Day 49: Togekiss
(BGM: Lake Theme from Diamond/Pearl/Platinum)
Time to take one last stop in the great region of Sinnoh for my favorite Pokemon of the region, as well as my second favorite Pokemon in general.
If you couldn't tell by how this marathon was set up…I kind of have a bias towards Generations 4 and 5. Platinum and the Black and White games are the Pokemon games that I've played the most, though, so I guess it's only natural that I show some favoritism towards them. The only surprise here is that a Pokemon from either generation didn't get the #1 spot.
But enough about that, let's talk about today's Pokemon and, in my opinion, the best of the new evolutions Generation 4 had to offer. Ladies and gentlemen, please give a warm welcome to the Jubilee Pokemon…
Togekiss!
(Insert Togekiss cry here)

Bit of an interesting choice to have as my favorite Sinnoh Pokemon, to be honest. I don't really hear a lot of people talk about Togekiss, and that's a real shame because Togekiss is easily one of Sinnoh's best Pokemon, and of all the Pokemon from previous generations that needed an evolution it was Togepi and Togetic.
Togetic isn't exactly the strongest Pokemon out there. Sure it has decent defenses and great Special Attack, but most of the moves that it learn naturally aren't that great and you'll be using TMs on him to get an ideal moveset. But, everything changed when he's given the brand spanking new Shiny Stone, evolving him into, no joke, one of the cutest Pokemon out there.
In just about every appearance, Togekiss is seen smiling, which makes sense given that Togekiss is literally called 'The Jubilee Pokemon'. Hell, according to most Pokedex entries, Togekiss is one of the more peaceful Pokemon as the entries state that he doesn't appear wherever there's turmoil or conflict.
Me: So if Pokemon were real, there'd basically be no Togekiss alive on Planet Earth.
Lyra: Yay! The world we live in sucks!
Togekiss is just a cute and harmless Pokemon not looking to cause or take part in any trouble, and avoid toxic situations as much as possible, which make Togekiss one of the more relatable Pokemon out there. Also, a part of me does find it humorous that Togekiss' need to avoid toxic situations/relationships only gets amplified further when he becomes a Fairy-type in Generation 6 and beyond, causing him to be weak to Poison-types.
Though on the plus side, now that Togekiss is part Fairy, he gains an immunity to Dragon, making him an ideal 'Dragon Slayer' for any team.
Cuteness and relatability aside, let's talk about some of Togekiss' other strong suits, his abilities being one of them.
First, there's Hustle, which is honestly the lesser of Togekiss' three abilities. Hustle makes it so the power of Togekiss' Physical Attacks get a significant boost at the cost of lowering their accuracy. Togekiss' Physical Attack is honestly trash so I would recommend Hustle as your go to ability for him. What I do recommend is his other ability and his hidden ability, Serene Grace and Super Luck respectively. With the former, it doubles the chance of a move's secondary effect activating; i.e stat changes, status conditions, and flinching. So, say for example you have a Togekiss with Air Slash, which has a chance of flinching the opponent. Now that chance for a flinch is amplified because of Serene Grace. And in the case of Super Luck, it raises the chance of Togekiss scoring a critical hit on one of his opponents. These two abilities are great and I highly recommend getting them for your own Togekiss.
Going into stats, as I've previously mentioned, Togekiss has poor Physical Attacking stat, but he more than makes up for that with a strong 120 Special Attack stat. Togekiss can also take some abuse as he has a 95 in Physical Defense and a 115 in Special Defense, making him a pretty decent tank. His speed and HP are pretty decent too, being 80 and 85 respectively, but Togekiss' defenses and Special Attack are his claim to fame.
And finally we come to his moves. Naturally, Togekiss can learn Air Slash, Ancient Power, Aura Sphere, and Tri Attack, as well as status moves like Charm and Sweet Kiss, and even some strategic moves like Wish, Baton Pass, and Safeguard.
For Egg moves, Togekiss can learn Extrasensory, Future Sight, and Morning Sun as some of its better moves.
And then we come to the TM moves. Some of Togekiss best moves can be found here including Flamethrower and Fire Blast, Shock Wave, Water Pulse, Shadow Ball, Psychic, Dazzling Gleam, Solar Beam, Magical Leaf, Draining Kiss, and Mystical Fire.
Yeah, Togekiss may prefer peace, but when push comes to shove he is not afraid to get his wings dirty.
To wrap this up, Togekiss is easily my favorite Sinnoh Pokemon. Not only did it make Togepi and Togetic wanted in the community, but the moves that he can learn, along with his amazing stats and abilities proves that Togekiss can potentially be a Pokemon worth your time…and one you should be very afraid of.
Seriously, on my very first playthrough of Platinum, I lost to Cynthia because of her Togekiss. Her Lucario may have dealt the finishing blow, but her Togekiss did most of the work…that cute smile of Togekiss' is not the face of mercy.
Me: Also, there's another part of me that finds it humorous that an evolution of Togepi, you know an egg Pokemon, narrowly missed getting talked about on Easter, a holiday where one of the big selling points is Easter Eggs.
Lyra: Speaking of which, are you down for coloring Easter Eggs today?
Me: I'll grab the paint brushes and stickers!
Lyra: This is going to be a fun afternoon!
