Ravenclaw

19 JULY 2001—After she had graduated from Hogwarts four years ago, Belle had promptly began an internship at the Ministry for Magic. It was a job and a foot in the door to politics, even though the Ministry was largely controlled by Death Eaters and the pay was awful.

Before long, Belle was taking on odd jobs to make ends meet. Though she lived in a tiny, crummy flat, the rent charged was insanely high, making Belle rethink her decision to stay in England instead of moving to France with her parents. But she was a strong independent woman…who was stuck taking lunch orders, filing papers and kowtowing to Dolores Umbridge. In her spare time, she walked dogs, babysat and when it was seasonal, she shoveled snow. Most nights she couldn't even stay awake long enough to read, because she was bone-tired from running on her feet all day.

Her prime source of income was baby-sitting. She only took cared for infants, because crying babies were simpler than ever-curious toddlers. Other Ministry employees also found themselves on the baby-sitting scene, though with less success. Umbridge might have temperament that flattered adults, but children saw right through her false sweetness and wailed whenever she was near. Apparently Crabbe, Belle's former captor, had also tried his hand in childcare, but he burned down the home of the first couple that he babysat for.

In fact, other than Belle's cousin's dubious childcare business, the only other witch or wizard succeeding on the babysitting scene was Sirius Black. Evidently he was good with kids, so he and Belle partnered up. This way, both could expand their appeal, and occasionally they would cover babysitting appointments for each other. This way, both could get time off.

Belle used her new free time to rekindle a relationship with Harry Potter. There weren't any fireworks of passion between them, but they had a companionable sort of relationship. They met whenever both schedules allowed. He would talk, and she would listen to his crazy theories and crazier life stories. They hadn't discussed marriage, but it was a forgone conclusion, so of course she said yes when he asked her to be his wife.
