Korra and Naga were walking on the street. Korra still couldn't believe that some people dared say to others that the benders were evil. Maybe next time she would punch that protester. But right now, Korra was slowly walking on the street, trying to figure out where the Air Temple Island was located. She wanted to learn air bending.
Korra approached a couple sitting outside a shop. "Excuse me, do you know where the Air Temple Island is?" Korra asked.
"It's in that location," said the elderly woman.
Korra noticed a red car drive by; it stopped, and three men exited the vehicle. A few people on the street entered their shops, apparently scared.
"It's time to collect protection," said a man wearing red clothes.
"I don't have any money," said the shop's owner. "Do you want to take this?"
Korra saw that the shop's owner offered a musical instrument. One of the men threw it on the ground and another burnt the object. "We need money, cash," said another man, who wore blue clothes.
"Leave him alone," said Korra, unwilling to stand idle anymore. These people clearly picked a wrong neighborhood to threaten this day.
The three men laughed. "Girl, it's clear you are fresh off the boat. Let me make it clear, we are the Triple Threads, we own this neighborhood. And we are about to put you in the hospital," said a man wearing blue clothing.
"You are the ones who will end up in a hospital, and I hope there is one nearby," said Korra. She put her fists together.
"Who do you think you are?" asked one of the triad members.
"Come and find out," said Korra, grinning.
The man wearing blue clothes threw a jet of water at Korra, who extended her hand and sent the water back. Upon impact, the water turned into ice around the man's head; he fell on the ground.
Korra then put her right food in front of her, and stomped on the ground. A portion of pavement rose in the air and pushed a man wearing green clothes in the air. He soon landed on the ground as well.
A man wearing red clothes shot a small fire ball at Korra, who caught it, and waved her hands. She heard a few people say "I think she is the Avatar."
Korra jumped, grabbed the man wearing red clothes and threw him at a nearby window. The window shattered, and the man lay among various musical instruments.
"Do you have any idea who I am now?" Korra smirked.
All three men stood up and sent their respective elemental attacks at Korra at the same time. While Korra dodged the rock bolder and the fire ball, she slipped on the ice below her feet, and fell.
"You will not mess with the Triple Threads," said the fire bender, approaching Korra.
A person jumped from the roof of one of the buildings; she landed on the ground gracefully. The woman was around Korra's age; her hair was raven-black, and her eyes were green.
The woman jumped towards the fire bender, easily dodging his fire balls. She then pointed her fingers in several places on his body and quickly punched the man. He fell on the ground.
The fire bender tried to send fire again but was unable to do so. "A chi blocker!" The fire bender stood up and jumped into the red car; the water and earth benders also jumped in.
"They are not getting away," said Korra, throwing several punches.
Rocks rose from the ground and blocked the road. Another rock rose and collided with the car, throwing it at the window of a shop.
"Thanks for the help," said Korra, looking at the woman with raven hair.
"Name is Asami," said Asami. "That's a lot of unnecessary damage,"
"I had it under control," said Korra.
"You did great; I mean you did stop these Triads from hurting these people. I just think next time maybe use some restraint. Don't worry, I can help with the property damage you caused," said Asami.
The women heard sirens; soon Metal Benders arrived on the scene. "Oh hey, you are the police, right? Officers, we caught these men threatening these people," said Korra.
One Metal Bender approached the three triad members and used his metal cables to tie them up, arresting them. "You are also under arrest for property damage," said the officer, looking at Korra.
"I can cover for that," said Asami.
"Tell that to the Chief. I am taking both of you in," said the officer.
Korra called Naga, and quickly climbed on her polar-bear dog, extending her hand to Asami, who took her hand, and sat right behind Korra. Naga ran, trying to escape, but soon was captured by the metal benders.
Korra and Asami sat in a small cell by the table. A woman in her fifties in metal uniform stood in the cell, reading them their charges. "You got it all wrong. I saw some thugs attack and … you see, I am the Avatar, and it is my duty to help people," said Korra.
"You should have called the police," said the officer woman.
"Police would have been late. And besides, the metal benders don't help enough," said Asami. The officer woman looked at her.
"After I deal with the Avatar, you and I will have a long talk, Miss Sato. I am aware of what you have been up to in the last few years, but I haven't had an opportunity to speak with you directly. Since you helped the Avatar destroy public property, I now can also talk to you as well," said the officer.
"I want to speak with the person in charge," said Korra.
"You are talking to her," said the officer. "My name is Chief Lin Beifong,"
"Chief Beifong? You are Toph's daughter!" exclaimed Korra.
"Yes, but that means nothing to me, you are in trouble, young Avatar," said Lin.
A metal bender opened the window. "Chief Beifong, Councilman Tenzin is here," said the officer.
Lin sighed. "Let him in," said Lin.
Tenzin entered the cell, and looked at everyone inside. "O hey Tenzin. I got a little side tracked on my way to see you," said Korra.
Tenzin looked at Lin. "You look radiant, as usual," said Tenzin.
"Cut the garbage Tenzin, I thought you were moving to the South Pole to train her," said Lin.
"Unfortunately I couldn't stay. The Avatar will be going back, and I will take full responsibility for the damages," said Tenzin.
