The One Who Came Back

Interlude 7

The Great Library of Ashurbanipal is the repository of all the knowledge accumulated by the Supreme Beings; within its walls lies literally all human knowledge. When the Tomb still inhabited the world of Yggdrasil, the Library was merely the internet access room directly connected to the Unipedia, the online library, where collaborative work gathered, cataloged, and verified the accuracy of information and data from all possible fields of knowledge.

In their native world, the Library itself was a standard room in the guilds, configurable for aesthetic preferences of its users. Thus, the one belonging to Ainz Ooal Gown appeared as a classical library, with shelves that seemed to extend endlessly. Inside were 42 specific rooms where each user could organize and store materials to their liking. These rooms were the only invulnerable places to invasion, safeguarding members' personal data. In the event the guild was taken over, these rooms would be transported to the common user access area.

After the world transfer, the Library underwent the same transformation as spells; its interior space became real, making it larger inside than outside, akin to pocket dimensions. All the internet-held information transformed into tomes on its shelves, and users' restricted rooms gained physical form.

While their master conversed with the Traveler in the office, this was where the Guardians were seeking information about the Supreme Being they couldn't remember. Shalltear led the group, a new role for her. Few visited the library, besides the twins and Cocytus, so the petite vampire frequented it most after Mare.

"Hello again, Tittus-arinsu!"

"Hello, Miss Shalltear. I didn't expect the Guardians so soon."

"We've come to seek information about the Twenty-Seventh Supreme Being."

"According to records, aside from their name, nothing else is available."

"And in Lord Peroroncino's private section?"

"No specific records. Perhaps in the Restricted Area, but I don't have access to the catalog, as you know."

"No problem, I know what to look for." Now, everyone was impressed. Shalltear Bloodfallen knew more than the three geniuses of Nazarick!

They proceeded down the corridor to a circular room with access to 42 doors, each bearing the emblem of a Supreme Being, all locked.

Shalltear headed to the door with Peroroncino's symbol.

"Let's go in, everyone can fit without a problem-arinsu."

The Guardians found themselves gazing at a part of Nazarick they had never entered; it wasn't much different from the library itself, but it held special significance for them.

"I think what we're looking for should be on Lord Peroroncino's desk," Shalltear announced.

"What. Are. We. Looking. For?"

"A diary, Cocytus."

"Lord Peroroncino had a diary?" Aura asked absentmindedly as she walked down one of the corridors with Mare and retrieved a volume from the shelf.

"NO! No, no, no, come here!" Shalltear yelled, snatching the book from the elves' hands.

"You're too young for this."

"We're 70 years old."

"Maybe when you're 120, you can read this kind of thing, but for now, no snooping," she said while dragging the youths by their hands. "Lord Pero didn't have a diary, but someone asked him to keep one. Here, the Diary of the Supreme Being Variable Talisman."

"Why would the Supreme Being Variable Talisman have a diary, Fraulein?"

"I've read some of it, actually, I've read a bit of everything in this restricted area, except what's in Lord Peroroncino's personal drawer, that remains locked even for me. But the diary was made by Lord Variable for something called 'medicalrecommendation.' He seemed to suffer from a condition called bipolarity, so for some reason, he kept a record of his mood swings and his daily life. He asked my creator to take care of the diary because he believed he might destroy it in a fit of anger."

"The Supreme Beings with their infinite powers were truly terrifying," Mare murmured.

"Here, I found it!" Shalltear opened the diary and flipped through it. "No, no, here it already mentions the invasion. Lord Touch Me becomes Champion. Further back, 'Today we conquered the Tomb.' Further ahead, I found it!"

"August 25, 2132."

"Today, I feel joyful, everything seems to be going well. A new member joined the guild, he's a Tank and Shaman type, a Wendigo named Totally Wild. I haven't spoken to him yet, I hope he likes us."

"After a few pages, he mentions it again."

"October 31, 2132."

"I know I'm supposed to be happy, but I can't. I stayed depressed in a corner the whole party. Wild came to talk to me, he's nice, kept me company. The others are nice too."

"Then comes this."

"November 16, 2132."

"DAMN IT! THE NEWBIE STILL HASN'T SHOWN UP AFTER THEY AMBUSHED HIM. EVERYTHING ABOUT HIM HAS DISAPPEARED, EVERY BIT OF INFORMATION. THAT DAMN GUY MUST'VE DELETED HIS ACCOUNT. ONLY HIS LOCKED ROOM REMAINS. IF I SEE TW AGAIN, I'LL WIPE HIM OUT!"

"And that's it, the only records of the existence of the twenty-seventh Supreme Being.

"Hmm! This confirms the existence of the Supreme Being called Totally Wild. If something happened to him, it might have erased his existence for us as a consequence, but it doesn't confirm if that's the same Supreme Being," Demiurge analyzed.

"We need to protect Ainz-sama. Even if the Traveler is who he claims to be, we still don't know what he experienced in this world, how his mind changed when he became, UGH! Human." Albedo said, swallowing the last word with disgust. Everyone agreed they needed to be cautious.

Thus, the Guardians made their way to the office, arriving moments before the door opened and they heard about the million-year plan and what seemed to be their nemesis, the "Accursed Seraphim."

"'We need to prepare.'" everyone thought.
