, "I mean, the talismans and everything."

"Witchcraft and general talisman magic are different things Jazz, how did you recognize the runes on my talisman?"

"I…" Jazz scratched his head. "It was a guess."

PaoPao narrowed her eyes, "I see, I guess that is all our friendship is worth."

"Wait!" Jazz stood up.

"Then explain!" PaoPao jumped up, "Goku and Chi-Chi have informed me that you come from somewhere different from here, but you don't know how to get back home, you lacked ki as if you were dead, and even now your ki feels odd, now you have these supernatural abilities that can't simply be explained as ki or magic gained by discipline. Yet at the same time, you know more about this world you supposedly don't belong to than we know of you. Who are you Jazz? A spirit, a genie, a ghost? Is this all a game to you? You certainly don't seem capable of dying."

"I…" Jazz paused, trying to find the correct words.

"Jazz, I owe you much for the help you gave me when we first met, I would have died if not for your interruption, and for that, I am thankful, however, that doesn't mean I like the idea of being taken advantage of or lied to. Who are you, and why did you help me?"

"What?! What do you mean why did I help you?"

"The journey you took to gather the dragon balls, I found it odd that you, who had been a complete stranger and outsider, happened to recognize Bulma Briefs, who keeps a low profile outside of her city, it was even stranger that you managed to ingratiate yourself with so many people, then happened to "lose" capsule items only for them to appear on Capsule Corp's 'user registry' for items used and destroyed."

"User registry?"

"Basically insurance, for coverage of items destroyed before they could be used." PaoPao smirked, "Chi-Chi stressed how hot those flames were, and how difficult it would have been to make it through, from the words of your transformation school, the flames were caused by an evil Yokai wizard, how could you, at least, the 'you' I remember, defeat such a thing unarmed."

"So you proved I stole the capsules?" Jazz replied, "how would I know what the group had coming next?"

"Yamcha stated you laid back and he only fought Goku, yet Goku attests to your skill after my training, so when you saw Yamcha, why didn't you aid Goku?" PaoPao raised a hand, "these points lead me to believe you were using the group, as opposed to simply aiding them, but then…" she smirked, "you advised Bulma to willingly help Goku bring Turtle to the sea, and advised against her giving up Turtle to that Bear Bandit which got on Roshi's good graces, you also stated Goku was quite strong, even without facing him off. There are other things that I find unusual, if you were trying to steal the dragon balls and took the capsules to cripple their ability to catch up, you could have snuck out at any night, you put your life at risk entering the castle, but given the severity of those wounds and what impression I gleaned from you before then, you were mortal, and didn't rapidly heal, this leads me to believe you entered the castle knowing something there would grant you those healing powers, then there was the fact you used the dragon balls to leave after you were told you couldn't come home."

"Where did you get all this information?" Jazz asked.

"I asked around, it's not like it was a secret, was it? But piecing this all together leads me to believe one thing," she poked his chest, "you have some form or ability to predict the future, but it isn't perfect. Through luck, you end up meeting Bulma, then you save my life and get trained, you meet Krillin, who just so happens to become friends with Goku. Goku, who, despite having a tail, has no inclining of being able to transform under the moonlight, yet somehow you knew that would happen during your first venture on that godforsaken island, then you offered to train him to learn. How'd you know his tail was a weakness, and how'd you know that the weakness could be utilized to help him control his form? Given the power he displayed in destroying the island if you didn't train him, he might have destroyed the planet during a rampage You told him, you would help him overcome it, not that you thought you could, but that you would overcome it. I poured over thousands of documents, no shifting race recorded on earth acts like Goku, he's unique, yet you knew." PaoPao stood. "So, you don't need to explain anything to me Jazz, I don't think I'll believe you, since you don't want to be honest, nor do I owe you a chance to explain yourself if you require me already having all the info before you feel like being honest."

"-" Jazz began. PaoPao interrupted him.

"No, I don't want an excuse, I need a real explanation."

"You won't believe me."

"Try me."

"I come from a universe where this world is a manga, anime, etc. And so I have knowledge on major events centered mostly around Goku. I know what will happen in the future if it is information they happened to experience, I didn't know what caused the fire, nor did I know who you were, I also didn't know that my wish couldn't be granted."

PaoPao chuckled, "fuck you." She got up and left.

Jazz shook his head, "I told you…" He sighed.

"Well, I believe you."

Jazz wrinkled his nose in irritation. He turned to the woman with light blue skin and bright orange hair who was currently sucking his blood from his arm.

When the group had recovered somewhat, Jazz had awoken to an odd sight, a vampire stood in the corner of the capsule plane they were on, but instead of it menacing them, it was crying in the background. The vampire had called itself Trampire, saying that she was a noble vampire who had been invited to Devil's Castle on strict diplomatic business, but Lucifer imprisoned her.

