Chapter Forty Seven

Bobby shook his head as they worked on fixing the Colt. "I just don't like it. These whackjobs are still out there wanting to kill Sam. God knows what they were going to do with my baby girl."

"I know. I don't like it either." Dean agreed.

He sighed setting his screwdriver down. "Unfortunately, I know I can't make her stay home. She's as stubborn as they come."

The blonde in question huffed rolling her eyes at them. "Actually I was thinking of staying home for a bit. I still feel a little, um, shaken up."

"Take all the time you need, sweetheart. They're never going to hurt you again." Dean assured her pressing a kiss to her head.

Ruby smiled softly at that. "Yeah I know. It's nothing some quality time at home won't fix."

"Uh, sorry to interrupt, but I think I found a hunt." Sam approached them.

He was mostly healed by now from his gunshot wound so it wasn't out of the question for him to be looking for a new hunt. Ruby was still rightfully concerned for the Winchesters though. Not only was the FBI still after them, but now Sam was being hunted by two crazy guys. It had also been two months since Dean had made the deal to bring Sam back. Knowing that they were going to lose Dean sooner rather than later broke her heart though she tried to stay strong for the Winchesters. It was a little while later after he finished packing to go when Dean found Ruby standing on the front porch.

"What's wrong?" His arms slid around her waist holding her close from behind.

The blonde sighed relaxing in his embrace. "I keep thinking about that time with the Djinn. There was a part of me that had hoped marriage and kids were still a possibility for our future. Now that I know there is no our future, It just breaks my heart."

"I know. I'm so sorry. I wanted nothing more than to keep that promise to you, Ruby." Dean's arms tightened around her waist a little.

Ruby turned around to face him and smiled slightly. "I'm not mad that you saved Sam. I would have done anything to bring him back too. I just hate that I only have a few more months left with you."

"I hate it too. I don't regret saving Sam, but I regret having to leave you." He admitted and leaned in kissing her softly.

She kissed him back smiling softly against his lips. It was then that she made a silent vow to herself to enjoy the time that they had left together. Ruby wanted to make as many happy memories with Dean as she could.

While the boys were off on their next hunt, Bobby was back in the yard working on the Colt. A woman he didn't recognize appeared and he instinctively shot her when her eyes turned fully black. It didn't really seem to affect her though.

Bobby glared at her. "What do you want?"

"I want to help you get the Colt working again." She offered.

The blonde walked up beside her dad looking none too happy. "Out of the goodness of your heart right? Just like you manipulated Sam into thinking you can keep his brother out of hell?"

"Damn she's good. I see Sam has mentioned me. I'm not manipulating him though." Kristy smiled at them.

Her blue eyes rolled at the demon. "Oh please! If you were truly being honest about helping to keep Dean out of Hell, why would you only go to Sam? Why would you not come to me as well?"

"Because Sam actually wants to try to save his brother. You're too emotional. Look, I'll help you fix the gun. If you use it on me, you use it on me. Just hope you're ready to live with the guilt on your conscience when Dean goes to Hell." Her shoulders shrugged at them.

The Singers shared a look then reluctantly let Kristy help them fix the Colt. Ruby refused to leave her father alone with the demon. She still didn't trust what she was saying about Sam either.

In Elizabethville, Ohio, The Winchesters were stumped when the Holy Water wasn't working. No one seemed to be possessed in the currently sinful little town. They also ran into Dean's friend Richie who was a fellow hunter that was also working the same hunt. Wanting to see if Richie found anything useful, Dean went looking for him only to find that no one had seen him since his supposed hot date.

He could feel in the pit of his stomach that something was wrong with his friend. After tracking his GPS, Dean was proven right when he found Richie laying on the ground in a basement. He checked his pulse, but Richie was gone. Dean quietly got him out of there giving him a proper hunter's burial. While Sam went to talk to the town's priest, Dean returned to the bar. He flirted with Casey, the bartender that Richie had a date with the previous night.

