DISCLAIMER: I DO NOT own the Mario franchise and/or Once Upon A Time. The only items that I own are the ideas and the original characters.

I also want to mention that all my Mario fanfics are NOT related in the slightest. They all have their own universes and timelines. I've just always wanted to do a next-generation story for the Mario franchise and this was the best way I could do so.

And I'm open to good critiques of this story. Let me know what you guys think of it and if you would like to read more. I'm curious if you like it.

Anyway, enjoy!

MARIO: Rebirth

Season 1

~Luigi's POV - The Mushroom Kingdom~

I ran, urging my legs to move faster through Boo Woods. King Boo was dealt with for now and Bowser was off licking his wounds thanks to Mario kicking his butt back to the Dark Lands. Everything should have been back to normal. There should be peace now that the enemies at bay were dealt with. But, my friend, Allegra Santoro, had a vision. King Boo wasn't alone this time. And no, it wasn't Hellen Gravely helping him again and it was someone besides Bowser. It was someone else.

"She had long black hair!" a Toad declared as I finally raced into the castle, seeing Mario racing up to me. Allegra was right behind me, using her cane to make sure she didn't run into anything.

"She had an amethyst scepter!" another Toad exclaimed.

"Luigi...I tried," Mario said as he led me to the throne room, where a glass coffin stood in the center of the room. And inside it...Princess Peach.

"She's gone."

"No," I breathed, racing up and placing a hand on the glass, staring at her beauty.

"Didn't 'True Love's Kiss' not work?" Allegra asked.

"No, it didn't," a Toad replied.

"Mario, I thought you were her true love!"

"I thought so, too! But my kiss didn't work!" Mario yelled.

"Who else could it be?! Bowser!? Peasley!?" I yelled, looking at Peach's sleeping face as her hands rested on her flat stomach. She couldn't have been gone. Peach was everyone's whole world. Peach was the light to everyone's darkest day. Peach cared for everyone's well-being, even my own when I felt like I didn't deserve it.

This light couldn't be gone.

"Remove the lid!" I called to the Toads who came running and did their best to remove the glass lid.

"Luigi, it's no use trying," Mario said, making me look at him, tears pricking my waterline as his form got blurry. But I could see Allegra standing there.

"I have to at least try, Mario," I said. "I loved her just as much as you, if not more." He stared at me, surprised. Probably surprised that he didn't notice my feelings for the blond princess from the start. I was half-expecting to see it switch to anger in a split second. It was always Mario that she went for, though she showed me the same affection. It was always Mario who saved her, though I'd tag along to help where I could. It was always Mario who was pegged to marry her in the end. So I wouldn't be surprised if he grew angry with me.

However...he never did. He just grinned, a sparkle in his sapphire eyes as he nodded to me. "Then...go for it."

Saving the fact that I was shocked to have his blessing for later, I spun back to Peach, brushing some of her blond hair off her cheek. Her pale face and skin were soft, even under the white glove I wore. I took a breath and leaned forward, planting my lips to hers.

And then everything changed.

A gust of wind blew past everyone, causing light and love to surround the area once more. A warmth filled my body, like a flame igniting from two twigs. It was...surprising. I pulled away after a moment...and Peach gasped awake as her eyes fluttered open. I smiled, excitement filling my mind and heart, as she looked up at me. Her smile brightened her face, and her eyes glistened.

"Luigi?" She spoke, sitting up as our eyes stayed connected. "It's you?"

"I...I guess so," I chuckled, getting her beautiful giggle to echo off the throne room walls.

"Do you, Luigi, take Princess Peach as your lawfully wedded wife?"

"I do," I said, standing in front of Peach, staring at her beauty. Her white gown hugged her slim frame with elegance, and the now silver crown on her head that held the veil shimmered in the light.

"And do you, Princess Peach, take Luigi as your lawfully wedded husband...and prince?" The bishop asked, and Peach smiled.

"I do," She said.

"Then, by the power invested in me, I now pronounce you, husband and wife. You may kiss the bride." We leaned in, ready to seal that we were married, when...

"Well, well...what a very happy day this is!" Everyone gasped, making me turn to see a black-haired woman. Her bright red eyes shined as she walked forward some. Her gown, though white like Peach's, was flowy and ghost-like, with a cape hanging off the back.

"I must say, I'm sort of shocked at this turn of events," The woman said, a smug smile painting her face. "I mean, the sidekick of all people...in Prince Charming's role?"

