MarvinEhre – The names Lua and Luca come from the English translation from episode 15.
InsaneMakaioshin – There is that, but it's a good thing she's not returning his advances.
Welcome to the next chapter of 5d's Deluxe. I'm looking to update every week, but I don't like making promises that can't be kept 90% of the time.
Chapter 3 – The Duel Monster Spirit World: Luca and Lua vs the Dark Signers
After the incident in the city, everyone returns to the mansion. Distraught and sad over Martha's death, Yusei does his best to cheer the children up, by stating that things can go back to normal by defeating the Dark Signers. After that, the Signer group exit the room to prepare.
Being the one most abrasive, Ushio asks what's on everyone's mind. "Yusei, how do you know that's true?"
He pauses, before saying, "… I don't."
"What?!"
"I want to believe it's true. That's why I said it," is his reply.
This angers Jack, but not as much as Ushio who grabs Yusei and lifts him by the collar. "You jackass! How can you say such a hopeless lie to those kids!? Have you no shame!"
"Let him go!" Lua shouts, grabbing onto Ushio's pant leg. "Don't you know Yusei is just as hurt as you are about Martha?! He needed to say it to himself more than anyone else!"
Hearing Lua's heart spill out, Ushio lets him go. He's still angry about that lie though.
Looking deep in thought, Aki speaks up. "Actually, I think Yusei's beliefs aren't false. There might be a chance to save them."
"Shut up!" Jack shouts in rage. "I don't need to hear anything from you! You're only saying things because you feel like you have some sort of duty!"
Turning to him, Aki says, "Even if that's true, it's my choice to believe and be there. Because more than what I hear, I believe what I see too."
Everyone turns to her at that. "Goodwin said we can't save the Dark Signers, but he didn't say we couldn't save their victims. There's also Rally, who disappeared along with everyone else in Satellite but came back just because Rudger wanted him to. From that, maybe there's a chance we can save them."
At that, the others take a minute to think about it. And in all honesty, Aki does have a point here. But… Jack has much to be desired. "And if not?"
Of course, Aki doesn't want to admit what if she was wrong. It's a hard enough decision to process. This is when Mikage steps in, saying, "I believe in Aki. So, we should believe in your tasks. You'll each have to face your assigned Dark Signers."
Saiga speaks up. "About that… what did they mean by 'star of destiny'?"
"They were probably referring to the controllers of Old Momentum," she replies, holding out her PDA. It uses an app showing a map of the BAD area where Momentum is centered. "Back when old Momentum was running, it had four separate controllers to keep it under wraps. Incidentally, they each held a codename connected to the Nazca lines: Ccapac Apu, Ccarayhua, Aslla Piscu, and Cusillu."
On the map, it shows the controllers and their names. Southwest has Ccapac Apu, southeast is Cusillu, northwest is Aslla Piscu and Ccarayhua northeast. Ccapac Apu is closest to their location, with Ccarayhua the furthest.
"In order, they translate from Quechuan as the Giant, the Lizard, the Hummingbird, and the Monkey." From that, the Signers realize that those controllers are their specific targets.
"Wait, that's only four," Luca says, remembering there are five Dark Signers. "What about the Spider?"
"That's the codename for Old Momentum itself, Uru," Mikage tells the little girl. "In order to stop Old Momentum, we need to shut down the controllers."
Taking this all in, Saiga asks, "How do they do that?"
"Each controller could be sealed using the Signer Dragon cards you possess: Stardust Dragon, Red Daemon's Dragon, Black Rose Dragon, and Ancient Fairy Dragon which the enemy has. Once you defeat the Dark Signers, use your cards to seal the controllers."
At that, Yusei curiously asks, "How do you know that?"
"From Director Goodwin himself. He said he was given them by your father personally before Zero Reverse."
That opens some eyes for them. "He told me that those cards after he had been given them, he had released them into the public until they ended up in the hands of their eventual masters. He believed that fate would guide them to the future Signers because those were the servants of the Crimson Dragon. Using the Public Security Maintenance Bureau, he kept his eyes on the owners, and took action when they ended up in your hands."
Annoyed, Jack checks his deck. It is annoying to think that he has been playing in his hands this entire time.
Mikage then shows the map before saying, "We should hurry along with the plan. The longer we wait, the sooner their plans will be realized."
"So, how should we do this? Do we all go one by one?"
"Waste of time!" Jack shouts, cutting off Ushio. "Each duel is gonna be one on one, so there's no reason for us to be clumped together like a cowardly clusterfuck."
