A/N: Four months... I'm sorry. So much happened from then to now. Limbus is here, RE4 is here, and so is Uni. With that in mind, Uni makes me procrastinate, and what is the best way to procrastinate other than to write? Here it is, the 13th chapter! Why today of all days? Well, I received a jumpscare from Vergilius Horse from the April fool's event, so I went to tell my friend about it. Do you know what the fucker said? "Where, Where is the 13th chapter jumpscare?" I could only answer with a humble "Fair."
karmax992: As funny as it would be... NAH, I AIN'T DOING THAT... maybe.
RhoMarck: You've been here since the beginning, and to that, I say thank you.
Guest: It is here. It has been continued.
Proud Parent: It will come. In time... All I'm gonna say is that someone will fucking distort.
Enjoy! Th-
A second image began to form from the Dust projector.
Though the audience was somewhat curious to see a new memory, the scientists started to panic quietly, quickly shuffling between controls, buttons, and consoles of the Remembrance Machine trying their best to keep tier professional front.
Doctor Märtz already in the action, moving at blinding speeds between the controls of the metal contraption trying to stop the memory without damaging Francisco in the process. Seeming to notice the struggle, the two headmasters quickly made their way to the doctor.
"What is the problem, Doctor?" Asked the General, still somewhat bothered by the heated argument he was just a few minutes ago. Märtz, however, ignored Ironwood completely as he pulled a lever on the side of a console, quickly shutting down the entire machine. Gathering himself, the doctor finally responded to the General.
"Nothing. Just a minor hiccup."
The projection quickly faded into small specks of blueish particles of hard light Dust. "The machine decided to act up and refused to shut down." He said, wiping a singular droplet off his balding forehead. "The guy inside should be fine…" Sparing a singular glance at the man in question on the other side of the glass pod, sweating profusely and barely even breathing, and immediately shrugging. "I think."
Ironwood was the first to praise the doctor, shaking his hand. "I congratulate you, Doctor. This is breaking grounds technology they've witnessed." The doctor did not respond for he was too occupied observing carefully Ozpin, who fidgeted on his feet, bothered by something he couldn't quite tell. The headmaster of Beacon academy was sweating, his eyebrows did not sit still, muscles on his flexed and relaxed at random intervals seemingly without his prompt, the man was even gritting his teeth under his poker face. He only seemed to calm down once he sipped coffee out of his white mug.
"I guarantee that this achievement won't be a special occasion, it'll be the rule." Märtz said, looking around in the audience until his attention was pulled towards a fascinating group of people.
First, there was Penny, someone Doctor Märtz knew very well considering that he was part of the team that made her. Then, there was Ruby Rose, according to the General, she was Ozpin's favorite student. A blonde girl… the doctor judged her to be irrelevant. Coco Adel leader of team CFVY, 'why would a third-year student be with the first years?' A question for later. And that one guy in the wheelchair, apparently his teammate was the one who was used in the machine. He seemed to be a Faunus since he had a singular Black Wing attached to his back and was now caressing it on his lap, using his hands.
'Quite peculiar', he thought.
As he kept analyzing it from afar, completely ignoring Ironwood who kept praising his success, the wing of that student suddenly opened various yellow eyes that stared directly at him. Falling to his back from the actual jumpscare the wings gave him, Doctor Märtz quickly recomposed himself as he kept staring at it, unable to take his gaze away.
One of his assistants came to him, offering a hand. "Are you okay Doc? You fell so suddenly, what happened?"
Swiping the helping hand away, he got on his feet and huffed. "I just tripped, mind your own business." He spoke with venom in his voice. The assistant shrugged, somewhat used to this kind of treatment, and carried on with his work.
Märtz glanced over to the students with curiosity in his eyes, then, he looked at Francisco who was being helped to get out from inside the memory machine through the thing's window as a mischievous idea shone in his head.
Moments Earlier
General Ironwood observed stoically as his fellow headmaster stomped towards him, visibly angry. Ironwood swallowed. "Ozpin, how do y-" Only, he didn't have a singular ounce of patience to spare.
"James. What is the meaning of this?!" Ozpin was already in his face, ignoring completely the machine coming to life. "You take my student as a test subject, then, without my knowledge, broadcast his past to the whole world as if he's an animal in a menagerie! Explain yourself!"
