/I'm doing a timeskip. There's nothing of importance to include in this story before the championship, other than what could be considered filler for this.\

Chapter 5: Tournament and Changing the Plot

It was finally the day the Miami City Tournament was to start.

Osrelios was hanging out at the main entrance of the building, waiting.

Oz watched as Yuya and his friends just got done dealing with that bully guy who uses BattleGuards.

Once the bully walked away, Oz approached them.

"Well, well. If it isn't the walking tomato." Oz said, causing them to turn.

"Ah!" Yuya screamed.

"Pfft." Oz cracked a laugh.

"Oh. Osrelios, you scared me." Yuya said, sighing in relief.

"How you all doing?" Oz asked, as he took off his glasses and began twirling them around his pointer finger.

"I've been doing good." Yuya answered. The others give a similar answer.

"That's good. Have you kept the card I lent you?"

"Yeah actually. Although it's still blank." Yuya answered.

"Well, just wait until the time is right. Also, Call me Oz. It's probably a mouthful saying Osrelios all the ti-" Oz cut himself off as his glasses suddenly flew off his finger and went flying. "A little help?"

Yuya and the others began to laugh.

"Hey! I'm serious! I need those to see!" Oz complained.

"Sure, sure. We'll help you find your glasses, Oz." Yuya said with a smile.

After a few minutes of searching, they find the glasses.

"Whew, thanks. Now, I hope to see at least one of you in the finals."

Oz then took off.

When it was time for the opening ceremony, Oz was standing next to Shun.

Over the short time of Shun being a part of LDS, the two have become a bit of an unlikely duo. Since Oz is the only person that he knows, even if it's barely, he is required to stick around Oz.

Shun of course hated the idea, but had to accept anyway.

The two were under the condition of no fighting, which they followed. Although Shun would find loopholes and occasionally elbow Oz in the side, which Oz would do the same to Shun.

This became a back and forth type of thing. It usually ended with one of them elbowing the other in the stomach, hard.

Another thing was that Shun was forced to lodge with Osrelios. Declan trusted that Oz could handle him in case he tried something.

Once all of the Duel Schools were introduced, Yuya was called up to the stage.

Yuya was very nervous at first, but then saw Oz in the crowd. Oz noticed this and gave Yuya a thumbs up.

Once that was over, every participant was given a special card to show who their dueling with.

Oz looked at Shun's screen. "Looks like Declan kept his word. You get to duel the spy."

"You actually believe me when I say he's an Academia Spy?" Shun inquires.

"What's there to not believe? His monsters release more energy than the Fusion monsters of this dimension."

Shun just huffed. "Who'd you get?" He asks.

"Just some random duelist." Oz states.

Oz was lying. The duelist he was going to face is a younger version of Joey Wheeler. He definitely was not some random duelist.

Oz pushed that thought to the side and decided to enjoy himself in the meantime. His duel was before Shun's duel with Sora.

The duels that were shown in the Anime went exactly the same, even Yuya's. Oz made a mental note to at least try to change the outcome of Yuya's second round duel.

It was now a few hours before Shun's duel, and time for Oz' duel.

Oz and Joey walked up to the field. The two walked right up to each other.

"May the best duelist win." Oz said.

"Yeah. Let's have some fun!" Joey said enthusiastically.

The announcer, Nico Smiley, performed the Action Duel Chant before activating the field.

What was surprising is that the field is Duelist Kingdom.

"Duel!" The two duelists shout.

"I'll go first!" Oz declared.

Osrelios LP: 4000 hand: 5

Joey LP: 4000 hand: 5

"First, I play my spell: Crystal Bond! This allows me to first add a Crystal Beast monster from my deck to my hand. I choose Crystal Beast Sapphire Pegasus. Next, I can place a Crystal Beast monster from my deck to my spell/trap zone as a continuous spell. I choose Crystal Beast Ruby Carbuncle." Oz declared.

Oz' deck shuffled, and two cards stuck out. Oz grabbed them and saw they were to cards he wanted.

Oz placed Ruby's card in a spell/trap zone.

"Next I summon Sapphire Pegasus!" Oz declared as he summoned the monster.

Crystal Beast Sapphire Pegasus: atk: 1800

"Sapphire Pegasus' effect! When he is summoned, I can place a Crystal Beast into my spell/trap zone from my hand, deck, or GY. I choose Topaz Tiger."