"Who are you?" Mario yelled, racing in front of us for protection.

"Why, my dear Mario, my name is Tempest," She said. "Queen Tempest Boo. Wife..."

"...to King Boo," I finished, eyes widening as hers landed on mine.

"You catch on quick," She said, scoffing in amusement.

"I suggest you leave if you know what's best for you," Peach yelled, grabbing the sword that was strapped to my hip and aiming at her.

"No, Peach, don't stoop to her level," I said, pushing the sword down as I took it back. "What do you want?!"

"What do I want?" She asked. "Why...revenge." Everyone gasped at hearing such a word come out of her mouth. I, however, kept a brave face…for once.

"You see, you've bested my husband one too many times, "Prince" Luigi. Right now, as we speak, he sits in another painting...kept as a prize by some annoying professor."

"He had it coming," I snapped.

"Did he?" She snapped back. "Or is it you that should be in his position?" I stared at her, trying to stay as brave as possible for my new kingdom. I may have been the coward and shy Mario Bro...but that was before I became the kingdom's prince.

"Leave now!" Mario yelled. "You're ruining this day!"

"Oh, but I have a gift to give!" Tempest said. "A gift...for the happy couple."

"We don't want it!" I yelled.

"You shall have it! For my gift, is this happy...happy day," She began, looking at everyone. "But tomorrow, my real work begins. For tomorrow, your happily ever after...will be mine." And with a snap of her fingers...she disappeared.

Episode 1: Pilot

DESCRIPTION: Leda Riamo is just a normal girl, living her orphaned teenage life...until Maria Mario shows up.

~Leda's POV - Our World - Present Day~

'Misfit's Candies' was hardly ever busy during the summer...or holidays...or really any time of the day. No one knew their hours very well, and no one even knew the location. But its pay was...not great.

I sighed, leaning against the counter out of boredom as I typed on my phone. Another slow day as always. Another day of just being paid to write a song. Usually, I couldn't do such a thing since music played over the speakers. But it hadn't been working for over a few weeks now. So, songwriting it was.

I hummed the tune for this song, thinking over some of the lyrics before writing them down and singing them to myself.

"I don't feel safe/I don't feel heard/will not make a difference in this world./I don't feel seen./Where's my voice?/Don't know what's the right choice," I sighed, saving the project and standing straight. If it hadn't been for the orphanage mother showing me the wonders of music and how it can help you overcome hard times, I probably wouldn't be writing songs in my spare time.

"Alright, Leda, bad news," My manager, Heather Hampton, began as she came out of the backroom. I looked at her, locking my phone as I put it into my front jean pocket.

"What is it?" I asked.

"The company is going out of business...effective immediately." And there it was. The dreaded phrase I was waiting for. In all honesty, I expected this day would come. We didn't make much money and it was hard to make life work with such a low-paying job.

Yes, I was still in high school and didn't really need money. I was 16 today. But after the last encounter, I had with a bully. Well, let's just say I was expelled for doing...absolutely nothing. I was the victim, and yet they kicked me when I was down.

Some birthday, huh?

"What?" I asked, not the least bit hurt by the news, but it still stung.

...

Okay, it didn't sting at all.

"Yeah. They say we haven't made much money," Heather said. "But, we made over 100 bucks last week! Like, come on!"

"Uh, that's nothing, Heather," I said, making her look at me for a moment before waving my comment away.

"Regardless, they told me to send you home early and they'll be in to pick up the stuff shortly," She said, making me stare in wonder as the bell dinged behind me.

Great...a customer.

"But, shouldn't I stay to help pack?"

"No, you've done plenty. Just, go home and you can always use me as a reference," Heather smiled.

"Alright," I sighed. "Do you mind if I help this customer before I head out?" She nodded before returning to the backroom.

I took a breath, turned around, and walked around the counter as the thoughts of trying to find work would be slim. I mean, I was lucky to have gotten this job. And that was abnormally rare. So, to lose this was a tad bit heartbreaking. But I wasn't going to shed any tears over this.

I turned around an island and saw the customer. She was holding what looked like a storybook in her arm. It wasn't big, or small, but it was notebook-size. She wore a red hoodie with blue jeans that were ripped at the knees and red sneakers. The hood was up, so I couldn't see her face, but I could see the faintest tint of red lipstick. And some brown strands of hair hung over her shoulder.

"Hi, welcome to Misfit Candies! Can I help you?" I asked, putting on the best fake smile I could and making her turn to me.

