Chapter 22 – The Savior Queen of Souls
Twelve Years Ago…
Back in time, over in the Burren, a slightly younger Demak covered in a bloody robe wanders across the plains stored underneath cloudy weather. His left hand pulls a rope attached to a lock containing a green-haired woman's neck. With her arms chained behind her back and the white dress she wore, she struggles to move. Her arms move multiple times trying to break free.
"We're almost there, Luna. It won't be long now."
"Let me go, you bald turd!" Luna shouts, powerless against his strength.
"Being hurtful won't save you," he responds, his eyes dead set on a stone fixture up ahead. "There it is."
He continues to pull her until he reaches the Poulnabrone dolmen. He pulls her to the ground in front of the tomb. "This dolmen situated on the highest point of the Burren connects to the afterlife."
"We've been here before. It's just a tomb."
"It's not. It's a location chosen for ancient rituals." Demak ties her to a stone stuck into the earth. "Before, it was created 350 million years ago for rituals to contact spirits. We believe the remains they found in the 1980s were used as sacrifices to bring about said demons. And I can prove it."
"By killing the others and dragging me here?!" Demak laughs as he reveals a knife with ruins running along the blade. Seeing it, she gasps in fear.
"I shall prove to the world that spirits are real, one way or another. And sacrificing you through a duel shall be one of them." He pulls aside his robe, revealing a duel disk.
"I refuse! You don't win unless I duel you!" she shouts in defiance. She then pauses when she hears a car's movements.
"Who said you were going to duel me?" Demak looks over at the black car coming for them. It stops in the plains, and out steps Leonite.
"Leo!" Luna shouts, seeing her older twin coming for them. Tears threaten to fall; he really came for her.
"Luna!" Demak steps in front of her, becoming the barrier that keeps Leonite from his sister.
"Leo, I'm sorry! I know I should have listened, but-"
"It's okay… it's my duty to protect you, and I failed…" Leonite turns to Demak in anger. "Demak! How can you do this?!"
"This was all I wanted, Leonite, to prove to the world my genius. And Yliaster took that from me."
"You know why. The world can't handle a truth this big."
Demak grits his teeth as he pulls out the knife. "And you think Yliaster doesn't have some ulterior motives of their own to keep this secret? You don't think you're on the wrong side either?!" He points the blade at Luna. "I will prove to the world the truth and gain the claim I have always sought! And no one is getting in my way! Not you, not the others, and not her."
"No, don't!" He does. Demak stabs Luna in the sternum. From where the blade entered, light pours out instead of blood.
Seeing it, Demak grins maliciously. "Yes! It's just as the stone tablets said; this knife was used as part of the sacrificial ritual. Should a maiden who can see the spirits is stabbed with this knife, it shall bridge the two worlds together. Then, in the conclusion of the ritual, he who performed it shall bridge the worlds together."
The sky shines as what looks to be a circular dome forms overhead. Cracks form in the earth's surroundings, with Luna lying on the ground. Even though she's not in pain, she can feel the blade. If she pulls it out, she may bleed out.
Angry, Leonite watches as Demak pulls out a duel disk and tosses it to him. He says, "The ritual has to be done with modern weapons. In this case, a duel. So let's duel with your sister's fate at stake."
Leonite remains static for a moment, staring at the ground where the duel disk fell. "Now, pick it up." He does. Leonite picks up the duel disk, standing as tall as he can. "Good. Now, put it on so we can duel. I know you're not much of a duelist, but you're still necessary to-"
Next comes the variable Demak has not planned for; Leonite rushes in and slugs him in the face. The man doesn't punch him, but instead bashes him in the cheek using the board of the duel disk. A huge dent in his face is left as blood stains the dirt and he rolls over in pain.
"I may not be a duelist, but I know duels are supposed to be competitions between honorable players. And I don't respect anyone who kidnaps my sister!" Another blow to the face follows this speech. Now, the left eye is bleeding.
Leonite tosses the duel disk away, breaking it against a rock. He grabs Demak and shouts, "I am not going to duel you!"
Demak holds his face. "You don't have a choice!" His eyes catch sight of some manner of beast peering from the other side of the hole above them. "The blade is already inside of her. You pull it out, she dies!"
