"So… you pissants are back…" Jazz 1 glared at his doppelgangers.
Jazz 2 shuffled his feet while Jazz 3 twiddled his thumbs, only Jazz 4 seemed perfectly content and normal. Jazz 1 used his telekinetic abilities to lift a newspaper in front of him.
"Let's see… 'local mayor discovers mysterious dog-boy. Likely cause for the recent string of garbage can break-ins and incidents of urine all over fences'." Jazz 1 read the newspaper, but he wasn't looking at it, instead, he stared at his doppelganger.
"...Well…" Jazz 2 was almost always in werewolf form except for when he was forced to lose consciousness out of severe exhaustion. He had gotten so "intuned with the wolf within" that he would fuck up like this from time to time. Though, this string of news stories had been the worst of it yet. The worst part was the fact that they ended up finding him after he had broken into a factory for dog products, in the chew-toy section.
"I still remember making those payments to the vet for your ringworm infection." Jazz 3 muttered.
"You aren't fucking safe!" Jazz 1 turned to 3, causing him to flinch. "What the hell was that?" He asked slowly.
"What… what was what? Sir…" Jazz 3 said, feigning innocence.
"Don't you play with me, boy, I know my freaking tricks. I don't care if the legal age for drinking is 20, you're 19 goddamnit." He sighed angrily, "and if that wasn't enough…" He narrowed his eyes as the stones he had lifted were crushed into powder under the pressure of his psychic strength. "You had to fucking propose to PaoPao…"
"I… I was drunk!" Jazz 3 began.
"You bought a ring!" Jazz 1 retorted, "you bought a fucking ring!"
Jazz 2 laughed, but a quick glance from Jazz 1 quieted him down. Due to the interactions with his friends, both in person and through video call, Jazz 1 slowly regained his sanity, enough for him to apologize to his doppelgangers for his descent into madness and actions during his time in the looney bin. They had forgiven him graciously, which was part of the reason why he wasn't shaking Jazz 2 and 3 like rubber chickens.
"Anyways, I will put this behind us, as I've done stupid things before too…"
Jazz 2 turned to Jazz 3 and asked, "does PaoPao still talk to you?"
Jazz 3 looked down, causing 2 to burst out laughing again.
"Shut up!" Jazz 3 yelled. Jazz 1 couldn't help but smile, "it's not…" the three burst out laughing at Jazz 3's expense.
"It's not funny!" Jazz 3 yelled back. "Not as funny as dog breath over there!"
Jazz 2 growled, "alright then, loser, I'll show you what I've been able to do!" silver wind wrapped around Jazz 2, seamlessly mixing with his aura, alongside that, his muscles darkened and gained definition as his aura spiked, his fingernails changed into sharp stud-like claws, and a bushy dog tail sprouted from the base of his spine, his ears lengthened and sharpened like that of a canine's, but didn't move to the top of his head. His eyes changed from their normal green to a more yellow-green, thick fur sprouted from his chest, while thin fur covered his arms, his hair began longer and shaggy, changing into a silver color, with part of it spilling over his shoulders like a mullet. Jazz thought of Warrick's and Dealla's words. 'The form of the werewolf is based on the preferences of its creator.' At the moment, to everyone looking, Jazz 2 looked very similar to the concept of a Super Saiyan 4, though canine based, as opposed to simian based. As opposed to Super Saiyan 4, Jazz 2's shirt did not magically disappear, instead, he wore a thin black sleeveless vest, obviously intended to keep from inhibiting his movements.
Jazz 1 looked at Jazz 2, only to turn when Jazz 3 unleashed his power, his werewolf form was closer to standard, showing his inability to achieve the adult state just yet, but it, in tandem with his Pump Up and talisman magic picked up from PaoPao allowed him to gain the edge over Jazz 2.
Jazz 4 looked at the two of them. "Should… should I join in?"
Jazz 1 sighed, "yeah, you can, it will help me see the level of training you all went through. Maybe it will also calm those two idiots down a bit."
A few seconds later Jazz 3 and Jazz 2 were subdued by the power displayed by Jazz 4, while he was not stronger than either of the other two's displayed power, something about his stance, as well as the glass-colored sword he wielded, made them feel like second-guessing getting into a fight.
"So…" Jazz 1 began, "let's tally everything up."