Oz placed the card in his spell/trap zone.

"Placing monsters as continuous spells? That's a crazy strategy." Joey complimented.

"Thanks, but I'm not done yet! I activate Crystal Beacon! Thanks to me having two Crystal Beast cards in my spell/trap zone, I can special summon one from my deck. Come forth! Crystal Beast Rainbow Dragon!"

The 8th Crystal Beast monster emerged from a gathering light.

Crystal Beast Rainbow Dragon: atk: 3000

"Next, I'll set the pendulum scale!" Oz declared.

This declaration shocked the crowd.

"With my Scale 2 Crystal Keeper, and Scale 5 Crystal Master, I set the pendulum scale! With this I'm able to summon monsters from levels 3 and 4!"

The two pendulum monsters rise up in the blue light columns.

"So this is Pendulum... it's amazing to see it up close." Joey said to himself.

"Now I end my turn." Oz declared.

"My turn, Draw!" Joey declared.

Joey LP: 4000 hand: 6

"Fist I'll start by Summoning Gearfried the Red-Eyes Iron Knight."

The monster appeared and brandished its blade-arm in a menacing manner.

Gearfried the Red-Eyes Iron Knight: atk: 1800

"Next I activate Cards of the Red Stone. With it, I can discard one level 7 Red-Eyes monster from my and to draw two cards, then I can send a level 7 Red-Eyes monster from my deck to the GY. I discard Red-Eyes Black Flare Dragon, and send Red-Eyes Black Dragon!" Joey declared.

"You hear that everyone!?" Nico Smiley shouts. "This young fellow here has himself a copy of the legendary Red-Eyes Black Dragon!"

"So you also have a copy of Red-Eyes?" Oz asked.

"Also? That means you have one! Man, this is awesome. I get to participate in a huge tournament and I meet a fellow Red-Eyes user." Joey cheered.

"Anyway, I equip my Gearfried with the equip spell: Assult Armor. This increases its atk by 300. However, that's not my goal here. When this particular version of Gearfried is equipped with an equip card, I can destroy the equip card to destroy one of your spell/traps! Since I know that your Crystal Beasts must have some use while they are continuous spells, I'll destroy your carbuncle." Joey explained.

"Sorry, but the pendulum effect of my Crystal Keeper gives all my Crystal Beast, and Ultimate Crystal cards a once per turn effect destruction immunity." Oz says as his the Ruby on his field was chipped but not destroyed.

"In that case, I'll equip Gearfried with Divine Sword - Phoenix Blade. And this time, I'll get rid of my equip card to revive a level 7 or lover Red-Eyes from my GY. I'll revive my ace! Red-Eyes Black Dragon!" Joey declared as his ace flew from a portal before roaring loudly.

Red-Eyes Black Dragon: atk: 2400

The crowd went wild seeing the rare dragon.

"Now, I activate Inferno Fire Blast! This inflicts damage equal to Red-Eyes original atk at the cost of preventing it from attacking this turn." Joey explained.

Red-Eyes then shot out his signature attack straight at Osrelios.

Oz crossed his arms to protect himself from the attack. Once the attack hit, he was sent flying back.

Once Oz landed, Sapphire Pegasus had already walked over to him, and knelt down to help him up.

"Thanks Sapphire Pegasus." Oz said to the duel monster.

Sapphire Pegasus nodded.

Osrelios LP: 1600

"I set one card and end my turn." Joey declared.

Over in the stands, Yuya and the others were watching the duel.

"It's the second turn and Oz is already in a pinch." Yuya states.

"Considering how he was damaged without being attacked, I feel like if he doesn't do anything this turn, then he might lose." Yuzu observed.

"My turn. Draw." Oz calmly said as he drew his card.

Osrelios LP: 1600 hand: 2

Oz glanced at his cards. 'Joey has the potential to end me on his next turn if I'm not careful... I'll have to use it then.'

Oz then grabbed a single card in his hand. "I activate Neos Fusion!"

"A fusion card! Now!?" Joey exclaimed.

"With this card, I can send monsters from my hand or deck to the GY to summon a Fusion Monster that lists Elemental Hero Neos as material. So I send Neos and Rainbow Dark Dragon from my deck to my GY!" Oz shouts.

