Warning: This story is high school level Sonic. It went into depth into the themes, but I just want you as a reader to be fully aware of what is in this story. Thank you for reading
Knuckles' life has been dedicated to defending his village since he was four years old. At the age of seven he managed to rise to village commander alongside his father. He began to memorize the memories of him remembering the words of his father. He had received three lessons in his life. Each lesson was with a new teacher, because when they discovered his talent, they simply told him that he was not qualified for the job. Then Knuckles was alone, always learning more and more.
When he was not guarding the village, he hummed melodies sung by his echidna tribe. Oh, how he loved his tribe. He wanted to be a hero in every way possible. He knew the skills and would continue learning until his fists bled. Knuckles was glad that his fists remained intact. He took the word for it to reach out to him every time he fought in hopes of never having to stop.
For the last three years of high school, the school gave him access to the kung fu room. There he reserved the black belt to show how strong he is. There was never anyone stronger than him. He had a painful training, but this was the best of the best. Knuckles approved. Or maybe even better than what Knuckles did.
Of course, there was more to life than Knuckles' fists. Knuckles wanted to be leader of his tribe and defend his village at all costs, his father agreed. Defending on board was common for him, but he had hope. It was his dream. How could he? He had worked for it his entire life.
He was awakened by the sound of fists hitting a tree outside his house. Sunlight streamed into her room through the sheer red curtains. Knuckles sat on the bed and rubbed his eyes. When his vision adjusted, he looked at the large envelope resting on his desk. He was filled with letters of recommendation from him, transcripts from him, and the simple application of him as leader of the tribe. He would send it to his father as soon as applications opened.
The first day of school had always been daunting for Knuckles. After three long months of non-stop working out, she found it difficult to dedicate her day to his general education. He supposed it wasn't the worst way to spend the day. He hadn't seen any of his friends since his last baseball game in June. He showed up to a few practices, but never had much time left. There was always next spring.
Knuckles ran his fingers through his hair, tied his shoes and brushed his teeth and felt ready for the day. He grabbed a muffin from the kitchen as he walked out the door. His mother was still asleep and his father was already at work, so he quietly walked out of the house with a brisk step and out into the September air.
The brick wall was not far from the school, so Knuckles made the entire detour. Sure enough Sonic and Tails were sitting on it, just talking. Tails saw him first and waved him over. Knuckles ran towards them, catching his breath as he leaned against the wall. "Knuckles, what brings you here?" Sonic asks, leaning back on his elbows and resting his feet.
"I wanted to say hello," Knuckles smiles. "How were your two summers?
"Nothing special," Sonic shrugged. "Running, visiting Tails and helping by dragging me to the scene when Eggman attacks."
"I can't believe we're seniors in high school now," Tails shakes his head. "But I guess that's life. "Time passes and we all become older, wiser and more experienced."
Ignoring Tails' usual monologue, Knuckles chuckled. "Now you will have to defend yourself from me between classes."
Talis shifted slightly, "Yeah, I guess so."
"Wow," Sonic shook his head, his spiked hair shaking in front of his eyes.
"Did you finally decide to go back to your old hair?" Knuckles raised an eyebrow.
"That? Oh. Yeah". Sonic shook his head again.
"It's a definite improvement," Tails added. "Senior year is a good time to go with something classic. There is no pressure from the upperclassmen."
"Now you're going to have to take the pressure off of us little ones, Sally appeared out of nowhere. Sonic immediately sat up as she leaned against the wall, looking at him. "Hello, Soniku."
"Hello, Sally," Sonic greeted half-heartedly. "How are you?"
"I'm fine," she tucked her light brown hair behind her ear. "I was wondering since I'm new to your school this year, could you… show me around?" Knuckles looked at Tails, who had a small smile on his lips.
"I don't think I'm the best at it." Sonic admitted. "But today they're showing the other students, I'm sure you could ride with them.
Sally let out a frustrated sigh. "Sure thanks. "I'll see you later, Soniku." She turned around and saw no one behind her. Cream?!"
"Right here, Sally," Cream said from the other side of the wall. The three boys were startled by her sudden appearance. Cream always had a silent step.
"Do you have all my books?" Sally called much louder than necessary. The boys cringed. Knuckles, who had keen hearing, grimaced at his shrill voice.
