It was a peaceful night in the great elemental nations. No fighting going on and no chaos happening. It was peaceful. There are bright stars illuminating the night sky adding beauty to the world. All was going smooth and well for all except for one person, Tsunade Senju. Despite how peaceful and calm the world was at this moment there she was tossing and turning in her bed sweating up a storm.
*Tsunade's dreams scape*
She was standing in front of the gates to Konoha, trying to figure out whats going on.
"Why am I dreaming about being back here again. This place holds to many bad memories." She asks herself. She starts to head towards the village gates but freezes when she sees someone. She instantly started to rush the gate to no prevail. She calls out to the figure "DAAAANNNN!"
The figure recognized as Dan smiles at her. He starts to wave. He speaks calmly, but his voice booms throughout the dream world. "Go back to Konoha please. Save the child. He is in need. I believe in you…."
"Please don't leave me again Dan please come back!" Tsunade yells out to him. She tries to get close and runs towards him with all her strength but never reaches him.
"I believe in you Tsunade." Dan repeats as he fades away.
"Dan please don't leave me. Don't go." She falls to her knees punching the ground.
Before she knew it she snaps her eyes open and sits up on the bed sweating heavily with tears in her eyes. She looks around and then covers her face, and starts sobbing thinking of the dream. Shizune that's in the room with her wakes up from the sound of her sensei crying and rushes to her side to find out whats wrong.
"What's the matter tsunade-sama?" Shizune asks worried for her friend.
Tsunade tells Shizune about the small dream she just had and how real it felt. Shizune wraps her arms around her sensei, and brings her in to a hug. "Everything will be ok." She says while rubbing Tsunade's back. She looked over at the clock and saw that it was 6:13 in the morning. Deciding that they should go ahead and start their day she tells her sensei that she will go fetch breakfast.
Throughout the day Tsunade had felt like she needed to go to Konoha. She had heard what Dan had told her, but is still adamant about not wanting to go back. However as the day progressed that feeling got stronger and stronger. By the time it hit noon she couldn't take it anymore. She grabbed Shizune and rushed back to their apartment to pack.
"What's going on Tsunade-sama? Why are you in such a rush all of a sudden?" Shizune asks while watching her sensei rush around the room packing up all their belongings and putting them into a storage scroll.
"We are going back to Konoha right now Shizune. We are going to rush there as fast as we can. We should make it there by nightfall if not a little later than that." Tsunade says.
"Is it because of your dream?" Shizune asks curiously.
"Yes. I can't help it. This feeling isn't going away. Maybe Dan really did come to see me and tell me something, and this is the only way to find out for sure. If we don't find what he meant when he talked to me, then we will leave again." Tsunade said as she finished packing all their items away.
"Very well, but Konoha is quite a distance. Are you sure we have to make it there tonight?"
"Yes I'm sure we have to. Not only do I have this feeling and thinking about what Dan told me but something else is screaming at me in the back of my head saying that we got to get there tonight at all costs."
"Well lets get going then we have no time to waste."
Little did she know, but Tsunade was about to change the course of history. For tonight is the night of the kyuubi attack.
As they approach Konoha they see pillars of smoke coming from the village. Noticing the smoke they decide to pick up their pace and rush as fast as they could to the hokage tower in hopes of someone being there. They quickly blow past the gates despite the guards trying to stop them and rush down the street. They quickly rush inside the hokage's tower.
Slamming the door open Tsunade looks to see her sensei turned around looking out the window towards the village, and looking over to the side of the room she sees her old teammate Jiraiya back against the wall with tears coming down his face. "What's going on here are we under attack?!" She basically shouts at the two.
Turning around Sarutobi Hiruzen was shocked to see Tsunade back in the village especially at this time. "Please calm down and be quiet Tsunade. No we are not under attack. There was a problem that involved the Kyuubi No Kitsune. Everything is fine now but please be quiet." He tells his student with a stern and quiet voice.
It was at this point both Tsunade and Shizune noticed that he was holding what appeared to be a baby in his arms. Understanding the current situation both of them nod. Jiraiya turns towards them and sighs "You two might want to sit down for this one." He motions for them to sit on the only couch in the room. They shake their heads "Can one of you tell me whats going on and what happened?" Tsunade starts looking back and forth between them.
Jiraiya lets out a sigh, "Alright Tsunade. First off this boy is Naruto Uzumaki Namikaze. The son of Minato and Kushina, and our godson." Tsunade's eyes widen at hearing this and motions for Jiraiya to continue. "Both of them died saving the village from the nine-tails. It got released during Kushina's childbirth and started to wreak havoc. Minato sealed the fox within Naruto using the shiki fuujin. All the destruction you see was caused by the fox."