The two monsters appear in spectral form before flying up to collide on the sky.

"Hero of the stars, join your power with the corrupted Rainbow and shine bright enough to purge the darkness! Fusion Summon! Level 10: Rainbow Neos!" Oz chanted.

Once Rainbow Neos hit the field, everyone was silent. They all stated in awe at how majestic the monster was.

Rainbow Neos: atk: 4500

"A monster like that summoned out that easily..." Yuya said.

"Now! I use Rainbow Neos' effect! I can do one of three things, I can send a monster or a spell or trap from my field to the GY, or I can send the top card of my deck. I choose to send Sapphire Pegasus to the GY!" Oz declared.

Sapphire Pegasus then began to fade out.

"Now, by doing this, Rainbow Neos sends all of your monsters back to the deck!"

"What!?" Joey exclaimed.

Joey's field was wiped clean of monsters.

Joey then looked at his face down. 'Return of the Red-Eyes became useless... guess I'll accept my defeat.'

"Go! Rainbow Neos! Attack directly with Rainbow Flare Stream!"

Rainbow Neos gathered rainbow energy in his hands before firing it out towards Joey.

Joey held out his arms as the attack consumed him.

Joey LP: 0

As the Action Field dispersed, Oz walked up to Joey.

Oz offered Joey a hand, that he accepted.

"That was a good duel. Why didn't you go for an Action card that could've saved you?" Oz asked.

"Easy. My friends and I don't believe in Action cards. They're too risky to use." Joey answered.

"Ah, so we think the same then." Oz replied.

The two then hold up a fist, and the crowd cheers wildly.

After the duel, it was time of Oz to wait for Shun's duel against Sora.

Once it eventually happened, Oz knew it was nearly time to make a decision that would alter the story.

Shun's duel against Sora went exactly how it should have.

It was night time and Oz was talking with Shun and Declan.

All of a sudden they were given an alert that Sora escaped the hospital.

Without wasting time Oz dashed towards the window.

"I'll search for him!" He declared as he opens the window and activated his Duel Disk.

"Come forth: Blue-Eyes!"

Oz summoned Blue-Eyes and got on it. "Go!" He commands.

Blue-Eyes takes off.

It took a while of searching, but Oz finally found what he was looking for, and he was almost too late.

Yuto and Yugo were dueling.

Oz knew he had to interrupt them as fast as possible.

Once Oz landed, he dismissed Blue-Eyes as he pulled out his Meklord Deck. 'Please my Meklords, answer my call. We need to stop these two now.'

Yugo was just about to start his turn, and both of them had their aces out. They both had their "dark influence eyes", and Yuya, who was nearby, was in pain.

"My turn!" Oz shouts, getting in the duel.

"Intrusion penalty: 2000 LP." The robotic Duel Disk voice stated.

Yugo LP: 3100 hand: 1

Yuto LP: 1300 hand: 3

Osrelios LP: 2000 hand: 6

Oz saw a card in his hand that wasn't supposed to exist, but he had no time to question it and played it right away. "I activate Meklord Infinity Sealing! This card prevents Synchro monsters from activating their effects!" Oz declared.

"What!?" Yugo shouts.

"Now by discarding Meklord Emperor: Wisel, Granel, and Skiel, I can summon Meklord Astro Mekanikle from my hand!"

Three cores of energy swirl around before cubes start to form Mekanikle around them.

Meklord Astro Mekanikle: atk: 4000

"Next I banish the three Meklord Emperors to summon Meklord Astro Dragon Triskelion!"

The three cores of energy appear again before energy swirls around them forming Triskelion.

Meklord Astro Dragon Triskelion: atk: 3000

"I activate Mekanikle's effect! It absorbs Clear Wing Synchro Dragon!"

"No!" Yugo shouts.

Mekanikle's chest opens up as energy lines fly out of it, wrapping around Clear Wing. Clear Wing try's to break free, and the display of it trying to break free was like that of a caged animal. In other words very feral. It was thrashing around, trying anything and everything to get the lines off of it.

Clear Wing wasn't strong enough to break out of the bonds and was dragged into Mekanikle.

"Mekanikle gains the absorbed monster's atk!" Oz explained.

Mekanikle: atk: 6500

Yuya's pain immediately started to die down, and the "dark influence" eyes faded from the two boys, leaving them a little disoriented.