And that's when my smile fell in surprise.

Her blue eyes upturned like mine. Her button nose with freckles was similar to my own. And her diamond face matched mine. I knew about doppelgangers, but I didn't think mine would be IDENTICAL to me.

"Hi," She said, her mouth upturned into a smile. "Are you Leda Riamo?" I just stared. I didn't speak, didn't even dare to move in case this was a bad dream. All my brain cells died at this moment as she stared back, waiting for an answer.

"Hello?" She asked, making me shake my head out of my daze and grin.

"Yes, that's me," I answered. "May I ask who you are?"

"My name is Maria Mario...I'm your twin sister."

...

Some birthday, huh?

~Luigi's POV - The Mushroom Kingdom - 16 years ago...~

I walked into our bedroom and saw Peach standing on the balcony as she watered some Lilly of the Valley, the birth flower of our baby. She was rubbing her belly with love and contentment before she sensed my presence.

She looked at me...and I saw it. Fear for our child and the kingdom. Fear that Tempest's threat would be devastatingly impossible to stop.

I sighed, grinning the best I could as I walked up to my wife.

"Peach, you need to relax," I said, taking the watering can out of her hand.

"How can I when Tempest could have an army of Boos ready for war?!" Peach declared, taking my hands into hers. "How can I rule without knowing what's coming?"

"You're forgetting that I'm ruling alongside you," I said, making Peach scoff as I pulled her close to me and hugged her. "We'll find a way to stop her and her attack."

"But how?!" I sighed, letting her pull away from me. "Is Allegra still in the castle?" I cocked my head, confused as to why she'd ask for Allegra. I had made her part of my court, though she rarely stayed in the castle. I didn't blame her, though. She was blind and couldn't rapture in the beauty that was Mushroom Castle. But, Peach did have a good reason why to ask for her now that I think about it. Allegra was a PSYCHIC. She'd be able to tell us what we needed to know.

"I think she's in the study with Mario and Daisy," I answered. "Do you think she'll know about Tempest's attack?"

"She has to know! She can see the future, Luigi!" Peach exclaimed. "I want to make sure that our child is safe." Her hand rested on her stomach. "I want to know that our kingdom will be safe."

"And it will be," I returned, taking a breath as the idea of talking to Allegra got more and more appealing. Talking to her would be wise as rulers, and considering I made her part of my court...yeah. It was decided. "Alright, then let's go find her."

I took Peach's hand and led her outside of the room, walking down the halls that had twists and turns, with statues and portraits. There was one of me and Peach in the throne room, wearing our crowns to show that we were the new heirs to the Mushroom Kingdom. And there was one of Mario and Daisy. They had clicked at my wedding and before I knew it, they were dating. Not surprised there because Daisy was a little bit more like Mario: brave and outgoing, whereas Peach was a little bit more like me: shy...sometimes.

After a long walk, we made it to the study and walked in. As I suspected, Mario and Daisy were hanging out in here with Allegra and her service dog, Stella (a golden retriever). I grinned at the two, nodding my hello as Mario did the same before I made eye contact with Allegra.

"Hey, Ally," I said, getting a grin in return.

"Hey, Lu," She returned, her clouded blue eyes staring right through me. Stella barked at me as if she was saying where her hello was. I just chuckled as I gave her a quick pat on the head.

"Hi, Stella," I said.

"Sorry. She's been more demanding than normal lately," Allegra said with a sheepish smile. I laughed.

"It's fine, Ally!" I said as Stella walked up to Peach and nuzzled up against her legs. She had been doing this for a while now. Pretty much ever since Peach got pregnant.

"Hey, can I ask a favor of you, Allegra?" I asked, cutting to the chase.

"Sure thing," She returned, sitting down in the chair behind her. "But I already know what you're going to ask me, Lu. It's about Tempest's attack."

"That's right," Peach asked, petting Stella. "How'd you...?"

"I just knew," She giggled, though her smile fell immediately after. "But I'm afraid you have the right to worry, for Tempest's attack is imminent."

"What will her attack be?" Peach asked. "That's what I need to know!" Allegra sighed as her eyes shined a brighter shade of blue.

"A curse," She said. "Tempest is going to enact the Dark Curse.

"The Dark Curse? What's that?" Daisy asked as Stella whimpered, which only meant she was scared.

"It's a curse that will take us to a new realm, a different realm," Allegra continued. "A realm without magic...or our happily ever afters."

