Jazz 2 stared at the forest around him, then up at the night sky, despite the darkness, the full moon gazed down at him, invigorating him. He was in a skin-tight black swimsuit that exposed only his head, forearms, and legs from the knees below. Over the suit was a pair of polyester swimming trunks. While the skinsuit covered his body adequately, the shorts made him feel comfortable, as the skin suit felt more like overly fancy underwear. For his upper half, he wore a small sleeveless zip-up hoodie. He breathed in, then out, in, then out, then turned to face the enemies within the forest.

"Come out, I know you're there." As if they materialized from nothing, two students of the Crane School approached him. Jazz 2 raised an eyebrow. "Oh, it looks like you guys went to Gero as well, received an upgrade, did ya?" Despite his jovial tone he couldn't help but frown. Every night, a pair of Crane Students would come and attack him. The first time, it was two normal ones, but they seemed to get progressively stronger each night as if they were testing him. He found to his interest that Tien and Chiaotzu were never amongst the pairs that attacked him. After the first month and a half though, they started approaching him with odd augmentations.

"And this time! We'll beat you!" A pretty, young woman glared at him. Her left eye was pure crystal blue and she had no pupils or whites in her eyes. She was also taller than the last time he saw her, a testament to Dr. Gero's modifications. Given what she looked like, he assumed she was based on Android 8's design. The one next to her was similar, though in many ways he looked like he could be Android 8's twin brother, if not for the ridiculous pompadour.

"Look toots, if you could beat me, you'd have already done so." Jazz shook his head, "and frankly, I'm not in any mood to be fighting you guys. It's getting really, really old."

The woman reddened at his insult. "What did you call me?"

"What?" Jazz 2 asked, "do you want me to call you babe? Sweetheart? Kitten? Or should we just skip the pleasantries and you'll go make me a sandwich?"

She charged forward, bristling in anger. Her fist stretched out as she prepared to pound Jazz into the dirt.

"Lu! Wait!" The man called after her, charging forward, but he was too late.

The Crane School disciple named Lu felt the ground beneath her disappear as she fell into a ditch a few feet in front of Jazz. Due to her momentum, she crashed into the wall of the ditch, then fell heavily on her back unto a foul, sticky substance.

Jazz 2 leaped over the hole and charged towards the male fighter, who swung his fist in pure rage. Jazz, predicting his movements, ducked under his swing and shot himself forward with a burst of fire. He kneed the warrior in the face, knocking him back. The warrior glared at Jazz and swung his fists forward. The ground broke into craters as Jazz was pulled back by a whip of water he materialized further back. As the crane student charged forward, Jazz used his telekinesis to launch trees into the giant cyborg's path, he bulldozed through them like nothing. Jazz continued to move backwards, destroying trees in his path and moving further and further back until he was finally able to make out his target. Trailing behind the cyborg were dozens of fly-sized drones. Their job was to analyze the data from this fight and collect his DNA, he had noticed them after the second week of fending off Crane Students. He immediately knew what they were for and destroyed them whenever he could see them. But he also began to realize that alongside attempting to collect his DNA, they successfully filmed and analyzed his attacks. He sent a crushed one to Jazz 3, who passed the drone on to Bulma, and discovered that while they could detect energy from Ki, they could not detect the energy released from psychic attacks and magic. For this reason, Jazz refrained from using his ki-based techniques until he was certain he destroyed the observing drones. Jazz 3 had then also kept his psychic awareness up for any unwanted spying, but for now, only Jazz 1 and Jazz 2 experienced this harassment.

Jazz stretched out his right hand, the drones froze in place. He clenched his fist like he was crushing a twig, and the drones imploded from the force of his attack.

"Fight! Me… like… a… man!" The cyborg roared angrily. Jazz 2 landed on his feet, slightly slumped over.

"Alright!" A silver whirlwind exploded out from Jazz's body, pushing back the cyborg.

The cyborg narrowed his eyes and backed away slightly. "What… what are you?!"

Jazz 2 chuckled, "oh… you've not seen this form before…" He laughed. As opposed to his first Juvenile State, Jazz's werewolf training had unlocked its adolescent state of being. His clothing was unchanged, but his skin was covered in a coat of pure white fur. His hands and feet ended in thick, stud-like claws with razor-sharp tips. Despite having his fingers and thumbs in their correct position, a claw jutted from the side of his wrists like a dewclaw on a dog. Despite his mostly humanoid body, his face was like that of a wolf, long snout, black nose, razor-sharp teeth, and piercing yellow eyes. Even if he was weaker than before as simply a split from the original Jazz, the form filled him with power and adrenaline. He howled to the moon, a piercing baying cry that stirred the forest. "Well, allow me to give you a demonstration!" The werewolf's body bulked up as Jazz activated the Pump Up technique.