"I thought I'd starve to death!" She whined as she gorged on Jazz's blood.

"Aren't you already dead?" Jazz sighed.

She stuck out her tongue, "no, vampires aren't mummies. But anyway, I have to thank you guys again, if not for you, I'd have died in there, Vampires can't swim, that Lucifer guy was a huge jerk."

"How were you able to live?" Jazz asked.

"Well, I love money and blood, so my hope for some cash and a bit of blood kept me around." Trampire smiled. "Anyways, all that's left is to borrow a phone and head back to Penguin Village."

"Penguin Village you say? So you know Arale?"

"Eh… that terrifying monster?!" Trampire shuddered, "don't remind me…"

"Anyways, are you done sucking my blood?" Jazz shook his head, "I don't want to die."

"Well… fine." The vampiress backed away. "Thanks again for saving me."

Jazz thought about how he had to offer his blood to make everyone else agree to not kill her. "Yeah...don't mention it." Trampire was short, about 4ft 5, making Jazz a literal head taller, and she wore a tight black leotard, thigh-high stockings, and white boots and gloves. Her cape was red on the inside and midnight blue on the outside. Despite her inhuman skin tone, she could be described as cute, though as a, in her words, "immortal noble of the night", she was likely decades or even centuries older than the age her appearance suggested.

Jazz sighed, normally, the discovery of the connection with Toriyama's original work, Dr. Slump, would have filled him with curiosity and intrigue, but the argument he had with PaoPao left him feeling down.

'Was I too obvious with my knowledge of the events of the manga, anime, and just in general? Actually, you know what?! Why does she care if I knew anything, I've been working my hardest to survive in this place, so I know about future events? There's a difference between knowing an event and freaking experiencing it, like… dammit…'

"Wow, the tournament is finally here!" Miguel was in a simple sundress and wore a wide-brimmed hat. It had been a month since the incident in Devil's Hand, and the tournament was upon them. Despite the fiasco dealing with a possessed Launch, Miguel found the entire trip fun and relaxing, prompting Seraphina to allow her to attend the Budokai Tenkaichi, ironically, she had also pulled some strings, allowing Miguel to perform in the same city, then slip out between bands in order to view the fights.

"I'm pumped up! And ready to bust some heads!" Hercule grinned, flexing his impressive biceps and pectorals. "I'll show these wannabes true power!"

"I wish you good luck." Jazz laughed as their trio approached some familiar faces.

"Jazz! Hercule! Miguel!" Krillin called out to them. He, Goku, and Master Roshi were dressed in sharp, black business suits and wore wide-brimmed black hats. Launch was in her blue-haired form and wore a black business skirt and suit, instead of a bow tie like the boys, she had a flowery blouse and wore a sunhat.

"Guys! It's good to see you!" Miguel ran up to Launch and hugged her. "I hope you are all doing well?" She turned to each of the boys.

"Yup! We've been training lots! Roshi let us remove the weights!" Goku laughed, "it's awesome!"

Hercule nodded sagely, "yup! I know exactly how you feel, I feel fired up!"

Jazz shook his head ruefully. "Are Chi-Chi and PaoPao competing?"

"Yup! They're already registered and inside."

"I see," Jazz nodded, "is PaoPao…"

"Still mad at you?" Krillin nodded. "I mean, that's honestly really silly Jazz, lying to her like that."

"Lying?" Miguel turned to Jazz, "what did you lie about?"

"PaoPao thinks Jazz can see the future, and he told her our world is like a comic book to him."

"..." Miguel frowned, "that's weird, how do you enter a comic book?"

"Can we not?" Jazz began, "it's fine if you don't believe me, but is me being able to see the future any more believable?"

"I mean, Goku can turn into a giant super-powered monkey, Master Roshi is over 100 years old, and I don't have a nose." Krillin offered.

"I… what?" Jazz shook his head.

Before they could continue they heard a familiar voice. "Hey! Hey guys!"

"Huh? Who are you?" Goku squinted at the newcomer, Yamcha, who now sported shorter hair.

"Goku? It's me, Yamcha!" He pointed at his scars.

"Yamcha?! Wow! You look different without your scars!" And like that, the conversation about Jazz's identity was dropped and forgotten.

'Why are they so nonchalant?!' Jazz groaned internally, it was like they weren't thinking deeply about the situation at all. But on the outside, he smiled brightly at Yamcha. "I look forward to seeing you fight!"

"Thanks!" Yamcha gave an easy-going smile, "I don't plan to win though."

"What?" Jazz asked quizzically.

"Well… I wanna see how far I've gotten." Yamcha smiled sheepishly, "my skills have sharpened from months of fighting those Oni, but I don't know if I've really gained any true, appreciable strength. I want to test myself against the world's greatest fighters, I'm aiming for you guys, Goku, Krillin, PaoPao, Chi-Chi, and even you Jazz."