"Yes, sally," Cream lifted a stuffed bag over the wall.
"Well, come on up, Cream," Sally motioned for her to follow her. "I'm going with or without you." She started to walk away. Cream put both hands on the wall and jumped, almost falling over the other side. The backpack fell as she tilted. Sonic and Tails grabbed her arms.
Don't worry, Crem, Sonic got up from the wall to help her down. She accepted her hand and landed on her feet.
Taking off his orange pants and fixing his hair. "Thank you, Sonic." He grabbed the bag and groaned.
"What's in this thing? Bricks?"
"It's Sally's stuff, Cream reached for it, but Sonic pulled it back.
"I got it, I'll follow you," Sonic put the bag on his shoulder and took his own in his hands.
"What a sweet gentleman, Sonic," Cream smiled as they walked away. Knuckles turned to Tails, who was watching them carefully.
"What's that?"
"That is the long oblivion of my dear friend Sonic," said Tails. "Sally has always been in love with him."
"How come I haven't noticed?" Knuckles asked as they walked far behind the others.
Tails smiled to himself. "Forgetfulness can be the ruin of many people. I didn't know it myself until… someone told me."
"Hey," Knuckles shook his head. "Well, that will be a change for Sonic."
"If you ever notice. She's been overriding Amy...
"Since the beginning of time," they said together, rolling their eyes.
As they crossed the street to school, Knuckles sighed, "That's why love is meaningless. My ancestors were single and look at everything they did. "We can accomplish so much more if we didn't have to worry about romance."
"A solitary life is not the greatest achievement in the world, but I cannot speak for everyone." Before Knuckles could argue further, they were in the chaotic hallways. The sounds of lockers closing and laughter echoed through the hallways. Tails then patted him on the back. "I will see you later". He disappeared in an instant, leaving Knuckles alone.
I locate Sonic easily. He was always easy to spot with his bright blue fur. He was still with Cream, helping her put her books in her locker. Sonic was looking past Cream to the once love of his life. Amy was always one of the prettiest girls in school, but Knuckles never saw the appeal in her. What was so special about her? What made someone the most desirable? He would never understand
The first three classes of the day went by quite quickly. He had to catch up with the generals of him after taking all the kung fu classes before this year. Knuckles saw many lower grade students, but not any of his classmates. Tails would love to have been there, but he takes so many classes that Knuckles was surprised he hadn't graduated already.
At lunchtime he sat with the boys as usual. She listened to the summer stories and laughed with the rest. The rest of the day was very simple, he dedicated himself to math and science, dedicating his time to each and doing the homework as quickly as he could before the final bell rang. He skipped like a schoolboy down the hallway to the music room and past the professor into his most beloved training room. When he opened the door, he was quite surprised to not be alone.
Rouge The Bat's life has been dedicated to Knuckles since she was four years old. When she met him for the first time, she knew he was in love with her. She never bothered to look at anyone else. She leaned on his muscles as he lifted dumbbells during the days that passed. Her conversations were light, they talked about marriage and her future life. Of course, most of these conversations were one-sided, but the young Rogue simply thought that Knuckles preferred not to talk about the obvious.
As time passed, Rouge took the opportunity to talk about her future. Surely one day Knuckles would solve everything. She would be leaning on his muscles while he was lifting 200kg dumbbells. She would then look up from the keys and ask her to marry him. She would act surprised and accept spontaneous offer. They would be inseparable from that moment on. She wouldn't just be sitting on a guy's muscles, but she would be sitting on her husband's muscles.
Rouge, now a senior, figured it was time to think about the future. She didn't know what she wanted to do. She had many interests, like Knuckles, her Tribe, making things go the way she wanted and knowing what everyone did. She figured that would be enough when she married Knuckles. She could live happily as his little housewife, right? Of course she could.
That morning of her last first day of high school, Rouge looked in the mirror. She had planned to wear her little purple bra that she had bought at a store last May, but all she could look at was the way the fabric clung to her tits. Was it too small? She turned around and controlled herself. She didn't understand why this babydoll style was even in fashion. She missed the big, voluminous bras she used to wear.
Sighing, Rouge unclasped her bra and went to the closet. She put on a purple sweater and boxy pants. She controlled herself again, grateful that the sweater fit almost loosely on her. Rouge smoothed her hair and frowned. Maybe she'll lose some weight now that she starts school and then she can wear the bra at one of the Christmas parties. Who would be wearing a bra today anyway? For the first week of September it was quite cold.