Jazz 1 had a power level total of 78, meaning he had gained an average of 2 every month for the past year. At his best efforts, he would be able to display a power level of 228, amazing for a human, but not all too impressive all things considered. However, he had trained his magic instead of his body for the most part.
Jazz 2 had a power level of 92, not that much higher than Jazz 1's, but when put in tandem with the astounding power gains he achieved with his Werewolf's adolescent form, as well as the power of his mastered Pump Up technique, which he personally dubbed full power, he could change his measly power level of 92 a little over 9 times over into a whopping 838.35.
Jazz 3 had trained with Roshi, building up his body, spirit, and mind, achieving a strong, solid power level of 177. While he didn't achieve the same level of werewolf power, his werewolf form fully achieved adolescence, giving him a 2 times multiplier. In tandem with his Pump Up Technique and newly acquired talisman magic boost he learned from PaoPao, and he could almost match Jazz 2 at a power level of 796.5 or gulf it at a power level of 1062.
Jazz 4 was perhaps the most surprising, like Jazz 3, his werewolf form had achieved a greater level of power, but he lacked the talisman magic of Jazz 3, or the advanced Pump Up or Transformation of Jazz 2, what he did have was an insane level of base ki compared to the others, 252, which allowed him to achieve an astounding power level of either 756 or 1008. He had made the greatest gain in base power, and almost achieved the same level of magical mastery as Jazz 1.
"Good job, Jazz 4, you're really the best." The original wasn't shy in his praise for his most sane doppelganger. The others grumbled but politely clapped.
"How come you're even able to detect power levels?" Jazz 2 asked, clearly miffed.
"It's because I had a long time to calculate. I call it the Nam-class index." Jazz 1 began, "because there's one power level I am extremely certain of, and that was Nam's during the Tenkaichi Budokai. The guidebooks give him a power level of 100, I was able to, from that, calculate a correct power level calculation."
"How?" Jazz 3 asked, curious.
"Simple, we discovered someone with a power level of 1, through feeling, I was able to determine that they were nearly 100 times weaker than Nam. From there, I calculated, my power level out, then tested by theory by getting Jazz 4's help with Nam, who has an established power level of 42,000, and Kami, who had an established power level of 220 before Guru unlocked his potential. My calculations were off by a few points here and there, but after some work, I managed to mentally devise a unit of measurement that accurately calculated power levels.
"What makes you say that?" Jazz 2 asked.
"I can calculate your strengths, and I have the power levels down if that's enough to explain it. Also, you guys can passively tell, since our power levels are all still below 1500 right? It's a lot easier the smaller the number. They looked at each other, then nodded.
"Cool." The original said. "With that being said, are you all ready? Any last wills and testaments?"
"None." All three said. "Just…" Jazz 4 added, "don't forget all the people who've kept you whole."
"Don't forget that training is how you get better." Jazz 2 said.
"Don't forget to show appreciation, and, don't forget about us." Jazz 3 finished. The ki doppelgangers began to shimmer in white light as they swarmed into Jazz, and in an explosion of light and energy, Jazz was once again reborn, whole and full. It took Jazz almost half a day to fully acclimate to all of the memories that swirled within his mind, and the other half of the day to reconcile his personality. Luckily, on a fundamental level, each doppelganger was still Jazz, so there was no crisis of identity to be found.
Jazz's first emotion now that he was whole was an embarrassment, each of his different 'selves' had done at least one thing that would embarrass the other three. "I accept these flaws, and hope to move past and overcome them." He muttered. He then looked at himself, and chuckled, "wow… I didn't even aim for it, I have a base power level of exactly 599." He put on his weights, combined from both Jazz 4's and Jazz 3's, then casually ripped away from the cables that had held him down for the three years. He thought about destroying them, but something stopped him. Instead, he used telekinesis to lift up the cables, then slowly unraveled them to understand the make and structure, even if he could finally break out of them, they had been surprisingly tough. He felt his power level, suppressed to about the strength of 400 from the weights, and flexed his arms and legs. Then, he waved his hand, causing a mirror of ice to form in front of him. The base, original Jazz, had been focusing the majority of his training on magic and telekinesis, allowing him to shape objects rather easily, and while he could use magic to create an actual mirror, via Jazz 4's training from the Dragon Clan, elemental magic materialization took less magic and formed a bit faster.
"Hmm…" Jazz admired his face. His features had filled out nicely from the combination of the physical states of each of the doppelgängers. He stood at a fraction of an inch over 6 feet tall and looked to be about 200 pounds of almost entirely muscle. His hands and feet were heavily calloused, signifying the extreme training he put himself into to harden his striking joints.
