Someone betrays Nazarick.

The One Who Came Back
Chapter 41: Betrayal
" Pan! Pan! Pan ran ran ran ran pan! Pan pan ran ran ran pan! Pan pan ran ran ran pan! Wild thing! Pan ran..."
"You still sing that?" Ainz questioned Wild as they walked side by side.
"It was my theme song; people used to tremble when they heard it!"
"And it spoiled the element of surprise every time... ", Ainz sighed internally , "So, how have your days been here?" the Supreme Being asked the human accompanying him.
"Good, it's been a while since I've rested so well, Your Majesty. I've almost grown accustomed to the killer aura", TW replied, looking over his shoulder and seeing Albedo and Demiurge following them.
"It should lessen over time, Wild."
"I wonder how long that will take".
"Are you sure you don't want to sleep in your old room?" The pressure of the aura was so strong that even Ainz could feel it.
"No, no, I'm fine living on the sixth floor. A cabin is the most I can ask for", the pressure didn't diminish.
"And the twins, have they come to talk to you?"
"Not yet, but it seems I'm being followed."
"That seems rather obvious", Ainz pointed with his bony thumb to the pair following them.
"Oh no, not them, something different, I don't know who it is, but they come at regular intervals." Wild clarified to the Supreme Being through mental communication.
"Do you need a bodyguard? Do you want someone to investigate?"
"Nah, anyone wanting to harm me is probably working for one of the Guardians, I need to sort this out."
"If you need help, contact me." "Very well, Wild. We've reached my office; I hope this conversation has been helpful. We'll see each other again on another occasion."
"I'm thankful for your time, Ainz-sama." TW said, bowing and leaving.
"Albedo and Demiurge, thank you for offering to accompany me. Is there anything else to discuss?"
"Not Ainz-sama, being in your presence was enough to bring me joy". Albedo Said, "but unfortunately, there is a matter that requires my attention."
"I also bid you farewell here, Ainz-sama." Demiurge affirmed, then turned on his heels and followed Albedo in the same direction TW had gone a few seconds ago.
"I hope they don't kill him." Ainz thought, resigning himself.
TW continued down the corridor humming the old melody. After a while, he arrived at the bar.
"Hello, Piki", TW said to the sous-chef bartender.
"Good evening, Mr. Wild. I see you've come to enjoy my skills again."
"Of course, I've never seen anyone make cocktails like you."
"I take pride in my work. Do you have a preference?"
"Surprise me, and please prepare two more drinks."
After a few moments, Albedo and Demiurge arrived, ready to confront TW.
"Hello, Lord Demiurge, Lady Albedo, care to join me for a drink?"
"Was this one of your premonitions?" Albedo spoke with disdain.
"Just common sense, I knew you'd come sooner or later."
"So you always order three drinks?" Demiurge asked intrigued.
"Always. Please, join me."
Both sat down, but they didn't seem to enjoy each other's company.
"Well, it seems winning the trust of Nazarick members will be difficult."
"It's not because our lord let you live here that we'll like it", the Archdemon said.
"Yes, and rightly so, protecting your lord should be the priority, shouldn't it?! After all, anyone can make mistakes..."
"How dare you question Ainz-sama's decision?" Albedo growled.
"So if his decision is unquestionable, there's no reason for hostility."
"Don't try to confuse us with your mind games", the Succubus shouted.
"I wouldn't do that, especially not with the geniuses of Nazarick."
"DON'T FLATTER US!" now she yelled.
"I apologize."
"You're so annoying."
"I try", TW said with a slight smile.
"So, your intention is to get on our nerves to the point where we do something and fall out of favor with Ainz-sama", Demiurge pointed out.
"You imagine too much; it could simply be because I'm being annoying. Not everything is an elaborate plan... Ah ha! I can see the gears in your head turning, imagining that this is all a plan for you to lower your guard, Demiurge."
The Archdemon settled into the couch with a scowl.
"Are we really that predictable?"
"I know a bit about both of you, well, not both actually, but over these years, I've had visions of stories".
"Visions of the future?" Demiurge asked.
"Not really, but some, like the one about the most loyal and the one who betrayed Nazarick."
Albedo straightened up at the mention of betrayal. Did he know about her anti-Supreme team?
"Even if you know stories from another reality, you can't accuse us of betrayal!" She spoke.
"I'm aware of that; I'm not accusing. You know, your versions are probably different from yourselves, but some might be so similar that it's not a matter of nature but of decisions made, which completely differentiate them from your lives. That's why I can tell this story, like how Demiurge betrayed Nazarick" TW said, pointing at the Archdemon, who stood up at the accusation.
"WHAT NONSENSE!!!"
Calm down, calm down. Like I said, I'm not accusing; I just want to show that certain decisions have consequences, and we can learn from them. I can continue? Okay, it starts like this."
"Betrayal:
Months after Nazarick's arrival in the new world, Lord Ainz was growing impatient. The lack of information about potential threats left him anxious.
Capitalizing on his master's concerns, Lord Demiurges proposed the formation of a search team strong enough to confront a player should one appear.
Lord Ainz, convinced of imminent danger, agreed to such a team, unaware of the hidden intentions of his guardian. Driven by contempt for his creator, Demiurges intended to annihilate even other Supreme Beings who might appear.