"The doctor already gave us the data! You get stronger, but you either don't gain speed, or you even slow down!"

"Is that right?" Jazz laughed. "Well, then you should have no trouble…" Before the man could react, Jazz was already halfway to him.

The man leaped out of the way as Jazz barreled past him. But before the cyborg could leap away, Jazz 2 dug into the ground with his claws and turned to chase after the cyborg.

"AAAH!" The cyborg tensed his legs and leapt nearly 100 feet into the air, then began to try and fly away with the air dance. Jazz laughed and tensed his legs.

"Pump Up! Times 2, roasting marshmallow meteor!" Flames billowed from his hands and feet as Jazz used his magic, might, and ki to launch himself into the air, his white fluffy body billowing and shaking in the wind and the trail of fire behind him struck a dynamic impression on the Cyborg's face. The cyborg moved to block the attack, only to blink as a blast of steam struck his face. Momentarily blinded, he did not notice that Jazz had situated himself above the Crane School assassin. He smashed down his fists on the cyborg, sending the Crane School assassin towards the earth. Jazz then charged after the falling enemy like a wolf on the hunt, tackling him midair and increasing the velocity of his impact. He let go at the last second and unleashed a blast of flames, killing his momentum and launching an additional attack into the cyborg. By this point, the second cyborg had made her way out of the ditch. She growled obscenities at Jazz and charged forward. If the first cyborg was all about strength, she was all about speed. She blitzed him, striking left and right with devastating attacks. Jazz moved into a more forested area, utilizing the foliage to camouflage his movements and increase the time it took for Lu to strike him. He allowed her to pass over him once, twice, three times over before extending out his hands and unleashing a powerful psychic strike. Lu tripped over herself as she felt the few biological organs she had left nearly tear from the strain Jazz's psychic attack put them through. Jazz extended his leg back and swung with all his might, breaking Lu's nose and knocking her into the same pit her ally lay in. Jazz's muscles began to relax and his ki lowered to its normal state.

"So your werewolf form has become stronger…"

Jazz didn't turn around. "Yeah, a little bit, Tien."

"I see." That was all Tien said.

Jazz leaped over the incoming Don Don Ray and swung his clawed fist out, and not a moment too soon as Tien's fist clashed against his own, sending the werewolf back.

"Dammit!" He cursed under his breath as he turned to run.

"Going somewhere?" A psychic force rivaling Jazz's assailed his senses, he turned to face Chiaotzu, who extended his arms, the boy strained with such fury that Jazz could see veins pulsing on the boy's normally almost expressionless face.

Jazz's eyes began to gleam blue as he fought back against the psychic attack. He then ducked just as Tien nearly kneed him in the back of the head.

"I faced many punishments from my master because I didn't go out and fight you again, but I wanted to be ready!" Tien shouted, he extended his fist, smashing into a tree as Jazz dodged out of the way.

"Oh, I'm flattered you did all that to prepare for-" Jazz didn't finish as his water whip pulled him down and away from Tien's attack. His nose and ears began to bleed from the pressure of Chiaotzu's attack. He pulled himself back and fired out a flame blast to aide his flight away from Tien. He rocketed across the forest, then screamed as a Don Don Ray, followed by a giant boulder, struck him. Rolling himself forward he landed at the base of the rubble mountain that was home to Jazz 1.

Chiaotzu frowned. "I can't use my powers on him anymore, someone or something's blocking it, good luck Tien."

"Thanks…" Tien charged forward. Jazz flashed a grin before transforming within a puff of white smoke. Tien's fist collided with the soft form of a blue-ringed octopus. "AAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHH!" The assassin screamed in pain as the venom arced through his bloodstream.

"That hurts right? Well, here's some more!" Jazz's octopus form began to glow as electricity arced from its body and began to shock Tien. The Crane School warrior exploded in fury, knocking Jazz back and out of his transformation back into his werewolf form.

"You goddamn furry!" Tien growled, gripping his throbbing arm. As an assassin, he was exposed to many venoms and poisons to build up immunity, but the venom of a blue-ringed octopus hurt like hell and was still almost lethal to him. Jazz's electric shock didn't help the matter either.

"That's pretty freaking harsh…" Jazz began to giggle, "Though I did tell that Lu chick to make me a sandwich, so I guess I deserve this insult…" He tensed his muscles, "Though furries aren't that ba-" He wasn't able to finish the tangent as Tien launched a tri-beam his way.