"Wait…" Hercule began, "what abo-"

"Me?" Jazz asked, interrupting Hercule.

"You showed me something amazing in that last fight, I'm curious as to how the two of us would fair against each other." Yamcha extended his fist. "So if we meet in the arena, give me your best!"

Jazz smiled and pounded the fist, "definitely!"

"Goku?! Goku!" They turned to see Bulma, Oolong, and Puar running towards them.

"Bulma!" Goku rushed over, "Oolong, Puar!"

"Hey, Goku!" Oolong ran to grab Goku's hand, "It's awesome to see you again!"

Puar, Oolong, and Bulma took their time to speak to each member of the Turtle school, then Bulma turned to Jazz and flicked him on the nose.

"Oww!"

"Come on Jazz, you haven't called me once!"

"I came to your birthday Bulma!" Jazz grumbled.

"Oh yeah, you visited me once in the entire year, I feel soooo loved." She giggled sarcastically.

"It's good to see you too.." Jazz shook his head ruefully. "How's city life been?"

"Pfft. The same as always." Bulma turned serious, "after you guys register, I wanna talk to you, okay?"

Jazz nodded, "umm, alright?"

"Good!" She turned to Yamcha. "So… Yamcha! Are you ready?"

He nodded, "as I'll ever be, thanks again for coming."

"Like I'd miss my boyfriend's big debut!"

Jazz winced subconsciously as he watched Roshi tell his students that he needed to run to the restroom but would watch them compete. Sighing, he prayed that he would not have to fight Jackie Chun first.

...

"Name? Age? Martial Artist School or style?"

"Jasper Duncan, 15, multiple styles."

Registration was pretty simple. And after getting a contestant placard, Jazz went to go join the other prospective fighters for the preliminaries. He spotted Goku and Krillin, both of whom seemed a little nervous with all the fierce-looking fighters.

"Contestants, please pick your numbers!" Two men in monk clothing approached the fighters, holding a large box. "Once you grab your slip, be sure not to lose it! We'll only call you to fight once, so be sure to listen up!" The second man spoke, "we will call out 2 random numbers unto the board, the fighters with the corresponding numbers will step up and compete, you win by knocking out your opponent or forcing them out of bounds! We have a lot of fighters around, this time, 248, so we'll have 16 fighters make it to the ring for all the public to see, good luck!"

Jazz stared at his number, he was number 5, whether that was lucky or not remained to be seen. He looked around for the other fighters, eventually seeing Chi-Chi, PaoPao, Hercule, Yamcha, and of course, Jackie Chun. Without much fanfare, Jazz walked to the old sage.

"Master Roshi." Jazz began, "If I end up facing you, I'm thankful for the lessons you may impart on me, even if I am not fully a student of your school."

"I don't know what you're talking about." Jackie Chun began, "I'm Jackie Chun."

"I mean, sure, but… just take my words as you will, sir." Jazz turned to prepare for his fight.

Afterword

Jazz's powerlevel before the first Budokai Tenkaichi: 66 (gained a powerlevel of 58 over the 8 months+ 8 from the boost incurred from the Jiang Shi transformation) in the original, Goku's powerlevel is above Nam's powerlevel, which was said to be 100, but slightly above, below, or equal to Master Roshi's, which was 120-139 at the time, at least according to Daizenshuu 7. I based Jazz's growth level on the idea he grew in power level by one point every week for the 8 months, which is actually a faster growth rate than his 7 months of training before the original adventure, but that there was a slight diminish in returns (he used the heavier 10 kg weights (22 lbs each), so strength and power gain increased. This increase is less than Goku's despite using similar weight totals (in the 8 months with Roshi, Goku used a 40kg turtle shell backpack, vs four 10 kilo weights.

Apparently in the Manga, Goku and Krillin train with 20kg weights till April 6, then move on to 40kg weights till May 6, so they only used the 40kg weights for one month in the original, I think due to Goku and Krillin being a little stronger (and krillin getting a slight head start) they will use the 40kg weights 1-2 months earlier. This will prompt Roshi to train a bit, as he's not confident on whether or not he can beat them as he was. Basically, if you haven't noticed, Jazz has subtlety pushed everyone to be a bit stronger, and that's a trend he wants to continue

Goku should currently be at a powerlevel of around 120-150, and Krillin, PaoPao, and Master Roshi somewhere around that level too, like 120, 130, 142 respectively. Chi-Chi should be somewhere between 80-100, and Yamcha should be around 95-110.

Of course, luckily, the difference in powerlevel isn't enough to really matter, much like a fight between Tienshinhan and Goku, who had an equal powerlevel in the original, their fights will come down to a matter of skill and luck. Though Goku has a huge advantage due to his unique biology.