Though he felt a bit guilty about it because of Ruby, it worked. Casey led him to her parents' house and walked with him down to the basement. She was shocked and confused when she realized Richie's body was gone.

"Yeah, he was a friend of mine. I tracked his GPS on his phone and found him here. I gave him a proper burial then lured you back here." He smirked.

Casey realized she was standing in a Devil's trap and groaned. "What do you want?"

"I want you gone." Dean started to recite the words to exorcise the demon from its host body.

The Devil's trap cracked and he got sent flying across the room. He tried to continue exorcising her, but the room shook catching him off guard. The only way out of there was blocked. They were trapped together.

"It's okay. I have someone on the outside. I'll be out of here in no time." Dean said confidently.

Casey smirked at him. "So do I. It'll be fun to see who gets here first."

After coming up empty on his end, Sam started looking around for Dean. It was after one of the bartenders told him that Dean had left with Casey that Sam started looking for her instead. He found her house though no one seemed to be there. Sam did find traces of sulfur though indicating a demonic presence. He did the only thing he could think of doing which was call Bobby. By then, the Colt was fixed and Kristy was long gone. Bobby, with Ruby who had insisted on going with in tow, quickly headed out to Ohio. In the meantime, Sam returned to the bar where he found Father Gil, one of the town's priests who he and Dean had spoken with earlier.

"How well do you know Casey?" He asked looking over at the other man.

"I've known her since she was in pigtails. She's close to her parents and attends service every Sunday. Why?" Father Gil asked him.

"I think she and my brother Dean might be in trouble. I can't seem to find either of them. There were signs of trouble at her house." Sam admitted with a sigh.

"That does sound alarming, indeed. I might know a few places to check. Why don't we do that first and if we still can't find them then we can alert the authorities?" He suggested placing his hand on the younger man's shoulder.

"Yeah that would be great. Thank you, uh, Father." He nodded his head in agreement then the two of them left the bar.

Sam oblivious as the priest's eyes flickered to pure black for a moment.

She sighed as she sat across from Dean. " Look, Trotter, the guy who owns the bar? I only encouraged him to introduce gambling, prostitution, and all of that other stuff to the town. The residents participating in it are doing so on their own accord."

"Right. So you break free from Hell and this is what you decide to do?" He looked at her in disbelief.

Casey shrugged her shoulders. "It's been chaos for the demons since we escaped and Azazel died. There is no one to lead us since Sam didn't take up his rightful spot. I would have followed him without hesitation. Even if he did, he's not the end all be all for us. We believe in higher power. I believe you know him as Lucifer."

"Of course you believe in the devil. So what's Hell like anyway?"

Her lips twisted into a slight smirk. "Oh that's right. You booked a one way ticket with that deal. You know, that deal you made to save Sam, a lot of people would mock you for it thinking it was weak and stupid. I don't. As for your question, well, you're not going to like it. After everything you've done, it's not like you'll get the Presidential Suite. It's a pit of despair. Why do you think we all want to be up here?"

"Right." He looked down appearing somber.

Casey's brows raised at him. "Still a year left. You're not scared?"

"Nah. It's kind of liberating. Why worry about the future when you don't have one?" Dean shrugged.

She eyed him skeptically. "Not even a little?"

"Of course not." He said after the briefest of hesitations.

"Dean!" Sam called out after getting out of Father Gil's car.

"Sam? Sammy, we're down here! The basement caved in." He called back looking around.

Casey looked at him. "Well I guess you won."

"Dean! Hey, hold on, okay? We're coming." Sam assured his brother.

"Who's we?" He asked confused.

"I'm here with Father Gil."

Casey gave Dean an indecipherable look.

"Sammy, be careful." Dean suddenly had a bad feeling.