"I take it you're normal again?"
"Z," Jazz began, smiling, "how are you?"
"A little bored, I had a lot of fun at first on Namek, but man… It's boring after a while. It's pretty much all just water, mountains, and grassy fields."
"Fair, but a lot of Earth is just that too." Jazz chuckled as Z grumbled.
"Well, I guess I have to thank you, I didn't think I'd get to witness a real-life soap opera." Z laughed as she poked fun at Jazz's misadventures with his doppelgängers.
"Well, I'm glad someone was entertained." Jazz began, he put on a jade-green training gi with gold sashes and metal cuff links, finishing off his outfit. He had an equally green long-sleeved shirt and pants with gold filigree designed to look like a dragon. A dark blue sash tied his shirt together at the waist, and dark blue sports bandages were tied at his forearms and below his knees, stopping at the fingers and toes. Jazz's hair was long, sweeping down to below his feet. With a few deft movements, he sliced the long strands until his hair barely fell past his ears. He observed himself in the ice mirror.
"Well, definitely better than before," Z admitted.
"Aww… thanks." Jazz said.
…
Papaya Island was the location that hosted the 22nd Budokai Tenkaichi, prospective fighters were to report their names and addresses before 9 AM, right now, 3 people were close to being late.
"I cannot believe they'd worry us like this." Bulma groaned angrily."
"Hey," Krillin joked, "with Goku not here, I might win though."
Yamcha laughed, "as if, it's my win."
Tien said nothing, he simply crossed his arms. "If it's Goku, he'll be here, he's too strong to resist a challenge."
"Oh, and you'll be the challenge?" Yamcha retorted.
"Back off from my man!" Blonde Launch, equipped in the Turtle School Gi, held a gun to Yamcha's chin.
"Who's your man?" Tien scoffed, turning away. Before Launch could retort, she changed into her Blue-Haired state.
"Sheesh, sorry Yamcha." She pulled the gun away from Yamcha's head and removed its magazine and loaded bullets, "Blondey sometimes gets a little wound up, she's worried Goku, Chi-Chi, and Jazz will miss the tournament, so it's making her antsy. Also, you remember, we had a long plane ride, you know how she gets." She put the gun away in a satchel before placing everything in a capsule and handing it to Bulma.
The others shivered when they thought of when Blonde Launch threatened to hijack the plane they road into the island on. Due to her strength, it required effort from Yamcha, Krillin, and Roshi to keep her held down.
Eventually, they saw two figures rush towards them. Chi-Chi and Goku wore their Turtle School Gi, though the clothing looked rough and a little worse for wear, likely due to all the training, washing, and folding it had been through over the year.
Goku was a little taller than before, standing a good 4 feet 9 inches tall. Chi-Chi was even taller, standing at 5 foot 2 inches. Of course, both of them towered over Krillin's 4 foot 5 inches.
"Hey! Goku!" Yamcha called out.
"Guys!" Goku and Chi-Chi smiled as they jumped off their twin Kintouns and joined their friends.
"Goku! Chi-Chi!" Krillin laughed as he hugged his friends. "I'm glad you guys are okay! You made it just in time!"
Chi-Chi laughed. "Goku didn't want to use the Kintoun, he was going to swim all the way here, but he had these extremely heavy training weights, so I said he should fly there." She turned to Master Roshi, "that was okay, right?"
Roshi nodded, "I told you to train and expand your horizons in preparation for the next Tenkaichi Budokai." He smiled, "traveling here quickly was not wrong."
"Oh wow! You were right Chi-Chi." Goku said, Chi-Chi giggled at his words.
"You guys gotta sign up before it's too late!" Launch said, "it'd be a shame if you came all this way just to miss it."
Chi-Chi looked around as they walked into the pavilion. "Where's PaoPao?" She asked.
"PaoPao had to attend to matters at the Tsukimi base." Roshi began. "Unfortunately she wasn't able to join this year, but she wishes you all good luck."
"I wonder if Jackie Chun will be here this year." Goku wondered.
"Hmm… maybe." Yamcha ribbed Roshi jovially.
"I wish we could fight…" Lapis said sourly, "we've trained really hard!" He and Lazuli had gained a good deal of strength, but they weren't ready for the battlefield just yet. Roshi had instructed them to burn into their eyes the fights of their elder disciples. They still wished they could enter the fight.
