Time for another chapter of this fanfic!
I figured that you're looking forward to a continuation of this adventure.
Since we've already had a fair share of water levels this one will take place on a plant instead.
Though it wouldn't be too surprising if it rained on the beanstalk, would it?
We'll also be introduced to some new characters. They're not ones that I made up, but they are new to this fanfic.
Chapter 20: Jessica and the Beanstalk
Jessica bought a chain whip from the shop.
It seemed a good idea to buy new equipment after beating Gracos. She had been a strong opponent.
After all, they were about to explore a new world. World 4 would most likely have stronger monsters than World 3.
Luigi bought a new pair of boots.
They were known as the Shell Boots.
Mario bought a pair as well.
Jessica bought a dancer's costume.
"How do I look?" asked Jessica. If she wanted to, maybe she could do a dance later.
"Pretty good!" exclaimed Angelo.
She liked to dress up at times.
And this costume would provide her with some protection from the monsters.
Peach noted there were tiaras in the shop as well.
She settled on a Sparkling Tiara.
This gave her a small boost to her MP.
A Skyward Stalk
Some Garudas appeared.
They screeched at our heroes.
"We've got company!" exclaimed Jessica.
Both Jessica and Jade had fought them before.
These birds just so happened to know magic.
A Garuda grabbed Luigi with her talons.
"Help!" exclaimed Luigi.
She then proceeded to drop him on Jade.
"Ouch!" shouted Jade.
"Mamamia!" exclaimed Luigi.
Unfortunately for Jade, the fact that these birds tended to fly around made it difficult for her to hit them.
But Jessica could hit them just fine.
Some Fat Rats appeared.
These enemies Jessica and Jade hadn't faced before. But the author decided they were common enough to include in this fanfic.
"I think you need to eat a little less cheese." noted Peach to one of the rats.
"It's true. I could use a good workout." spoke the Fat Rat. And maybe some veggies too.
In his defense, cheese was delicious. So it was hard for them to stop eating it.
Incidentally, the Fat Rats could eat cheese to heal themselves.
And yes, this was a creative liberty with the source material.
"Maybe I should go on an adventure." noted the Fat Rat.
"I can help if you want me to." spoke Peach.
"Sure!" exclaimed the rat.
He joined Peach's side.
Some Hawk Men appeared.
Jessica remembered fighting one some time ago.
This time there was more than one.
A Hawk Man lunged towards Peach.
But she blocked it with her parasol.
"Who would have thought that a parasol would make such a great defense?" remarked the hawk man.
"It sure was useful in Super Paper Mario." admitted Peach.
Some Morphean Mushrooms were on the beanstalk as well.
Like their weaker comrades, they used Sweet Breath. Just like their weaker cousins could.
Though sometimes, they could put them by sleep just by attacking them.
Aside from the mushrooms, there was Ornery Onions.
The onions made people cry.
When they did so it was harder for them to aim their attacks.
Luckily, they were vulnerable to fire. As well as slashing weapons.
Our heroes reached a cloud.
There was a ladder they could descend to get to Frosted Glacier.
Luckily, there was some snow that would break their fall if they slipped.
Our heroes heard the sound of stomping.
A large monster was most likely approaching them.
"Fe fi fo fum! I smell the blood of some heroes!" exclaimed the Cyclops.
"How can he smell our blood?" asked Luigi.
"I don't know!" exclaimed Peach. This was a lighthearted fanfic so there was a noticeable lack of blood.
This time it was a cyclops they had to fight.
"There's a cyclops at the top of the beanstalk. Why doesn't that surprise me?" questioned Jessica.
"You shall not pass!" exclaimed the cyclops.
He was holding onto a club.
For some strange reason, all the cyclopses seemed to have one. Just as all the trolls had maces.
OST: Fight With Mecha Drago
As his appearance would imply, he was a rather strong monster.
One swing of his club was enough to send our heroes flying back a few feet.
And when he pounded the ground with his club, he made a shockwave as well.
Well, technically they were on a cloud and not the ground. But you got the idea.
Jessica hit the cyclops with a fireball.
Luckily, she had learned Frizzle recently.
That would definitely help considering they were going to an ice world.
The cyclops tried to stomp on her, but Luigi whacked his foot with a hammer.
"Ow! My foot!" exclaimed the cyclops.
He summoned some Winkies to assist him. He might be big and strong, but he was still outnumbered four to one.
