It felt weird, running down halls with a Sandwing who looked like they were about to kill you. But it was weirder, knowing that she literally knew how to and could. That was Snake. Night inspected her as they ran. Snake always seemed ready to fight, no matter what the circumstances. Night used to be scared at that, but it felt reassuring that Snake could technically protect Night. This train of thought almost made Night laugh.
Snake seemed so calm. The attack of the Menace didn't seem to affect her, which surprised Night.
She probably would be used to those sorts of attacks and fights. Night thought. She almost tripped because of the fact that she was too busy thinking to run properly. Snake glanced at her with an amused look.
Night winced. They bolted into the cave and sat just before Tsunami started speaking.
"Hello Jade and Gold Winglet, I am Tsunami. This is a self-defence class," Tsunami explained. Night saw Qibli glance at her in surprise.
What? Did he not think I could make other friends?" Night thought grumpily. She realised what Qibli and Kinkajou were wearing.
Skyfire. Night noticed, feeling stung. She knew she ran off, but still? Qibli moved closer towards her and Night leaned closer to Snake.
"I think you could defeat anyone in this cave," Night whispered loyally. Snake smiled at her and turned towards her.
"Um, Snake, I- I can read minds," Night whispered anxiously. Snake stared at her.
What? You can? What am I thinking? Hmmm, Tsunami may be strong, but I bet her gills are her weak spot. They are already burnt. Snake thought, nudging Night and looking curious.
"You are thinking, what? You can? What am I thinking? Hmmm,Tsunami may be strong, but I bet her gills are her weak spot. They are already burnt," Night whispered, grinning weakly at Snake.
Snake blinked and cleared her throat, glaring at the dragonets who glanced at her.
Wow. No what I expected. Hey! That means when we will start practising fighting, I may be a great fighter, but you could read my mind and figure out my techniques. Moons, that would be useful. Snake thought with awe.
Useful? That is what she thinks I am? Surely not… right? Night worried, lifting up her head to listen to Tsunami. After class, Night ran up to the library.
"Hi Starflight! It's me, Night," Night called. Starflight lifted up his head with a smile.
"Hello Night. If you need anything, just ask," He replied warmly. Night liked Starflight. He was smart and anxious, like her, but was kind and didn't care about Night's background or colours, and didn't think of her as another Moon.
"Thanks," Night said. She picked up a scroll on Nightwing powers and sat by one of the windows. Night started reading.
Oh! This is written by Moon! Better let Qibli know… or maybe not. Night thought ruefully. She read the entire text.
So I was born under a full moon. Mother did tell me she lied about me and said she was going on an expedition to try to find other places to live. That's where I was born. Near the old Night Kingdom. That's where I got my powers from. Night thought, rolling up the scroll and placing it back in its spot.
"Ha!" A voice laughed. Night turned to see Uproar and Smoke walking in. Night ducked behind one of the shelfs.
Smoke. He is grumpy, but not that dangerous. Uproar seems to hate me. Or maybe he's jealous. I don't know. His thoughts are confusing. Does he hate me or not? Night wondered, trying to breathe as quietly as she could as they walked past.
Night then tiptoed out the library and ran to the underground lake. Seal, Squelch…Blizzard, and Snake were swimming in the water.
"Hello!" Seal called, turning to look in Night's direction. She smiled shyly at him.
"Hi Night!" Snake welcomed warmly, picking Night up and throwing her in, causing them both to laugh. Snake dove in next to her.
"Hi," Night replied, floating on her back. She could see Blizzard and Squelch diving in and Seal splashing them as they did.
"They are actually really cool," Snake grinned. Night shook her head.
"Not Blizzard," She said, frowning. Snake nudged her.
"YES! She is really cool. You just have to hang out with her," Snake cried cheerfully.
What if I don't want to? Night thought grumpily, turning away. Snake swimmed back.
"Okay, you seemed unhappy. Come to us when you are happy," Snake said before diving under and jump-scaring Seal. Night winced.
She doesn't care about what I feel? Night thought ruefully and turned away, walking towards her cave. It was empty.
Where's Kinkajou? I need to talk to her… and apologise for leaving them behind, then moving on. Night thought, frowning with worry. Does she hate Night now? She walked down the hallways, peaking into Qibli and Turtle's cave. It was also empty. She did the same for Peril's. Peril was burning something and jumped in surprise when Night came in.
"Oh! Hello!" Peril said, blinking at her, "Could you please not scare me when I'm trying to make lunch?" Peril tilted her head at Night in confusion.
"I'm Night, and there is a whole prey centre for that," Night said, pointing at Peril's food. Peril gave her an amused look.
"I know, but there are too many things I can set on fire there. I only go there when I have to. Plus, there are grumpy Icewings there," Peril sighed. Night laughed.
"How are you going here?" Night smiled. Peril glanced at her in surprise.
"Well… it's fun and all. And dragons aren't AS scared of me as they USED to be," Peril admitted and eyed Night, "Why are you asking?" Night shuffled her talons.
"Um, because I, uh, want to?" Night said, confused. Peril snorted and filled the room with smoke, making Night cough, making Peril snort again… and making Night cough.
This cycle went on for the next five minutes before Night stepped out of the room and called, "Bye Peril!" and walked off.
Well, that was… weird and…interesting. Night thought, feeling puzzled.
Oh, right. I need to find Kinkajou and Qibli. Night thought, and gulped, walking down to the prey centre. Dragonets were running everywhere, their thoughts flying at everyone, hurting Night. She clutched her head in despair.
Where are they? Night wondered, trying to fit everyone's thoughts buried in the ground. She squinted, but couldn't spot them in the chaos. Night bolted out the room and ran into Qibli.
"Oh! Sorry! I am looking for- Qibli?" Night yelped, jumping back. Qibli blinked at her in surprise. She shuffled her talons awkwardly, looking at the ground.
"I'm sorry I left you guys. I know you won't forgive me, but I just wanted you to know," Night said softly, a tear dropping from her eye to the stone, hard ground.
She went to walk away when Qibli grabbed her talon. Night tried to pull away, but he hung on gently. She was startled into meeting his eyes. They weren't angry, but…kind.
"Hey, it's okay. I'm sorry about what we have thought about you or acted. I forgive you," Qibli said kindly, brushing one of Night's shaking wings with his. She felt the warmth of it spread through her scales and bones. Night let out a breath she didn't know she was holding.
"Thanks Qibli. I wasn't for a moment angry at you," Night promised, patting his talons with hers. He smiled at her. Night smiled shyly back. They kept smiling and feeling silly for a minute before Night turned to look over his shoulder, resting her snout on it.
"Where is Kinkajou?" she asked, squinting to see better down the hallways. Night felt Qibli rest his wings on top of hers.
"She was in the prey centre, but I think she went back to yours and hers, sleeping cave, if I'm right…she was looking for you," Qibli said, turning around to look where she was looking and ducked his head to look at her face. Night lowered her head.
"Was she mad…or sad?" Night asked worriedly, then let out a snort when she realised what she had done. Qibli laughed and shook his head.
"Just mainly worried for you," he reassured. Night leaned against him.
"Awwww, Kink. And I'm guessing you were too," she smiled. Night saw out the corner of her eye (for a second) that Qibli blushed, before he fixed his face and nodded, grinning.
"Yeahh… let's go to Kinkajou. She is probably worried neither of us are there yet," Qibli said quickly. The two jogged down the hall in silence.
I did it. Qibli forgave me. Hopefully Kink will too. Maybe things are working out. Night wondered with a smile and jumped into her cave.