"Last call for the fighters! If you don't sign in in the next 5 minutes, we will close the registration."
"Ah! Wait!" A familiar voice hit the ears of the fighters. They turned, smiling as they saw a red duck flap towards the sign-in stand.
"..." The fight promoter raised an eyebrow in shock. "Are… are you entering the fight?"
"Ah… forgive me." Jazz appeared in a pop of white smoke. "Yes, I'm registering, put me down as Jasper Duncan."
"Jazz!" Lazuli was the first one to tackle the fighter.
Jazz bent down to hug the girl. "Hey kiddo, how're you doing?"
"You've been gone for a week, are you alright?" Yamcha asked, looking Jazz up and down, "and… are you…"
"Yeah." Jazz smiled, "I'm me, no more 4,3,2,1. Just Jazz."
"I see." Yamcha nodded, smiling, "that's good, I'm glad you're good, man."
"Thanks!" Jazz said.
"Still kicking your butt if we face each other," Yamcha said.
Jazz laughed, every single fighter before him had gone through some unreal training, with even the weakest of them being capable of making short work of Goku from the 21st Tenkaichi Budokai, sans Oozaru or wrathful of course. "I wish you the best of luck." Jazz finished signing his name. "But I've been through literally unreal training." His clothes disappeared in a flash of magic, replaced by the Turtle School Gi.
"Ooh, that's a neat trick, can you do it for me and Goku?" Chi-Chi asked.
Jazz nodded. "PaoPao says you should all do your best, this will be the first broadcasted tournament. Where's Hercule?"
Roshi scoffed, "he has been slacking off. He's allowed his feelings for a girl to distract from his training."
Jazz raised an eyebrow, "I see. So where exactly is he?" Jazz was soon answered when a man leaped from a helicopter from above, he sailed to the ground, but stopped himself from hitting the ground.
"Here I am!"
The crowd cheered. Jazz couldn't help but laugh, "Hercule?"
Herc ran over to the sign-in and filled out the form. "It's Hercule or Mr. Satan to the rest of you!" He declared, pounding his chest boldly. "Awesome to see you guys again!"
"It's good you're doing well." Jazz smiled, how is Miguel?"
Hercule's face reddened. "Oh… well… y'know?"
"…No, I don't know."
…
The preliminaries began quite quickly, most fighters were in separate brackets, so they'd be able to meet in the finals, unfortunately, not everyone was so lucky.
"Man… I have to fight you?"
"Sorry, Chiaotzu." Jazz said, smiling, "I'll try to go easy on you."
"Anything but that!" Chiaotzu got into a fighting stance, though he remained floating in the air.
Jazz nodded and entered his own stance, waiting.
Chiaotzu made the first move, he launched out two miniature don don rays that Jazz ducked and leaped over easily, then charged forward.
Jazz moved to block Chiaotzu's flying punch, but twisted in midair, using his flying technique, even though Chiaotzu missed him by a few inches, a nasty gash appeared on his palm. "I didn't even feel the ki until you got closer…" Jazz muttered in amazement.
"I concentrate my ki into a tiny blade, then I used my telekinesis to hold it together, when I hit you, I power up the ki!" Chiaotzu's arms were wrapped in invisible blades of ki, which he began to swing expertly, charging towards Jazz again. Jazz's wound healed nearly instantly, Jazz began to dodge and weave in and out of Chiaotzu's attacks. Since he could only fully detect the attack just as it struck, it was difficult to maneuver himself into a unique space to counterattack.
"Pretty interesting." Jazz said. He extended his arms and mist began to flow out from his body. Chiaotzu charged through the mist, causing Jazz to smile as he analyzed the boy. Gathering ki and psychic energy into his palm, Jazz caught the smaller boy's blade, causing him to gasp in shock.
"What?!"
Jazz grinned, "I can see the shape and size of your blades in this wind." Before Chiaotzu could respond, a powerful blast of wind slammed him into the wall, knocking him out of bounds.
"First winner of the Preliminary Rounds! Number 2! Jasper Duncan!"

Afterword:
This was originally Going to be Chapter 55, then it changed to Chapter 57, now it's this chapter. I started with this chapter first, but as I typed it out, I began putting pieces together for the "what the heck happened in between all this bull" so I paused, moved this chapter away, and started working on the earlier chapters before returning to and finishing this one.