Listening to the conversation going on, Luna stares at them. It's a risk, especially with her arms cuffed behind her back, but she'll have to make a decision. Kicking her shoes off, she wiggles her arms underneath her to try and slick it above her. 'Come on. You can do this. You've traversed regions and drank vinegar. You can do this, Luna!'
In a swift motion, she pulls her arms up past her curled feet, finally able to touch her front with her hands. Now in this position, Luna gazes skyward at the malicious duel spirits peering down upon the earth, ready to enter. 'If I don't do something, those monsters will escape and cause problems.'
Luna touches the knife in her sternum, thinking about the only option she has. 'Well… I'm going to die anyway…' With all of her strength, she grabs the knife and pulls it. The light shines through as the pain rips through her nerves.
Her screams cause the others to stop fighting or losing in Demak's case, and face her. Both are horrified for different reasons. "NO!"
"Leo, it's okay." She pulls, causing the light to fade. As a result, the lights coming from the earth cease and the cracks are repaired on their own. The dome of the Spirit Realm closes, trapping the evil spirits threatening to break free. Even more, blood spills down her sternum and stains her white dress from the mountainous top down her legs. More gush from her mouth.
"LUNA!" Leonite drops Demak rushing to his sister's side. He takes off his coat and presses it against her hole, hoping the pressure is enough.
"Leo, I am sorry… it's fine this way…" Luna speaks, blood spitting out with her words to stain his face.
"No, I can save you! I'll call in a helicopter!"
"You can't. Yliaster won't help me." Her eyes spot Demak slowly getting up.
"This… this can't be… I was so close!" He runs off as fast as he can, still holding his bleeding face. Leonite doesn't bother giving him the time of day anymore.
Luna reaches up and takes his hand. "Leo, don't let this happen to anyone else. Yliaster? They let this happen. Just like they did Zero Reverse."
"What… what are you saying?"
"They invited us because they knew what we could do. We are just pawns to keep the status quo for them…" Her hands apply a weak amount of pressure. "But you don't have to protect that gear. Just leave, and it'll fall apart by itself. Lua and Luca will be safe…"
"Luna… don't speak. Save your energy."
"Goodbye. You were the best brother anyone could ask for…" And now, her hand releases. Her body goes limp, and she drops.
Leonite holds her tight, crying his eyes out as she dies. Unbeknownst to him, a light blue aura shines off of her briefly.
Back to the Present…
"Open – Premature Revival."
A large puddle of the earth rises before the high priest, an orange light shining from the depths. The earth takes the form of a giant hummingbird familiar to some. It blinks twice before shrieking, slapping its wings and unleashing a powerful gale that swallows the skies in darkness.
Aslla Piscu: 2500/2500 (10)
"Second, I shall activate my other trap; Subspace Matter Transporter." His other trap causes Aslla Piscu to slowly fade. "This shall remove my monster from the field until the end of the turn."
But, before it disappears, the bird devil shrieks before coming down upon Luca's field. "And, when Aslla Piscu is removed from the field, all of your monsters are destroyed and you take 800 points of damage for each."
Luca gasps when big bird jabs its beak into the earth, sending a wave of destruction that blows away her monsters mercilessly. The shockwave also sends her flying into the air with a scream. She hits the ground with a heavy thud.
Luca: 1600
"And with that goes your attack force."
"Not likely." Luca picks herself up, blood coming from the reopened wound on her face. "Jigabyte upon destruction will special summon a monster from my deck." She reveals her card, a blazing fox spirit fire for tails. "Inaribi!"
Inari Fire: 1500/200 (4)
"And through Unpossessed, I special summon Lyna the Familiar-Possessed!" Lyna forms on the field after D'harc's demise. "Battle Phase resume; Lyna, attack the Supay Priest!" She takes aim with her scepter, firing a blast of light that eradicates Supay. Unpossessed gives her a power boost.
Inari Fire snarls as it forms fireballs around itself. "Inaribi, attack Supay!" Her other monster fires upon the mask, incinerating it. "I will set one card and end my turn."