"There goes the former king not giving a damn again," mutters Lua while looking at him with his arms crossed, ticking him off.
"No, Jack's right," Yusei says as he takes a minute to think. "Even if we're apart, we're all in this together. We'll each head our separate ways. I'll face Kiryu at the Giant."
"I have to duel Misty at the Lizard," Aki says, looking at the furthest point on the map.
"Then mine is Demak at the Monkey," is Luna's response.
"I'll face my opponent at the Hummingbird." Jack gets up to move as he speaks. They don't need to know who is waiting for him there though.
"I'll go with Luca," Lua offers, standing by her side.
"And I'll take them." Ushio stands with the kids.
Mikage approaches Aki, stating, "I can take you if you wish," to which she agrees.
Elsewhere…
Step. Step. Step.
"The die is cast. The stars shall align. Our lives are now in the hands of fate…"
Down a dark hallway, Rudger walks. His sight is lit by the dim candle he holds. His trek takes him to bars, from prison cells made in recent years. He stops by one, opening it up.
"Come." Inside is the depressed hate-filled man known as Bomber.
The two now walk to a new location. "Bomber, during the Fortune Cup, you planned on assassinating Rex Goodwin. Due to Goodwin's importance and the nature of your crime, you had been sentenced to life imprisonment."
Down below a rainbow light of energy glows, making the candle useless. Staring down, Bomber can only ask what this is about.
"I call it the doors to the underworld…" Rudger smiles wickedly. "Instead of imprisonment, I have decided to grant you a second chance. You can gain power as a Dark Signer."
"Dark Signer?"
"The flames of vengeance haven't left you, have they?" asks Rudger, his words stirring the D-Wheeler. "The anger and resentment you feel from your siblings perishing in flames, your hometown vanishing to nothing… all of it was done by Goodwin, and the Crimson Dragon!"
This gets the appropriate reaction. "That's right… Goodwin…"
"And then his pawn Yusei got in the way and you were promptly arrested, destroying your dreams." Rudger steps away as he talks. "Embrace that sorrow. Embody that hatred. Open your heart to darkness, as you die and become reborn!"
"… die?"
Then, all of a sudden, the floor below him opens up. Bomber cries out as he falls down into the so-called gates, unaware of the giant spider on the ceiling. It fires a web line around his neck, and then…
SNAP
"Listen well; if the flames of vengeance etched into your soul, a soul as it verges to death, have not yet died, hearken to my voice. This will grant you the one chance you need to murder Goodwin! For that purpose, become a Dark Signer and slaughter Yusei Fudo, the soldier of the Crimson Dragon who protects Goodwin!"
The light of Momentum shoots upward, bathing Bomber in its brilliance. As it does, the image of a killer whale appears in the skies briefly.
Later…
Outside, the Signers get ready and drive. Each takes off for their proper targets. Well, all except for Yusei. Since his location is not that far from their location, he can pass by the twins' dueling spot briefly. Luca is up against a Dark Signer, and he's most likely more experienced than her if her only duel is an indication.
As they drive off, Luca looks up at the controller on their way with worry. The area they're traveling through is also rather eerie, with rodents and birds watching them. Lua spots a raven cawing and jumps in fright at a hand touching his arm.
"Lua…" Luca says, being the one who made him jump.
"Luca… don't be scared, I'm here."
"Then don't scare me," she replies.
"I'm not scaring you! I'm brave!"
"Oh yeah, you're very brave."
"What's that? I can't hear you over the sarcasm."
Ushio watches from the rearview mirror at the children being children. 'They're already pretty brave for being here.'
Welcome, little Titania.
"Eh?" Luca suddenly pauses, hearing the voice. "Who's there?"
"What's wrong?" Lua asks, noticing her sudden change in tone.
"I heard something…"
This playing field is a little inappropriate for our duel. Let's bring you in.
"Bring me in?" All of a sudden, a bright light forms around Luca as her Signer mark forms.
"Luca?!" Lua shouts as his sister is illuminated. A bright light shoots up into the skies.
Not far from their location, Yusei notices the light. While that alone is surprising, what makes him really worry is that A, it is coming from where Lua and Luca are, and B, the light is entering the mark of Cusllu in the skies.
"Luca! Lua!" He immediately turns around for their location.
The car stops after jerking about on the uneven terrain. Ushio gets up to turn around, asking, "What was that light?!"
"She… I think she was taken to the Spirit World!" says Lua in shock.
"What?" The adult looks around the area cluelessly for what he means, immediately noticing Luca has gone missing. "Where's Luca!?"