So this seemed like a good way to even the odds.
"You're summoning Winkies? That's actually pretty appropriate." noted Jessica. They too had only one eye.
It was surprising how many Dragon Quest games they had been in. Not as many as the slimes though.
Unfortunately, Winkies could sometimes get angry.
When that happened, they attacked faster and hit harder.
"You hurt our boss! That makes me angry!" exclaimed the Winky.
She then charged towards our heroes.
Luigi pulled out his Poltergust and blew them away.
One Winky began to hypnotize him.
It looked like Luigi was about to fall victim to a creative liberty.
But Jade blew a kiss at the Winky.
The hotness caused him to lose his concentration.
"Rats!" exclaimed the Winky. If only he hadn't lost his focus.
The Cyclops roared at them.
Luigi was knocked off his feet.
"Whoa!" exclaimed the plumber.
Luckily, Jessica picked him up.
Jade punched the Cyclops in the belly.
"Ow!" exclaimed the monster.
Luigi whacked him with his hammer.
And then Jade finished off the Cyclops with a kick to the head.
"Rats!" exclaimed the Winky.
The cyclops fell to the floor.
"Ok, you can pass. I guess." spoke the cyclops. It looked like Krystalinda would be handling things now.
He had faith in her.
"Our work here is done." noted Jessica.
"That was kind of easy compared to Gracos." remarked Jade. She could summon tidal waves. And yet, the Dragonlord was stronger than she was.
"Maybe. But the Dragonlord is sending Hargon to stop you. It looks like you've managed to irritate him." spoke the cyclops.
Hargon had access to an airship, so he was a force to be reckoned with.
"Hargon?" questioned Jessica.
He was the main villain of Dragon Quest II. Though Malroth ended up being the final boss fight. It was rather fortunate that they weren't going to have to face a god in this adventure.
Not yet, at least.
Sure enough, Frosted Glacier was within sight.
Luigi noticed there was a treasure chest.
It too was from E. Gadd.
Inside was a Fire Medal.
"That's-a pretty good!" exclaimed Luigi.
Now his Poltergust could spew fire.
For some reason, it couldn't in the second or the third game.
Which was a shame, since it would be useful against ghosts that used plants and ghosts that used ice.
Meanwhile, Wario was relaxing in his castle.
He had decided on one in that world.
But unfortunately, it had been discovered by the Dragonlord's army.
They decided that they would go inside.
"You think that the Dragonlord will want this castle?" asked a Cannibox.
"He already has plenty of castles. But then again, this one is rather luxurious." noted the Gold Golem. He was a golem of luxurious tastes himself. Hence being a golden golem.
They planned to break in while he was sleeping.
Sure enough, he fell asleep.
They could tell because he turned off the lights.
Wario was snoring in his bed, having no clue as to what was about to happen.
And yes, he was thinking about money.
The thought of money not giving him happiness never occurred to him.
But to be fair, there were things he loved other than money.
Little did he knew that he was in for a rude awakening.
Suddenly, the Dragonlord's minions began to make off with his belongings.
Perhaps he should have installed some security measures to prevent this from happening.
But he liked to make money, not spend it.
"We really lucked out this time!" remarked a Gem Slime. They had picked the perfect place to rob, in her opinion.
Wario heard the noise and decided to check to see what was going on.
He discovered what was happening soon enough.
"Hey! That's my treasure!" exclaimed Wario, shaking his hand in anger at the thieves.
"It's the Dragonlord's now." answered a Gold Golem. He got the feeling the Dragonlord would be pleased with the heist.
"If you want to live in his kingdom, you have to pay the tax." said a Cannibox. That was how things worked now.
"I never heard of this tax!" exclaimed Wario.
"The princess isn't in charge anymore. The Dragon King is!" exclaimed the Gem Slime. She would like to see someone try to topple him from the throne.
It seemed that the minions didn't have respect for other people's property. Though to be fair, Wario had committed petty theft a few times.
Well, he wasn't going to sit there and let the minions make off with it.
"Whoever this Dragonlord is, I'm going to trounce him!" exclaimed Wario.
Nobody stole from Wario and got away with it. Maybe he should take some of his to teach him a lesson.
He decided to see where the minions were headed.
They were headed to a tower.
"So that's where-a you're going!" exclaimed Wario.
He followed the monsters into the tower.
But he came across the tower's guardian.
