THANKSGIVING EVE

"Oh KitKat," Her auntie squeezed.

"I'm fine Tia," She sighed.

"Ciao bella, come stai," Her uncle in law kissed her one the cheek.

"I'm doing well," She smiled as he released her from the hug.

"We heard you had a health scare we got a phone call from Nate," her uncle in law

"I'm doing good now, it was just appendicitis," Kat she smooth her coat down.

"Well where is he, I thought he'd be coming with you," her auntie looked around.

For a split second Kat thought it would be better to lie. It was really no one's business who she was with.

"Yeah I'm no longer with him," Kat smiled.

"What," Her aunt asked, confused?

"It's nothing," Kat sighed.

"What do you mean it's nothing, you were supposed to get married," Her auntie frowned.

"I'm with a new guy," Kat quickly lied.

"Oh," Her Tia Cece mumbled as Kat passed her by.

"Is he nice," Her uncles questioned?

"Of course."

"So how's it going over there," Jackson asked?

"It's going about as good as it can get," Kat sighed.

"What does that even mean," Jackson wondered?

"It's means my brothers are acting like they're five, my auntie is fussing over me and my uncle who's not really my uncle is bombarding me with questions. The only one on my side is my Tio Frankie."

"Well at least you have one ally during your time there."

"I'm not going into war Jackson."

"You made it seem like that not me, I just played along."

"Yeah, yeah how's the hospital."

"Hospitally."

"Why is it everytime we talk on the phone you get all weird," Kat questioned?

"I'm not a phone guy I like face to face conversation," Jackson answered.

"So you're secretly sixty three, interesting," Kat laughed.

"No im just a bit old fashion in that sense," Jackson tried to defend himself.

"Of course my apologies," Kat joked.

"So your mom's not at thanksgiving," Jackson asked?

"So now the questions are back on me?"

"Just answer the question," Jackson rolled his eyes, Kat could sense it through the phone.

"She's been sick, my brother Devin's been taking care of her. They hired a nurse to watch her for the week while Devin's away. My dad used to help but he needs help moving around now so he can't really help that much," Kat explained.

"Oh at least your family is some what normal," Jackson sighed.

"Stop playing the victim while you eat on the finest china and with silverware made of actual silver," Kat rolled her eyes.

"Actually it's gold, and I only had three that should be an indicator of being poor," Jackson pointed out.

"Or this is just some attempt at cosplaying as a poor person."

"Very funny, Kat."

"I know I try." Kat paused. "Why do you live with us though?"

"My mom doesn't know where I am, last she heard I was graduating from med school. She offered me a job at all the Harper Avery hospitals even a spot a mass gen. But I wanted to get in somewhere on my own merits."

"And Mercy West was the only place that would accept you?"

"No it was just the farthest away from my mother."

"KitKat foods almost ready," Her auntie shouted.

"KitKat," Jackson smirked.

"Never ever call me that again," Kat rolled her eyes.

"Okay KitKat," Jackson teased.

"I have to go," Kat grunted through the teeth.

"Eating already?"

"I guess, time to get grilled about my love life?"

"My offer still stand I can be in Connecticut in less than 24 hours."

"I'm good Jackson."

"Alright then, call me later."

"Will do," Kat said before hanging up her phone.

"Coming Tia," Kat called out.

THANKSGIVING DAY

"Hey looking for Mark Sloan," A blonde women asked?

"Oh he's with a patient, I'll let him know you're waiting," Karev sighed.

"I'll just go over there," She said walking off.

"Ma'am he's with a patient you can't go over there," Karev tried to stop her but she wouldn't listen.

"Are you Mark Sloan," She asked, looking her up and down.

"In the flesh, who's asking though," He turned back to the stitches in front of him.

"This is um weird but think I'm your sister,"She blurted.

They walked in silence as Dr. Torres escorted them to conference room.

"You gotta talk to her eventually you should start now," Callie whispered, as they made it to the room.

"No thank you," Mark whispered backs she entered the room.

They sat on opposite sides of the table. Mark crossed her arms while Maisie rest her head on her knuckles. Wait for the other to crack. It was a fight for dominance. Neither one wanted to be the first. So they sat filling the air with heavy sighs and faint groans. Mark started to get uncomfortable it looked like he could've broken at any moment. He leaned forward and open his mouth as of to speak but nothing came out. He shook his head before lean back into the seat.