"Hey!" Jazz 1 screamed from his prison, "that was my freaking roof you just broke, bald asshole!"

Tien began to rev up his ki, a white aura surrounded his body, at the same time, the venom in his system began to deteriorate and evaporate as he utilized the next technique in his arsenal. "Solar Flare!" Jazz was momentarily blinded, but on instinct leaped up as Tien charged at him. "What?!" Tien shouted.

Jazz grinned and fired a magic fire, Don Don Ray, into Tien's back, burning him. "Missed me."

Tien growled, then stared at Jazz hard. "Stop toying around with me. Use that overwhelming power from before…"

"I don't feel like it." Jazz sighed, "anyways, if you really want that fight, just face me in the Budokai Tenkaichi, y'know? Doing this isn't going to be of any good to you."

Tien balked at the excuse. "And why is it no good?"

"Because you're dangerous enough for me to contemplate killing, Tienshinhan, and I don't want to stain my claws with your blood. Pick up your fallen comrades and leave."

"Those aren't my comrades, they betrayed the way of martial arts and chose to be turned into those monstrosities by Dr. Gero.

Jazz raised an eyebrow at that. "Dr. Gero?"

Tien nodded, "The crane school moved into the Grood Kingdom, it is a place hostile to the rest of the world. There, my master discovered Tao… but…"

"Tao is alive, so his vendetta against me should be over." Jazz replied.

"Tao was a cyborg, and while he was indeed stronger than ever, he was weaker than I… and… yet… because of the strength he gained, when Gero and the Red Ribbon Army welcomed us, both Tao and Master Shen agreed with open arms to join in his research."

"I assumed as much when your guys started coming at me with robotic upgrades all of a sudden, but I assumed it would be rude to ask." Jazz 2 sat down. "Anyways, if we're done here, you can go ahead and fuck off, I need a nap."

"I've never seen you sleep for longer than an hour." Tien asked suddenly, "how?"

Jazz 2 didn't answer, and after a few minutes, the three-eyed fighter and his training partner left. After a few seconds, Jazz 2 got up, "good, he took those guys… few…" He turned to the giant circular hole in the ground. Inside he spied Jazz 1.

Dried blood caked the face of the original Jazz as he stared up at his doppelganger. "He's gone, right?"

Jazz 2 made a face, "you know you have a better range of sense than I do…"

Jazz 1 laughed, "yeah, I know…"

Jazz 2 sighed, "I'm assuming you'll tell me, but can you copy the solar flare?"

Jazz 1 giggled, "just call me an Uchiha!" Jazz 2 turned just in time to look away from a bright flash of light, though not as bright as Tien's. "So… how's the transformation training going?" He asked.

"Going quite well, I've got quite a few things to pull, here and there, thanks for teaching me that psychic awareness thing, mixing psychic energy with the electromagnetic sensory organ of a shark would have escaped me."

"Well, it's more thanks to Jazz 3, than me, he's the one who was thinking about Sharks… y'know, on account of his training and stuff."

Jazz 1 and Jazz 2 flinched at the thought of swimming across a lake with weights strapped to their body while a shark chased after them.

Jazz 2 broke the silence, "about Jazz 4… I'm worried."

Jazz 1, the original, thought to himself before speaking, "I understand where you're coming from, but I'm not… maybe it's because of my time to myself, but I think he'll make it."

"But he hasn't communicated with us since, we've tried to link up with him, but he ignores us like a… Jesus Christ, I was about to sound like my mother."

"What, where you gonna say like 'an ungrateful teen'?" Jazz 1 chuckled.

"Laugh all you want, I just hope he makes it, there are 4 months left."

Jazz 1 laughed some more, "I'm telling you, he's fine…"

Jazz 4 puked blood. "That's not good."

"Get up, and again!" Kami announced. Jazz 4 ignored his protesting body, he stood up again. Kami had fashioned a wooden quarterstaff and told the young man to swing it around and learn how it worked. Jazz 4 had taken to the weapon easily enough, but then came sparring against the old Namekian. Jazz, fully aware of Kami's general power level, was extremely hesitant in partaking in this spar. Unfortunately for him, Kami had attacked him first, and the two had begun to spar. In the dark of space and the constant light of the ship, Jazz didn't know when day or night hit, and worst of all, he had no bed to sleep in. This issue wasn't something he was worried about when it only took him 20 minutes to sleep the equivalent of 8 hours, but now that he was essentially a normal person again, all the vices and weaknesses of mortality that he had taken for granted had come back to bite him in the ass.

