Hello Scrolls and Nazarins, Mr.Bones bringing another interlude from my fanfic: The One Who Came Back.
The Guardians have many doubts with Yuri Alpha and Ainz wants to know what is in that book that interested Pleiade so much.
With you the one who came back
Interlude 6
Yuri Alpha arrived through a portal directly in front of the Great Tomb, and upon entering, she noticed that the room was filled with vampire brides and other creatures guarding the place, which meant Shalltear was not there. Only one thing would remove her from her post: a mission from her master. If nothing more serious had arisen in the past few hours, the search for the Traveler was the priority.
Lord Ainz had mentioned the guardians observing through the remote mirror, so it wasn't just one or two of them. They were probably all there. Yuri could prepare herself for an interrogation. Despite being her superiors, some of them could be quite emotional in their assessments, so her answers would need to be well-thought-out. Fortunately, her master, who could anticipate everything, asked for her reports to be as simple as possible. It was so good to have a Master like that.
Passing through the doors, the maid reached the first teleportation point.
"Hello, Yuri!"
"Good afternoon, Aureole. I have a meeting with Ainz-sama."
"Yes, Ainz-sama will receive you in the throne room. The Floor Guardians and the Overseer are already waiting for you."
"Thank you, sister. I brought something for you."
"A gift! Oh, I eagerly await your visit, sister. See you soon!"
A teleportation glow later, and Yuri was on the floor of the Throne Room. After a short walk, she arrived at the location where the doors opened for her passage.
All the Guardians were present and conversing, and when she entered, their gazes immediately turned to her.
"Good afternoon, esteemed Guardians. Good afternoon, Lady Overseer."
"Good afternoon, Yuri Alpha," they all greeted in their own way.
"Please come closer. We would like to have a conversation with you while we await Ainz-sama," the Archdemon spoke.
"As you wish, Lord Demiurge."
"You see, during your... surveillance, we realized that perhaps you were not the best choice to track the Traveler."
"Yes, Lord Demiurge, I also noticed that, but as it was a direct order from my master to follow him, I couldn't contradict his decision."
"As you say, it has brought us several doubts. Why did he choose you? What lies behind this decision? What are the unfathomable paths of our master's mind? These are things we need to discover in order to better serve him."
"Perhaps he wanted to show me how deficient I am in certain tasks, and he will probably reprimand me for it," she said with a determined look."
"Ja und nein," said Pandora's Actor, who was leaning against a pillar out of sight until now. "I believe mein Vater always has three or four reasons for each decision he makes. In this case, it could indeed be to demonstrate that there is an area where the fraulein can dedicate herself."
"I apologize, Lord Pandora, but do you think Lord Ainz wants me to become a... ninja?"
"Nein, nein, nein... not exactly, but I think he wants us to see our weaknesses and cover them if necessary, to improve ourselves and grow in our abilities. Additionally, the second reason for having you walking the streets is that it will work wonders for the relationship between the population and the administration."
"Do you really think that is an important aspect, Pandora's Actor? After all, they already seem to accept our rule," Albedo said in a dissatisfied tone.
"They do accept our rule, yes, because we have provided an unprecedented improvement in their quality of life. But having direct interaction with government agents will stimulate, mein lieber, support for decisions that may be controversial, such as the destruction of the capital, Re-Estize, and the other cities that did not surrender. This will undermine any attempts of uprising by external agitators."
"Ah! Our master, how wise he is in his decisions," Albedo said with sighs, and everyone agreed.
At that moment, the Overlord entered the Hall.
"Why is everyone looking at me like that?" the Supreme Being thought.
Then everyone fell to their knees.
"Ahann! Let's begin. We can skip the formalities, Albedo. Please rise."
"As you wish, Ainz-sama."
"It seems you had a busy day, Yuri Alpha."
"Yes, Lord Ainz. Following the Traveler was a... challenge. Now I understand where I need to improve."
"Alright, humm, just as I desired, ahan! As we all noticed, the Traveler was invisible to us, so knowing a bit more about his activities is important."
"Yes, Ainz-sama. I believe the Traveler was assessing us."
"Is that so?"
"Yes, I saw him talking to the merchants, sometimes close enough to overhear parts of the conversation. Generally, it was about their lives, interactions with neighbors of different races, and their opinions about the Sorcerer Kingdom."
"And?"
"And the responses were positive. The merchants were quite enthusiastic, while some newcomers seemed cautious but had no complaints."
"So it seems the visitor assessed us positively... Yuri, you mentioned buying a book that seemed to be of interest to the Traveler. What is it about?"
"Well..." Yuri blushed a bit, " it's a book for the common people, a new trend now that citizens are learning to read. It's about the Hero Momon and his adventures."
"An adventure book about me and Narberal, I mean Nabe? Hmm, it must be natural for stories to be written about us."
"No, Ainz-sama. It's only about the hero Momon. The adventurer Nabe is separated from the story in the beginning to take care of the city while you go on your adventures."
"Why is that?"
"I think it's so that the readers can put themselves in the place of the characters encountered along the way, who always seem to be farmers, adventurers, or princesses wanting to... ahan! Thank the hero Momon for incredible rescues, in a more explicitly... AHAMM! In a more explicitly intimate manner."
"INTIMATE! HOW ABSURD! A book where you can imagine yourself with Ainz-sa… I mean Momon, is utterly absurd!", Albedo exclaimed, and it was the first time Shalltear agreed, vigorously nodding her head.
"Yuri Alpha, I demand a copy of that book immediately. I want to assess it personally. I want the name of the author, where it's sold, and if there are other volumes" the Succubus ordered while Shalltear nodded frantically and took notes with Yuri on all the information she provided.
Aura and Mare didn't understand what it was all about, and Ainz's emotional suppressor shone so brightly that if it were visible, it could illuminate the entire hall.