"Battle! Triskelion attacks directly! And now it's effect activates! It can absorb a monster from my opponent's extra deck!"

"What!" Yugo shouts, still a little disoriented.

Triskelion's heads glowed as a large holographic version of Yugo's extra deck was shown.

Oz quickly looked through.

"I chose Hi-Speedroid Chanbara!" Oz declared.

Energy lines flew from Triskelion to a forcefully manifested Chanbara.

The energy lines wrapped around it and it was immediately dragged in. It did not put up any resistance, unlike clear wing.

"Triskelion gains the atk of the absorbed monster!"

Triskelion: atk: 5000

"5000!?" Yuya exclaimed.

Triskelion then charged up three beams of energy. It shot the energy out hitting Yugo straight on.

Yugo LP: 0

Oz then turned to Yuto.

"Mekanikle! Attack Dark Rebellion XYZ Dragon! Infinity Cubic Stream!"

Mekanikle charged energy in its arm cannon.

Dark Rebellion roared before charging. It too won't go down without a fight.

As Dark Rebellion got close, Mekanikle released its full force attack.

The blast from Mekanikle consumed Dark Rebellion and the shock waves hit Yuto.

Yuto LP: 0

As the battle had ended, Oz looked at the Clear Wing Synchro Dragon card. Which was just ejected from his duel disk from being absorbed.

Clear Wing was currently radiating a lot of malice, all directed towards Osrelios.

Oz could barely hear what it was saying as it was speaking fast. Although what he did catch wasn't exactly appropriate.

'Wow. This dragon has no filter.' Oz thought as he kept hearing all the profanity emitting from the dragon.

Clear Wing appeared in spirit form, and continued its verbal assault.

"This aught to shut you up. Malific Cyber End, do it."

Malific Cyber End Dragon appears in spirit form as it roars. The roar released some power on Clear Wing. A large amount of darkness emerged from Clear Wing as it flew into a blank black card.

The card then changed to what appeared to be Clear Wing covered in Malific armor.

The card read: Malific Clear Wing Synchro Dragon.

Due to the darkness being absorbed, Clear Wing stopped emitting malice and was more calm. Clear Wing then went back to the spirit world.

"What did you do?" Oz heard Dark Magician ask.

"I got Malific Cyber End to use the Malific Sealing technique on Clear Wing. The goal, however wasn't to seal Clear Wing itself, but rather to seal a majority of the darkness within, so now, no one can Absorb Yugo as long as the aborbed Darkness stays with Malific Clear Wing." Oz explained.

"That is a genius move. You essentially have stopped Z-arc's revival all together." Dark Magician praised.

"Not all together. This is only a temporary solution."

"Well, it's better than nothing."

Yuya then started to walk up to the two unconscious boys.

"Yuya don't!" Oz warned.

Yuya immediately stopped.

Oz then walked over to Yugo, pulled out a piece of paper and wrote something on it. Then he placed the paper and Clear Wing's card in Yugo's hand as it glowed and Yugo, along with his D-Wheel, vanished.

'He probably was sent back to the Synchro Dimension.'

Oz then walked over to Yuto and picked him up, hanging him over his shoulder.

"Where are you taking him?" Yuya asked.

"Shun Kurosaki is his friend. I'll be taking him back to LDS." Oz answered.

"Wait! Why is Kurosaki with LDS? Wasn't he attacking you guys?"

"He was. But the President struck a deal with him. So he's now in a partnership with us." Oz explained as he walked away.

"Oh, and for your next duel. Try not to go for any Action cards, you'll see what I mean when it happens."

Oz then saw Yuzu running up to them.

She stopped as she saw Yuto on Oz' shoulder.

"Is that..." she started.

"Yes. Yuya is over there and is okay. Sora is gone. I'll leave to two of you alone."

Oz then walked out of view.

With Oz, he got into a place with no cameras and called out to Dark Rebellion.

"Alright Dimensional Dragon. Show yourself."

Dark Rebellion appeared in Spirit form. It was looking at Oz out of curiosity, but it was cautious due to the duel, and what happened after.

"Hold still, this won't hurt at all."

Malific Cyber End appeared again and repeated the same action on Dark Rebellion as it did Clear Wing.

The new card formed read: Malific Dark Rebellion XYZ Dragon.