"I… I'm up…" Jazz swung his staff with expert precision, at least, expert precision for 2 months of constant training, and swung with surprising force towards Kami. The namekian moved his cane to block the blow, but Jazz curved the staff, causing it to coil and aim for within Kami's guard. The namekian, moving almost painfully slowly, blocked the attack with ease, and pushed Jazz away. The boy barely held back his irritation as he continued to fight, he tried every trick in is arsenal, and even through in punches and kicks for good measure, yet he was incapable of landing even a glancing blow. He lowered the stick slightly in exhaustion. Widening his eyes in panic, Jazz attempted to raise up his arms, only to get punched in the face and sent flying. He wheezed in pain and spit out some more blood. As he struggled to get up Kami shouted.

"Meditate!"

Jazz froze, frustration on his face. Kami would interrupt the fight intermittently with meditation sessions alongside the sparring. At first, Jazz thought these were resting sessions and attempted to relax his body. But any relaxation would lead to a strike from the cane. Getting up caused him to get struck by the cane. Covering his head meant a strike from the cane, sneezing meant a strike from the cane. Sometimes, if Jazz breathed too loudly he'd get hit by the cane. This session was no different, after an hour of attempting, but failing to meditate, Kami urged the boy up to continue training. Jazz had long since given up on attempting to argue with Kami's draconian training regimen and simply fought to stay alive at this point. These had been the longest 2 months of his life, and 4 months were left, the information had been so disheartening that he had cut all contact with the other three Jazzes.

After some more sparring, Kami told Jazz, "MEDITATE!"

Jazz sat as he was told.

"Breath from the nose, out from the mouth," Kami stated calmly.

Despite the pain he was in, Jazz began to slow his breathing. As he did, he began to feel something for the first time other than pain. It reminded him of the fire he felt when PaoPao taught him, but it was different, this fire was simply warm instead of hot, it suffused around his body, soothing him and even cooling him down. He looked up at Kami, who smiled and nodded. "Good… you've taken the first step. Tell me, can you feel it?"

Jazz nodded. "I… I can, it's like I'm alive for the first time all over again, like my nose was blocked this entire time and I can finally breathe, but… it's so small, this is my ki?" He looked up at Kami.

"Ki is divided in mind, body, and spirit. Your mind and body are relatively strong, but your spirit was never able to flourish, the spirit, Genki, is the most important, it is the crux of power." Kami created bandages and medicine for Jazz to take. "You have passed the first step, and I will now give you back your power." Jazz noted his word choice and nodded.

"Thank you, sensei."

Kami blinked, "I was certain you'd hate me for what I've done to you."

"Punching you has crossed my mind." Jazz admitted honestly, but you went out of your way to help me and I can see the difference between before and after." He sighed, "to be fair, it was like being trained by PaoPao all over again, but maybe just a little worse." Kami tapped his stomach, and Jazz felt a rush of energy fill his body, suddenly, the gloomy aura that used to surround him was replaced with a pure white aura.

"There, with your ki completely clear, you should be able to utilize your strength better."

Jazz stared at his body in shock. Before, he had felt extremely light and weak, but now it felt as if he was weightless.

"Don't space out now." Kami sat in his chair. "Rest for now, we shall begin training your body for the next four months, after that, we will train your mind a bit on Namek, then your spirit once more until we head home."

Jazz couldn't contain his excitement as he bowed before the man before him. "Yes! Thank you, sir!"

Afterword:

Jazz is certainly putting himself through the wringer. It's only been 2 months though since the last chapter, so we won't see the real fruits of their different training regiments until much later. Outside of that, we're beginning to see some development with Tien, early development is always good, but I'd certainly want to land a good clean hit on his face. As Jazz wasn't taken by surprise, he was capable of fending Tien off, albeit very badly, Tien held himself back severely, hoping that Jazz would start showing a glimpse of his power, unfortunately, that's only available if Jazz uses the fusion dance or fully reunites with his split self.

Now, it might seem funny that Jazz 3, despite training only his body through Roshi, seems to be experiencing the most growth. That's only because at the beginning, where growth is linear, it seems like he's got the huge advantage, especially since he has all those training partners, the weights, and the scrolls form the Crane School. And technically, in many ways he does have the advantage, at the moment, but his entire deal is just increasing base power. Which is honestly probably the fastest way to increase someone's strength, rather than all the transformations we see in DBZ. If you already have a multiplier, increasing the multiplier is all well and good, but increasing the base has a greater expression of growth than increasing the multiplier.