Ironwood cleared his throat and began. "I had my scientists work on something that would allow us a chance against the Nightmare, without revealing the Grimm's existence to the world." He said, looking around them, making sure nobody was paying attention to them. "We both know we can't keep relying on Shion to do all the heavy lifting-No, all the lifting for that matter."
Ozpin sighed in exasperation, sinking his fingers deep into his quickly receding hairline. "Why wasn't this brought to me sooner?" He said, trying his best to return to his usual calm and calculating nature.
"Trust me Oz, I would, however, Dr. Märtz and Dr. Polendina had a… unfortunate realization." Ozpin remained silent as if telling him to continue. "They are very gifted in the intellectual field. According to them, the reason behind the attack at the CCT was to plant some sort of virus into our security system, which we've yet to neutralize."
Beacon's Headmaster pondered for a second. It made sense for James not to warn him beforehand, considering the enemy is already inside the wire. He needed to tell Ozpin this personally. "But why do this… Presentation? Francisco is a huntsman in training, and I will not tolerate this sort of treatment of my students in the future."
Ironwood's expression shifted to a mocking one. "Student? Do you think a student is capable of all that slaughter?" He said in a tone matching his face. "We've seen the recordings of their mission." Ironwood leaned closer to Ozpin. "If anything, I'm… Afraid of what might become of them." Ozpin raised his eyebrows.
"Yes, they've wiped out a hefty chuck of the White Fang in Vale, however, their mentality, their ideals… They're so convenient for someone she'd want working under her."
Both headmasters went silent.
Ironwood waited for his friend's response. Ozpin hummed patiently as he looked around him. "James… Do you have any recollection of team STRQ?" Ironwood became somewhat confused. "Vaguely. Wasn't that Qrow's team?" He said, urging Ozpin to continue.
"Indeed. STRQ was perhaps the strangest team to ever cross my sights, not due to their silver-eyed leader, but because of the two Branwen siblings." Ironwood blinked. "To put it bluntly, they were savages, killing almost every opposition they had, be it Grimm or otherwise, however, the ones they've dispatched, were all deserving of it in one way or another."
Ozpin smiled solemnly, as he reminisced about the old memories. "Sure, they pretty much traumatized almost everyone around them, but at the end of their time here, they became almost like a family. Some of them took that a tad too literally."
Ironwood still didn't understand. "Is there a point to this, Ozpin?"
Ozpin chuckled. "What I'm trying to say, is that at the end of it all, despite their initial ideals, they saw the error in their ways and became Huntsmen."
The General kept his serious face. "Didn't Raven leave to become a Leader of a bandit tribe?"
"That may be the case. But Beacon still left a lasting impression on her."
Ironwood huffed. "So what is it you want Oz?" Ozpin seemed to calm down significantly. "I want what's best for all of us, and they are no different."
It seemed like that was enough for the General, as he quickly mentioned to the Doctor to shut down the experiment. "Very well. Let's have it your way then, Oz…" Ozpin let out a sigh of-
"Under one condition."
Ozpin has had enough of the General's bullshit at this point, so all he wanted now was for this conversation to be over. "What is it?"
The General knew how much of an effect he was having on his fellow Headmaster, so he decided not to take any more of his time. "There is a student at Atlas, she's unfortunately without a team. Would it be too much to ask if she could join theirs?" Ozpin was quick to catch on to his plan. "You plan to spy on them? With a student of yours!?" Ironwood chuckled. "She can more than handle herself, not to mention, she's a sweetheart, even the worst they can conjure will not be able to hurt the girl."
Ozpin didn't even bother to give an answer, as he already knew that his opinion wouldn't change the outcome of this conversation. "Tell her to meet us at my office at 5 pm. If she's late, she'll lose this opportunity."
"Very well."
Colors.
Too many colors.
Orange, Purple, Brown, Green.
Then, the light came.
Yellow, Red, Blue.
Memories of his past life came bursting forth.
Black, White, Grey.
The names of his coworkers echoed around him.
Angelina, Caio, Ticket, John.
A burning sensation filled his mind and body.
Ivan, Bemaia, Gus.
