Chapter 3: Friend
Once Ivan got inside he placed Gilbert down on his bed before grabbing his medical kit from his field bag.
'Take your shirts off now.' Ivan ordered as he knelt in front of him.
'Fuck you creep I am not having sex with you!' Gilbert protested.
'Your shoulder is injured and I want to fix it. How dare you suggest I want to fuck you. Maybe I need to teach you manners with my Magic Metal Pipe of Pain.' Ivan warned.
'Fine, whatever your a fucking creep but don't try anything.' Gilbert said, taking his jacket and shirt off.
Ivan then jabbed his finger in the wound on purpose causing Gilbert to yelp in pain.
'Manners or I do it again.' Ivan warned.
Gilbert huffed and let the Russian patch him up. Ivan was surprisingly gentle with him and once he was done Gilbert put on his shirt, ignoring the rumble from his stomach.
'I think you need food, da. I am sure I can spare something.' Ivan smiled, grabbing the bag of food and walking to the counter.
'Why are you even helping me Russia? What's your play here? You want something.' Gilbert scoffed.
'Believe it or not I don't. I could hear it in your voice when you spoke about your brother, you miss him. I miss my sisters too. We are both lonely, da.' Ivan said sadly.
'I am not lonely! fuck you!' Gilbert yelled.
'Why were you not evacuated with other high value targets?' Ivan asked.
'Because only my awesome ass can win such a bad odds battle.' Gilbert lied with bravado.
'Then why run away? Be honest. I don't give a shit.' Ivan sighed.
'Like I would tell you shit so you can use it to bully me.' Gilbert spat.
'Your the bully I think you will find.' Ivan rolled his eyes as he walked over with a plate of fish on buttered bread and threw it down on Gilbert's lap before sitting next to him.
Ivan then rolled up his sleeves and showed Gilbert two recent looking scars on the tops of his arms near his wrists. He figured if he opened up to Prussia slightly he might trust him more.
'A while ago I disobeyed my boss, so to punish me he made me stop a tank with my hands. The bones pushed through the skin here. It hurt badly and he made me go to a meeting without getting it fixed. It bled alot and it was hard to reassure everyone I was fine.' Ivan said sadly.
Gilbert looked at the scars and up at Ivan. He was opening up to him. Gilbert wanted to believe this was some sort of evil tactic but the look of pain and sorrow on Ivan's face said otherwise, his smile was no longer there, come to think of it Gilbert had rarely seen him not smile since he had grown up.
'I guess there is no harm in telling you… I was sent here as a punishment. I argued back with Germany's boss and he didn't like it. He never liked me, because of how I look and my awesomeness that he calls arrogance. He didn't evacuate me because I think he is hoping I will die here or be captured by you so I am no longer his problem.' Gilbert sighed.
'Honestly I don't even think escaping will get me to see Ludwig again, he will probably send me somewhere else awful. I just wanted to try. He's my little brother.' Gilbert said, looking away to hide the fact he was crying.
Ivan pulled Gilbert into a hug, causing the Prussian to freeze up at first but when he realised how gentle the Russian was being he untensed himself. Allowing himself to enjoy the comfort.
'I know how that feels. I miss my sisters so much right now. My big sister would always cook for me and fix me when my Boss hurt me badly. Having to do that for myself sucks.' Ivan said, burying his face into his scarf as he cried himself.
'It doesn't matter anyway. There is fuck all food and I am gonna starve here. I was sent here to die. I was de facto dissolved 10 years ago. I might not come back if I die this time. It's exactly what he wants.' Gilbert sighed.
'Wait… you're gonna die?' Ivan pulled away in shock looking genuinely distressed.
'No I am too awesome to die!' Gilbert laughed, putting his front back up, knowing he had said too much.
'I don't want you to die! It's not fair!' Ivan began crying heavily much to Prussia's surprise.
'Why do you care? We are enemies, remember, have been since forever.' Gilbert said, confused.
'No! I just want to break you so then I can make you my friend.' Ivan said, playing with his hands.
'You have a broken fucking brain. That's not how you make friends, moron, that's why you don't have any.' Gilbert laughed.
'You don't have any either! Because you are an arrogant asshole!' Ivan snapped defensively.
'I have loads of friends you dick! You sound like Ludwigs boss. 'Prussia you are an arrogant asshole' 'Prussia you bring shame to our empire' Fucking asshole.' Gilbert said, imitating Ludwigs boss's voice before scoffing.
'His an arrogant asshole.' Ivan added.
'He would kill you if he heard you say that.' Gilbert laughed.
'He already wants to.' Ivan smiled, glad to see Gilbert perk up.
Gilbert grabbed the last bit of bread off his plate, feeding it to his bird before placing his plate down on the floor.
'Thanks for the food and everything. That was pretty awesome for a loser like you.' Gilbert said sincerely.
'Hey… ummm… If you want to… I can probably make this last for us both if I was clever… you could come here every night for food… so you know you don't die and I can break you.' Ivan asked nervously, he didn't like being alone and the Prussian was the first person he had seen in a while who didn't immediately look like a deer in headlights upon seeing him.
'Always creepy… Fine, deal. Just don't poison my food.' Gilbert smiled.
'Why would I ever do that? Friends don't poison friends.' Ivan pouted, causing the Prussian to laugh a little.
He looked so adorable when he was pouty, maybe if he pouted more often people would actually like him. Better than that creepy smile he normally wore.
'I should go anyway. I guess I will be seeing you tomorrow after dark.' Gilbert said as he got up.
'Wait! I will escort you so you don't get caught.' Ivan sprang up.
'Sure.' Gilbert sighed, this could still all be a trap but what choice did he have.
Ivan helped see Gilbert as close to the front line as he could. Waving bye to him as he snuck back into the German side. Ivan found himself skipping home despite everything that was happening, he had made a new friend.
'I can't wait to get home and tell my sisters me and Prussia are eating dinner together like friends do now.' Ivan said happily before stopping in his tracks sadly.
'Oh right… I am alone…' He sighed sadly.