"Looks like you were expecting that. But, Aslla Piscu will return." His hummingbird deity reforms into reality as he draws.
"I will next activate Advance Draw!" Aslla Piscu fades away into the void. "By releasing Aslla Piscu, I can draw two cards!"
As he makes his draw, Luca stares at the giant bird about to make its assault. "I'll activate my trap card; Elemental Shield!" A barrier forms around Luca, causing the bird to bounce back off it. "This trap card allows me to send one monster from my deck with a different attribute as the monsters in my graveyard and negate any damage I take this turn."
Even though both Lyna and Inaribi disappear, by sending Wynn to the graveyard, Luca protects herself for the turn. "Unpossessed allows me to bring forth Hiita from my deck!"
The Familiar-Possessed Hiita appears in a splash. "Those witches have stopped me for the last time!"
The Linewalker Priest holds a card out, Tribute Burial. "I shall play Tribute Burial." From their graveyards appear both Supay and Inaribi. "By banishing these monsters, I can Advance Summon a monster by itself."
"Just like that?" He reveals his monster and summons it.
"I will Advance Summon the Earthbound Great Priest!" Appearing to the field now is someone who looks to be the Linewalker. But, as he removes his hood, his true appearance is revealed; he is a towering, muscular male with long, flowing hair of a purple tint. The Incan clothing shines in the darkness, as do his arms. The left is yellow and the right is purple.
Greater Linewalker: 2900/2900 (8)
Luca pales looking at it. It reminds her of a vicious version of Goodwin. As she stares, she also notices the darkness in the skies getting worse. 'Is he getting stronger? It must be that monster!'
The priest laughs along with his avatar. "You will fall, Signer of the Claw. I have the power of the Underworld at my hand!"
The greater priest holds a hand out, causing light and darkness to collect. "Destroy Hiita!"
As a blast of chaotic energy eradicates Hiita, who screams in pain, Luca shields herself, thankful that her monster was defending her. With her destroyed, Luca is in a pickle. Unpossessed won't activate in this instance.
"I will then set one card and activate the Great Priest's effect." The monster raises a hand to the sky, causing the geoglyph of the Whale to appear. "I can add Chacu Challhua to my hand. Turn end."
Luca looks at her hand, wondering how to come out of this. She'll have to bring forth someone stronger than him. So upon drawing, she spots a card that can help. "Since I possess six monsters with different Attributes in my graveyard, I can special summon this card. Come out, Elemental Grace Dryad!"
From above her, a shining light pierces the skies, pushing aside the darkness. A figure descends with holy grace. This beautiful goddess flags her angelic wings as her fluffy dress blows in the air.
Doriado: 0/0 (9)
"Dryad gains 500 attack and defense points for every different Attribute in our graveyards." The six attributes shine, empowering her.
"An attack of 3000?!"
"Dryad, attack the Great Priest!" The power of fire, water, earth, wind, light, and darkness forms in her palms as she shoots a beam of pure energy. The linewalker screams as it is obliterated.
Linewalker: 3900
"Damn you, little girl." He shields himself.
"I will then activate Elemental Shield's effect from the graveyard." Her trap ejects as Doriado holds it in her chest. "By banishing this card while I control a LIGHT monster, I can draw a card for every two different Attributes in my graveyard."
She draws her three cards, adding them to her hand. "I'll next set one card and end my turn."
The Linewalker draws his card, staring at it. He then smirks. "Yes… It's time!" He reveals his card. "I activate the effect of the Dark Tuner Supay the Broken Mask!"
The original Supay comes out of his graveyard. "By banishing Supay, I special summon this monster."
Appearing now is a bleaker, whiter, crimson crack version of the original Supay.
Supay the Broken Mask: 0/0 (10) DARK Tuner
"Upon doing so, Supay will also special summon an Earthbound monster from my graveyard." Returning to the field is the Greater Linewalker, who roars proudly now that he's been revived. "This will also lead into my trap card, Dark Tune Sacrifice."
Seeing his facedown flip over, Luca recognizes it as the card Rudger used for his Underworld comb. From his deck, Uru ejects. A Dark Sacrifice token appears next to Supay. "And now, I will perform a Dark Tuning!"
