Chapter 18
I don't want to do this. I don't want to do this. They are trying to kill me. Must fight. Must fight. I'm the only one who can free Todd. They say I can free him, but I don't believe them. I have let down my Princess. I have let down my Queen. Diana, forgive me for what I am about to do. Mother, forgive me. Kara, forgive me.
I am part of a nation of women, dedicated to my sisters, to our gods, and to the peace that is humankind's right. Granted life by Gaea, the goddesses, and the souls of women past, I have been gifted with the mission to unite the people of our world with love and compassion. I am an Amazon, and I will help save mankind.* May the Gods give me safe passage to Hades.
"She fully intended to detonate that vest," Kara heaved a sigh.
"She thought it was the only way to save Agent Smith. She picked a spot that would not kill a lot of innocent civilians. Despite the trickery put on her by Enigma, Marie was fighting the entire time. Still, something is blocking me from freeing her," J'onn frowned. Before Kara could say anything, the comms crackled to life and Alex's voice came over the earpieces.
"We just saw Matt enter a motel room. Mary let him in."
"Where are you?" Kara responded. Alex quickly gave her the address and the blonde left the Tower. J'onn returned to Nia. He had to bring her up to speed.
Kara landed near her sister's vehicle and climbed into the back seat. The vehicle was across the parking lot from the motel room they'd been keeping an eye on. The redhead was glad to see her.
"We might be able to clear up some stuff if we can get Mary away from these creeps," Alex said from the front passenger seat.
"J'onn thinks that Enigma is using magic on top of the hypnotism," Kara told her.
"That's just what we need," former DEO Agent Julio Gonzalez shook his head. He was sitting in the driver's seat.
"Not ideal but we need to get them all. We need to make sure that Enigma is in that room," former DEO Agent Jim Schwartz said. He was sitting next to Kara in the back seat.
"Where's the backup?" The blonde asked.
"We've got two vehicles. One is at the back entrance to the motel lot and the other is out on the street out front. Each one had four agents each. It's not a lot but it's what we've got," Gonzalez told her.
"All right, let me X-ray the rooms. We'll see how many people we're dealing with. Is there a back way out of the motel room?" Kara wanted to know.
"They'd have to squeeze their way out a tiny bathroom window. So, the only way out is through the front door," Alex told her. Kara nodded and quickly used her X-ray vision to scan the room which her sister pointed out.
"We've got two people in the motel room you mentioned and two next door. Doesn't seem like the whole crew," Supergirl frowned.
"You think they'll give us the others' locations?" Agent Schwartz didn't seem to believe his own words.
"Yeah, I doubt it," Gonzalez said.
"So how do we play this?" Kara wondered.
"I say we knock on the door, take Matt into custody. We pretend to not know who Mary is and hope she leads the other guys to Enigma. I can put a call into ARGUS for more backup," Alex offered.
"Let's do that. Matt will know Alex and they are going to panic if Supergirl comes to the door," the blonde figured.
"What are we arresting Matt for? We have to make this look good," Schwartz reminded them.
"Tell him that Marie was picked up and that she fingered him," Alex said.
"They'll know that's a lie," Gonzalez told her.
"Yes, but they won't be able to tell us why they know it isn't true," the redhead chuckled.
"Matt is the weak link. We exploit that and maybe, just maybe, we get lucky," Kara said.
"Yeah, well I'm not cleaning up the back seat when he sees Supergirl sitting there," Schwartz teased.
