Summary:
Asuka and Shinji wake up to another day though both are surprised that Aki hasn't woken them up first as usual.
"A Common Cold"
A loud crowing sound originating from the chicken coop awoke Asuka from her peaceful slumber. Which was a slight surprise as it has been awhile since she or Shinji had relied on the rooster (a new one much to her and Shinji chagrin) to wake them up since Aki would regularly wake them even before the bird did.
Sitting up from bed, she stretched her tired limbs before looking down lovingly at her beloved idiot who was still asleep contentedly, laying a hand on top of his head and combing his messy brown hair.
"Guten Morgen, Liebling." Asuka muttered to Shinji as she slightly shook him to wake him up. Sure enough Shinji was stirred awake, rubbing his eyes before he looked up at his wife with a content smile.
"Good morning, Asuka." Shinji greeted back while he sat up before kissing her softly on the lips, which Asuka melted into. However Asuka was surprised next that Shinji was becoming bolder by continuously kissing her, even forcing her back down on the bed with him on top of her.
"Baka..what are..you..doing?" Asuka managed to let out through the barrage of Shinji's kisses he was still giving her.
"I thought..that..was..obvious." Shinji answered as he continued kissing her, even leaving her luscious lips to kiss her exposed neck, which Shinji knew was a particular weak spot for her.
Asuka gasped out in pleasure at that. The impulse to just give in right now to the pleasure was tempting, very tempting as it has been over a week since she and Shinji had any time for their 'fun adult activities' but she had to remember that right now wasn't the best time.
"Baka..we can't right now. Aki will be here any minute." Asuka tried to reason while she moaned out as Shinji moved from her neck to another pleasurable weak spot of hers which was him playfully nibbling and licking her ear.
"Are you sure about that?" Shinji said while he went back to her lips giving her a deep and lingering kiss before coming up for air after. "Maybe she's finally sleeping in today which means we have plenty of time for ourselves." Shinji finished saying before leaning down to continue kissing Asuka.
Obviously Asuka wasn't getting anywhere by asking her clearly horny baka husband nicely, so it was time to take charge. Remembering her combat training, she was able to grab Shinji's hip with her legs in a tight grip and surprised him by quickly reversing their positions with her now on top and holding him down by keeping hold of his hands by his side.
Quickly overcoming his surprise, Shinji could only stare up at Asuka with a knowing perverted smirk on his face. It was definitely not a surprise to him that Asuka always liked being on top and in charge of their lovemaking and he was clearly never going to complain about that. Shinji expected their fun to continue but as tempting it also was for Asuka, she gave him a stern look, causing his smirk to vanish.
"Honestly baka, you're such a horn dog! Aki will be up any minute, so put your little sexual fantasies back in your pants and get up and make breakfast, understood?" Asuka told him firmly.
Shinji could only weakly nod and groaned in disappointment, as another opportunity to have 'fun' with his hot and sexy redheaded wife having passed by. Asuka, seeing his disappointment, chuckled in amusement before smirking herself and leaning down next to his ear.
"If you behave like a good boy then we'll have some fun later tonight, ok?" Asuka whispered, even giving his ear a playful quick lick which made Shinji gasp slightly before Asuka quickly getting off him and out of bed.
Eventually the morning routine started for the two, Asuka taking a quick morning shower while Shinji was preparing breakfast which, by the time Asuka was done and out, was all set on the table. As Asuka came back into the kitchen she was surprised that one little person was still not with them.
"Aki still isn't up yet?" Asuka asked Shinji, who shook his head.
"Maybe she really is finally giving us a break." Shinji chuckled as he put a full plate of food down on the table. "Also last night she seemed more tired than usual." Shinji finished saying while remembering the night before when Aki didn't even put up a fight or even a complaint when it came to her bath and brushing her teeth.
"Well, she needs to get up now or she'll miss breakfast." Asuka told her husband, giving him a knowing look. "It's your turn to wake her up."
"Wh..what no way it's definitely your turn." Shinji argued back. "You just don't want to be the bad guy today."
"No, it's definitely your turn today, baka!" Asuka said.
"No, it's not!" Shinji countered.
"Is too!"
"Is not!"
Eventually both adult realised that this wasn't working, both sighed in unison before giving each other a knowing look.
"Rock paper scissors." Asuka stated.
"Yeah, rock paper scissors then." Shinji agreed walking closer to Asuka before both of them readied themselves into a stance.
""Ok one, two, three, rock, paper, scissors..GO!"" Shinji and Asuka said in sync with them finishing with their choice, with the result in Shinji's favour this time as he had chosen paper while Asuka unfortunately had chosen rock.
