Chapter 28 – The Resolute Samurai and Master
It's been two weeks since the events of Crashtown, which now goes by Satisfaction Town. The WRGP is less than a month away. As time passes by, some people have important things working out.
Bodies fly through glass. Blood stains the mahogany carpet of an office. But the most intense part is a man forced against a wall as a blade is held to his throat, and the one holding it is Sherry. "Why… why are you here?!"
"Answer this question." Dressed in her riding suit, she holds up a single magic card, one with the words Z-ONE written in katakana. "What is so important about this card?"
"That… I don't know." His hesitation causes Sherry to kick him through the glass onto the balcony.
"Imbecile. You were hunting me down to take this from me." Her feet press hard against the glass as she storms forward, scaring him closer and closer to the edge. "But if you won't talk…"
"Wait, wait! I'll answer! Just spare my life!" Sherry silently awaits his response. "I indeed received orders to obtain it, but they never told me what it was! I don't even know who told me! I just assume it was someone of importance!"
She withdraws her sword, sheathing it before turning away. "So you don't know… if you're smart, you'll clean up your act."
As the blond walks away, her duel disk activates. The man pulls out a gun from his pocket. "And if you're smart, you'll give up this march to your death-"
She plays a card, and from behind her appears the Beauty of Red Love – Bradamante. "Sorry, but I don't care about my life. Not after you took it from me!"
Bradamante slugs the man, shattering his cheekbone and the gun in one punch. He goes flying over the balcony and passes the rails, into a pool down below. With her finished protecting her master, Bradamante disappears, all while Mizoguchi enters the room.
"My lady, you shouldn't be so cruel. They're only following orders."
"I don't care. They still had a hand…" Sherry holds the card up as she speaks, staring at it. "Still, they knew nothing. Which means, we're going to have to analyze it ourselves."
"This card isn't an official Duel Monsters card. We can't analyze it without a specific type of machine."
"There's a supercomputer in this town that can scan anything. We need to access it."
Neo Domino City…
In the bright hours of the morning, Bruno is at a restaurant with his friend Yusei. In front of them are Mikage and Ushio. The former asks, "Has your memory returned to you yet?"
"No," he remarks with sadness.
"You still haven't found anything?" asks Yusei as he sips coffee.
"We inputted his fingerprints and photograph into the database, but nothing came up." Mikage shows a file on Bruno, and it shows 'No File' in red.
Seeing it, Bruno sighs in defeat. Ushio continues saying, "In any case, the investigation will continue. We just need him to stay with you for a little while longer."
"That's no problem." After brunch, the two leave the restaurant down an elevator.
Staring out into the beautiful city, Bruno remains sullen. He still has no clue as to who he is. "Whenever I see the city like this, I wonder… is someone out here waiting for me?"
"Someday, we'll know the truth," says Yusei out of comfort.
Elsewhere in the building, Security goes to work investigating crimes. Almost as soon as Ushio and Mikage return, the former receives a call.
"It's bad! Someone said there's a bomb planted in the Public Security Maintenance Bureau!" Ushio's attention is at full.
"Are you sure this isn't a prank?"
Suddenly, he can't get an answer. All forms of communication drop for a second before a new person takes the line. This new person speaks, "You have more than one bomb planted, and I assure you it's intentional."
Ushio stands in defiance. "And how do you expect me to believe that?!"
"Well, then I better confirm." On the side of the building, a section of the wall explodes. The bureau is rocked as a result, confirming to them that the bomb is real after all. All power fails as well.
Ushio immediately calls for evacuation as backup power surges through the building. A warning tells the entire building this, including Yusei and Bruno who are both still trapped inside of the elevator due to the lack of sufficient power.
As everyone is evacuated, they also go to work wondering about the bomber's demands and such. But, their thoughts change when something else transpires; the shutters close down, locking everyone out.
The three Emperors of Yliaster watch the chaos unfolding from their room, Luciano chuckling at the sight. He says, "This is some fun chaos! Shouldn't we do something, what with us being the Directors here?"
"Matters like these are for the Vice-Director," Placido tells him with an uncaring scowl. "Looks like the clown split town."
"Let it be," Jose says in his unflinching way. "We don't have time to get involved with this."