"What?" Peach asked, walking over to me as she took my hand. "Luigi, that means..."

"The kingdom will be destroyed," I sighed.

"We can take it!" Mario yelled. "We've dealt with Bowser and all the other baddies before! We can beat this curse!"

"I'm afraid it's not a physical being," Allegra said. "It'll consume anyone who goes near it."

"Luigi, what about our baby?" Peach asked, fear in her voice. I'll admit, I was scared too. Anyone would be if they knew their home was about to be destroyed. Or that they'd lose their offspring before ever getting the chance to know them.

"I'm afraid there's nothing we can..." I started to say when Allegra spoke up again.

"But...there's still hope," I perked up, looking over at Allegra once more as she continued.

"How?" Mario asked.

"Twins...twin girls. I see twin girls. And the sun and moon," Allegra continued before her eyes widened. "They're the heirs to this kingdom's throne!"

"Wait, what?!" Peach yelled. "Twins?!" I stared in shock, trying to come to terms with this. Yes, it was genetically possible since Mario and I were twins. Not identical, but still twins nonetheless. So I'm not that surprised that I would have twins with Peach. But, what were the sun and moon about?

"You two are having twins," Allegra continued. "And they are the key to bringing this life back."

"Luigi isn't this good news?!" I looked at Peach, seeing the brightest smile I had ever seen. I hadn't seen this smile since our wedding day. It was nice and refreshing to see how happy she was now...until a thought came to her mind.

"Wait...but they won't be born for another week!" She yelled as I looked over at Allegra. "They won't know what to do! The kingdom will still be destroyed."

"Not if you send them away," Allegra said. "They need to be sent away, and on their 16th birthday...they'll return to you."

"Sent away?" Peach asked. "I can't do that! They're our kids!"

"But you have no choice," Allegra said. "Send them away, and they'll come back to you on their 16th birthday."

I took a deep breath, thinking over this scenario. On one hand, we were having twins and they were going to save us from a world of damnation. But on the other hand, we were having twins and were about to become a family, one that could rule with golden hearts and make memories around the castle. How could I say that we were to let our kids go until they were old enough to stop this curse? How could I break our hearts?

...

For the sake of the kingdom...that's how.

"I'm sorry, Peach," I said, looking at her watery eyes. "But it's the only choice we have." She stared, fear plastered on her face as Mario sighed behind me. "When they're 16, they'll come back. We have to believe that they will." She took a breath, playing with her wedding ring. I could see the smoke coming out of her ears as she thought this over as well. I could see it was breaking her heart to have to do this, but it had to be done.

"Alright," She said. "If it's our only choice."

"Can we at least get their names?" Mario asked, making me scoff as I looked at my brother and Daisy. Allegra's eyes lowered in brightness as she closed them, rubbing her temples with the tips of her fingers. I'd have to do something to repay her for this. I forgot seeing the future took a lot out of her.

"Well, one of them will be named Maria, after Nonna DeLuca," I said, getting a nod from Mario in return.

"I like that," He said.

"And the other?" Daisy asked. I looked at Peach and she nodded, knowing who I was thinking of.

"Leda," Peach said. "After your Nonna Mario."

~Leda's POV - Our World - Present Day~

I walked out of the candy store with my bag and I threw on my green leather jacket, with this Maria person coming after me.

"I'm telling you the truth!" She yelled.

"I don't have a twin sister," I said. "Hell, I don't even have a family!"

"But you do!" Maria yelled, rushing in front of me as her hood fell off her head. "You just haven't met them yet."

"I'm sure that's the case. But I would have nothing to say to them. They abandoned me on the side of the road, leaving me orphaned at birth," I sighed, unlocking my green Volkswagen Bug and getting ready to hop inside to head back to...well...nowhere. The orphanage I was at closed and I got tossed aside. Some system that was, huh?

"We didn't mean to!" Maria yelled. "The Dark Curse separated all of us from who we truly were!"

"Dark Curse?! Please! This isn't a fairytale!" I yelled, turning back to Maria. The fact that it looked like I was staring into a mirror didn't help my unease. "How do I know you didn't get plastic surgery to look like me?"

"Do you see any scars on my face?!"

"Besides the acne scars?" I stopped, looking at her face. Flawless, most likely because of the foundation she used. She even moved some of her hair to show the rest of her forehead. No scar marks from any kind of surgery. "No." I shook my head. "But I usually can tell when someone's lying. It's like a superpower."