"I just told you!" Lua shouts as he gets up from his seatbelt.
"She probably just fell out." With that, Ushio leaves his vehicle and prepares to look around for her.
'This is why children can't rely on adults.' Despite this, Lua gets up to look around for his sister.
'Luca… what happened?'
Elsewhere…
Luca rubs her eyes as she comes to. Looking around, she notices her surroundings. "Where… where am I?"
No longer in the gloomy dark world of Satellite, she's in a brighter landscape surrounded by trees on almost all sides. It doesn't make sense in a way. "Wasn't I in Satellite?"
"Kuri, kuri!" Looking behind her, the little girl gasps when she sees the source of the voice. It is Kuribon.
"Kuribon?" Normally, she can see duel monster spirits, but they always have a corporeal form. Now? Kuribon is fully fleshed out. Luca can even touch it, holding the sweet thing in her hands.
It chirps a bit before saying some things, things only she can understand. "Eh? I've been brought to the Spirit Realm after all?"
She releases her hold on the spirit before nodding. "I guess it makes sense… but how? I still have to face that person."
That's when she hears them, the clustering sound of feet storming her way. This worries Luca when Kuribon shakes about, begging her to run. "Run? From what?"
"I heard something over here!" someone over in that direction shouts, bringing more fear to the little girl's heart.
"Eh?" Luca stares at the hand around her wrist. It belongs to none other than her monster card Eria the Familiar Possessed Water Charmer. "Eria?"
"Let's go!" The water spellcaster leads Luca away as the footsteps get louder and faster. Hiding behind a tree, the three watches as they arrive, a group of monkey monsters each wielding some form of a staff.
"She's got to be here somewhere! Find that Signer now!" The leader of the pack shouts this, and the rest spread out.
Once they're gone, the three breathe out in relief. Luca speaks, "Thanks. You saved my life."
"Don't mention it."
"What's going on? How did I end up here?"
"Luca… what do you remember when you were younger?"
"… it's a few things… I was brought here while everyone thought I was in a coma. I met Ancient Fairy Dragon and many other Duel Spirits, and I promised to protect this world." Luca then looks away with some shame. "I was too young to understand the grasp of that promise, but I don't want to run away from it."
"Yes… and you forgot for a while, until your duel with that member of Yliaster," Eria says, causing Luca to remember her duel; it was a duel meant to dive into her subconsciousness and remind her of the promise. "We've been watching you ever since."
"We?"
"I and my sisters have been watching you through Kuribon," says the spirit charmer as he holds her scepter. "But, they're all gone now. Sealed away by Demak."
"Demak?!" Luca reacts to that.
"Yes, that bloke Demak." Eria looks around before pulling her off to a more secure place.
Eventually, they reach the river. As the rushing waters soothe the heart with white noise, the little girl gets a drink. Eria then begins her explanation. "Sometime after your last visit, the spirit world received a little visitor. We tried fighting back against him, but he was too strong. That minus energy he possessed negated everything we threw at him."
Eria shivers thinking about all of the horrors Demak put her and her friends through. Sighing, she turns to Luca. "You are the best chance we have to defeat Demak."
Patting the mark on her arm, Luca nods. "Is that why you drew me here?"
"That wasn't me. He did it." Eria holds her scepter by the water as images form. It shows Demak on some sort of throne, holding his hand out. "Demak wants to take you down, but I doubt he's going to do so in a duel. So long as he has Ancient Fairy Dragon, he and the other Dark Signers win."
'That's… that's true…' Luca realizes. According to Mikage, the controllers that allow Old Momentum to run can only be shut down by their cards. If each card only works on one controller, then as long as they have Ancient Fairy Dragon she can't seal it.
But, if that's true, then why doesn't Demak destroy the card? Why even bring her to the Spirit World in the first place? He can just hide here and never see her again.
Well, Luca will have to think about that later. "Where can we find Demak?"
"I can lead you to her. But first, we'll have to capture one of those monkeys."
With that new mission in mind, the girls get to work.
Back in the Real World…
While looking for Luca, Lua comes closer to the controller. It's quiet, dark, and creepy.
"No one's around…" says the kid as he sighs. "Of course not. Lua went to the Spirit Realm… it's the only real explanation… but where's the Dark Signer guy?"
That's when he hears it. In the back of his ears is the sound of a roar. It almost sounds like an engine. The revving gets closer and louder, until…
BOOM!
From above, a monster of a D-Wheel explodes off a ramp into the opening. This three-wheeled behemoth lands by the controller, before the person removes his helmet. Lua looks up at him and gasps.