It was a Blue Dragon.
"Mamamia!" exclaimed Wario.
He ran out in a hurry.
"He sure runs pretty fast for someone so fat." noted the Blue Dragon.
It looked as if getting his treasure back was going to be a bit more difficult than he thought.
Perhaps he needed to find some help. There was no way he was taking that dragon on alone. And something told him that she wasn't alone, either.
But who would help him on such short notice?
He got his answer soon enough.
"Hey there!" exclaimed Wario.
"Hello?" asked Luigi.
Meanwhile…
"According to the map, we can get to Chucklehuck Woods by heading south from town." noted Alena.
"It might be a good idea for us to get new equipment first." spoke Kiryl.
According to the sign, they had just gotten some new stock.
So it seemed like a good idea to buy some.
After all, there was another Koopaling somewhere in the woods.
They didn't know when they would find her, but it would be best to be prepared for when they did find her.
Our heroes noticed there were Beanies standing in their way.
"Why did you sign up for the Koopa Troop?" asked Peasley.
"If you can't beat Bowser, join him!" exclaimed a Beanie.
They were joined by Parabeanies.
"I think we can beat him if we work together personally." noted Kiryl.
"What do you think of our wings?" asked a Parabeanie.
"Not bad, but you'll need more than wings to beat us!" exclaimed Alena. They had faced flying enemies before and had come up on top. No pun intended.
"Alright then. How about some Sharpeas?" questioned a Parabeanie.
Some Sharpeas appeared.
"You remind me of the Spinies." noted Peasley.
"Yeah, but we can do this!" exclaimed a Sharpea.
He rolled into a ball and spun towards them.
"Oh no! We're being attacked by a creative liberty!" exclaimed Peasley.
Luckily, Nera stopped the Sharpea with an ice wall.
"That's one chilly defense!" remarked the spiky enemy.
She froze another Sharpea solid.
Meanwhile, Ruff found himself in Chateau de Chucklehuck.
He discovered that he was surrounded by fruit.
Fruit that for some strange reason had a smile.
"Oh boy!" exclaimed Ruff.
He wasn't sure how he had ended up here, but judging by all the fruit around, it was a good place.
He decided to help himself to some.
The Chuckola Fruit was delicious.
And for some reason it made him giggle.
Suddenly, Cork and Cask showed up.
They were not pleased by Ruff's actions.
"Hey! You can't just waltz in and steal from us! Zat is not permis!" exclaimed Cork.
They had a business to run and having thieves at the chateau was not productive for business.
"You should not take vhat does not dependre to you!" shouted Cask.
"Sorry, I didn't know this belonged to you!" apologized Ruff. If he had, he wouldn't have taken it.
"In zis case, we'd be willing to let zis slide. But could you help us? We heard zat a thief had been spotted in ze area and ve figured zat ve should find someone to guard it." explained the man who dressed in red.
"Vould you be willing to aide us?" asked the man in green.
"Ok!" exclaimed Ruff. He wanted to make it up to them for stealing from them.
"Merci!" thanked Cork.
"Huh?" asked the boy.
"He says thank you!" answered Cask.
"You're welcome!" exclaimed Ruff.
He had a strong sense of smell, so it would definitely help find a potential thief.
Hopefully he could prevent the chateau from being robbed.
As it turned out, a thief was planning to rob it.
His name was Popple. He looked like most other Beans, but for some reason he had yellow eyes.
He was rather short as well.
"I'm going to make myself rich!" exclaimed the thief.
He was pretty sure all that fruit would be worth a bunch.
And he was pretty sure there was treasure in the chateau as well.
"I'm looking forward to this!" exclaimed Popple.
He had brought a crew of thieves with him.
With their help he was sure he could pull this off. Though he did note to himself that he was going to have to pay them a profit of the cut.
It looked like the chateau was now under siege.
I hope you liked this reference to a fairy tale.
It's been a month since I began this fanfic.
Time kind of flies, doesn't it?
I'll probably be working on this fanfic for the next month as well.
But I do think I'm making progress.
After all, have the heroes not defeated three generals?
I decided Wario might make a good addition to this fanfic.
What do you think?
And yes, the Dragonlord's minions are creating their own hero. Or should I say anti-hero?
I heard that adding new characters was a good way to deal with writer's block. At least, I heard that was how a couple of writers dealt with it.
I'm not having writer's block with this fanfic though.