'This will set back Z-arc even further.'

Oz then summoned Blue-Eyes and placed Yuto on the ground.

Blue-Eyes bent down for Oz to mount, and once Oz did, Blue-Eyes picked up Yuto in his arms.

Blue-Eyes then took off.

After a little while, Oz landed at the top of LDS tower. Declan and Shun were waiting for him.

Once Blue-Eyes was dismissed, Shun saw an unconscious Yuto.

"Yuto!" Shun shouted.

Shun picked up Yuto by the shoulders.

"What happened to him!?" Shun asked panicked.

"He lost in a duel against a boy with a similar face to him. I believe his name is Yugo." Oz lied.

"That Pawn of Fusion is here!? Where is he now!?" Shun shouts.

"He disappeared." Oz stated. "There was a bright light, then he was gone."

Shun just growled.

"Good job retrieving Kurosaki's friend here. But what about Sora Shuinin?" Declan asked.

"He was nowhere to be seen. Most likely went back to the Fusion Dimension." Oz answered.

"That is unfortunate. If he's back in the Fusion Dimension, then he will probably report to the Professor. In that case, we'll double up on security. Osrelios, Kurosaki. The two of you are dismissed. You may go home and rest, oh and take your friend with you." Declan stated.

"Yes sir." Oz said.

Shun just grunted. He picked up Yuto and followed Oz out the door.

A while later, the two walk into the apartment.

Shun goes to his room, which is the guest room, with Yuto still on his shoulder.

Shun then walks out and gets on the couch.

"Taking the couch?" Oz asked.

Shun just looked away.

Oz rolled his eyes at Shun's behavior before heading into his own room.

Yugo wakes up, looking around he noticed he's in an alley of New Domino City. Yugo notices the card and paper in his hand.

"Your true enemy is a guy named Yuri. He has purple hair and uses Fusion summoning. His ace is Starving Venom Fusion Dragon. The guy you faced previous that used XYZ summoning is named Yuto, he is in a similar situation to yourself, someone important to him was taken by the same guy who took someone from you, Yuri."

Yugo read the note. "That means I've been chasing the wrong guy!? Aww man!"

It was the morning and Yuto was just waking up.

"Ugh. What happened?" Yuto asks himself as he holds his head in pain.

Yuto hears a door opening and sees Oz in the doorway.

The to store at each other for a minute before Oz looks out the door. "Shun! He's awake!"

'Shun's here?' Yuto thinks to himself.

Shun the rushes into the room, pushing Oz out of the way.

Oz fell onto the floor.

"Yuto! Are you alright!?" Shun asked.

"I- I'm fine Shun." Yuto responds. "But what happened? Where are we?"

"You're in my apartment." Oz said as he got up. "I found you passed out at the park. You seemingly lost to this guy named Yugo."

"And you are?" Yuto asked.

"The name's Osrelios. But you can call me Oz."

Yuto tried to get up, but stumbled.

"Careful. You got hit pretty bad in your duel last night." Oz said as he helped Yuto up.

"That's right. I was dueling that Pawn of Fusion. Last thing I remember is summoning Dark Rebellion. Everything else is blank." Yuto explained.

"You don't remember anything else?" Oz asked.

"No. Everything after summoning Dark Rebellion is fuzzy." Yuto admitted.

'He doesn't remember my interface with the duel... good.'

"Well, as long as your doing okay." Oz said as he let go.

Oz then walked out of the room. "Come on, I have breakfast ready."

Shun just rolled his eyes before he began to sit down.

Before Shun could sit down, Osrelios walks back into the room and grabs Shun by the arm.

Oz then began to drag Shun.

Yuto just watched in confusion.

The three of them were eating the breakfast that Oz cooked.

Seeing as they were silent, Oz decided to start a conversation.

"What was it like before the invasion?"

The two XYZ residents stopped.

They both looked down.

"... it was peaceful. And beautiful." Yuto answered.

"The people there loved dueling. Everything was perfect, it was like a utopia." Shun continued.

"Every day we could wake up with a smile on our face, not having to worry about anything."

"Then everything changed when Academia invaded." Shun said with a gripped fist.

"Then we'll make them pay." Oz stated.

"Right." Shun agreed.

Later, at Miami Stadium, Oz Shun and Yuto all headed to Declan. On the way, Yuto was caught up on what's been happening.

