Chapter 1

Prologue

"Do not let her get away!"

Running. That's all she has been doing. It's the only thing she can do. She ran through various corridors and ducked just in time to avoid a blast of magic meant to take her head off. She managed to catch her breath for a moment before running in another direction.

"Don't kill her, you fools!"

"She's going into the main room! Stop her!"

Safety. Or at least, she hoped it was. She darted her eyes from side to side to find a way out. The door behind her was now barricaded thanks to her but it was only a matter of time before those chasing her would break through. Her tail wrapped round her waist in an effort to comfort herself but it did little to put her fears aside. There were no windows, no more doors, no way out. She was trapped! And her head wouldn't stop throbbing!

But that's when she spotted something in the centre of the room. It was some sort of spherical container. Maybe she could hide in there and think of a plan. But the more she looked at it, the more her head started to hurt like crazy. She clutched her head and groaned in pain, feeling a strange connection with that container. Oh well, it was now or never.

"Harder you fools!"

The banging on the door got louder as she clicked her tongue in frustration before placing her hand on the spherical metal and to her shock, the door to the container opened up. Recovering from her stupefied state, she quickly climbed inside before being presented with a series of weird contraptions. It was strange how she seemed to know what to do with it. There were numbers and letters that would pop up whenever she hit a button. So she just punched in random letters and numbers that came to her from memory, though she didn't understand why.

"DESTINATION: CONFIRMED"

The container started vibrating violently as she looked at the floor of the rook starting to get smaller. That's when the doors burst open and the people chasing her started throwing anything they had at the container. It didn't matter, she was safe. It rose out of the building and into the sky. She was getting out of here-

BOOM!

*ERROR! ERROR! MAJOR DAMAGE IN HULL! EMERGENCY! EMERGENCY!*

Oh no. Everything was going dark. She had to escape! She couldn't control it! She had no clue where she was going! And just before she fell unconscious, she saw the ground rapidly approaching.

Back at the room, a woman smirked as she had her hand held out. "Good. She won't be going anywhere now. The ritual has already been performed."

"Shall we search for her?"

"No. Let her go. If she lives, she won't get far. The connection is now complete. She won't be able to hide from us. Now clear up this room. It's a sad state."

"Chrooooom! Why are we doing this again? Especially so late at night? A Princess needs her beauty sleep and you're ruining mine!"

It was late night as a group of three were slowly walking down a path. Two of them looked young while another was a little older. The man in front laughed nervously and rubbed the back of his head.

"Ah, come on, Lissa! Nothing like a good late night patrol to get the blood pumping! Am I not right, Frederick?"

"Indeed, milord." Frederick nodded which made Lissa pout.

"You agree with him over everything!"

"Not true. I question his lordship's fashion sense. After all, leaving one arm bare isn't good for the skin. What if we are in the sun and he gets a rather unfortunate sunburn? The uncomfortable feeling alone would make his mind wander from the battlefield."

"…It helps with my sword arm, Frederick. And besides, I make sure to apply plenty of ointment to protect my skin." Chrom said as his retainer raised an eyebrow.

"What about two summers ago?"

"That's because Lissa swapped out my sun ointment for cooking oil!"

That made Lissa descend into a giggling fit, almost dropping her staff in the process. "Oh, that was classic! You looked like a lobster!"

"Moving on!" Chrom exclaimed, but quickly shut up when he realised just how late at night it was. He kept a hand on his family heirloom, the legendary sword known as Falchion. Said to be wielded by the Hero King Marth. If there ever was a perfect weapon to protect the innocent…

"Hey, look up there!"

"Lissa, I'm not playing your game-"

"No, look! A shooting star!"

Chrom raised an eyebrow and looked to where his younger sister was pointing, and sure enough, there was a bright light shooting across the sky.

"Huh. Well, I'll be." Chrom muttered.

