Chapter 2 - Commercial District.
Satoru and Geto were atop of the rainbow dragon quickly heading to the nearest human civilization. While on the way all Satoru could do was ramble on about how interesting the situation they were in was.
After a while they made it just outside the city from what it looks like, glancing around they concluded the area to be some type of commercial district as many shops were laid out with some still open from the indication of light inside.
Wanting to not deal with security or even if there was none, they flew more into the city and once the area was clear with no one to witness the two they figured now would be their destination.
The rainbow dragon then descended enough that with just curse energy alone they would survive the fall unlike earlier spawning near the atmosphere. Reinforcing their bodies, both Satoru and Geto jumped down and once hitting the ground, small patches of dust smoke flew out from the impact.
"Alright, you know the plan. Our objective for now is to find a suitable form of income and information."
"Yeah yeah, we'll split up and meet back up here in the morning. Plus, if anything happens, I've got you to come running and back me up."
Geto sighed with a small smile on his face, they then each departed to complete the agreed upon objective.
Satoru was walking down the street and soon enough came to an open store; he then noticed the sign indicating what products it sold.
"It's in English… I don't think this is America or even Europe. What a pain… let's see uuuuuh from dust till dawn… I've still got it." Satoru said proudly for his English speaking and reading skills.
Walking inside, Satoru was met with an old man maybe in his late 60's, he had gray hair with almost slit eyes.
"Welcome, we were just about to close, is there anything I can help you with?" the old man said from behind the counter before turning around from whatever he was doing. Looking at Satoru he saw a tall handsome young man with white hair and from behind his sunglasses, he had blue eyes. Looking closer he swears he's seen the white hair and blue eyes somewhere before, then the revolution hit him like a truck. "A Schnee?!" screamed the man before he got to the counter to introduce himself and his establishment. "W-welcome to From Dust till Dawn, I am the owner h-here is there anything I can help you with?" He said stuttering with his words because it's not everyday someone of the Schnee family would just suddenly walk in.
"Schnee? Is that some kind of clan? From how shocked he is, I can use this to my advantage." Satoru thought, wanting to take advantage of the name Schnee though he isn't the type to take advantage of others but now wasn't really the time for moral arguments, plus if this Schnee family sends assassins after him he'll just beat them all.
Walking up to the counter, Satoru came face to face with the store owner. "I…"
"He isn't going to buy out my store, is he?" The store owner thought not wanting to lose his establishment.
"I…"
"I what? What is he going to say?"
"I…" the room then became quiet and tense. The gravity in the air felt heavy and for some reason the old man was sweating as he waited for a reply from the young Schnee.
"I… want a job." Satoru said, lifting up a thumb.
The store owner looked at the youngster curiously still dumbfounded by the answer he was given. He couldn't say anything and for an entire minute thing stayed that way.
"Is something wrong…?" Satoru said out loud causing the old man to jolt back into reality.
"O-oh no, nothing's wrong. I was just simply surprised."
"Then about that job." Satoru said, reminding the old man of his request from a minute ago which he still never got a reply to.
"Right away…" the old man said before hurrying into one of his drawers pulling out a paper. Soon enough he hurried back and put the paper he was holding atop of the counter with a pen. "Here's a document explaining the job and just sign here if you think you're a fit for the job."
Pulling the paper closer, Satoru read through it and after a minute or so later, he took the pen from the counter and soon signed it.
"When can I start?"
Geto was walking in the opposite direction from Satoru and from a dark alleyway he could sense something, it was the same feeling he'd usually get when encountering a curse spirit… suddenly Geto rushed into the dark alleyway soon turning a corner before seeing a curse spirit that resembled a human. It had four arms, and a skeleton-like body, even the head resembled that of a skull. It was on top of women just about to devour them.
Seeing how the woman was just about to die from a bite from the curse, Geto raised his arm aiming it directly at the curse in front of him, blue light then engulfed the curse swirling with energy. The curse then began to disintegrate in front of the women putting more fear into her. Its body began to lose shape as parts of it were ripped off one by one slowly turning smaller into a ball that glowed blue in front of Geto. He then took it and swallowed it tasting the usual dirty rag that's been used to clean up shit and vomit. With a gulp, he looked at the women in front of him now with a better view from earlier.
She had melanin skin, brown hair, and eyes. She wore your typical citizen clothing with a black jacket, red shirt, dark blue jeans and your normal footwear.
"Just take the lien in my purse and don't hurt me."
"She's speaking English?" Geto questioned just hoping his English was good enough for a normal conversation before coming to his senses soon replying. "I'm not going to rob you or anything."
Hearing this, the women stood up in front of Geto, she looked around and asked. "Where is that scary looking faunest from earlier?"
"Faunest? Is that what they called the curse spirits here?"
"Curse spirit…?"
"My bad, I was thinking out loud and for your question, he's gone. I took care of him."
The women then soon came back to her senses and remember the youngster in front of her did something to make him disappear.
"Are you a huntsman?"
"Huntsman?" Geto questioned without changing his expression.
"Y'know the people that protect us front he grim."
"Grim?" Geto thought this time as he didn't want to seem like he was incompetent. Deciding to lie and make his job easier he said. "Yes, in fact I am a huntsman…"
"You seem a little young to be a huntsman."
"I'm a huntsman in training." Geto lied again.
"Oh, so you must be from Beacon academy."
"I'm not a student in Beacon academy but I am…" Geto lied again but couldn't come up with an answer.
"The new first years. Everyone's been talking about it, it's that time a year after all."
Geto then took this opportunity with the information he was given and made up a quick lie. "Y-yes, I'm a new student planning to go to Beacon academy."
"How great. Well then, thank you for your services future huntsman."
The brown-haired women then soon began walking away but before she could Geto asked her a question.