He remembered it well now. He was fighting alongside his coworkers against Xiao, only, they failed. Xiao had won, for now. The Library would chew her up, uncaring for their loss of victory.
Francisco, Angie.
He felt it, the Charge he had stored, leaving his body of light.
Francisco… Loud noises filled his ears.
The names couldn't reach him anymore, as his body felt as if it was falling more and more into an unending colorful abyss.
'Is this what you wanted? Lady Angela?'
He fell further.
The noise became distant, and only a sweet yet uncanny melody remained.
A voice soon came, matching the uncanny nature of the song.
'The fire is gone?'
He felt as if he was trapped inside his own mind, falling unto eternity, if he was dead, then the voice was clearly the demon beckoning him to the other side.
'You say that, but you weren't there.'
'No matter the cause, that god-forsaken place should not exist.'
'...'
'What a fool I was, my family didn't need me in the first place.'
'...'
'It is true, that place was hell on earth, but even then I found solace.'
'Hmph. Whatever it is you are preaching, your words fall on deaf ears.'
'No, if given the chance, I'd do it all again.'
'...' 'Destiny…?'
'No, I don't. Such a thought is meaningless.'
'Destiny. The idea is that a human's future is set in stone, or perhaps changeable. That's idiotic. Only the delusional would believe in such a theory.'
'Huh?'
'What do you mean-'
"By the Twins… You're quite the fighter…" Doc. Johnson huffed, as he sulked into a chair next to the bed. "Thanks for the help, Miss Schnee. After hearing your team's report about people turning into light, we got lucky you happened to pass by."
Weiss was not thrilled.
She was debating internally rather or not it was worth it to allow another one of them to remain in Remnant. She could only hope it was the right decision. "No problem, Doctor." She then turned to the elephant in the room.
"So!"
Weiss yelled, as she rudely pointed at the man she just had managed to unlock his aura. "You're Fred. Aren't you?"
His heart was racing, his mind was running on everything he had as his body felt progressively lighter. He was barely able to speak. "How…"
Weiss kept an intimidating expression on her face, staring at him. "Your friends."
Barely hanging on the edge of consciousness, Fred spoke softly. "That's a strong word to describe our relationship..." He said, holding his head feeling slight pain. As his senses finally returned to him, he looked at his hands, a barely visible barrier with a tiffany green hue, softly engulfing his body. He felt as if a great weight was lifted from his back. "What did you do to me?"
Doc. Johnson perked in the conversation. "Thanks to Miss Schnee here, your Aura has just been unlocked." Fred kept glancing at his own hands, observing the faint light that covered his skin. "And? There is surely a catch."
The doctor cleared his throat to speak while Weiss watched the young man with judging eyes. "Aside from protecting you from physical threats," He started as a clear chalkboard was brought to them by one of his assistants. Then, he began to sketch a stick figure with a circle surrounding it.
Fred raised his eyebrows.
"Aside from being functionally a force-field," Doc Johnson then began to draw another stick figure, this time, he'd drawn it without the circle. "We recently discovered that-"
Fred interrupted him. "Is there a rest stop between now and the actual point?"
The doctor was left staggered.
"What's that even supposed to mean? With due respect doctor, but I don't think you need to DRAW a DRAWING for me to understand you." Fred said bluntly, uncaring if he sounded rude or otherwise.
Doc. Johnson stammered his talk. "Well, I- I mean, I thought that- Well, your partner he-"
Fred sighed as Weiss, though she tried to remain serious, struggled to hold that charade. "You assume I am illiterate because of my partner Francisco?"
The doctor failed to come up with an answer.
"Why?" Fred pressured him.
Weiss had to excuse herself from the room as the cringed from the interaction between the two.
"That aside, where even am I?" With no response coming from the still staggered doctor, Fred soon realized that the suit from the Key Page he wore, had vanished and instead, he was using a blue and white medic gown. "Where're my clothes?!" He exclaimed, quickly rising from the bed and holding the doctor by the collar of his white coat. "Where did you put them?!" As soon as he realized that the doctor didn't have a clue, he let go of his clothing. "By the wings… Lady Angela is going to kill me…"
Gathering himself from Fred's outburst, Doc Johnson began his need explanation. "Weiss, she unlocked your aura so that you don't… Disintegrate? I wouldn't know how to explain it since I wasn't there when it happened to your friend, but it has to do with some sort of light?" The doctor took a sheet of paper from the endless metal drawers present in his office and read it one more time, just to be sure. "'Francisco entered our room, as per request of the Headmaster, and promptly began to show similar symptoms to that of a stroke, then, starting from his left arm, his body began turning into a yellow light. The process only stopped when Ruby Rose;' the leader of team RWBY, 'unlocked his Aura'. And that's what Weiss did to you. So you don't disintegrate."