"Well, use it on me! Am I lying?!" I took a breath, looking into her eyes and for a moment, something sparked. There was a fire within them, a heat from the sun. There was a heart of gold that overflowed with a light that I'd never seen in anyone before.

...

Holy cow...she was telling the truth.

"Are you really my twin sister?" I asked, getting a nod in return.

"Yes! I am!" She said. "Leda, I've been looking EVERYWHERE for you! I mean...once I remembered everything." Now I was confused.

"What's that supposed to mean?" I asked.

"The Dark Curse...it took our memories away. No one knows who they are anymore," Maria said, and I was partially ready to just get in my car and drive until I ran out of gas. But, seeing the truth in her eyes, I couldn't help but listen.

"Alright, tell me...where are we originally from?" I asked, crossing my arms and she took a deep breath, playing with the hem of her hoodie sleeve.

"Well...um..." She was hesitant, and at this point, I was going to leave her behind...until... "The Mushroom Kingdom?"

...

"And...I'm out," I said, getting into my car as she raced over.

"No, wait! Please! Believe me!"

"The Mushroom Kingdom is a made-up place for those Nintendo games! It doesn't exist!" I yelled, closing my door and rolling down the window as I started the car. She sighed, making me look at her again as she hugged that book again.

"Can you at least give me a ride back to my hometown?"

"Where's home for you?" I asked, giving her a look.

"Pixel Bay, Maine?"

...

Man, why did I just want to leave her behind so badly? Every answer she gave me had me on suspicion. Everything coming out of her mouth was suspicious to me! Hell, she could still be lying and is just really good at hiding it. But, I was a good person. I couldn't leave behind someone in need. So, I just nodded to the passenger side, making her perk up.

"Get in."

~Luigi's POV - The Mushroom Kingdom - 16 years ago...~

I looked out the window, seeing a dark cloud in the distance, sparking with lightning as Boo ghosts floated toward us.

"It's here!" I yelled, running into my room, and saw Peach screaming on the bed. "Peach?! What is it?!" I raced up to her, seeing her look at me.

"My water," She began, "it broke!" She grimaced at the pain, making me jump into action and lay her down.

"Luigi, I can't!"

"You must, sweetheart," I said. "We need to let them grow up without us so we can be together again." She nodded, understanding before screaming again.

I rushed to the door, calling for the midwife and doctor, and they rushed into the room.

"Alright, my Queen," The Midwife started, "let's have twin babies!"

About a few minutes, maybe even hours, later, Peach and I were holding our little girls, smiling at them with joy. Peach held Maria in a cute red blanket, and I had Leda in a green blanket.

They were identical in every way. Eye shape and color, face shape, skin color, everything.

But the difference between them was that Maria had a sun-shaped birthmark on her left wrist, while Leda had a crescent moon on her right.

...

Sun and Moon.

That's what Allegra said. That's what she meant. Our daughters were of the Sun and Moon.

"Guys!" Mario yelled, running and stopping the moment he saw the twins.

"Oh, wow," He smiled, walking up and looking at Leda. "They're beautiful, bro."

"Thanks, bro." I returned. Eventually, Mario remembered the threat and looked at me.

"But we have to hurry! The Dark Curse is coming!" He said. "The Warp Pipe is ready to take them!"

I looked at Peach, seeing the tears glistening in her eyes. This was heartbreaking for us. We just became a family and now, we have to push our baby birds out of the nest before they can fly.

I couldn't. But I had to.

"We have no choice, Peach," I said. She nodded and was about to get up when the castle shook violently.

"It's here!" Mario yelled.

"Luigi, we have no time!" Peach said. "I'm still too weak from giving birth!"

"Mario!?" I asked.

"I'm busy on the front lines! I need to help Toadsworth!" He said.

"I can't carry both!" I yelled. "I'll drop one!"

"Then send one out!" Allegra said as she rushed in with her dog. "And believe that they'll find each other and bring this world back!"

"But I thought both had to go!" Peach asked as the castle shook more.

"I had another path show itself to me after our last meeting," Allegra said. "This plan will still work if one is out!"

"But which one?!" Peach asked. Another tremor.

"The Moon," Allegra said, making me sigh. Of course, the one in green had to be sent away.

"Alright," I sighed. "Lead the way, bro!" He rushed out, waiting for me as I kissed my wife once more and then raced after my brother.

We ran down the halls as I held my little girl close to me. It broke me knowing I had to do this. I already loved her and had to give her up to protect the kingdom.

