"Hey, Cordy. What's up?" Xander asked when he answered his phone.
"Jean told me who the rest of my genetic parents are. One of them is dead, the other is very much alive. But while he's a superhero, he a non powered one. At least not powered by mutant powers. She wasn't sure why his DNA would be included in this science project those doctors had going."
"So who is he?"
"Tony Stark."
"Tony Stark, Iron Man Tony Stark. That Tony Stark?" Xander asked.
"Yes, and like I said, it's not making any sense."
"Actually it does. Practicality. He's got resources and contacts, as well as being like the second smartest person on the planet. And friends in literal high places, like Thor of Asgard. Although he didn't know Thor when they were creating us. But the point is, if the thing possessing you made a claim as his daughter, it would then have access to all of that too. Who knows what it could do with all of that."
"Which would explain it. I mean Reed Richards is arguably more intelligent and has money and resources as well. And for both of them it's family money. I suppose it could have been either one of them if that's the reason why he was included."
"It may be. Nancy is the only one they can't find. Her genetic parents might be along the same lines as yours. When it was determined that Neena Thurman was one of my genetic mothers that these doctors were using, it was theorized that they were singling out useful abilities to pass on to the mutants that they were creating. Money and resources are a different kind of useful but still definitely useful."
"Yeah and it's a kind I miss. We had money, nothing along the lines of Tony Stark or Reed Richards. And if money was all that it needed, then my family losing everything after Willow's stunt with the IRS would have made me unattractive as a host for it. Instead, it took advantage or possibly even whispered to Willow to get her do it, so I'd be desperate and willing to accept a job with Angel. My family money and resources couldn't come close to matching Stark's or Richards though, so if it was involved in why we were created, then it had to include everyone who's DNA was used because they were useful in some way, right?"
"Well, we still haven't confirmed if it was actually involved, but whether it was or not, the usefulness of Tony Stark and his money and resources doesn't change. Anymore then the usefulness of any of the other's unknowing contributions have been."
"And that's what it comes down to, doesn't?" Cordelia said. "How useful we are to this thing and whatever it's end goal was or possibly still is."
"Unfortunately true."
"I wonder why it went to the trouble of having Connor created." Cordelia said thoughtfully. "What exactly does the son of a souled vampire and a dusted, raised from the dead human, vamped again and impregnated by said souled vampire add to this perfect host it was trying to create? Sure he's stronger then a normal human, with some extras in the reflexes department, but so are alot of mutants. What makes him so special it went to all of this trouble to create him?"
"There was a lot of Magic involved in his creation, maybe that had to do with it." Xander suggested. "The baby it had the two of you conceive would then be a blending of science and Magic."
"I've been thinking about something else, Xander. Jean said the mystical prophylactic I used to keep Groo from getting my visions was unnecessary. Sex would not allow for the transfer of visions since they're a part of my mutant abilities. But we were convinced from the beginning that they were mystical in nature, hence why there was a chance he could get them and why I got that mystical prophylactic. But given that the visions aren't mystical, the prophylactic wasn't necessary. What if it had a different purpose? Because it was recommended that I use it. And then there's the fact that I came back from Ascension with amnesia and Lorne got a potion that was supposed to help me recover my memories. Instead it made us all seventeen again. Problem with that is, I had no knowledge of Sunnydale, vampires, my parents or you, my boyfriend at the time when I was seventeen. Just my personality. Everyone else remembered their lives at seventeen, but not me."
"You're saying that potion of Lorne's may also have been a set up, one that whammied you specifically. Where'd you get the idea that Groo could get your visions via sex come from anyway?"
"I had a vision of Fred in Pylea, which is Lorne's home dimension. We went to rescue her since the purpose of the visions was to help the people in them or so we thought. I had a vision while I was there and some Pyleans that saw me have it, decided I was cursed and called the High Priests, who determined I met the criteria of a prophecy. They wanted their Champion, who was Groo, to comshock me, their word, and take my visions. Instead, since humans were slaves there, we sparked a revolution. Groo followed me home and I thought we were in love. Then everyone started telling me I was in love with Angel and Groo left."
"He'd served his purpose, knowingly or unknowing, he helped maneuver you into the position that thing wanted you in."
"Fits the facts." Cordelia agreed sourly.
"So did the potion that affected your memories wear off?"
"No, Lorne was unaffected and got another that succeeded in recovering our memories. I was overwhelmed and ran out. I ran right into Connor and asked him to help me."
"A neat line of dominos all falling into place."