Back to Action…
Inside the bureau, Sherry and Mizoguchi discard their disguises protecting their faces as they descend the steps. Yusei finagles with the door to break open the elevator. As they do, they spot Sherry and Mizoguchi making their way further down.
"Wait…" Seeing them, Yusei starts to piece some ideas of what has been happening together in his mind. He leaps out of the elevator to chase them down, leading Bruno to follow.
His track leads him down a flight of stairs before he enters a room with computers. There he spots Sherry removing the locks on something using a keyboard.
"Sherry!" he calls out, catching their attention. "What are you doing here?"
"Oh? Yusei. Have you come to join my team, finally?" she coyly asks.
"There's no time for that! There's a bomb in the building!"
"No there's not," Yusei says, surprising Bruno. "That was just a ruse they made up. Isn't that right?"
"Still mad about that?" She chuckles, turning away.
"What are you up to here?"
"That is for me to know, and you to not find out." She walks off to get her business done.
Yusei rushes forth to stop her, but Mizoguchi blocks his path. As she enters the room, the shutters close behind her. Bruno slips by Mizoguchi, but the loyal butler throws a pipe intending to trip him. It works, but Bruno still slides underneath the shutters.
"Bruno, stop Sherry!"
Mizoguchi glances to the door, sighing. "That was my mistake, but if it's just him, she can disable him."
"Disable?"
"My lady is strong, strong enough to handle herself in a duel, in a fight, and even against Psychics." He approaches the glass near the door before punching it, pulling free two wires. He inserts them into his duel disk, causing an LP meter to appear on the screen. "But, if I let you go, you might stop her."
"I guess I have to win a duel to get past." Yusei activates his duel disk before stepping back. "I don't know why Sherry would fake a bomb threat, but I won't let her add to her crimes."
"DUEL!"
Yusei: 4000
Mizoguchi: 4000
"I shall begin." Mizoguchi draws his card, looking at it briefly before he activates it. "I activate Six Warmen United." A veil shines below his field upon activation. "Next, I activate Shien's Smoke Signal. I can add one level 3 or lower Six Warmen to my hand."
He reveals his monster before summoning it. It ends up being a samurai embodied in brown armor containing yellow lines shining off it. "I summon Kagemusha of the Six Warmen."
Kagemusha of the Six Samurai: 400/1800 (2) Tuner
"While I control a Six Warmen monster, I can special summon this monster from my hand, Elder of the Six Warmen." Coming now is an old man inside of a Japanese carriage. The four men stop to lay the carriage down.
Elder: 400/0 (3)
"Next, I will perform a Tuning!" His two monsters leap into the air, the Kagemusha turning into two Synchro Rings that pass through the Elder. "When the time of war begins, the legendary general shall protect his ward. Synchro Summon!"
Appearing now in front of Mizoguchi is his ace, a samurai adorning red and gold armor. Twin wings are placed behind him as the symbol of the Six forms on his red kabuto. Revealing his sheathed sword, he draws it as he raises the blade in the air. "The True Six Warmen – Shi En!"
Shien: 2500/1400 (5)
"Due to the effect of my Continuous Magic Card, I can send it to the graveyard to draw two cards." He draws his two before immediately setting them. "I'll set two cards facedown and end my turn."
Yusei draws for his turn. "I will activate Junk Converter's effect." He reveals the card he drew before sliding it and another monster into his graveyard. "By discarding this card and another Tuner, I can add one Synchron monster to my hand."
He searches for the card he needs, and it is Quick Synchron. "I will discard Bolt Hedgehog to special summon Quick Synchron!"
His monster appears on the field. Next to him, Bolt Hedgehog emerges from the graveyard due to its effect. "Quick Synchron will take on a name."
Yusei's monster fires at a roulette, becoming Junk Synchron. "I'll tune Bolt Hedgehog and Quick Synchron!" His monster turns into five stars that pass through Bolt Hedgehog.
"Gathering anger becomes an entranced warrior born from a brutal god. Become the path its light shines upon! Synchro Summon!" Ripping a massive ax through the air, a beastly monster appears adorned in crimson-gold plated armor. "Howl, Junk Berserker!
