Chapter 11
Once everyone was assembled at the base of the tunnel, Albus asked the Hat if calling Fawkes now would help. Before the Hat could reply, Fawkes flamed down to them.
"Fawkes, can you sense Harry?" asked the Headmaster.
Fawkes let out a trill of what sounded like puzzlement, then nodded his head. Everyone put a hand on a tailfeather and were transported to where Harry was laying on the ground by the side of the basilisk. There was a basilisk fang on the ground beside him. His scar showed an imprint of where the fang impacted it and there was a bit of dried blood and some black tar-like substance there as well.
The three men ran to Harry to see if he was still alive but were quickly put in their place by Madam Pomfrey, "Gentlemen if I'm to do my job I need to get to my patient. Move away!"
They quickly obeyed. Madam Pomfrey waved her wand over him and let out a sigh of relief, "He's alive. He's very weak, but he is alive. I need to get him to the Hospital Wing immediately."
Remus quickly volunteered, "I'll carry him." He squatted down and quickly lifted the boy into his arms.
"Fawkes, can you take Harry, Remus, and Madam Pomfrey to the Hospital Wing and then come back for us?" asked Albus.
Sirius barged in, "I'm going with my godson now!" and took hold of a tailfeather.
"If you must, Sirius, then we shall all go together. If you would be so kind, Fawkes."
"If I may interrupt," the Hat said, "you'll also need to return and close the entrance to the Chamber."
"We will do that once Harry is safely in the Hospital Wing, Godric."
Everyone grabbed a tailfeather and they were quickly transported to the Hospital Wing. As soon as Remus put Harry down on a bed, Madam Pomfrey took charge, "OUT! Everybody out right now so I may tend to my patient!"
Everyone tried to talk at once trying to say why they should be the one to stay with Harry, but Albus took charge, "Yes, everyone out except for Sirius. We don't need to scare anyone at the moment. Mr. Weasley, you may remain until Madam Pomfrey can clear you. I will open the waiting room next door for those wishing to remain close." He then herded the remaining people out the doors.
Madam Pomfrey ran her wand over Harry again, this time with more thoroughness. As she was doing it, Fawkes flew over to the bed and once again dropped tears into Harry's wound. The wound sealed up leaving a barely noticeable lightning bolt scar.
"I wouldn't have believed it if I hadn't seen it with my own eyes, Headmaster. The fang didn't penetrate the skull. The venom was contained to the area surrounding his scar. I can see lingering traces of dark magic, but it is rapidly dissipating, especially with Fawkes' tears. The only reason I can think of as to why he's not dead is that he already had a mixture of basilisk venom and phoenix tears in his system."
"But he's going to be alright, isn't he Poppy?" asked Sirius.
"Yes, Mr. Black, your godson will be fine. He is still suffering from magical exhaustion, but that is recovering as well."
"Then why isn't he awake yet?" asked Sirius.
"Harry has suffered a great magical as well as mental stress on his system. He will come around on his own. While he is resting, I'm going to run a deep scan on him to see what other trauma this young man has suffered. He must have an animagus form of some sort of cat as by my calculations he's already used up five of his nine lives."
Ron spoke up, "But what about me, Madam Pomfrey?"
The mediwitch strode over to his bed and waved her wand over his leg then vanished the bandages supporting it, "This leg is as good as new now. Off you go."