The former librarian looked at him with an incredulous look. "I've worked at two different wings, and this is the first time I've ever heard that term used in a serious situation."
This was perhaps the strangest situation the doctor had ever gotten himself into, but it was leagues ahead of dealing with that bald guy. "Look, you sure as hell seem fine so I won't hold you here, but, Ozpin's gonna want to talk to you."
As if on cue, before he had time to question him further, from the already opened door came a man in green with gray hair and a cane in his hand, Weiss, who left the room seconds followed suit. "Were you waiting outside?" Johnson said, amazed by the Headmaster's timing.
"Who's to say?" Ozpin hummed as he carried himself into the office and stopped right in front of Fred. "So… You're Fred, correct? Your two friends have gained quite the reputation around campus while you were resting."
Fred huffed, frustrated. "Why does everyone seem to know me?" Ozpin chuckled softly. "Well, it's just that your situation is… Bizarre, to say the least."
The final former librarian frowned. 'Where is this place anyways? This is definitely outside of the library… Aura… Is that a lost singularity?'
"I won't bother you with the details as I am sure your friends will enjoy explaining it to you." He then reached for something under his coat. "I will, however…" Ozpin pulled out a sheet of paper and handed it to Fred. "Offer you the same contract I offered to Mr. Francisco and Mr. Bemaia."
Fred took it and glared at the paper. "What am I looking at here?" Ozpin kept his patient smile. "Stating the obvious, it's a contract. Abridging it for you, it states that you will enroll at Beacon Academy like any other student." Fred quickly read through it. "And why do I care…?" Ozpin cleared his throat. "Unfortunately, at this time, you will not be able to access whatever money you may have."
Fred hummed in understanding. "Ah… I see. So this is not really a matter of choice." Ozpin nodded.
"I see here that there is a…" He squinted his eyes to read it. "'Initiation process'? What does this initiation entail?" Ozpin handed the young man a pen. "Fortunately for you, you're going to skip that part. Francisco has vouched about your skill with a weapon, and we don't have time to organize that." Fred raised his eyebrows, surprised. "That's a first." Ozpin chuckled. "I'm sorry if this feels like it's too much to handle all at once…"
Fred raised his hand, signaling him to stop. "It's fine. Just, how long did you have me in the bed." Ozpin obliged. "About four weeks. Bemaia and Francisco woke up two weeks ago." Fred nodded. "Well. It's not like I have a home to return to, and the promises you make don't seem quite bad. I mean, free health care for the students? As a former researcher of K-Corp, I must say that this is a steal!" The headmaster sighed in relief. "Then I suppose there is no need for further courtesy. Write down your full name, occupation, former occupation, height, weight, age… The usual. For your ID… We'll leave it blank."
Fred glared at the headmaster. Now, he didn't know Ozpin, in fact, he hasn't ever seen the man, nor did he ever even hear about this Beacon Academy, but, he knew for a fact he seemed… off.
"A bit too desperate, aren't we?"
Ozpin was caught by surprise by that comment. "Excuse me?"
Fred stopped filling in the contract. "No need for initiation. No need for an ID. What's the catch?"
Ozpin murmured something Fred couldn't hear. "Am I really that obvious?"
Fred nodded. "Ah… Well… I suppose there is no need to beat around the bush." Ozpin adjusted his glasses as Fred leaned closer. "I need you three." Fred raised his eyebrows but remained silent. "My fight is one fought from the shadows, and you three appear without notice, without history. No one knows of your existence in Remnant, at least, not the enemies of mankind." Fred was somewhat intrigued by this. 'Remnant?' he thought to himself. "I'm listening." He said. "I've told this to Francisco already but… Oh dear, I really do sound desperate…"
Fred, although he had awakened in this place for less than an hour, he already caught wind of what was going on. "Ah, that must be one of the effects of the light." Ozpin was left staggered. "What?" Fred nodded. "The light from Lobotomy Corporation, that bathed the City for three days and three nights, serves many purposes, and one of them, the most basic, is to increase 'Feelings' from those exposed to it."
