The One Who Came Back
Chapter 16: Rage
Tuare spent most of her time with the other employees at the back of the mansion. Something common to all is to speak ill of their bosses, and no one had anything good to say about the nobles who frequented the Fleur-de-Lis.
Between conversations, Tuare discovered how rotten the nobility was here too. That never changed: those with power abused those less fortunate. That's how it was with her, that's how it was everywhere, except in the Sorcerer Kingdom, there those kinds of people would be skinned alive. It seemed to comfort Tuare, knowing that the Sorcerer King would rule them all in the future. That's when she heard the roar.
"Sebas, what did they do to you?"
The host looked at the ambassador's back, but something was wrong: his silhouette had gotten bigger, there were horns, there was a tail and, above all, there was the feeling of imminent death.
"Kill, kill that thing!", shouted the nobleman to the security guards who accompanied them.
As they approached, there was a quick hand movement and then the security guards had turned into smears on the wall. The host's sphincter released, prompting him to run, and he ran as fast as he could, barely having time to turn a corner before flames engulfed the hall.
Screams followed him, as well as the sound of doors being ripped off, men crying like children before being silenced, and sweltering heat. The host came across a maid running the wrong way, perhaps she would give him a few seconds to get to his office.
"A little more, just a little more!", huffed the man, until he managed to close the secret door of what appeared to be a safe.
Then he heard the thump and scrape on metal. "He'll never get through there", he thought, before seeing the door being ripped off with just the force of his fingers.
"N-No please, don't k-kill me!", pleaded the noble.
The creature approached slowly, ready to rip the man's head off, when a voice was heard.
"We need him alive", Tuare said. Her voice didn't waver. She had never seen Sebas like this before, and she knew it was him. She needed him to stop.
"We need him to tell us everything. If we can't get the information here, there are people who can at home, but he needs to be alive by then!", Tuare was changing, she had more confidence, she was growing.
"Sir, as you can see, I can't hold him much longer, not if you don't help. We need information", said the maid while turning her attention to the terrified man.
"EVERYTHING, I'LL TELL YOU EVERYTHING! JUST DON'T LET HIM CATCH ME!", screamed the host hysterically.
"Very well. Have you seen this person?"
"What? No! Wait... I've seen him! He found a lost black card, came here a week before we found out he didn't even have money for drinks."
"When?"
"Months ago, before the fire! Oh, by the Four, the mansion is going to burn down again!"
A roar came from Sebas.
"I think you should be concerned about what will happen to you if you don't answer everything", warned Tuare.
The man swallowed hard.
"He came, he had a guest card, he only stayed in the entrance hall, he never went up to the rooms or the games. We didn't have time to check further, it was a hell of a week, every day something closed the house before the special clients arrived, that is until the fire started... Oh, fuck, he was the one, he was the one who did something! But how does someone clog a sewer or dry a well?"
"He never went to the children? Is that true?", Tuare asked, addressing one of the girls who were standing by the door.
While Tuare desperately looked for Sebas on the lower floors and found him in a rage, slaughtering the nobles and security guards that were in that place, all the children ran to the same room. The maid knew what they had done to them, the horror they had gone through. Sebas, in his fury, had not harmed them, but they would die if they stayed there, so Tuare calmly called out to them.
"Hello, my name is Tuareninya, I'm here to help! Don't be afraid, we came to save you"
"Are you heroes?" asked one of the children as she stared at Sebas who was back in the hallway.
"No" replied Tuare "we just want to help".
"That's good! Will you protect us from the hero?"
"We'll protect you from anything that wants to hurt you."
"Is he coming with us?" the child pointed at Sebas.
"Are you afraid of him? He doesn't need to come along now."
"NO! HE HAS TO COME WITH US, PROTECT US!"
'Sebas looks like a monster covered in blood out of a nightmare. What did they do to these children to the point of asking for this kind of help!?', thought Tuare as she held out her hand.
"Yes, he will along and protect you."
Then they all ran and clung to Tuare's skirts. The protection ring would help them pass through the flames, but they would have to be quick and they couldn't stay in the mansion too long, soon everything would be consumed.
When Sebas began to chase the host again, Tuare followed behind, arriving just in time to prevent the dragon butler from devouring him. Now, she was talking to a little girl.
"Did you ever see this man a few months ago? Did he come to you? Did he... do something?"
"No, I never saw him. Few come to us, all old men, except the hero. He told us to wear a mask before entering the room, so as not to see him."
"So he could be that hero?"
"No, the hero has been coming here for many years."
The thought of how long these kids had been going through all this made Tuare's stomach turn.
"Sebas, we need to go, soon the palace guards will arrive! They cannot catch this monster, he must be punished in Nazarick" Tuare whispered so low that only Sebas would be able to hear, while she thought of asking Demiurge for a special favor on how to deal with this worm.
Slowly, Sebas began to change, and then there was the Iron Butler of Nazarick again.
"Sorry if I made you worried Tuare, let's get out of here", 'Lady Shalltear, I have a guest to be attended by Neuronist. Could you please open a gate? Oh! Thank you very much!''. Without ceremony, Sebas hurled the host through the dark portal and that was the last he saw of him.
Inside the palace, panic was setting in.
"Your Majesty can't go out like this!", shouted the Prime Minister as he ran after the Queen.
"Of course I can! I'm the goddamn Queen and you woke me up in the middle of the night to say the ambassador went to a brothel in the middle of the upscale district which it's now ON FIRE!"
"The knights are heading there! The mansion is not close to other buildings, the fire will not spread."
"THAT ISN'T THE FUCKING ISSUE!" cried the Queen. She stopped, took a deep breath and explained.
"I felt, I felt the fury of a dragon, that tremor from before. I know who's responsible for it, I just can't imagine what they did to piss him off so much. What's in there, Prime Minister?"
"I don't know, my lady. I was never invited, and even if I was, I abandoned my carnal desires many years ago. The place has been investigated before, it seems to be just an exclusive brothel for the rich and powerful. I'm just the Prime-Minister, I don't earn enough or have contacts to be a customer of that place."
The Queen snorted. Surely someone wanted to hide something.
"I need to go there, prepare an escort. If the ambassador died in a fire, I need to be ready to offer my head in exchange."
The entire mansion was already burning, and when the fire went out, there would be nothing left. Dozens of employees half naked or in full uniform littered the streets and part of the garden, along with a hundred more onlookers. The entourage had to make way to approach.
Forming a cordon of isolation, the Queen was able to witness the slow walk of a silhouette that came from the mansion engulfed by the flames towards her.
The Queen shouldn't have gotten out of her carriage, being so close to people instills something in them. There is always some disgruntled noble, and all it takes is an opportunity to do something.
The voice of a minor noble began to be heard from the crowd, instilling anger against royalty and pressuring the guards to take action. There were too many people, and then someone threw a rock at the Queen, not caring that she wouldn't be hurt by it, but that the image would be the trigger for a revolt.
But the boulder never hit her, it was stopped by the hands of someone wearing full armor. The Adamantite Adventurer Cerabrate.
"Hello, Queen Draudellion, it's always a pleasure to meet you like this", Cerabrate said nonchalantly as he crushed the stone with his hand.
"Y-You're back..." - 'No, of all people, not him!'