"Hi," Dr. Torres entered the room with a bucket of supplies. "How's it, uh, how's it going in here?"

"Great"

"Amazing"

"Okay," Callie sighed. "So have we broached the question of a dna test?"

"We don't need one I brought my birth certificate."

"I still want to dna test, cuz I don't remember my mom being pregnant," Mark said.

"Fine," Maisie rolled her eyes.

After Callie left the room, Maisie was the first to speak.

"I want you to know I wasn't stalking you or anything, I going to take the job at Seattle Pres. Seattle Grace offered more, but I don't want to invade your space ," Maisie said.

"Where are you from," Mark wondered?

"France, originally I was born in Massachusetts. I moved to Nice, France when I was two. Then we moved back to the state before my fifteenth birthday," Maisie explained.

"You have no accent," Mark questioked?

"Yea, I went to international school, French was my second language. I only spoke it on the streets and barely, because everyone wanted to speak with me in English."

"Seriously?"

"Being an American in Paris is not what they make it out to be."

"Sloan," Derek called out as he entered the room.

"Yes," they both answered.

"It's my middle name," Maisie let out a nervous giggle.

"Mark I need you on something," Derek sighed.

" I have a sister Derek," Mark smiled once they exited the room.

"Yes," Derek smirked at his excitement.

"A sister," Mark repeated, his voice going higher.

"I have a gaggle of them you're not special," Derek laughed.

"I mean all my life I was alone till middle school when you moved next door. And now I know I didn't have to be alone all those years."

"Okay can we put a pin in your existential crisis for a minute."

"I wouldnt call it a crisis but sure."

"Dr. Robbins and I have a 6 year old with an inoperable a.v.m. .We need your help to make it operable," Derek explained.

"Hey Kat how's your thanksgiving," Jackson spoke once Kat answered the phone.

"It's going good," Kat huffed.

"Well that's good I guess?"

"Yeah, how are you," Kat changed the subject.

"Why are you being so weird," Jackson asked?

"I'm not being weird answer my question," Kat tried to deflect.

"Yes you are being weird," Jackson persisted.

"Now you're being weird for not answering my question," said Kat.

"Kat," Jackson sighed.

"Fine , I told my aunt im in a relationship," Kat explained.

"So you lied to her, fine," Jackson rolled his eyes.

"With you," Kat finished.

"What."

"I know I know I'm a bad friend and I've taken advantage of our situation. I'm sorry," Kat apologized.

"No it's fine, just funny," Jackson laughed.

"What am I not girlfriend material," Kat questioned?

"Not mine," Jackson replied.

"Id slap you if you were next to me."

"Slap me later I just got paged."

"I'm so happy your here," Her Tia Cece smiled as set the table.

"I can help you with that tia Cece," Kat offered.

"No, you sit down you're a guess tonight," her aunt smiled.

"Tio Frankie back me up," Kat looked to her uncle in law.

"What ever she wants she gets," he smiled.

"Your brothers should be back any moment, anyway," Tia cece

"Okay."

Kat searched through the channels but nothing good was on. It was a toss up between a thanksgiving hallmark movie or the news. So she choice the hallmark movie. Around 15 minutes in to the movie, the boys came back.

"Make sure you shake off that snow," Kat spoke as she heard footsteps approaching.

"But then how would you know I love you," Devin laughed.

"What," Kat raised an eyebrow.

Devin came over in his snow cover snow suit and wrapped Kat in a big ole hug.

"Stop it you're going to get the couch wet," Kat groaned trying to get him off her.

"Do you not love me anymore is that why you don't want a hug," Devin laughed letting her go.

"Maybe she too bougie for a hug," Kenji rolled his eyes.

"You're wet that's why I don't want a hug," Kat shoved him.

"Fine."

"I never understood why you didn't go into wrestling professionally," Tio Marco, her Tio Frankie's cousin.

She looked to Frankie to back her up.

"Well she's a doctor now at a real hospital, making the big bucks," He smiled.

"If she has so much money why is Devin taking care of your parents," Tio Marco.

"I live in town that's why, you didn't ask Ken why he isn't helping," Devin spoke up.

"Kens an engineer working for the city," Tio Marco smiled.

"Yea like my jobs not important," Kat bit back a laugh.

"Being a doctor is important but a doctor isn't a women's job," Tio Marco argued.