"Wait, you're… Bomber!"
"The boy from before?" says Bomber in surprise.
Lua gets a better look at his face, more importantly, the markings and the black sclera in his eyes. "Bomber… you're a Dark Signer?!"
At that, Bomber lowers his shoulders with narrowing eyebrows. "That's right. I've come back from the dead to take revenge as a Dark Signer!"
The green child flinches at his burning hot declaration. He remembers what Bomber revealed during the Fortune Cup following his loss to Yusei, of what Goodwin did to his village. But this means he's also going to hunt down Yusei and the others, including Luca.
"Now, begone. My business is with Yusei!" Bomber tells him, pointing at the child with vengeful eyes.
It's gotten to him. Lua has a choice to make. If he does nothing, Bomber goes after his sister and the others. No, he can't do that. But he lost to Bomber before; he won't stand a chance. Then again, that's not something he can put aside or even care about. If Luca is willing to face these threats, he can do so as well.
"No… I can't." Lua steps forward, throwing his duel disk on. "You want my sister or Yusei, you have to go through me!"
Obviously, Bomber is offended. "Ridiculous. Why should I waste my time with someone who isn't a Signer? Much less the boy I defeated before?"
"Why should Yusei and the others waste their time dueling someone who was a reserve? Much less someone Yusei defeated before?" Lua snaps back. "Give me back my sister!"
"You seem to be misunderstanding some-" Bomber begins to disregard him until his eyes see something in him. It's some form of red mark.
"Well?!"
"You know what, I think I will duel you. I could use the practice for my rematch with Yusei." He dismounts his D-Wheel and turns on his Duel Disk. "I hope you're prepared for this."
"I promised to protect my sister, and I will!"
DUEL
Lua Titania: 4000
Bomber: 4000
As the duel begins, a flaming geoglyph forms. It takes the shape of a killer whale.
Back to the Other Action…
Over in a darkened town, there is a group of duel spirits being quickly zapped. The monkeys behind their deformation collect the cards they have become to take them away.
After that, all of the hooded monkeys leave. They continue to walk until reaching a dilapidated, white castle. As the ape duel monsters make their way past the moss-covered brickwork, they come into a clearing showing a sole man sitting on a throne.
Demak.
On his left is a duel monster in the form of an ape. This regal being of an aged appearance and mahogany hair is the Demon Ape King Zeman. On his right is one of the charmers, the white-haired Light charmer Lyna aged up. She wields the same scepter the others have instead of her usual staff.
Zeman speaks up: "Well? How did it go?"
"We lost track of her. The water charmer found and rescued her," says one of the hooded monkeys to answer him.
Zeman angrily slams his staff into the ground. "Damn it! We have to find that little girl and get rid of her!"
"Don't panic, Zeman," says Demak from underneath his hood, holding his hand to him. "There's nowhere in the world she can run that we can't reach. Plus, she knows she's on a time limit."
Concerned, Zeman says, "But Demak-sama, we need her as soon as possible to completely control the Spirit Realm. She's the key to controlling Ancient Fairy Dragon."
One of the hooded monkeys looks up, staring up at the mural behind Demak. It shows a serpentine dragon with fairy wings turned to stone and sealed within a trading card.
While examining his minions, Demak stares down at two oddities. One is too tall and the other too small. "You two! Who are you?"
The other monkeys step aside to expose the imposters. The taller one reveals herself, being Eria the Water Charmer. "Who are we? We're the ones that'll wring your ass out to dry!"
"That's too much." The other pulls over her hood, coming out as Luca.
Seeing her, a decrepit smile slowly spreads across Demak's face. "Seize her."
The monkeys train their Cursed Needles at the duo ready to seal them. "Luca, now!"
Luca pulls the middle needle of the staff she possesses to make it go in a positive direction. She then slams it into Eria's water scepter. This causes a release of positive energy to flood the area, with traces of water in the air turning into bubbles surrounding the monkeys as a result. They all float high up, some having dropped their Cursed Needles as a result.
The needle Luca used breaks from its use, but it's no longer needed. Demak is in her sight.
"Demak!"
Zeman gets ready to assault, but his master designs against it. "Little Titania, there you are." Demak gets up from his throne, attaching his duel disk.
"Lyna!" shouts Eria, facing the silent Light Charmer.
"Demak, was this what you had in mind when you said to meet you here?"
"All that matters is victory. Our gods have no interest in sleeping for another 5000 years, and thanks to that man, Rudger had to act sooner than he wanted." Demak smiles before he activates his duel disk.