This team hunted and killed the Godkins it found, maintaining secrecy. However, a mistake exposed him to an unlikely person.
"You can't do this", Aura said.
"We don't know who could be our enemy."
"They are our creators; this is betrayal, Demiurges!"
"Listen to me, Aura, they abandoned us, they left."
"You don't know why, Ainz-sama wouldn't agree to this."
"He doesn't need to know."
"But he will know, I won't hide it!"
"Aura, stop! Don't make me..."
"Make you what? I'm stronger than you", Aura said, heading for the coliseum exit, then stopped before a wall of fire.
"Put it out!"
"Not until you listen to me."
"I won't listen to anything from you anymore!" Aura whipped her whip at Demiurge, immobilizing him.
The Demon swelled as he tried to free himself. — "RELEASE ME!" – Demiurge commanded using his Voice of Command.
Aura resisted; she used pheromones to control emotions, and using them on herself to resist mental control was one of the first things she learned to do.
"You will be punished; we can't trust you."
"They betrayed us, YOU WERE BETRAYED, YOUR CREATOR BETRAYE...!"
"DON'T SPEAK OF BUKUBUKUCHAGAMA!" Aura roared, hurling Demiurge against the wall and then running for the open fire exit.
But as she was about to exit, Aura was enveloped in a pillar of fire; the Infernal Flames consumed the small elf until there was almost nothing left.
Mari, who arrived at the end of the fight, witnessed his sister being killed. He even threw himself into the flames to try to save her, only to have half of his body burned.
In his fury, Mari used one of his most aggressive spells, impaling the demon with hundreds of vines and then tearing his body apart.
Demiurges, seeing what he had done, didn't even try to defend himself.
What the residents of Nazarick didn't know was that if an NPC were killed by friendly fire, they could never be resurrected.
Upon learning of Demiurges betrayal, Ainz became even more paranoid. Knowing he couldn't trust his guardians led him to expel them.
Mari was sent to rule over the elves after crushing the Elven King. His personality had changed; he didn't even let them heal his scars. Sometimes he would talk to himself and respond to himself as his sister. The little elf ruled that kingdom with terror and an iron fist.
Cocytus started living with the lizardmen. There, consumed by dishonor, he renounced his swords as a sign that he would never raise his hands against his master. He became a hermit.
Shalltear was sent to the Theocracy. In a week, the place died and became her vampiric realm.
Pandora's Actor became a wandering adventurer under the name Momon.
Gargantua, lacking a mind, sank into the lake on the sixth floor forever.
Victim didn't have spells that could affect Ainz, so he was taken to protect his master in the throne room.
Albedo was allowed to stay in Nazarick because she was closest to her lord, but that was taken from her too. Ainz, growing more suspicious, began to distance her; soon she couldn't even be in the same room.
Ainz started devising numerous plans to defend himself from enemies or friends, real or imaginary.
The servants were forbidden from entering the throne room, and the Pleiades kept permanent guard at the door. Ainz was trapped in his mind due to his paranoia and delusions, choosing to isolate himself from the world.
Albedo was ordered to stay outside the Great Tomb, guarding the entrance. She was to stay there until called.
Years passed, and she maintained her position, hoping her master would need her. After hundreds of years, even the Great Tomb suffered from the elements. The wind shifted the earth walls concealing its structures, burying it. Albedo, unmoving, was covered in dust and dirt, accumulating over time, the dust turned into shell, and then into rock.
Millennia passed, and no one remembered Nazarick anymore; they only knew that if they went to a certain clearing, they would find a series of mounds. Near the center, there would be a rock, and if you pressed your ear to it on a quiet day, you might hear the maiden's voice whisper:
"Ainz-sama."
Albedo concealed it, but tears welled up in her eyes. Demiurge had his hand over his mouth, then he picked up his drink and downed it in one gulp.
"This could never happen; I would never go against my master or my own creator, I would never harm Aura."
"You see, so it couldn't be you."
"A-Ainz-sama isn't like that, a-and friendly fire doesn't kill us permanently... I think", Albedo said in doubt.
"As I said, this is a story to learn from the mistakes of others. Most stories are like that, but here, you learn from versions of yourselves."
Albedo still wasn't ready to disband the search team, but doubts were now hanging in her mind.
"Are all these stories, bad versions of us? Will we always have bad endings?" Demiurge wanted to know.
"No, most of them aren't, some end with you happy, praised by your master, or becoming... a mother", TW said casually, but Albedo almost dropped her drink.
"MOTHER!!!"
"Yes, Lady Albedo, a mother. Would you like to hear this story?"
Albedo merely nodded slightly.
"Piki, three more drinks, please", 'tonight is going to be a long night', "Well, where does this one start?"
"Lady Albedo was in her room, waiting for her beloved..."
...
AUTHOR'S NOTE
As I said this chapter told a version of the biggest myth in the Overlord fandon, the eye behind Shalltear... NO, no no, the second biggest myth I mean, the betrayal of Demiurge.
As you may have noticed the names of Demiurge and Mare are changed, I did this to highlight that they are different versions.
I hope you liked it, next week there are more chapters.