The headmaster stared into his eyes, and upon finding no deceit in his words, he continued. "Elaborate."
Fred promptly complied. "The light heightens one's emotions, makes them act using their heart instead of their head. Even the most cool-headed individuals will fold to their egoism." Ozpin hummed. "I take it, that Francisco and Bemaia don't know about this Light." Fred found this amusing and chuckled. "Hah! Completely expected. Either they are too ignorant to know, or they are too ignorant to care."
Ozpin took a sip from his coffee, debating rather or not to accept that information at face value. On one hand, what Fred had just said was complete and utter bull. However, ever since the three arrived, absurd things started happening left and right. They completely charm Professor Port with food cooked in their dorm rooms, they've managed to completely wipe out a whole section of the White Fang sustaining… acceptable damage, and managed to deal serious damage to THE Wyvern. All within the week. On the other hand, they have managed to befriend and, as day turned to night, completely ruin their friendship with team RWBY.
These three, for Ozpin, were an ace in the hole. They are completely unknown to the enemy, and yet blend right in… "Then, I trust you three to handle things should anything happen due to that 'Light'." Fred nodded. "Anything you ask us will be better than what we used to do, Ozpin…" he said while signing the contract at hand. "...Or, should I say, Manager?"
A wave of relief hit Ozpin. The headmaster understood that those people that came from the 'City' had a particular respect for the concept of contracts, and the fact that Bemaia and Francisco were willing to put their life on the line because of the contract served to assure the Headmaster of the weight these pieces of paper had to them.
The fact that Fred had signed it, it was safe to assume that Ozpin had him at the ready. "Headmaster, or Ozpin. No need to be so formal." Fred nodded as he brought something to light. "So, let's review the contract."
Fred cleared his throat.
"Three other partners and I will engage in academic activities together and be assigned a Team, with a team leader. I assume the team will consist of me, the two clowns, and one other." Ozpin nodded. "The fourth and last member has just arrived." Fred ignored Ozpin's comment and continued. "As a team, we will do Fixer work. We might work as Hitmans, bodyguards, helping hands, huntsmen, protectors…" Fred trailed off and Ozpin kept his stoic expression, waiting for the former Librarian to organize his thoughts. "Here it says, 'Beacon has earnt renown for creating Heroes, and soon, you shall become one', Is this some sort of acronym perhaps?"
Ozpin frowned at the comment. "I don't know how things work in your City, but here, In Remnant, heroes are many and are needed. Our fight is against darkness, after all." Fred stopped for a second. Did he just hear that? There was no mistaking it. The Headmaster had just confirmed that this place was outside of the City. "Oh, so this is not the City? How far off into the outskirts are we in?" Fred added, choosing to ignore that 'hero' part. That was just silly on the Headmaster's part in his eyes. "Let's skip that part, I'm sure your soon-to-be teammates will be thrilled to fill you in on the details and intricacies of Remnant. Carry on."
Fred nodded, deciding to accept it. "It says that I won't need to have a normal initiation?" Ozpin nodded. "Indeed. I've heard many things about you from the two and I decided to take it at face value. With the Vytal festival right around the corner, we need the help." Fred chuckled alone for a moment, then continued. "Then we are left with the accommodations and… Basic needs? I assume this means food and water."
Now, that was concerning. Does he not understand what 'Basic needs' entail? "That, in addition to, a place to sleep, clothing, a room for privacy, free tuition to the elementary subjects if necessary, free health care…" Fred was surprised. "Oh. So the same as my old home at K's Nest. I must say, this is royalty." Ozpin nodded. "You could say that. Though, the 'catch' is that you will be assigned to missions I choose."
Fred shrugged and got up from the bed, lazily stretching. "That's fair I suppose."