Tsunade and Shizune both couldn't believe what they were hearing. Two of the most powerful shinobi and dear friends have died and left behind a son. Trying to wrap her mind around Tsunade looks over at Naruto in her sensei's arms and her eyes widen at what she sees. Standing behind Sarutobi is Dan, and hes just looking down at Naruto with one of the biggest smiles she has ever seen on him. He turns to look at her and mouths 'I believe in you and thank you.' It takes her a few minutes to snap out of and return to her normal senses.
"Would you like to hold him Tsunade? You are his godmother after all." Sarutobi asks.
She nods without realizing that she did and takes Naruto into her arms. She starts to rock him gently back and forth while Shizune takes a closer look at him. They both smile when he starts to scrunch up his face a little bit. Naruto starts to slowly open his eyes and the first thing he sees is Tsunade. Without making any kind of noise he just stares into her eyes. While Tsunade is staring into Naruto's eyes Dan pops back up in her head one more time and she remembers the message he gave her. Tears start to roll down her face and she smiles while looking down at him. Shizune can't help but smile and wondering what's going on in her sensei's head. During this time Jiraiya and Sarutobi were talking about what to do with Naruto and how they are going to take care of him.
"I'll adopt him and take him with me." Tsunade tells everyone in the room without breaking eye contact nor loosing her smile with Naruto.
Shizune smiles and laughs a little bit at hearing this, 'I honestly shouldn't be surprised hearing that' she thinks to herself. Jiraiya and Sarutobi hearing this both of their jaws hit the floor. They couldn't believe what they just heard.
"Tsunade that's a funny joke." Jiraiya stated.
"I'm not joking around Jiraiya. I mean it. This is a decision that I am positively sure of. Something is telling me to take him with me and watch over him to make sure nothing happens to him. I'll take him with me and Shizune. Say Shizune how do you feel about taking Naruto with us?"
"That's perfectly fine with me Tsunade-sama. I would love to have a little brother to dote on." Shizune proclaims with a big smile on her face.
"If this is something you are absolutely positive on I won't stop you. However there is nothing we can do right now. Come back in the morning and we can get all of the official paperwork out of the way so you can adopt him and we can talk some more as well. It has been a long night and we are all due for some rest." Sarutobi tells everyone.
Everyone nods in agreement and starts to leave. Tsunade tells him that she will take Naruto with her tonight as well to their motel room once they get one. Sarutobi nods and tells her that is alright and that he will see them in the morning.
*The next morning*
Tsunade and Shizune both arrive at the hokage tower early in the morning. They have done a lot of talking about what they are going to do with Naruto. Once they enter the Hokage's office they see Sarutobi and Jiraiya already there waiting for them. Tsunade hands Naruto to Shizune and takes a seat at the desk.
"So what all do you need me to fill out before we leave the village?"
Slightly shocked at what she said Sarutobi coughs into his hand. "There are just a few documents that you have to fill out. The biggest thing that you will have to decide is Naruto's name. Since you are adopting him you have the right to change his name. I also want to know why are you wanting to leave the village again, but with Naruto this time? This village is home for the both of you. I won't stop you nonetheless, I just want to know your reasons."
Taking the papers Tsunade starts to fill them out. She comes up to the part of Naruto's name and smiles. "I'll answer those in order. Naruto's name will be Naruto Senju. Me and Shizune talked about it last night. As for why we are leaving this village. The villagers are already aware of Naruto holding the fox sensei. I don't know how they know already but I can tell they all despise him."
Sarutobi takes a puff off of his pipe and sighs. "Yeah I don't know how it got out as well. I'm currently looking into that with Jiraiya's help. Are you sure you want to give him your family name? What about either one of his mother's or father's?"
"It would be safer for now if he has my family name. I will tell him of his parents when he gets older, and he can decide then if he wants to change it."
Jiraiya uses this opportunity to speak up. "Tsunade when do you plan on telling him about his parents?"
"Well it won't be for a while, but I will not keep it a secret from him forever. He does have the right to know when he wants to know. Now sensei, do you need me to stay to help you out with the council?"
"No Tsunade you don't have to worry about them. I will handle them and they will like my decision whether they want to or not."
Tsunade agrees and thanks her sensei. "Now is there anything that Minato and/or Kushina left for Naruto that I can take with us?" She starts to think about how the council will use this opportunity to claim there assets.