"You got this, Luca," Eria says before stepping aside, allowing the girl to activate her duel disk. Zeman is enveloped in a mirage of blaze before entering Demak's deck.
Luca sighs before asking, "How do you know my name too?"
"Wouldn't you like to know?" He then raises his hand, causing the flaming geoglyph of the monkey to appear within and around the castle.
DUEL
Luca Titania: 4000
Demak: 4000
"I've been waiting for my chance at revenge for the longest. I may not be able to go for them, but I still have you." Demak draws his card before showing it to her. "I activate Closed Forest."
Upon activation, the castle around them disperses and is replaced with the outside forest. The mural of Ancient Fairy Dragon has moved away as Lyna stands by it.
"Next, I shall summon Ape Magician in defense mode." He brings forth a more powerful version of the monkey soldiers that are still trapped.
"I'll set two cards facedown and end my turn. Now, little girl, do your best."
Luca draws her card before looking at it. She's worked hard to improve her deck with Yusei's advice. It won't be enough to draw as she did against the professor, so using the charmers won't suffice. Hoping not to make a mistake, Luca plays her card.
"I summon Aussa, the Familiar-Possessed!" Her card comes forth, being the brown-haired charmer as sturdy as the earth.
Aussa: 1850
'He has a weak monster and two facedowns… they're most likely traps, but let's see what they do first.' "Battle! Aussa will attack Ape Magician!" Aussa raises her staff preparing to send a flurry of spikes at her target.
"Foolish girl. Shadow Spell!" Demak's trap opens up, revealing a series of chains that surround and entangle Aussa.
Aussa: 1150
"Shadow Spell huh?" She takes a card and sets it. "I'll end my turn."
Demak draws his card before smirking. "You expect me to fall into your trap the way you did mine? Go, Cyclone!" His recently drawn mystical space typhoon Quickplay Spell appears, wiping away Luca's trap card Mirror Force.
"Dang it!"
"Next, I summon Ape Fighter!" Appearing now is a mahogany ape monster with jeans and boots.
Ape Fighter: 1900/1200 (4)
"Tear her apart like you did before!" Ape Fighter moves in and punches Aussa, the earth charmer crying out in pain. That pain passes onto Luca, holding the part of her body Aussa was struck before she shattered.
Luca: 3250
"And now, finish the phase!" Ape Magician raises the cursed needle and fires directly at Luca. The poor girl shields herself, before Eria steps in to take the damage.
"Eria!?"
Luca: 2450
As the damage subsides, Eria drops to her knees. "I'm… I'm okay. This is nothing compared to what my friends went through…"
Back in the Real World…
Having noticed the geoglyph forming in front of him, Yusei looks around for the source. "Strange…"
He looks at his arm, which only lights up when he's inside the geoglyph, or another Signer is dueling. "Who's dueling right now then?"
Eventually, his mark glows. A delayed reaction, or is someone else dueling elsewhere?
Lua draws for his turn, looking at his hand. 'Bomber uses those effect damage monsters. There's only one way for me to win, by destroying that AIRRAID monster.' "I summon Deformer Staplen in attack mode!"
Appearing to the field is a red stapler, one that swaps forms to become a robot.
Staplen: 1400/1000 (4)
"I'll set one card and end my turn!"
Bomber draws his card before staring at the boy. 'Surely, he seems no different than when I faced him before.' He closes his eyes, as if asking some cosmic deity for forgiveness, before saying, "I summon Trap Reactor RR."
Appearing on the field is a green machine monster based on a WWII airplane.
RR: 800/1800 (4)
"Next, I discard Dive Bomb." He reveals his card, sending it to his graveyard. As its effect goes off, swapping attack with defense, a loud explosion goes off.
Yusei hears it and moves closer, going to higher ground where he spots Ushio coming his way. "Yusei!"
"Ushio! What happened?"
"I don't know! I was bringing the kids over when the girl disappeared," he tells him, frantically recalling the events prior. He's a little scared after all since he's almost close enough to being sacrificed. As well, the kids are in danger.
Getting further up the ascended height, the two look down at the duel happening. There, they see the Dark Signer and his opponent. "Lua!"
"Yusei…" Lua whispers in pain after taking damage from Trap Reactor shooting Staplen.
Lua: 3200
Yusei then gets a good look at his opponent, seeing Bomber's face. "Bomber… those markings… are you-"
"Yes, that's right. And when I'm done with him, you're next!"
Well, that settles this chapter. Next time, Lua and Luca show off new skills and cards in their duels. But, we then learn some things. For example, why? What has led to their falls?