"No," said Asami. Everyone looked at her. "Korra came here to become the Avatar. Yes, Korra needs some restraint and she did cause some property damage –"
"Hey!" Korra exclaimed.
"But Korra wants to help. And realistically, you need her help. The city is overrun by the triads, and now the equalists are on the rise. I don't trust them. I will personally cover the damages," said Asami.
"You and I will have a long conversation after this, Miss Sato," said Lin.
"My father will not be happy that you detained his daughter without any justification," said Asami. Lin glared at her.
"I want to stay. I am the Avatar, it is my duty to help people. Avatar Aang saved the world when he defeated Firelord Ozai. Now it's my time to save this city," said Korra.
"Korra can stay on Air Temple Island under some supervision," said Asami.
"Hey, I don't need any supervision," said Korra as Asami looked at her.
"You can go. Don't give me an excuse to bring you back here," said Lin, opening the door. Tenzin led Korra and Asami out.
"Thank you for helping me out," said Korra, looking at Asami, who smiled. Korra blushed.
They soon arrived at the Air Temple Island. Naga run off to check the surroundings, while Tenzin's three children arrived to greet Korra.
"Korra!" said all three Air babies at once.
"Beautiful lady, can I have some of your hair?" Meelo asked Asami. She shook her head.
Tenzin showed where Korra would be staying. "We will train in the morning. For now, get rest," said Tenzin, leaving Korra and Asami in Korra's room. Since there was only one chair, they both sat on the bed.
"It was impressive how you defeated that triad member," said Korra. While she didn't say it out loud, Korra also thought it was hot.
"I trained since I was little. I am not a bender, so I had to learn how to defend myself. A few years ago, I decided that I shouldn't just know how to defend myself. I sneaked out of my house at night, and patrolled the city, frequently fighting triads," said Asami.
"Very impressive. You got to show me some of those moves, Asami," said Korra. Asami smiled.
"I need to go. I will see you tomorrow; I don't want my dad to be worried," said Asami, standing up from the bed. She then approached Korra and hugged her, before breaking the hug and walking away.
Korra lay on her bed, thinking about the events of the day. Several hours passed. When Korra decided to take a nap, a window opened, and a few people climbed inside. Korra stood up, sent fire, but the masked people quickly used their fingers to hit Korra. She then lost consciousness.
When Korra opened her eyes, she saw that she was sitting on a chair. She stood up and tried to bend, but was unable to do so. "I see you are awake," said a mysterious stranger.
"Where am I? What do you want from me?" Korra asked.
"My name is Amon. I am here to save the city from the benders. My fellow equalists chi blocked you, you cannot use your bending for a few hours. I just wanted to talk," said Amon.
Korra stood up. "Listen up, pal. You are wrong. Bending is awesome. I don't know what game you are playing, but I will stop you," said Korra. Amon approached her, and hit her in a few spots, pushing her back to the chair.
"I am the solution to the city's problems. I am not here to have you join me, on the contrary, you are my enemy. I want you to know that there is something coming; I have plans for this city and the world. And you will be powerless to stop me. You are just a young girl who only knows how to bend three elements. I will destroy you, Avatar," said Amon.
Korra laughed. "I am the Avatar. I am here to save the city. You are just like the triads, and I will defeat you," said Korra.
"Hmm, perhaps a demonstration of my power is needed," said Amon. He called one of his men to bring him a prisoner. The equalist delivered him a fire bender bandit.
"Amon! I will finally destroy you," said the fire bender, as he sent fire at Amon.
Amon easily dodged; he ran towards the fire bender, grabbed him by his neck, and then pressed a finger on his head.
The fire bender tried sending fire but was unable to do so. He fell on the ground. "Your bending is gone. Forever," said Amon, as he looked at Korra.
"No, no, this cannot be happening," thought Korra. "This Amon, he can take bending away! Oh no, I don't want to lose my bending, no, please spare me, my bending."
A few equalists grabbed the fire bender and carried him away from the room, leaving Amon alone with Korra.
"No, get away from me," said Korra, as Amon approached her. He scared Korra by moving his right hand close to her face, but then moved it away.
"I am not going to take your bending away, not yet. Believe me, Avatar, I will take your bending. You will be the last person to lose it," said Amon. "My men can still roughen you up. Hmm, maybe I should let them beat you up before I return you to your new accommodations. But know this, I am a man of my word, I will end you. You will lose your bending,"
Amon then used his hands to hit Korra in a few places on her body; she lost consciousness. When Korra opened her eyes again, she sat in her bed. She tried to bend, but couldn't create any fire.
Korra cried. Tears escaped her eyes. She felt vulnerable. While she knew that Amon didn't take her bending away, she was scared. Korra took a deep breath and felt warmth. She remembered how she and Asami protected people in the streets. She was looking forward spending time with the beautiful lady. Korra smiled, looking at her hand. A small fire formed on her palm. Yes, Korra would defeat this Amon. She knew she was strong, and she would not let this man intimidate her.
Note: Wanted to write an au of season 1, where Korra met Asami way earlier. Asami here not only knows how to fight, but also sneaks out and fights triads at night. Slow burn Korrasami, where both will go on a few dates before getting together. No love triangle. I want to explore Korra and Asami friendship in season 1. I also want Asami to be a bit more assertive and play a more major role in season 1 storyline. I plan to resume other fanfics too.