"Ooh! We should make a wish!" Lissa suggested but Frederick kept his gaze up at the star. Now, he had some very minor knowledge on astronomy but shooting stars didn't travel that quickly. Nor were they red. Or… on fire. And… heading towards them-

"GET DOWN!" Frederick roared, tackling Lissa to the ground and Chrom quickly followed suit just in time as the flaming object rocketed past them, Chrom feeling intense heat just from being near it. They all then heard a large explosion in the distance. Presumably where that object landed as Frederick helped Lissa up.

"Are you okay, Milady?" Frederick asked, dusting off the Princess's shoulders and not noticing her face red from anger.

"No, I'm not okay! Why did you tackle me?!"

"It was in an attempt to save your life."

"Well, you could've given me a heads up!"

Chrom slowly picked himself up and looked in the distance where that object went. Every bone in his body told him to go there.

"Hey, Chrom! Where are you going?!" Lissa yelled as she watched her brother run off.

"We're investigating! Someone could've gotten hurt!"

"ARE YOU CRAZY?! Oh… I should've just stayed in bed." Lissa groaned but ran off in pursuit of Chrom but was stopped by Frederick.

"We shall go on horseback, milady."

"Yeah… probably best. That way we can get out of here if things go bad…"

Meanwhile, Chrom kept running. He didn't know why his body was telling him to go, it's almost like he knew what would await him there. And if his gut was right, then he would never forgive himself if he left an innocent villager to die. When he got to the top of a hill, he gasped at what he saw.

Thankfully, there were no farms nearby. So nothing got damaged. But even that small relief wasn't enough to prepare him for what he saw. There was fire everywhere, scattered throughout the field. Though it wasn't spreading, it still looked like something out of a story where a dragon laid waste to the land. At that point, Lissa and Frederick had arrived and the Princess covered her mouth in shock at what she saw and Frederick stepped in front of her to shield her from any possible threats. But then something caught Lissa's eye.

"Chrom, look!"

He followed to where she was pointing and gasped. In the middle of the fire, there was someone laying there.

Oh no. Someone did get hurt!

"We have to help them!" Chrom yelled, immediately taking off and running down the hill.

"Right!" Lissa nodded and tightened her grip on her healing staff before running after her brother, with Frederick staying behind with his horse. He would go down there to protect the Prince, but he couldn't leave his horse behind. Needless to say, if there was trouble, then he would take swift action. But for now, he kept an eye on the siblings.

Chrom made his way to the person laying in the ground and threw himself onto his knees to check if they had any serious injuries. Luckily, there was nothing visible as he took the persons head in his hands and angled it to check for-

BOP!

"Ow! Lissa, what was that for?!" Chrom yelled, rubbing his head on the spot where he was blinked by her staff.

"Idiot! Don't move her body around when we don't know if anything is wrong!"

"Wait… she?"

Now that he properly looked, he saw that it was a woman who looked to be the same age as him. Her white hair was tied up into twin pigtails and she looked to be peacefully sleeping. He then turned to Lissa and nodded as she hovered her staff above the woman's body. Her brow furrowed in confusion at the result.

"That's weird… based on where we are she should have at least SOME form of scratch on her, but nothing! No internal bleeding either."

"So are we safe to move her?" Chrom asked.

"I guess… it's probably best to get her away from this fire at least. Hey Frederick! Can you help us?"

Frederick nodded and slowly made his way down to assist. But the clearer his view got of the woman, the more his brow furrowed. More specifically, when he saw her attire.

But he kept it to himself. For now. The least he could do was help his lord. "Please milord. Allow me to carry-"

"No, it's okay Frederick. I'll do it." Chrom

Said and gently picked up the woman before carrying her off to another part of the field, away from the slowly dying embers of the crash site. Frederick looked at Lissa following Chrom and sighed to himself. He will still exercise caution, and be prepared to strike if things go hostile. But as he turned to get his horse, he noticed a piece of metal that wasn't on fire. But what grabbed his attention was that it was unlike any metal he had seen before. He slowly got on one knee and went to pick it up, but quickly drew his hand away, cursing at it being hot to the touch. He had no clue what it was. But perhaps-

"Hey! Frederick! Are you coming?!"