Sam turned around just in time to see Father Gil's eyes turn pure black. A shot rang out and a bullet whizzed past Father Gil's head destroying a statue. He turned around only to find Bobby aiming the Colt at him. Annoyed, he used his powers to fling Bobby aside then threw Sam into the windscreen of the Impala. Father Gil turned back toward the house using his powers to rip the front door off before walking inside. Sam groaned rolling off of the hood of the car then moved over to Bobby only to find Ruby knelt down beside her dad.

"Hey Bobby, you alright?" Sam looked at him with concern.

The older Singer nodded his head. "Yeah I'm okay."

"How did you know where we... " He trailed off as Kristy suddenly appeared near them.

Bobby handed the Colt to Sam. "Go!"

"You heard the man. Go." Kristy nodded her head at Sam.

Inside, the rubble blocking their way out of the basement shook before being moved away with the swipe of a hand. Father Gil appeared and stepped closer to them only to be stopped by Casey. She gestured to the Devil's trap and he used his powers to break the trap fully. The two demons embraced in a passionate kiss. Dean watched on in disbelief and confusion.

"You two? Really?" His brows furrowed.

"We've been lovers for centuries. The two of us have gone through Hell and back together. Literally." Father Gil admitted with a slight chuckle before flinging Dean across the room.

Casey's face softened as she turned his attention toward him. "Just leave him be and let's get out of here."

Ignoring her, Father Gil picked Dean up by the throat.

She frowned placing her hand on his arm. "Don't kill him. Let's just go. Please."

A shot rang out and Father Gil let go of Dean. The elder Winchester brother rubbed his throat with his hand watching as the priest's body lit up with lightning. Father Gil then collapsed to the ground dead. Sam aimed the gun at Casey and Dean's eyes widened.

"Sam! Wait no!" He called out to no avail.

A second shot rang out and Casey endured the same fate. Their bodies laid dead and bleeding out over the devil's trap. Dean looked on in disbelief as Sam lowered the gun. The brothers didn't say anything as they walked out of the house. Kristy was long gone by the time they got out front. Ruby ran over to them throwing herself into Dean's arms. He hugged her tightly relieved that she was okay. When she pulled back, Ruby hugged Sam too. They went their separate ways after cleaning up the mess. Sam went back to the motel to pack their things while Dean went for a walk with Bobby and Ruby.

"So what do you think? Do you really think we made a difference?" Dean asked holding Ruby's hand as they walked.

Bobby nodded his head in agreement. "Two less demons to worry about. That's not nothing."

"Yeah, but Trotter's still alive." He shrugged.

Ruby sighed squeezing his hand lightly. "Humans aren't our job. Well, the Benders case being the exception."

"That's true. Do you really think anything will change though? I mean, maybe these humans really do want to destroy themselves. Maybe it's a losing battle." Dean admitted.

His brows raised at him. "This you or that demon girl talking?"

"Oh no, this is all me. Demon is dead and so is that hot chick that it was possessing." He assured him.

Ruby nudged him, but took no real offense. "Is it really that much different than Vegas?"

Bobby shook his head with a sigh. "She has a point. It had to be done. Sam was saving your life."

"Yeah, but you didn't see him. It was cold. You know, uh, back in Wyoming, there was something that Yellow Eyes said to me." Dean admitted.

The blonde softened toward him. "What did he say?"

"That maybe when Sam came back from, well, wherever, that he came back different." He shrugged.

Bobby scoffed lightly at that after pausing for a moment. "Demons lie. He was probably taunting you trying to get into your head. I'm sure Sam's okay."

"Yeah, yeah me too." Dean nodded his head in agreement.

Ruby squeezed his hand again. "It's Sam. He doesn't have an evil bone in his body. He's the human equivalent of a golden retriever."

"Yeah I know." He pressed a kiss to her head.

She smiled softly at him. "Why don't we all go back to South Dakota for a bit? We can get that windshield fixed."

"Ugh I hate demons. Now I have to fix Baby again. Yeah that sounds like a good idea, Ruby." Dean groaned in frustration then smiled softly back at her.