When Rouge came down to breakfast, Shadow was shoving egg-laden toast in her face. Vector was doing the same thing, only with a pancake. Her mother was washing the dishes, holding the phone next to her ear next to her shoulder, chatting. Rouge looked at the boys again, this time she put a hand to her stomach and moaned, "Disgusting."
Vector was unaffected by the comment, but Shadow glared at her. "How curious, I don't see the mirror you're talking to."
"Stupid," Rouge punched him on the shoulder quickly but forcefully. It was usually enough to lift him out of the chair, but Shadow just staggered, chuckling to himself. Rouge rolled her eyes before taking a piece of toast from the plate and putting her bag on his shoulder.
"Is that all you're eating?" Shadow asked.
"None of your business," Rouge hissed over her shoulder as she left the house. I take a deep breath of fresh air. Rouge took a bite of her toast and headed to school. He would have to stop by Amy's house to pick her up. When he got home, her dog came sniffing out from the backyard. Rouge took one last bite of her bread before throwing it to the dog. She sniffed it and took it slowly.
The pink girl skipped down the sidewalk to meet Rouge at the end of the path. The dog looked at her and then went back to the years. Her pink dress flowed with every movement, making Rouge instinctively pull down her sweater. "Hey, Rouge!" Amy exclaimed excitedly. Rouge wasn't prepared for her friend's giddiness over the past year, so she forced a smile and nodded. They began to walk in silence until Amy practically burst out, "What do you think it will be like now that Sally's schools are linked to ours?"
"We'll have less competition in baseball," Rouge shrugged. "And she'll be drooling over your Sonic more than usual."
"Sally will too," Amy added. "Sonic doesn't realize anything. Then he just ignores it and that's it."
"At least he's not on my case," Rouge stuck her tongue out making Amy laugh. "He's already dated you before, has he ever paid attention to you?"
"Those were two simple outings in eighth grade," Amy shook her head. "The only reason I broke up with him was because I had to go to summer camp."
"Oh, Sonic," Rouge shook her head.
"I know, but you can't change it," Amy shrugged as they continued.
When they arrived at school, Rouge was surprised to see all the girls sitting in the front. They were never here this early. She lifted her chin a little higher, trying to ignore all the pretty bras and babydoll dresses swarming the yard. From time to time, Amy would stop to say a quick hello or chat with a classmate. Blake and Maria reached the front of the crowd.
They were what Rouge called her closest friends, but she had barely spoken to them over the summer. She saw them and occasionally talks to them in the yard, and she called Blaze last week, but nothing more. I wish I had taken Amy to the back entrance as the couple approached. "Rouge!" Maria called, fixing the white bow in her hair.
"What's everyone doing?" Amy asked, joining the group.
"We're greeting the new students," Maria explained as Blaze looked at Rouge.
"I thought you said you were going to wear that new bra, Rouge?" she asked.
Rouge bit her lip. "Yes, she was. But she accidentally put jam on it this morning. Mom is going to clean it."
"Shame on you," Blaze said flatly.
"Here come some newbies," a girl called. They all walked across the yard and saw Sally pacing the hallways, her flip-flops clipping with every step. Not far from her, Cream and Sonic. They were talking among themselves without even realizing the crowd waiting for them.
"Come on," Rouge pulled Amy's arm. Rouge didn't slow down until they were safely inside.
"Are you OK?" Amy asked once they were inside. Luckily, there was no one else around, just a janitor.
"Hey?" Rouge snapped out of the small daze she had fallen into. "Oh," she shook her head. "No, I'm doing very well. "It's my last first day of school."
"Aren't you going to college?" She was about to say more, but he hesitated. " Someone told me that acceptance rates for women have been steadily increasing."
"I guess it depends on what my husband wants," Rouge shrugged. "My mom got married just a year after finishing high school. She didn't have time to go, even if she wanted to."
"Well, I want to be a beautician," Amy brushed her hair off her shoulder. "Anyway, they spend most of their time talking and I thought I'd be good at it."
"I can believe it," Rouge found her locker number. She began to place the books inside her.
"I better go get my class schedule," Amy cheered. "I couldn't find it anywhere. My dog may have eaten it."