"Do you know anyone who's looking to hire?"
"Huh…?"
It was now the next day and Geto was able to get a somewhat stable income from the women who he'd just saved yesterday. Originally, he would've been paid minimum but since he saved her life, he was now paid a little over minimum, but it still doesn't change the fact that it was still in the minimum range, and he had his job to blame for that.
Inside he worked as a barista tending to customers. Right now, he was in the middle of getting a cup for someone who had just ordered.
"Here you go, I hope you enjoy it." Geto said smiling but it only made things worse as the smile wasn't natural especially the amount of weird bang insults he's been getting; it definitely didn't make the experience any better. Sighing he could only think about how Satoru was doing, and he needed to speak with him immediately about the curse spirit he found yesterday.
Then came a commotion outside, he could hear it all, girls screaming but it wasn't the type of screaming that someone fearful would do but it was full of excitement and had giggles to go along with it.
His boss whom he saved yesterday came out of the back room. "Hey, can you check outside and tell everyone to be quiet and leave if they aren't going to order anything."
"Sure." Geto replied and soon enough he was at the door. Once opening the door, he saw. "Satoru?"
Satoru was posing in front of the cafe with girls giggling, squirming and fainting. Imaginary sparkles and flowers appeared behind him as he kept posing.
"Take off your sunglasses!" one of the girls said and the second he took off his glasses, all you could hear was "SQUEE! He's so hot!"
Finally noticing Geto, Satoru immediately put back on his glasses. "I'm sorry ladies but I'll have to go."
"Do you really have to?" every one of the girls all said together.
"May we meet again." Satoru said walking away into the light while all the girls cried goodbye but in reality, he was just walking up to Geto and with a bit of talking to his boss Geto was allowed 10 minutes away to talk to his friend.
"So, Satoru, what have you found out?"
"Apparently, I look like a Schnee."
"The Schnee Dust Company? The largest dust producers and exporters in Remnant?"
"Apparently my white hair and blue eyes trick others into thinking I'm all rich and mighty."
"Doesn't that count as…"
"Impersonation." Satoru finished Geto's sentence.
"And you're not going to correct him?"
"I'm just gonna let things happen and if someone is sent after me, I'll just beat them."
"And about that job…"
"I found one in some store called From Dust Till Dawn. The owner has been treating me like a king ever since I started working there. I could leave whenever I want and still keep the job."
"Doesn't that count as extortion?"
"Survival of the fittest, plus I'm practically also like a security guard; the strongest security guard."
"Still doesn't change the fact that it's still extortion." Geto said remembering what he was going to talk about with Satoru.
"Satoru, I… encountered a curse spirit yesterday."
At this Satoru's behavior changed instantly, he became serious and quiet.
"It was just a weak grade four curse, so I took care of it with no difficulty. But the real problem lies in how is one in this world. When I first mentioned it to my boss who was attacked by it yesterday, she knew nothing of curses."
"Curses are the foundation of negative emotion and energy but since you already know that the only reason would be…"
"Our presence, I've already come to the same conclusion but knowing that we are the reason for the appearance of curses, I wanted to deny it."
"You want to find a way home as fast as possible, correct?"
"If possible, yes but the chances of that are one in a billion, maybe less."
"Well, all we can do now is enjoy things until then."
Then someone came bursting through the door again and it was Geto's boss. "Times up, either quit or keep working."
"I guess I've gotta go, it's about time you should go back too. Oh, and you did find a place to stay at?"
All Satoru could reply was "no…" and you're probably questioning where he slept or did he even sleep at all? he didn't sleep.
Both Satoru and Geto then went their separate ways again and with the little money they had, it would be a while before they could afford a place.
End of Chapter 2.
Note:
Thank you for reading the second chapter of my fanfic. Again, this chapter is also rather short but like I said I want to get into the feel of posting chapters without contemplating whether it's good enough or not.
I now want to explain a few things and for anyone wondering, no I did not read the reviews, I can start answering things next chapter if there are any questions. My reason: I wanted to get this chapter out before reading the reviews because it's been in my computer for the past two weeks now. I've also been binging RWBY so yeah…
Firstly, I've decided to Keep Gojo and Sugaru as a duo for the rest of the fanfic because curse spirits will start appearing. I say this because in JJK, Gojo's presence itself strengthened curse spirits to balance out the power struggle and because there's no curse spirits in RWBY. I decided that because of the presence of Gojo himself, curses will start to appear, at the same time I don't think Ozpin would allow his students to go on suicide missions which is why they'll stay as a duo.
This is also an option to get Gojo and Sugaru back into their world, they've just gotta wait until another special grade with dimensional abilities to reappear or the one they were originally fighting just randomly appearing one day, but this is only two of the many routes I could take, ideas are always welcomed.
Secondly, I wanted to say was that Gojo and Sugaru aren't special grade sorcerers, it's been confirmed that Sugaru is only a grade one or above grade one but below special and for Gojo I'm not really sure. Just wanted to say this in case anyone was wondering how I was going to scale them; they'll be powerful but not invulnerable. One big weakness I'll give them would be that dust attacks are very effective because of the difference in power systems.
Thirdly, I won't keep Gojo and Sugaru in the story for too long because in the later volumes, years have passed and knowing this, I don't feel like keeping them in this world for too long.
For anyone wondering if they're just gonna speed run the story? No, obviously not, in the JJK anime or manga the spotlight is almost evenly divided between different characters so I'll be doing the same here leaving Gojo and Sugaru as trump cards for when things get tough but at the same time put them in a situation where they'll have the spotlight for most of the story and example being stronger opponents.
For anyone wondering why this fanfic is rated M, it is because I can't really risk using a lower rating for something that could potentially go against guidelines and as a new writer, I'm just being cautious, not mention the swearing which will frequently appear just because of the two.