"Yes there is. Minato and Kushina both came up with an emergency back up plan just in case of this situation." He starts to walk over to Minato's portrait on the wall and moves it off of the wall to reveal a safe. "This safe holds the scrolls and letters from the both of them. It's locked by a blood seal."
Tsunade then looks at Shizune and nods. Shizune looks down at Naruto "I'm sorry Naruto-kun but i need to see your finger for a little bit i promise to heal you right up afterwords okay." Naruto simply smiles at her. She then grabs one finger and gives it a light prick to get enough blood for the seal. The seal glows and unlocks the safe. Naruto starts to tear up from the little prick he got on his finger until Shizune starts to heal it letting him know that hes alright. He then calms down and slowly drifts off to sleep. Sarutobi opens the safe and takes out all of the scrolls and takes them towards his desk. He notices that some are labeled and some are different colored without being labeled. He finds a scroll with Jiraiya's name on it and a scroll with Tsunade's name on it. He hands both of them there scroll. Jiraiya states that he will read it later on but not right now. Tsunade accepts her scroll and opens it.
Dear Tsunade,
We honestly cannot thank you enough for agreeing to take care of our son. We understand that you are currently going through a rough time with what has happened and wish you the best and hope you can find peace. Please take care of our son and protect him from all harm whether you stay in the village or leave with him, you have our blessing either way. You also have our blessing to name him a Senju if you want to after all the Uzumaki's are relatives of the Senju, but please let him know of his heritage when you believe he will be fine knowing.We have left 3 scrolls for you and Naruto. The yellow scroll is to Naruto from Minato and the red scroll is for Naruto from me. The scrolls from both me and Minato contains everything that we would have taught him and want him to learn. The blues scroll is all of our assets that belong to Naruto, please use them and don't let the council take them from him.Please Tsunade take care of our son and give him extra love for both me and Minato. Minato also left a scroll for Jiraiya stating nearly the same as I am to you. When the time comes for you to tell him about us please let him know we deeply love him and wish that things turned out differently. We never wanted this to happen, but we have to prepare for the worst. Love Kushina Uzumaki and Minato Namikaze.
After she finishes reading the scroll everyone sees tears coming down her face. She then asks for Naruto and Shizune hands him to her and Tsunade hands Shizune the scroll. She tells her that she can read it as well and she does. Tears start to fall down Shizune's face as well and she walks over to the sleeping bundle and gives him a kiss on his forehead. Tsunade does the same with tears still coming down whispering to Naruto that she will never let him go and will always be there for him. Watching all of this Jiraiya and Sarutobi both can't help but smile at the new little family. Jiraiya starts to think to himself 'It's about time you finally find some happiness hime. I will be there as much as I can to help you I give you my word.'
After collecting all of the scrolls Tsunade and Shizune start to leave the office but are stopped by Sarutobi. "Let us walk you out of the village." They both smile and nod and all 4 of them proceed to the village gates. Once they make it there Tsunade turns around.
"We will be in touch sensei. As for you Jiraiya we will send you a letter soon with where we will be staying at. You better come by to see Naruto as well."
"Don't worry hime. Of course I will come and see Naruto whenever I can I give you my word."
"Don't you worry about Minato's and Kushina's house here either Tsunade. I will see to it that it is kept safe and untouched for whenever Naruto wants to claim it."
Tsunade nods at this and both her and Shizune say their goodbyes and start on their little journey. Once they got a little distance away they both turn back to look at the village one final time and both gasp and go wide-eyed with what the see. They see Sarutobi and Jiraiya still there waving at them but they also see Minato and Kushina both behind them as well waving at them. Tsunade swears she could see Kushina mouth thank you to her. Seeing this they both start to tear up again.
"Tsunade-sama you see them to right?"
"Yeah I see them as well Shizune. Looks like they are truly watching over Naruto and us along with Dan and Nawaki."
"Where are we headed to?"
"My grandmother and grandfather built an emergency compound next to Tanzaku town just in case if they needed to leave the village or wanted a vacation. We will go there and that's where we will stay for now."
After about two days worth of traveling, they all arrive at the emergency Senju compound. Once they enter the nearly abandoned compound, they notice that it is in some serious need of cleaning and some minor repairs. Shizune jots down what they need and leave to go gather the items. Tsunade walks around the compound with Naruto in her hands.
"This will be your home now Naruto-kun. I hope I will be able to make you happy."