Junk Berserker: 2700/1800 (7)
"Junk Berserker, attack Shien! Scrap Ax!" Wielding the giant weapon with both hands, Berserker lunges forward to cleave Shien in two.
"Trap card open; Waboku." The samurai swings its blade, blocking the attack effortlessly.
Scuffing, Yusei sets two cards and ends his turn. Mizoguchi draws, before activating it. "I play Gateway of the Six."
From behind him, a gate shouldering the symbol of the Six appears. "Next, I will summon Nisashi!" Appearing to the field is a green samurai, dual-wielding twin glowing katanas.
Nisashi: 1400/700 (4)
"Because I summoned a Six Warmen, Gateway gains two counters. And, I can remove said counters to grant Shien 500 attack points." His ace samurai roars as he is empowered.
Shien: 3000
"Battle! Shien will destroy Junk Berserker!" The samurai charges in to strike down Berserker.
"Trap card open, Scrap Metal Scarecrow!" Yusei's signature trap rises to protect his monster.
"Shien's effect." The true samurai slices through the scarecrow. "It negates any Magic or Trap card and destroys it." Shien then cuts down Berserker, leaving nothing left of it.
Yusei: 3700
"Next, Nisashi will attack directly!" His monster slashes Yusei, reducing his life to 2300. "And, while I control another Six Warmen, Nisashi can attack again!" The second blade hits him, bringing him even lower.
Yusei: 900
"I will set one card and end my turn."
Cameras show the situation outside to Yusei and Mizoguchi. Security has cut open the barrier and is moving in. "Looks like we're out of time." He then contacts Sherry and informs her of the situation.
Yusei looks back as he recalls Security making their way inside. "Are you sure about this? Even if you get what you want, Security will catch you."
"Please try to understand my lady's feelings."
"If you truly care about her, you'd try to stop her." Yusei tightens his gloves. "I've seen what revenge does to people, and I don't want her falling into that pit of despair."
"You wouldn't understand."
"Then I won't ask again."
Elsewhere…
With the duel progressing, Sherry reaches the analyzer. She raises the card and prepares to scan it.
"Wait, stop!" Until Bruno comes in at the last second. "I don't know what you're doing, but-"
In anger, she draws her sword and slashes the still-sheathed weapon at him. Her eyes stern and determined, she swipes more at him, until he's on the floor. "W-W-W-W-W-W-Wait! I'm against violence!"
"Then you shouldn't have come." She pockets the card into her chest before grabbing him by the collar. "Stay out of my way. If I can analyze this card, I can get one step closer to avenging my parents and uncovering Yliaster's true motives." She raises her sword and swings down, intending to knock him out with it.
At that very instance, Bruno kicks her off. He flips off the ground and stands tall, glaring at her with an intensity he's never displayed before. Sherry roundhouse kicks him, but he catches her tone leg and tosses her effortlessly to the wall. She recovers and slides on her feet, despite wearing heels.
Bruno dashes forth and grips her throat, holding her tightly. She grabs his arm hoping to pull free, but his strength is strangely supernatural at this moment. His hands are too strong; she's losing oxygen fast.
Instead of punching her, Bruno takes the card in Sherry's breasts and examines it. "G-Give that back… it holds the truth I've been looking for…"
He releases her and moves to the machine, placing the card into the duel terminal scanner. Fingers go to work pressing buttons and activating it. After recovering her breath, Sherry asks, "What are you doing?"
"This machine is too much for you to operate."
Seeing all that is transpiring, the blond is grateful. A little confused, but grateful for his assistance. "Why are you helping me after what I tried to do to you?"
"I want to know the truth of myself too."
Back to Action…
"It's my turn!" Yusei draws, staring at it; this is just the monster he needs. "I summon Junk Synchron." He brings out his Tuner, who uses his effect to bring forth Junk Converter. "Due to the effect of Satellite Synchron, I can special summon it should I special summon a monster from my graveyard."
Appearing now is a small Synchron taking the form of a satellite.
Satellite: 700/100 (2) Tuner
"Now, I'll tune my monsters together!" Junk Synchron pulls his cord and transmutes it into three rings. "Clustering wishes shall become a new force; become the path the light shines upon! Synchro Summon!" Junk Warrior comes out to the field, thrusting his fist outward. "Junk Converter will also resummon Junk Synchron."
