Chapter 16
"I appreciate the update little one. Please let me know if you need anything from us," Diana said.
"I will let you know," Kara promised and with that the phone call ended. The blonde turned back to an unconscious Marie, who was strapped down to a bed in the Tower's Med Bay. NCPD let them take her since Marie was labeled as a missing ARGUS agent. The police promised to let them know about the bomb vest as soon as they had something.
"So, what do you think?" Nia asked.
"Hopefully J'onn can reach her. Otherwise, I'm not sure. Any word from Alex?" Kara wanted to know.
"They're following Matt. Needless to say, 'Kate Kane's' visit certainly rattled his cage. Nyssa and Kelly are staying with M'gann to not arouse suspicion," Dreamer explained. Her friend nodded. That's when J'onn walked into the Med Bay.
"Lena and Brainy found a hole in L Corp's firewall. They've plugged it but are also tracing the hacker. They're going to be awhile," he told them.
"Do they know who the hacker is?" Nia wondered.
"That will be easier to determine once they trace it back to the source. Are we ready?" The Martian wanted to know.
"As we'll ever be. Do you think this'll work?" Kara was nervous. What they were trying was a bit different than what they tried on Mary.
"Despite being under the control of hypnosis and unconscious, I was able to enter Mary's head, with little difficulty. The difference is now, I have Dreamer to help," J'onn winked. Nia climbed up on the bed next to Marie and lay down. The Martian moved in between the beds and placed his left fingertips on Marie's temple and his right fingertips on Nia's temple. He'd only seen his father do this once before and it was never between a human and a Naltorian, but he needed to create a bridge for Nia to cross from her body and into Marie's. Kara watched as her two friends closed their eyes and hoped that this was going to work. They were running out of options.
"Nia?" J'onn asked. He was standing in a stark white room that seemed to have no doors or windows or a way in or out.
"Right here?" Dreamer smiled as she materialized.
"It seems to have worked. I'm not sure how long I can hold it, so let's see what we can find," he told her. They moved around the space, trying to find a way in.
"Do you hear that?" Nia asked after a few moments.
"Doesn't that sound like a heart monitor?" He frowned, not sure why they would be hearing that.
"It does. Is that normal?" She wanted to know.
"With hypnosis, nothing is normal. Let's follow it and see if it gets louder," he suggested. He was hoping that it would lead them to a door or opening. They moved around until they discovered the way that seemed to be giving them the most noise. The further they went, the louder the noise and the white background grew fuzzy before shifting into what seemed like a hospital room.
"This must have been when she had her accident. That was quite a while ago," Nia commented.
"Seems like an odd place to take us but then again it could be a cover for something else," J'onn shrugged. They moved through the room and the noise faded as the scene changed. They found themselves inside what seemed like Marie's apartment. There they found her sitting on her couch, just staring off into nothingness.
"Marie?" Nia tried, hoping for an answer. She got one but it was not super helpful as it was in the language she'd been shouting earlier.
"We need a way to translate what she is saying," Nia said. J'onn frowned and then said,
"I might be able to get her to vocalize it so you can record what she's saying. I need to send you back to try though."
"Let's do it," Nia nodded.