Swiftly checking the time, Ozpin got up from his seat. "I have other matters to attend to. Feel free to walk around campus, just remember to be at my office by five." Fred shuddered a the thought of having to work together again with those uncouth troglodytes but decided not to express this to the headmaster. He did decide, however, to express another concern of his. "Dressed like this?." Ozpin hummed in response, amuzed. "I'll have someone to deliver your uniform. Stay safe now. Oh, one more thing, and I'll be out of your hair" The headmaster continued. "Tell Mister Bemaia and Mister Dumont to follow you to my office." He said, leaving the room, leaving Fred and Doctor Johnson in the infirmary room.
"Guess that's settled..." The doctor spoke reaching for the nearby broom to clean his room.
There was still something that Fred didn't get. The girl, Weiss. Just as quickly as she appeared, she left. Simply came in, unlocked his aura, and left. And that was the very thing he didn't understand, what IS Aura? Is it a Singularity, some sort of augmentation, or something else entirely? The doctor did explain for a brief moment but Fred interrupted him.
"I'll ask Bemaia later..."
Speak of the devil, and he shall appear.
Out of the door, two familiar yet strange morons walked in. One of them was stuck in a wheelchair with most of his body bandaged, the other had a metal casing around where the left arm should have been. "Oh hey, guess who decided to w-" Bemaia began, only to be silenced by a burst of unholy laughter.
"BWAHAHAHAHA! WOULD YOU LOOK AT THAT!"
Francisco sighed. "I don't know what I was expecting." But taunting had only just begun.
"What happened to the two best fighters Lobotomy had to offer?! HAHAHA!"
Bemaia let out a loud pained groan. "Shut up, I fought a dragon, alright, give me some slack." Francisco quietly made his way towards Fred who kept up his taunting.
"So what? You're still confined to a wheeled metal sarcophagus!"
Francisco stood in front of Fred, staring him directly in the eyes, his bigger frame blocked Bemaia's line of sight.
"Like what you see?" Fred said as he recoiled away from the former proselyte ever so slightly. "Perhaps." He answered in a low tone.
After a few moments of silence, Francisco swiftly embraced his partner, lifting him from the ground in a big hug with his singular functional arm. "I was so worried you fucking asshole!" Francisco yelled as Fred struggled against his grasp.
"Let go of me you illiterate brute!" But Francisco cared not. "My brother in christ, you've been in a coma for almost a month!"
Shoving his hand in Francisco's face, Fred tried relentlessly to break free. "How's that my fault!? Let me go!"
But it was to no avail.
"No!" He yelled, tightening his hold.
"I'll put your uniform in the chair here and wait outside. Yell when you two decide to stop flirting." Bemaia said, leaving his partner's uniform on a chair and leaving the room.
He could only hear muffled screams and the sound of the birds chirping outside. "'Could have been worse."
Weiss stoically left the Doctor's room unannounced, storming out toward her team's dorm room, her head filled to the brim with questions she refused to seek out an answer for.
'Why would Ozpin allow such people into his Academy?'
Was the most prominent one. 'The two, allegedly, aren't even from this world, and now the third one is awake and Ozpin is already negotiating a way for him to join the academy?!' Frustration washed over her being.
The halls of Beacon were crowded, the reason for such was unknown to the Schnee. The classes hadn't finished, and yet so many students, first to third years, were all blocking her path to her dorm. Weiss frowned. 'Did I do the right thing?' She slowed her pacing to keep up with the crowd of adolescents. 'No. Maybe it was for the best, still though...' She was still hesitant when it came to this Fred. Was she in the right for unlocking his aura? The two had already left a mark, not only on her team but also on herself. The Faunus they… Slaughtered, were all members of the White Fang, they had captured Ruby and even threatened to do unspeakable things to her… A child.
Even after watching the camera recordings of the mission, Weiss still couldn't feel a singular droplet of pity for them. No, what truly bothered her was the possibility of them turning against her and her team. Their brutality, the violence they portrayed… It was all a giant reality check to the young huntress in training. However, hope still remained within the young Schnee. "If what happened to Francisco is a constant to them, then I just saved Fred's life... Surely, he won't make me worry too much." She sighed, as saw the people waiting for her near her dorm.
Standing right in front of her dorm room door, the rest of her team waited for her alongside a guest.
"Hello, Penny." Weiss awkwardly said as the memories of when she first bumped into her were still fresh in her mind. The machine 'girl' simply waved back, while Ruby spake worriedly. "Weiss..."
