Summary:

Aki wakes up her parents in the middle of the night to show them something outside.

"Shooting Stars"

In the dead of night with the moon and stars still shining bright in the night sky the three inhabitants of the Ikari household were all asleep - or at least they all were supposed to as suddenly the door to the parents' main bedroom was quickly opened by their daughter Aki who was wide awake.

"Mama! Papa! WAKE UP, WAKE UP!

Before either of the two sleepy parents could get up and ask what the emergency was, Aki had quickly jumped on to the bed, and unfortunately for Shinji, Aki landed hard on his chest resulting in him being both now wide awake like his excited daughter but also in pain from her landing.

"Hurry, wake up, wake up, WAKE UP!" Aki clearly was overly excited about something as she continued to jump up and down on the bed, which she was given space to do so by Shinji having turned over and sliding out of bed while nursing his slightly bruised chest. Honestly Shinji was beginning to see a pattern here lately with Aki seemly using him as a landing cushion.

"Schätzchen what is all the commotion about?" Asuka, now awake as everyone else in the room, asked the most important question.

"No time, no time, hurry up, follow me!" Aki quickly jumped down from the bed and ran out of the room.

Both the young adults looked at each other and went after Aki. Clearly something had gotten their child's attention enough to warrant her to act like this. They eventually found Aki outside in the garden and seemly looking up at the sky. Knowing that her two parents had followed and were behind her, Aki was pointing up at the sky.

"Look Mama, Papa, in the sky!"

Both Asuka and Shinji looked up and realised what had got Aki's attention: Many lights illuminating the night as they crossed the darkness, a bright streak following them. What they saw was a rare meteor shower.

"Oh wow would you look at that." Shinji said as he looked up in amazement and not the only one as Asuka herself was gazing up at the sky in wonder.

"What is all this Mama, Papa?" Aki asked, still not taking her eyes of the spectacular event before her.

"Well Schätzchen, you know about the shooting stars from your books right?" Asuka asked with Aki quickly nodding, having remembered a few of her books that had stars in them. "Well what your seeing here is a bunch of them falling to the earth instead of passing by it."

Aki looked away from the sight to look at her mother. "Wait so I can make more than one wish if I pray to all all of them?" Aki asked innocently, having also remembered that you can make a wish on a bright star.

"Well actually Aki you ca…. ouch!" Shinji yelped in both pain and surprise before he could finish his sentence as Asuka had pinched his side hard in order to stop him. As Shinji looked to her he saw in her eyes a warning not to continue.

With her secret message to Shinji delivered, Asuka turned back to Aki with a smile. "Of course you can Schätzchen. You can make as many wishes as you want. Just remember to do them quickly as this event won't last forever.

Taking her Mama's words to heart Aki turned back to the falling stars, bringing her hands together in a prayer like fashion.

"I wish to find more yummy candy and sweets when I go to the city with Papa and Mama!"

"I wish to - to have more crayons too, oh and more paper and colouring books too!"

"I wish for more special meal days too as well please!"

"I wish to find more funny comics in the city!"

"I wish to be able to swim without the silly rubber thingy's!"

"I wish..." Aki quickly glanced back to her parents for a second before turning back "to not have many baths please," Aki said in a whispered voice but of course in the quiet night both parents heard it and just silently chuckled knowing that this one wish wasn't gonna come true.

"I wish for more..." Aki voiced trailed off as she saw the stars starting to come less frequently now until only a single bright spot remained to cross the sky. "I wish to always be with Mama and Papa forever and always be happy!"

This last wish Aki said put a warm and proud smile on both Asuka and Shinji's faces and for this one wish they definitely hoped it to come true. Even if it wouldn't, both parents vowed to make it come true for all their sakes.

Just as they finished that train of thought the meteor shower finally ended. Aki continued to look up, hoping to possibly get a wish or more but to the little girl's dismay there were no more stars flying across the night sky anymore.

"Aki honey, it's over now, time to get back to bed." Shinji told his daughter.

"Aww but I'm not tired Papa." Aki replied to her father but unfortunately her young body betrayed her as a deep and sleepy yawn from her mouth proved otherwise.

"Now now Schätzchen it's really late and you need your sleep," Asuka said as she walked over to her daughter before picking her up in her arm and walking back into the house. Aki, knowing that any attempts to stay up longer were bound to fail, admitted defeat and snuggles herself in her mother's warm and safe embrace.

End.