The 4 of them watch the rest of the duels of the first round. One particular duel called Declan's attention.

"Someone send the medical team for Kit Blade." Declan says to one of his employees.

Kit was beaten up during his duel with Iggy Arlow.

Around the end of the day, the first round matches were over and it was time for the second round to start.

Oz and Shun both had uninteresting duels, Oz won on the second turn against some nobody. After dueling Joey, he thought he'd get another interesting opponent, but he was wrong.

It was Yuya's duel against Iggy Arlow that was interesting.

The duel actually turned out mostly different than the anime.

Yuya didn't go for Action cards, as he remembered Oz' advice and saw what happed to Kit.

However, Iggy was still finding excuses to attack him.

When Yuya was being pushed to his limit, just like in the anime, something special happened.

Yuya was getting mad and a dark aura was starting to surround him. Before the aura could fully take effect, a golden glow emitted from his extra deck.

Oz saw this and smiled. 'It's finally time.'

Over with Yuya, he looked at his shining extra deck.

The card that Oz gave him was shining. He saw a vision of a dragon.

'I know what I must do.'

"I activate the Action card: Mad Hurricane! This returns my field back to my deck." Yuya declared.

"Why would Yuya do that?" Shuzo Hiiragi questions.

"Now I reset my Pendulum scale with Performapals Turn Toad and CheerMole. With them, I can pendulum summon level 4 monsters. Now Pendulum Summon! Return from the extra deck! Silver Claw and Camelump!"

The two monsters appeared.

"What are you planning with those two weaklings?" Iggy Arlow asked.

"This! I overlay my two level 4 monsters!" Yuya shouts. "With them, I construct the Overlay Network!"

His two monsters turned into energy before diving into the galaxy portal.

"An XYZ summon!?" Yuzu says shocked.

"Power from beyond this world, emerge from the boundaries and guide the light! XYZ summon! Emerge, Rank 4: Odd-Eyes XYZ Dragon!"

A golden version of Dark Rebellion appears from a bright light. It looked like Dark Rebellion to the exact detail, but gold instead of black. It also had the signature different colored eyes as Odd-Eyes.

Odd-Eyes XYZ Dragon: Attribute: Light, type: Dragon, Rank: 4, atk: 2500, Def: 2000

Summon conditions: 2 level 4 monsters

Effect: (this card is always treated as "Dark Rebellion XYZ Dragon". This card's attribute is also treated as Dark.) You can detach 1 material from this card, then target 1 monster your opponent controls; until the end of this turn, it's atk becomes half its current atk, and if it does, this card gains the lost atk.

Everyone was in awe from how majestic the dragon looked. Then all of a sudden the crowd began to cheer.

People began shouting at how beautiful the dragon is.

Back with Oz and the rest, Yuto looked at the dragon in confusion. "That looks just like Dark Rebellion." Yuto stated.

'So that's the form of turned into. Looks like Zarc was able to partially influence the card. Essentially it's just another Dark Rebellion. On the outside is its light, but the inside it houses darkness. Looks like somethings are inevitable. And here I thought I'd be able to change that part of the story. I can probably assume Odd-Eyes Rebellion can still happen.' Oz thought to himself.

Back with Yuya, he began his play. "I activate Odd-Eyes XYZ Dragon's effect! It can detach a material to half your monster's atk and gain it! What's more is that I can use this as many times as my dragon has overlay units!"

The duel then went how it did in the anime, minus Yuya being berserk. Otherwise it was the same. The crowd cheered Yuya's victory.

Declan, Yuto, Shun, and Oz all speculated with each other on why Odd-Eyes XYZ Dragon was just like Dark Rebellion. Of course Oz held back his actual deductive reasonings.

In the end, they left it as a mystery. As Oz and the XYZ duo were walking back to Oz' apartment, Oz was communicating with his Duel Spirits.

"So in the end, even with Yuto not absorbed, Z-arc found a way around that, and gave Yuya the equivalent to a second Dark Rebellion."

"This is indeed concerning, even though the dragon radiates light, it still holds much darkness." Sephylon stated.

"We must tread carefully from now on master." Chrono dragon said.

"I agree with my brother. It appears that some significant events will still happen as they are supposed to, even if some of the minor detail or other significant events change.
