Summary:

Aki Ikari, tired from having gotten up earlier searches for a suitable place to nap.

"Nap Time"

Aki yawned deeply once again for the umpteenth time this morning as she continued to try and draw and colour her pictures as she sat on the garden table. Even as she tried to continue she felt her eyelids grow heavy and the urge to give in to the slumber was tempting.

The reason why she felt so tired was due to having woken up much earlier than usual in the early hours of the morning because of an unexpected small and minor earthquake that had startled the little girl from her slumber. Before, Aki would go straight to her parent's room after experiencing something like that, but having now gotten used to such things, she didn't charge or barge into her parent's room nor did she go back to sleep.

Instead throughout the early morning, she proceeded to play with her toys, read her favourite books and even went outside and watched the sunrise on a new day on top of the house without letting her mama and papa ever know. If they did then she would get in trouble since she was still not allowed to be on the roof.

So by the time her parents woke up, Aki had done most of everything she would normally do in a day. As her mama and papa continued to do their daily chores as well as clean up the messes around the house caused by the tiny earthquake, Aki struggled to keep her eyes open but eventually she lost the battle and laid her head on the table and closed her eyes.

"Hey Schätzchen, Schätzchen." The voice of her mama and a gentle shake alerted Aki, sitting up and opening her eyes to see her mother giving her a warm smile.

"Err, Mama?" Aki said a bit groggy, obviously tired and a tiny bit annoyed about having her potential sleep disturbed.

"Hey, Aki, if you are that tired then why don't you take a nap in your room," Asuka said to her daughter.

"Ooh Mama, it's not bedtime yet," Aki whined. Her little mind believed that taking a nap in her room, in her bed meant bedtime.

Asuka chuckled at that but didn't try to correct her daughter. "Well, if you don't want to sleep in your bed then why don't you find a better place to nap? Sleeping on the garden table isn't the best place to do that, Schätzchen."

Aki only nodded to her Mama before walking off with her doll Kiko in toll. Now taking her mother's words to heart Aki had to find a place to nap, but where exactly?

Still groggy Aki looked out to the garden and her eyes saw their tree. Walking over to it Aki sat down underneath its shade and lean back and rested against the tree trunk. It seem like she was about to drift off into dreamland when she heard it. That annoying sound from those bugs made, those ci..ci.. whatever they were.

She remembered when some time ago that she once used her papa's fishing nets to catch one, in an attempt to silence the noise. Unfortunately for her, after presenting the bug to her parents, who were understandably freaked out when the bug was accidentally let loose in the house (which took a long while to finally get it out of the house), they told her that they were too many of the same type of bug to stop the noise, much to her disappointment.

Grumbling in annoyance, Aki got up to find another place to nap. Looking around she saw their greenhouse and thought to maybe try there. Going inside, Aki noticed that the bug sounds weren't soo loud here. But she had another problem, there wasn't anywhere here that looked comfortable to lay down on plus the sun's rays on the glass made it unbearable. Grumbling again, Aki looked around and her eyes landed on the chicken coop.

"Maybe the Chickies wouldn't mind me in their home to nap?" Aki wondered and decided to take a chance.

Upon arriving, Aki looked inside the coop and saw the chickens resting as the little girl popped her head in their coop. The chickens, upon seeing the intruder, were now wide awake but they still did not move and were staring at the brown-haired girl.

"Hi, little chickies! Can I nap here?" Aki asked the chickens.

Unfortunately, the response from the birds was one of them getting up and flapping their wings repeatedly which startled Aki, making her back well away from the coop.

"Hey, you didn't need to be rude!" Aki argued back at the bird but took the hint that she wasn't welcome in the chickie's home.

Aki was getting frustrated now as she was tired and wanted to sleep. Looking around again, Aki saw the side of the family's pickup truck and she remembered the time when she easily fell asleep in her child seat. Going over to the truck, Aki tried to open the car's door, but it wouldn't budge and she remembered that mama and papa had the keys to open it.

Huffing in disappointment, Aki, along with her Kiko in hand, decided to go into the house to find a place to sleep. Walking in, she looked around and tried to look for any place that would allow her to nap. Seeing the entrance to the bathroom a thought came to her little mind and when inside she looked at the tub, her mortal enemy.

"Hehe, jokes on Mr Tub, I'm not having a have a bath today," Aki said mighty to the inanimate bathtub before climbing in it and trying to get comfortable. Unfortunately again for Aki, she couldn't do so, the instinctive fear that her parents might come in and seize the opportunity to fill up the bath with water prevented her from falling asleep.

Grumbling at another failed chance to nap, Aki got out, but not before she gave the bathtub a mean glare.

"You win this time, Mr Tub," Aki said before stomping out of the bathroom. As she reached the living room, she looked around again for some place to nap and saw the only comfortable place was the couch. Before she could even take a step towards it her mama came back into the house and saw Aki still walking around.

"Schätzchen, did you already take a nap?" Asuka asked, wondering if Aki had already had a quick power nap.

Aki's response was to shake her head. "I can't find a good place to nap, Mama," Aki whined. "I tried to nap under the tree but those bugs won't shut up, I went in the greenhouse but it was too hot, I tried with the chickies but they shooed me away, I tried the car but I could get in it and I even tried to nap in the tub," Aki finished explaining her short adventure before letting out a big yawn.

Her mama's response to all that was to chuckle, which slightly annoyed Aki. Asuka then walked over to the couch before sitting down on it and gesturing for Aki to come to her. Wordlessly Aki complied and as she sat down, her mama made her lean over and gently put the girl's head on her lap.

"There you go Schätzchen. Now you can take a nap," Asuka told her daughter, stroking her hair gently and even humming softly to help ease Aki into slumber. It was working as all too soon Aki drifted off into dreamland.

A few minutes later Shinji came back into the house, having finished his share of the chores and saw his two girls on the couch, only noticing Aki sleeping when Asuka gave a "keep silent" gesture with her hand. Walking over, Shinji chuckled softly to not wake his daughter up.

"You do know that her having a nap now means she's gonna be a terror later this evening right?" Shinji whispered to his wife.

"I know. But it's a good thing that it's your turn to tuck her in later isn't it?" Asuka whispered back with an all too knowing grin.

End.