"Have you calmed down?" The heiress simply asked, receiving a nod from her leader. "Good."
Yang saw her sister acting so repressed, like a dog that knew they'd done something bad. So she decided to swiftly change the subject before the awkwardness of the silence could tighten its hold. "Did you hear the news? Our little metallic friend here is joining us here at Beacon!" Before Weiss could express a proper reaction, Penny began speaking. "Indeed!" She excitedly started. "After the presentation from Doctor Märtz, General Ironwood decided to transfer me to Beacon seeing that I already lacked a team back in Atlas Academy, and have made soo many friends with the Beacon student body already!" She said with an overwhelmingly adorable smile plastered on her face. "In a few hours, I will meet my new teammates! Isn't this exciting!?"
All of the girls, but Penny felt a chill run down their spine for some unknown reason and Blake was the first to shoot her glare toward the end of the hall hearing a most familiar voice.
"I'm telling you, this is another world!"
It was the voice of Francisco, Blake deduced.
"Don't know... Seems like... What do you backstreets simpletons say? Bull...shit. Yeah, That's bullshit."
Now that's a new voice she didn't recognize. 'Did the third one wake up?' She thought to herself as they turned the corner of their hallway. The team kept quiet, only Penny had the gull to speak up. "Salutations, friend Bemaia!" Penny yelled with the same adorable excitement as ever, hastily appearing behind him to push his wheelchair. Bemaia, on the other hand, did not feel soo friendly towards her, in fact, she had successfully jump-scared him, forcing his body to react violently by quickly tensing up his muscles, including the ones from his broken legs. Hissing through his clenched teeth, he tried to ignore the pain.
"Arg-"
But something more important than his wounds was about to unfold in front of his eyes. Bemaia, barely being able to ignore the pain, observed Francisco's cheerful expression turn to one of disgust, then, almost as quickly, turn to confusion.
"Is she your friend?" Francisco calmly asked Bemaia as Fred politely greeted the four petrified girls watching the situation unfold. Bemaia didn't have time to think before something irreversible happened. So he just spew out the first this that came to mind. "Yes, she is." Be-
"Sensational! I knew you were my friend all along!" Penny said as she turned to Fred and Francisco. "Salutations future friends! My name is Penny, it is a pleasure to meet you." She said, extending her hand to greet them. Francisco carefully pushed her hand aside, even when Fred was about to shake it, and approached her calmly, leaning towards her ear. "Not now, Machine. We will resolve this later." He murmured.
"Very Well!" Penny said with her smile unaltered while she helped Bemaia to his dorm room, just a door after RWBY's dorm. "Have you met my other friends, Ruby, Weiss, Blake, and Yang?" Penny innocently asked Francisco. "We are acquaintances, even had a stroke in their dorm, so yes, I've met them." He answered in a stern voice, holding back what Bemaia only predicted to be slurs against Penny.
She then turned to Fred. "And you?" Fred politely extended his hand to greet the four girls. "My name is Fred, I hope to be working alongside you in the future." Ruby shook his hand, feeling somewhat better about herself. "Well... If they're Penny's friends..." Ruby steeled her resolution. Took a deep breath, and began,
"T-thanks."
That was all that she managed to say, quickly and awkwardly letting go of his hand. "Some dare to call that poetry..." Yang joked as Ruby landed a jab in her sister's abdomen, earning a small chuckle from Bemaia and Bemaia alone.
"Since you're all here, might as well say this..." Francisco pulled out four small pieces of yellow paper from his pocket. "These are reservations for a restaurant not too far from the Academy, Professor Port's recommendation, and all that. Ozpin told me to make amends, so here we are." Francisco said, unbeknownst to them, Ozpin had been the one to buy eight of those reservations so they could properly apologize.
"Ooh... Am I invited as well?" Penny asked, only to be instantly shut down by a stern and direct, "No." From Bemaia.
"Well then. These two will show me around the academy, afterward, we'll go to Ozpin's so he can give us a team name. See you around girls." Just like that, the alien trio vanished just as quickly as they arrived.
"Ha!" Yang blurted out, breaking the silence. "See?! If they laugh at my jokes then they ARE normal people." She said with a confident smile on her face.