Supay shatters, turning into 10 stars. The monster then enters the body of the token, destroying its body and turning into a portal that opens up above the two duelists. From it descends his monster. "Come forth, Tunnel Undercrown!"
As the damned monster forms, the Linewalker smiles while pointing to Luca. "I have you now, Signer."
Tunnel Undercrown: 0/0 (0) Tuner
Luca looks at her monster. Knowing where this will lead, she is glad she summoned Doriado. She has an effect after all to negate any special summon performed by banishing three of her monsters in the graveyard. Whatever giant monster she plans to summon with Tunnel Undercrown, she can get rid of it. Using it on the monster would be foolish since Linewalker is still on the field.
"And now, Supay the Broken Mask's effect." The mask forms over the field. "If this card is used for a Dark Synchro Summon, and a Supay monster is in my graveyard, neither player can banish cards for the rest of the turn and until the end of your next turn."
"What?!"
"And now, I will perform a Dark Tuning using my two monsters!" The Greater Linewalker stretches his arms as his level is reduced to zero. Tunnel Undercrown's level increases a good eight stars before it shatters into the aforementioned lights and enters the Greater Linewalker. Once inside, the stars exit his body as he yells, evolving. As the stars exit his body, he explodes into dark matter and splashes over the duelist.
Luca looks up as his body expands in the darkness. She grips her arm as it feels like it's falling apart. 'This feeling…'
It's a feeling the other Signers are feeling at that moment.
The darkness clears to show the monster; it's a towering tree stretching to the top of the skies almost piercing the heavens. Several branches sprout from its center, each one containing a geoglyph corresponding to one of the many Nazca lines. At the center fused to the tree is the Linewalker himself, like a Sunavalon monster(which doesn't exist yet).
"Connect Heaven to Hell, Underworld Tree Sacha!"
Sacha: 3000/3000 (-8)
Petals flow from the branches, touching the earth and spreading some black rot. Doriado summons a barrier around herself and Luca.
"This monster cannot be attacked, it cannot attack, and you cannot attack me while it remains. By paying 700 life points, I can special summon one Earthbound God from my deck or graveyard, until the End Phase."
One of the branches releases a fruit. It cracks open like an egg, landing beside the Linewalker to release a bright pink light. The monster appears, the towering condor flapping its wings while staring down at the little girl.
Wiraqocha Rasca: 1/1 (10)
"As you know, by skipping my Battle Phase, I can reduce your life points to 1." He cackles as the bird illuminates.
"Oh no!"
"Behold, the power of the Earthbound Gods' trump card; Polestar Obey!" The bird releases a pink blast upon Luca, shattering through the barrier. She screams as the flames singe her flesh for a bit, before realizing she has some sort of protection around her.
Luca: 1
While the bright light is obscuring her clarity, she does see an image of an older woman. She almost looks a little like her father.
The translucent woman turns to face the little girl with a smile. "Luca."
Hearing the woman say her name in such a familiar voice shocks Luca as the attack subsides, and the woman disappears like a ghost.
"And with that, I end my turn."
Real Life…
Yusei and the others stare at their arms feeling the pain associated with the summoning of Sacha. "Luca…"
"I feel so helpless now…" Lua mutters while thinking about Luca fighting this opponent again.
Closing his eyes, Yusei feels his marks calling to him. "Luca is asking for help."
Aki goes to Yusei, saying, "Let's send her some."
"Ah." He raises his arms as do the others, and their marks disappear.
Back to Action…
Luca pauses as her opponent finishes, the evil condor god disappearing as a result.
She will have to focus on why she recognizes that voice later. Right now, she needs to deal with that tree. So, she draws for her turn. 'Certain cards don't directly work on Earthbound Gods, but they need a field magic to keep them active.'
"I activate Synchro Overtake!" She reveals her spell, as a monster flies out of her deck. "It allows me to special summon a Synchro material listed on a Synchro Monster in my Extra Deck. I choose Night End's Administrator's material Night End's Sorcerer."
Coming out is her monster, the lone bunny-eared sorcerer wielding a scythe. "And next, I summon Aussa the Earth Charmer!"