"Ooh darn it!" Asuka grumbled in defeat.
Shinji gave his wife an apologetic look for winning this time before Asuka sighed, making her way to Aki's room, all but hoping and praying that her little sunshine won't be grumpy upon being woken up.
Arriving at Aki's bedroom door, Asuka knocked a few times. "Aki, Schätzchen, it's time to get up now."
Not receiving a response after a long delay, Asuka opened Aki's door and saw that Aki was still in bed with the bed covers wrapped around her, the room still dark due to the curtains being closed.
Asuka made her way into the room, all while navigating around the mess of clothes, toys and pictures, Asuka opened the bedroom curtains with the bright morning light illuminating the room.
"Come on Schätzchen, it's really time to get up now." Asuka said gently and made her way next to the bed. "Come on now. Papa's already finished making breakfast." Asuka finished saying while she gently shook the little girl awake.
Asuka finally got a response as Aki slowly opened her eyes but she also noticed that the girl was quite flushed in the face.
"Ahh..Mama?…(cough)" Aki weakly said while she very slowly sat up on the bed while also sniffing her nose. All of which set off alarm bells for Asuka. Placing a hand on Aki's forehead, Asuka felt how hot her baby was and knew she had to get the medial expert.
"Shinji! SHINJI! COME QUICK!" Asuka shouted worriedly and as expected Shinji came rushing in in a matter of seconds and saw the look on Asuka's face and also seeing the state of his little girl.

"It's just a cold." Shinji stated.
"Wha..what!? A cold!?" Asuka said, flabbergasted at Shinji's answer. "Are you one hundred percent sure it's just a cold?" Asuka demanded to know. "I mean she's burning up badly and is barely able to move, and she said she feels dizzy and coughing a lot as well and.." Asuka rambled on till Shinji wrapped his arms around her to ease the young worried mother.
"Yeah, I'm completely sure it's a cold, although it is a little bit of a severe one." Shinji admitted although immediately regretted saying the last part as he felt Asuka tense up. "But don't worry, I gave Aki a strong cold medicine and put a wet cloth on her head to help with the fever."
"And here I thought Japanese just exaggerated how bad their colds were to get out of work." Asuka mumbled out, which Shinji just chuckled at. They held each other for a minute before Asuka backed off slightly to look at her husbands face.
"Is..is there something I can do for Aki?" Asuka asked her husband honestly.
"Well, she's resting now but if you want you can take charge of giving her the cold medicine when she needs it." Shinji told her, knowing that Asuka would want to be with Aki during this time more than ever.
Just as Asuka nodded to him, the door to Aki's room opened up, revealing the Aki in her pink nightgown, holding Kiko in her arm.
"Mama..(cough)..Papa?" Aki called out to which both parents turned to her, Asuka picking up her daughter in her arms.
"Honey, what are you doing up and out of bed?" Shinji asked all concerned, knowing that she should be resting giving her condition.
Aki just pouted at that. "It's boring just staying in bed (cough). Plus I'm much better now..(sneeze), (sneeze)" Aki sneezed out twice which resulted in a bit of snot coming out of her nose that the little girl wiped with her other arm.
"Yeah, nice try honey, you're sick and you definitely need your rest." Shinji told his little girl who looked disappointed that she would be stuck in bed for awhile. "But Mama here will be with you all the time so that you won't be bored or lonely ok?" Shinji finished as he quickly gave Asuka a look which she nodded in thanks.
"Really? (cough)" Aki asked.
"That's right, Schätzchen. We can still do fun stuff while you're still in bed like drawing, colouring, playing with your toys and maybe we can create a new and unique bedtime story, ok?" Asuka told her daughter, while still holding her as she walked back into Aki's room.
Shinji looked as Asuka put Aki back into bed and knew that his daughter was in perfect hands.

The following days went on and thankfully Aki had gotten better with each day. Unfortunately for both adults was that they caught Aki's cold. While it wasn't as severe as Aki's was as they were not bedridden and thus able to move around normally, it was still none the less a hassle for both of them.
"Darn it, I still can't taste anything yet. Damn cold." Asuka grumbled as she continued to eat her soup, sniffing her stuffed nose at the kitchen table.
"Let's just be thankful that we got the le..le (sneeze)..ah less severe cold from her." Shinji said to her, slightly groggy.
"Mama, Papa I got the tissue you asked for!" Aki called out as she ran into the kitchen holding the box of tissues paper.
"Thank you Schätzchen (cough)." Asuka thanked her daughter while also stroking her hair.
Despite having caught Aki's cold and the hassle of it was for both of them, both Asuka do Shinji silently agreed that it was worth it since Aki was fully alright now due to the love and care they gave her.