"Oh sonic," Rouge smiled as Amy skipped down the hallway. As students began to fill the hallways, Rouge pulled out some books for her next classes and disappeared up the stairs just as Knuckles entered with Tails.
She wasn't used to hiding. A begged her. She liked to be the center of attention. She used to be brave and bold and maybe a little pushy. As Rouge sat in the back of her classroom, she listened quietly instead of gossiping with Blaze and Maria. She took boots instead of depending on Tails to take them later. There was something lost in her or rather gained.
It was evident that Rouge had always been bigger than the other children. She never saw it as a problem, they would surely catch up with her. She was proud to be ahead of everyone else, but now she was quite far behind. The baby fat still lingered on her seventeen-year-old cheeks. Her body filled out into a rather curvy figure, while Maria and Blaze had remained sticks throughout puberty, and there was no way to forget it.
Last year, before summer began, the trio had gone shopping. Of course, they ran into Sonic. After having a good time, as usual, they went to all the department stores that sold bras and dresses. They laughed as they rummaged through the rack, picking up a large number of expensive dresses to try on. It was all laughter until a tear caused the blood to drain from Rouge's face.
It wasn't big, but it was enough. She looked at the fabric in shock and horror. It was just outside the zipper. Panicking, Rouge had tucked her bra under her arm, cleverly hiding it from Blaze and Maria, but she knew they had heard the tear. There was no possible way they couldn't do it. As the two put their bras and dresses back on, Rouge bought the bra and hid the tear from the cashier as best she could, but the guilt was evident in her eyes.
She never talked about it with her friends or anyone. Rouge had never felt deeper shame. She had felt it immensely for days, weeks, almost all summer. Every time she saw her friends she only remembered that mended bra she tried to put on this morning. Who was she fooling? How could she wear that bra knowing that she would never look like them?
At lunchtime, Rouge ate with the girls. As expected, most of the conversations came from Amy. Blaze and Maria were also at the end of the table chattering. They had invited the new girls from the other school to sit with them. Rouge already knew Sally and Cream, so she struck up a little conversation. This ended in a fight between friends, and Rouge slowly ate her lunch.
The last part of the day went by pretty quickly. Rouge was on the edge of her seat when the final bell rang. She figured she would have to give Amy an excuse, but she couldn't find the girl on the way to the Kung Fu room. The teacher was in her office, so Rouge took the liberty of entering the practice room. Knuckles' big muscle was waiting for her alone. A part of her was discouraged. Why wasn't he here?
Then the door opened.
"Hey," Knuckles dropped his bag on the floor. He muffles himself against the carpet, books crashing against each other. Usually he arrived first, already halfway through a piece before she entered this was the first time.
"Hey," Rouge smiled, putting on her sweater as her hands went into her pockets. She almost didn't recognize her. Not because she had changed, but because he hadn't seen her since the last baseball game in June. "How was your summer?" Usually she would go to her house and listen to him practice, or at least she would call him.
"Fine," Knuckles shrugged. There was another silence, another first. He whistled a little before asking, "Yours?"
"Busy," she shrugged.
"Ah," Knuckles nodded. Rouge jumped on the muscle and moved her legs gently. He stood at the door, simply staring at her. "I noticed you weren't around much." He said it before a thought will enter his mind. Rouge perked up when she heard her voice.
"Actually?"
"I mean," Knuckles sat on the muscle, "you didn't come."
"I didn't have time," Rouge shrugged again. Another silence. She ground her hands on Knuckles' chest. "I called".
"You did it?" She looked up pretty quickly.
"Your mom responded. She said you were very busy and not to bother you," Rouge turned onto her stomach. "Do not try to call again."
"Oh," Knuckles didn't know what else to say, so he just played. I hope she said something. Anything. Usually she would ramble on and on about some storm that he preferred to ignore. He wasn't used to absolute silence in her presence. He shouldn't have bothered her at all. She had just come out of a silent summer, so what did he care?
When I hear her last gasp, I look up at her. She was stunned. Did she even realize that the training was over? This was the perfect time for her to give her word. Instead, he blinked and sat up. "That was lovely Knuckles. "I think I'll go home."
"Ah," he said. "Alright. I see you tomorrow?"
"Yes," Rouge nodded as she gathered her things and left without saying another word.