Her next monster is revealed as the younger version of the Earth Charmer. "I'll then send these two monsters to the graveyard to special summon a monster from my deck! Awakening of the Possessed – Nefarious Daemon!"
In place of Night End's and Aussa is the Nefarious Daemon of Nefariousness. But it's larger and more menacing.
Nefarious: 2000/200 (5)
"And now, its effect allows me to special summon Night End again!" Said monster returns in the zone adjacent to Doriado. "From here, I shall tune my two monsters together!" Night End slashes the air, forging two Synchro Rings, before disappearing. They pass by the Daemon, turning it into five stars.
"The holy light of protection, now cross and become eternal life! Synchro Summon!" With a flap of her wings, the Signer Dragon appears on the field with a shriek. "A regal birth, Ancient Fairy Dragon!"
AFD: 2100/3000 (7)
"There it is! The proof that you're a Signer. But, she won't save you." A card ejects from the Linewalker's deck. "Because you special summoned a Synchro Monster, I can add one Earthbound card to my hand."
"Bite your tongue," speaks the dragon.
Hearing her dragon talk, Luca flinches. 'Wait a second… no. I'll ask her later.' "Ancient Fairy Dragon's effect; I can destroy one Field Magic card and gain 1000 life points in exchange."
Ancient Fairy Dragon howls to activate her power, causing the field to disappear.
Luca: 1001
"Now you can no longer summon those Earthbound Gods."
"Maybe, but that won't matter anymore." He stretches his arms across. "As long as Sacha is on the field, it acts as a Field Magic Card for them."
"It does?!" Luca shouts in surprise. 'So, that card itself countered my plan. I need to do something.'
She pulls a card from her hand and sets it. "I'll set this card and end my turn." 'With this, I can do something about that monster. It may act like an Earthbound God, but it doesn't have the same protection.'
"Draw." The Linewalker examines his card, before grinning. He switches with one of the others in his hand. "I play Earthbound Whirlwind! This destroys every Magic and Trap card you control!"
"No!" Luca presses a button to activate one of her cards. "Mystik Wok!"
As her field is blown away, all that remains is her Synchro dragon. Her life points rise to 4001 due to the release of Doriado. "Now, there's nothing stopping me from striking you. Sacha's effect."
From the tree's effect, the color blue shines. A fruit lands and pops open, along with the smoke that comes from it. As a result, Ccapac Apu appears. "Ccapac Apu, direct attack on the Signer!"
The giant stretches its arm to the little girl, who runs away from the center. As it impacts the earth, Luca goes flying from the force. Ancient Fairy Dragon luckily grabs her, placing the girl down on her feet. "Thank you."
Luca: 1001
"I'll end my turn."
Luca looks at the two cards in her hand. Alone, they can't do anything. She needs to bet it all on this new draw. Closing her eyes, she breathes in and out. 'I can do this… right?'
After a quick scan through her brain over all the cards of her deck, there's honestly nothing she can do. None of her cards can give her an immediate turnaround. It's hopeless-
'No, it's not.' Luca opens her eyes, looking up at Ancient Fairy Dragon. 'Just believe. Believe in your friends, and they will help you.'
"What do you mean?"
"Hurry up, and make your turn!"
Ignoring him, Luca inhales once more before closing her eyes. 'Lua, Yusei, Aki, Jack, Crow… father!'
At that, the top card of her deck shines. She looks at it in shock. 'This is…' Reaching over, she grabs the card. Her Claw mark disappears from her arm, as do the other marks from the others. The full Dragon Mark forms on her back before she begins.
Her faith is about to be rewarded.
"It's my turn… DRAW!" Luca pulls, releasing a gust of wind. She adds the card to her hand before pulling out another from her hand. "I summon my Synchro Fusionist!"
Appearing in the field is a little devil of orange flesh.
Synchro Fusionist: 800/600 (2)
"Next, I activate Ancient Fairy Dragon's effect." Her dragon howls. "I can special summon a Level 4 or lower monster to the field from my hand, at the cost of my Battle Phase."