Due to its effect, Junk Synchron returns to the field next to Warrior. The tuner then does its thing again, performing a Synchro Summon. "Clustering wishes shall become a new shining star. Become the path the light shines upon – Synchro Summon!"
In glittering, cosmic light, Stardust Dragon appears. "Take Flight, Stardust Dragon!"
"Stardust Dragon…" Mizoguchi narrows his eyes. "Not even that will save you."
"That's what Stardust does, it protects and saves."
"And that's what you want to do? Save my lady?"
"That's what I intend to do. I activate Shooting Sonic!" A quickplay Spell slaps onto the field, empowering Stardust Dragon. "This magic card allows Stardust to shuffle any monster it battles into the deck before the Damage Step."
"No, you won't. Shien's effect!" Shien draws his katana and slashes, releasing an energy blade that destroys the magic card. "Now, Stardust won't be affecting anything. And by my next turn, I will destroy it and Satellite Synchron. You will lose this duel."
Yusei smirks. "Not bad. But, I'm not finished. I will be Tuning Satellite Synchron with Stardust Dragon!" In an act that surprises even Mizoguchi, Satellite Synchron releases a beacon that conjures two rings that pass by the Stardust Dragon.
"Clustering wishes will call upon the far reaches of space; become the path the light shines upon! Synchro Summon!" From the light of Synchro appears Yusei's biggest monster, a colossal white and gold satellite humanoid with four solar panels acting as wings. "Vector to the heavens, Satellite Warrior!"
Satellite Warrior: 2500/2000 (10)
"Satellite Warrior's effect; I can destroy any number of cards you control up to the number of Synchro Monsters in my graveyard. Satellite Purge!" Satellite Warrior releases light from its panels, aiming it upon Mizoguchi's field.
"Nice try, but I was prepared for something like that. Counter Trap, Musakani no Magatama!" Shien holds up a magatama, using it to protect his field. A barrier forms, blocking Satellite Warrior's scanning. It then reflects energy at him, destroying the monster.
Satellite Warrior roars in pain as it is destroyed. "Yusei, this is as far as you go. No one can stop my lady's path."
Yusei points at the smoke, revealing the remains of the Satellite Warrior unveiling a beacon. "When Satellite Warrior is destroyed, I can special summon up to three monsters in my graveyard. And I choose these three."
He pulls three cards from his graveyard. "Come back: Junk Warrior, Junk Berserker, Stardust Dragon!" His three Synchro monsters make their immaculate return, much to Mizoguchi's surprise.
"You've revived all of your monsters?!"
"Junk Berserker's effect." The spirit of Junk Synchron rises, before gripping onto Shien. "By banishing a Junk monster from my grave, I reduce your monster's attack by its."
Shien: 1200
"Battle! Junk Warrior, attack Shien!" His monster flies in, jet-propelled to strike the weakened samurai.
"Trap card, Senkou no Barrier – Shining Force!" Radiant Mirror Force opens up, reflecting upon Mizoguchi's field to block Junk Warrior. "This trap card allows me to destroy all Attack Position monsters you control if you have three or more!"
"Stardust Dragon's effect!" His ace monster releases itself, turning into glittering stardust that splashes over the barrier and destroys it. But just as quickly as it disappears, it returns to form.
"What?! Stardust Dragon should be gone!"
"By banishing Shooting Sonic from the graveyard, Stardust Dragon doesn't need to release itself. Finish him, Scrap Fist!"
Junk Warrior continues for Shien, who pulls Nisashi forth to block the blow. "By releasing another Six Samurai, Shien is not destroyed!"
Mizoguchi: 2900
"Junk Berserker, attack! Scrap Ax!" The crimson godman cleaves Shien in two, nothing able to protect him anymore.
Mizoguchi: 1300
"Stardust Dragon, direct attack! Reverberate – Shooting Sonic!" His dragon unleashes its cosmic flare, blowing away the rest of Mizoguchi's life points.
Mizoguchi: 0000
Upon defeat, the shutters finally open up. "You may pass… but-"
"I'm not going to hand you over to Security." Yusei passes by Mizoguchi. "We're the only ones who can stop her after all."