"Only one of them laughed..." Ruby murmured.
"Still, where's this restaurant they spoke about?" Ruby handed each of her teammates a piece of the paper. "It reads 'Kyleneath's Cusigne'... Never heard of-"
"HOW?" Weiss screamed so loudly that even Penny recoiled from the noise.
"What!" Blake too, yelled, clasping her ears.
"How did they get a chair, nay! A whole table in Kyleneath!?" Yang, recovering from the sudden blast, spoke "What's so impressing about that?" Weiss swiftly entered the dorm and carefully stored it in a safe location inside her bag.
"Oh? It's just home to the most prestigious chef on the planet! Kyleneath himself!" Ruby, understanding the importance of such a thing, too went to place her's somewhere dry and safe.
"So what? It's just a chef." Blake retorted. "The thing about Kyleneath is that he doesn't ask for your Lien, you only pay for entry. Inside, you can ask for literally anything and he will make it for you." Yang raised her eyebrow. "Anything?" Weiss nodded. "Anything to the utmost perfection, and none of that 'you pay for the experience' type of deals... I've never been able to afford a single chair with him... How..."
Yang then ran to the dorm as well.
"It says here it's reserved for 8 pm next Friday…" Blake said. "I must admit, even if they are scum, they certainly know how to surprise…" The three glared at Blake, who simply stared back at them. "What? Don't tell me you're all planning to go."
Penny quickly responded, "I'm not!" But was promptly ignored, fortunately, she remained unbothered by it.
"You aren't?!" Yang almost screamed at Blake.
"They are murderers!"
"So?! When will an opportunity like this ever appear again?!"
"You've seen what they've done to those Faunus at mount. Glenn!"
"And I'm willing to see past that!"
"You're thinking with your stomach!"
"Well, maybe I am! So what!?"
Using her semblance, Ruby put herself between the two, stretching her arms to make space between them. "Stop, you two!"
Moments passed, and Yang and Blake seemed to calm down. "Okay…" Ruby sighed in relief.
"First, no fights." The two nodded.
"Second," She turned to Blake, who simply glared at her. "We don't have to like them to enjoy a good dinner." Blake opened her mouth to retort but was silenced by Ruby's index finger sealing her lips.
"Third, If what Weiss said is true then they are legitimately asking for forgiveness." Blake still had some things to say about it, but… The face Ruby was giving her… None could defy that face. "Fine. I'll give them this one chance."
"Yaay!" Ruby jolted up. "Ready up mister Coyote! Team RWBY will test your metal!"
Later that day, without any warning or preparation, no audience or ceremony, a new team was assigned to Beacon Academy inside Ozpin's office. "Francisco, Fred, Penny, and Bemaia. These are very special times. A first-year team to be formed this late is quite rare. But no matter. From now on, you four will be known as Team PBFF, A.K.A., Team Beef."
Francisco couldn't help but snicker at that name. "Do you have something to say, young man? If you do, try to come up with a better name before you speak."
Francisco opened his mouth, but, upon reflection, closed it and nodded in understanding.
"And its leader is…" Ozpin's eyes traveled from left to right. "
Penny Polendina. Congratulations, young lady."
The young 'lady' pounced on the three aliens on sheer instinct, pinning them to the ground. "Amazing! I promise to be the best leader you three will ever have!" The three forcefully yanked the girl out of them, all with varying expressions on their faces. But, there was only one thing constant going on in their minds. 'You won't have to try that hard.'
"Now that that's out of the way, you four are dismissed. It's getting late."
'A lone soldier will never be able to best an army on his own...'
'Why must he fight anyways? He will surely die.'
'He must because it's the 'right thing to do' or so you say.'
'Is such a thing possible?'
'No, I mustn't disagree. You speak the truth.'
'These... Things... Just arrived and-'
'We are responsible for them.'
'We allowed them to live.'
'In retrospect, then, I am the one to blame...'
'No- I would never do that to them! They are my blood!'
'Yes! They are misguided!'
'I am not a hypocrite!'
'Show yourself!'
In a cold sweat, Blake woke up in her bed. Checking her scroll, temporarily blinding herself with the bright light coming from it, she noted that it was only 2 am. Gasping for air, the Faunustried to relax, and soon, she drifted to sleep once again.