She then slaps a monster to the field, the very same card she drew for that turn. "I summon the Kyuuseiryu ~ Savior Dragon!"
Appearing over Luca's field is the towering form of the Savior Dragon.
Savior Dragon: 0/0 (1) Tuner
Seeing it, the Linewalker gasps. "That card-"
Ancient Fairy Dragon howls before flying up in the air, along with the Synchro Fusionist in her arms. They enter the transparent body of the Savior Dragon. "I'll tune my level 7 Ancient Fairy Dragon and my level 2 Synchro Fusionist with my level 1 Tuner Savior Dragon!"
As Savior Dragon expands, Ancient Fairy Dragon turns into stars along with Synchro Fusionist. Luca ascends to the skies and enters the light. "The sacred light of redemption shall shine upon the world; cleanse the earth with your lunar heart – Synchro Summon!"
The light blinds the Linewalker. It also affects the plains, erasing the rot his roots have caused. "No! Not again!"
Appearing in light is Ancient Fairy Dragon's Savior form; it is a slick, almost metallic form with four angelic wings. Its serpentine body is close in design to a limbless snake, with golden armor on its wings and just under the neck, and its tail has a crescent blade attached. Crystalline eyes shine like a rainbow. "Radiant garden of hope – Savior Fairy Dragon!"
SFD: 3600/3000 (10)
The dragon slowly descends, with Luca on top of her head. The Linewalker is disturbed; he's about to lose again.
"Savior Fairy Dragon's effect; I can negate the effects of one monster on the field, and you will receive damage equal to its attack points. Lunar Rain!" The dragon's wings release a bright light that illuminates Sacha. She then releases a beam that shoots into the sky. The light then falls like rain upon Sacha, destroying it like acid.
"With all of the times you've been paying life points, I was able to get my chance. That's 3000 points of damage you're taking now!"
Linewalker: 0000
The tree melts away, as the Linewalker drops down in pain. His body slowly reverts back to Demak. With his defeat, the land is slowly purified by the efforts of the savior dragon.
"To think, I would lose to the same thing… again…" The Linewalker snarls as his face begins to peel away as well, affecting Demak.
Savior Fairy Dragon allows Luca to land. "Demak, you have to let go of your hatred."
"No, I can't! I refuse! It is all that I have!" He glares at her.
"But, what about your research? Your friends? The reason you became an archaeologist?" She stretches her hands out. "Don't you remember?"
Demak smirks slightly. "Unfortunately… I don't. I told you. I have nothing left. Nothing."
His hand stretches out, and a dark beam fires at the little girl. She shields herself hoping to protect herself, until something else stops it. Luca opens her eyes and sees the person protecting her is the same woman from before.
"You?"
"Luna!" Demak shouts.
The woman smirks, before releasing a powerful wave of energy upon Demak. He screams as his body fades away, melting within the downpour of light. Within seconds, he is gone, nothing but a smoldering scorch mark left where he was.
With a brief sigh, Luna turns around to face Luca. "You're… you're my aunt?"
"So, you can finally see who I used to be." Luna places a hand on her shoulder. "It must be nice to talk to someone on your level."
"Level?" The older woman points up at the sky where Savior Fairy Dragon is, allowing Luca to see the truth. The dragon is gone after all. When it hits, she gasps saying, "You're Ancient Fairy Dragon?"
"Very clever." Luna chuckles. "You see when a Duel Spirit perishes, it has a chance to be reborn. By attaching to a human's soul upon their birth, they become that person's Ka. Ancient Fairy Dragon was attached to my soul, but only after manifesting in the human world after dying years ago. And until I die again and maybe attach to another soul, I will also be your aunt."
Luna hugs Luca, pausing out of affection. "Ever since my death, I came back as one of the Signer Dragons. That's why I can talk. And before Demak met Rudger and got a hold of my card, I have been watching over you."
Hearing this, Luca cries a little. "You've been protecting me this whole time…"
"I just wish I could have told you sooner." Soon, Luna releases her niece before looking into her eyes. "I'll send you home now. Without the Linewalker's power, the former Dark Signers will be free from their markings forever. At the same time, their memories will return."
Standing tall, Luna releases a light to send Luca back.