Inside…
Back with Sherry and Bruno, the two continue analyzing the card. It shows them what it has discovered, but there's absolutely nothing wrong with it. "What?! That can't be!"
At that moment, the card glows. Some form of energy releases from the card, causing a dark portal to form overhead throughout the city. Yusei and Mizoguchi meet up with them, but upon reaching them the former's Signer Marks glow.
'This is…'
A bright light consumes the three, taking in Yusei, Bruno, and Sherry. The trio awakens in a bright, white room composed of panels.
Sherry looks around, wondering where they are. "Are we inside the computer?"
"How?" asks Bruno as he looks ahead.
Feeling a presence, Yusei turns around. There, he sees some form of object on the ceiling. It is round, primarily white and gold with red, and has a familiar crescent that Yusei feels he's seen somewhere. "What's that?"
The object finishes turning around, and from a small opening they see it; a blue eye.
"Ÿ̴͈͖̣̪̔͊͑́͐̓͑̕ų̸̨͖͕̲̱̪̺̥̭̈́̋̉̓̚ͅs̶̨͕̼̣̲̗͖̩̙͉͈̖̏̆̀̏̿̊͋̑͗̿̒̽͑͗͝ͅe̸̤̼̝̬̻̩͓͓͚͇̥͆͆į̴͇͙͚̪̥̬̹͎͈̟̊̽͗̌̎̃̊̈́̀́̇͑͠."
…
It is nighttime in Neo Domino City. Yusei and Bruno open their eyes. They realize they're on the outskirts of town by the river, far from the Public Maintenance Security Bureau. On their right is Mizoguchi, holding Sherry who is slowly coming to.
"Mizoguchi? Did you save us?" asks Yusei.
"No. When I came to, we were already here," he tells them, turning to face them. "Yusei Fudo, I've become indebted to you. I can see why my lady is infatuated with a complicated man such as yourself."
"She's what?"
"We'll meet again." He leaves, taking Sherry with him.
Meanwhile, Bruno faces Yusei. "We're pretty far away from our rides."
"A little jog never hurt a growing body," he says, turning to the skies. "What was that we saw in there?"
"I don't know… but it let us escape for some reason…" Bruno doesn't want to say more than that. Strangely, that thing looks a little familiar. But why?
"Yliaster…" Yusei realizes. If Sherry wanted to analyze that card, it must be connected to them. Now he wants to help even more.
Elsewhere…
Having felt the power released from the maintenance bureau, the three emperors are flabbergasted. Even the ever-flippant Luciano has something to say.
"Whoa, whoa, whoa, what was that? That wasn't funny! That wasn't funny at all!"
"Maybe we should have gotten involved after all," says Placido with a scowl. "I'm pretty sure Yusei was involved."
"Your obsession with besting Yusei Fudo will be your downfall…" Jose rewinds the footage.
"It looks like someone else is causing trouble," speaks a fourth voice, catching them by surprise.
"Who's there?!" Luciano asks as a portal shows a new person. This figure wearing a mask with one half white and the other half black stares through the other side.
"This is restricted. State your name and we'll cut you down."
"Don't you mean, 'OR' Placido?"
"You don't know what he's about," says Luciano.
"Back down. It's her," says Jose with calm. "This is Paradox."
This surprises the two of them. Luciano asks, "That's her? The one person who supersedes us?"
"Correction, young one." She turns to face the redhead. "We're on the same level of authority. Only that man supersedes us."
Wanting to get straight to the point, Jose asks, "What brings you here, Paradox? You haven't taken action since 18 years ago when this should have been fixed."
She stares through her faceless mask. "Calculations have finished, and the machine is ready. We're going to try with my original plan. But, I will need some manpower."
"Manpower?"
"Dragons that can empower my assault and ensure this will never transpire. If I don't make it, then proceed as planned." Her screen goes out, and the woman resumes as she goes to work.
Lightz: We hope you enjoyed that little chapter. It's not that different from canon, but the inclusion of Six Samurai felt cooler than simply relying on one card. But, we have something more important on the horizon; the next chapter is Bonds Beyond Time, the DM-GX-5D's movie. You get to see Paradox in action attempting to destroy time and space for a future only she knows about. You may also get to see who she is under the mask, and why she's a woman here.