"And wrestling is?"

"The wwe got all them girls maybe you could do something like that," Marco mentioned.

"Cuz parading around in spandex isn't as good as saving life's," Kat huffed.

"I didn't say that, you know you women get sensitive, hearing what you want to hear."

"I don't know how you hang out with this guy Tio Frankie," Kat huffed.

"Marco," Tia Cecilia shouted.

"What I'm just being honest," Marco shrugged.

"I think you should go," Frankie sighed.

"He shouldn't have to leave, I'll go," Kat got up.

"No, wait," Devin tried to grab her arm.

"What," Kat pushed him away.

"Stay let's talk about it," Devin urged.

"No just let her go," Kenji rolled his eyes.

" Kenji's right, just let me go," Kat sighed.

"Then let me take you to a hotel, you'd be hard pressed to find a taxi this late on a holiday," Devin offered.

"Sure," Kat groaned.

"You know you didn't have to leave," Devin tried, keeping his eyes on the road.

"But I did though ever since Jackie died that house has been different. She was our glue," Kat looked down at her hands.

"What do you mean?"

"She never let us fight, not when she healthy and especially not when she was dying. Jackie would joke to help comb over a situation. And we'd laugh so hard we would forget what we were arguing over to begin with."

"I guess you're right, I know you had a close relationship with Jackie."

"She was like a sister," Kat tried her best not to cry.

"I know," Devin sighed.

"Sometimes I just miss her especially when shit like this happens. She wouldn't have let Marco talk about me like that. She would've threw him out after she cussed him out."

"Yeah."

"She would've stood up for me."

"I did," Devin argued

"I know," But it wasn't good enough Kat thought to herself.

"I know you're not at your old hospital anymore," Devin began.

"What," Kat said.

"I kinda figured it out when you had to travel by plane to get here when you used to only live a couple hours away. But I decided to check the website and you're not on it any more," Devin explained.

"I'm in Seattle now," Kat mumbled.

"Really and you didn't think to tell me?"

"You and I where never that close so don't act like it," Kat rolled her eyes.

"I'm your big brother, Kat I should know these things," Devin sighed.

"Well that's news to me," Kat exasperated.

"Kat don't be like that," Devin sighed.

"Don't be like what."

"All distant."

"You're making shit up in your head," Kat rolled her eyes.

"No I'm not you're closing me out just like you used to do back then."

"That's because you all pushed me away."

"That's not true."

"Yes it is and you know it is," Kat said on the verge of tears.

"I never pushed you away," Devin reach his hand out.

Kat didnt take it.

"Let's just drop this okay," Kat pushed down the tears.

Devin sighed, rolling his eyes in disbelief.

"Fine."

"Hi"

"Hello"

"Hey," The three women greeted as Mark and Maisie entered the apartment. Lexie chopping some vegetable, Arizona and Callie stood there watching.

"Welcome. Happy thanksgiving who wants wine," Dr. Torres offered.

"I do," Maisie sighed.

"Me too," Mark sighed in the same manner. "Umm hey everybody, we'll the results are in."

"The results for what," Lexie asked?

"You didn't tell your girlfriend," Maisie slapped.

"You can't slap me, you barely even know me," Mark complained.

"I'm your sister I got 32 years of punches to make up for," Maisie hit him again.

"I was going to tell them," Mark whined.

"Sister," Lexie repeated.

"Yea, I'm Maisie nice to meet you all," She introduced,

"Maisie will be staying with us for a while," Mark added.

Lexie froze as the knife when down right on her finger, chopping of the tip.

"Oh, my god," Arizona rushed over with a towel.

Maisies eyes went wide.

"Geez, it wasn't even like you said daughter," Maisie huffed.

Lexie let out a small "Ouch"

"Don't joke like that," Mark eyes went wide at the thought.

"And it's not like I'm living with you indefinitely im just staying here for a bit till I find an apartment," She tried to smooth over the situation.

"Lexie is amazing I just kind of sprung this on her she'll come around though," Mark sighed.

"Sorry I'm not normal like this I wasn't paying attention," Lexie held her finger with a kitchen towel around it.

"It's fine you're the one missing a finger tip," Maisie waved it off.

"We need to go the hospital," Mark sighed.

"I hope she didn't bloody up the mash potatoes," they all looked at her as if they'd seen a ghost.

"Joking, sorry," Maisie cleared the air.