We made it to the Warp Pipe eventually after a few tremors knocked us around. But we managed to stay on our feet. The pipe was silver and glistened to life as the dim lighting shined on it.

"This will take her to the world we're heading to," Mario said. "And when she's 16…she'll come back."

I took a breath, looking down at the little bundle in my arms. Her little hands…her button nose that looked like Peach's…and her lovely eyes as they opened and closed while she slept.

"I'm sorry, amore mia," I whispered to her, kissing her on the forehead. "Ti amo."

And then I dropped her in the pipe before everything went dark.

~Leda's POV - Our World - Present Day~

I drove down the street, an awkward silence between me and my supposed twin sister. It was strange that we looked exactly alike. She could most definitely be my doppelganger and that's that. But those are usually never identical to you. And the fact that her eyes told me she was telling the truth made me think that my parents, whoever they were, decided that twins would have been too hard to deal with and pushed me to the side.

"So, if what you tell me is true," I began, breaking the silence as I glanced at Maria. She looked at me with wonder, "Then why is it that you got to stay with our parents?"

"Oh, well," Maria started, brushing some of her brown hair behind her ear. "Mama and Papa had to choose who would go down the Silver Warp Pipe to save us when she turned 16. And, sadly, they had chosen you."

"Oh, right, because the Dark Curse made them forget," I said sarcastically. She sighed at that.

"Yes," She replied. I heard the binding of her book opening, making me glance over for a moment before looking back at the road.

"How'd you get your license at 16?" Maria asked, not looking up.

"Mrs. Holmes made me get them at 15," I said. "Gave me this old bug for passing."

"She sounds nice," I glanced at Maria for a moment, seeing the saddened grin on her face as she looked at me. I scoffed, looking back at the road.

"Yeah...she was," I said. "Now you going to tell me about that book?"

"Oh, yeah, right," Maria sighed as she turned a page. I stopped at a red light, making me look at her. "This is a gaming guide." She said. I cocked an eyebrow at that. "But, not just any gaming guide...it's the story of our family and friends."

"Well, what's the story?" I asked, looking up as the light turned green and I started driving again.

"The story goes that King Boo, master of illusions and king of all ghosts, attacked the Mushroom Kingdom," Maria said.

"Our home?" I asked and she nodded.

"Yes," She said. "But he had help from others. Bowser, a big Koopa king, tried to kidnap the princess of this kingdom, yet again," I snorted. "But, he was unsuccessful thanks to our uncle who beat him."

"Who's our uncle?" I asked, not paying attention much, but the name she said had me wondering.

"The Superstar, Mario Mario."

"Wait, like that gaming franchise?" I asked.

"Yes!" She exclaimed.

"I thought our uncle would have been Luigi," I joked, laughing at myself. But she didn't laugh, instead, her eyes went down-turned and sad. "Wait...you're telling me that our dad is THEE Luigi Mario?" Now I was taking this seriously.

"Yeah," She said. "But, unfortunately, something happened after you were dropped into the pipe, and...he never made it to this world." I looked at her, seeing the fire in her eyes again, that flame told me she was telling the truth.

Was I just seeing things? Or was my want for a family starting to get the best of me?

"We were babies, right?" I asked after taking a deep breath. She nodded. "Then how do you know what happened?"

She perked up, thinking this answer over it seemed. I mean, no baby remembers what happened when they were an infant. No memories, nothing. So, the fact that she remembers everything is something I had to ask.

"I guess," She began, "the moment I found this book, everything came back to me. They say memories are inherited, and I'd agree. I remember what happened." I nodded, thinking that made sense even if just a little. I guess some of what she was telling me could have happened because I've had this recurring dream the past few nights of a kingdom in danger and needing help. And there was always someone calling out, asking to be set free.

"Hey, what's that on your wrist?" Maria asked, making me glance at her for a moment. She gestured to my arm resting on the armrest as I drove. I glanced at it and then up, turning it around to show her my crescent moon birthmark.

"It's just a birthmark," I said as I stopped at one more light before heading into Pixel Bay. I could see the sign from here.

"Look," I looked over...and froze. She had a birthmark as well but in the shape of the sun. Now I know she wasn't a doppelganger, for I KNOW they don't have the same tattoos or birthmarks as you.

She really was my twin.

"The light's green," She said, making me look up and see that it was. I took a breath and drove again, heading toward the sign in the distance.

...

Some birthday, huh?