He quickly realised his surroundings and turned to see Lissa with her hands on her hips.

"Coming, milady!"

But… he quickly produced a satchel which contained a container full of water and poured a little on the piece of metal, watching it hiss loudly as the water rapidly cooled down the scorching hot piece. Satisfied with the temperature, he quickly took it and placed it in a separate pouch before going to grab his horse.

Back with Chrom, he couldn't help but keep on looking at the woman in his arms and how… peaceful she looked. Which was very strange considering he found her in a wreckage with fire everywhere. Perhaps they could get some answers once she comes to. The sun was starting to come up, indicating it was dawn. Gods, they really had been up the whole night, haven't they? He gently laid her down just as Frederick and Lissa caught up.

"I advise you stay away, milord. Until we know her true intentions."

"What do you mean?" Chrom asked and Frederick pointed at the woman's coat.

"Those are Plegian robes. I recognise the symbols. What now concerns me is what is a Plegian doing all the way out here in Ylisstol?"

"Frederick, have a heart." Lissa said and turned to her brother. "Chrom, we have to do something!"

"What do you propose we do?"

"…I don't know!"

"Ngh…"

The siblings widened their eyes and saw the woman was starting to wake up, groaning in pain. Chrom kneeled down and smiled. "I see that you're awake now."

"Hey there." Lissa smiled gently.

"There are better places to take a nap than on the ground, you know." Chrom joked and extended his hand for the woman to grasp. She gladly took it and he noticed a peculiar symbol on her right hand but chose to not bring it up for now. No need to overwhelm her.

The woman smiled and Chrom actually got to see what her eyes were now. A dark gray. And yet, he smiled. They suited her. But then his eyes widened when the woman groaned in pain, clutching her head.

"Come on! We're almost here!"

"I'm right behind you, Chrom!"

BANG!

"Chrom, no!"

"It… wasn't… your fault…"

"Are you okay?"

She blinked and saw the three strangers staring at her. But she nodded. "Yes. Thank you Chrom."

"Oh, then you know who I am?" Chrom asked but the woman just winced, massaging her temples.

"No, it's strange… your name… it just came to me."

"Hmm… how curious." Chrom muttered, with a hand on his chin in thought. "Well then, what's your name?"

The woman frowned and looked around, as if suddenly realising where they were… which to her, was nowhere. "I'm sorry, but… where am I, exactly?"

Lissa gasped as it all clicked together for her. "Hey, I've heard of this! It's called amnesia! Guess that crash we saved you from must've hit your head pretty hard, huh?"

"More like a load of pegasus dung." Frederick said, as the woman felt like she had to put her defences up. But the retainer wasn't done.

"Are we really to believe that you remember milords name but not your own?"

"B-But it's the truth!"

Frederick was about to interrogate her more but Chrom raised a hand to silence him. "Peace, Frederick. What if it IS true? We can't leave her here, all alone and confused. What sort of Shepherds would we be then?"

"And besides, you saw the destruction!" Lissa chimed in. "She needs a proper examination!"

"…just the same, I would emphasise caution, your Highnesses. T'would not do well to let a wolf in our flock of sheep."

"Right. We'll take her back to town and sort this out there."

The woman felt like she was being completely ignored here. "H-Hey! Don't I get a say in this?!"

But Chrom raised his hands and smiled. "Peace friend. We promise we'll hear all that you have to say once we get to town. Now come."

The woman tried to stammer out anything to try and make sense of her situation but soon just sighed in defeat. Oh well. She didn't know where she was so might as well put her trust in these strangers. But as they were walking, she glared at the trio as an unpleasant thought crossed her mind.

"What will you do with me? Am I to be your prisoner?"

But Chrom just laughed. Like the idea was humorous to him. "No, no. You'll be free once we establish that you're not an enemy of Ylisse."

She tilted her head. "Ylisse? Is that where we are?"

Frederick wasn't convinced. "You've never heard of the halidom? Ha! Someone pay this actress! She plays quite the fool. The head tilt is especially convincing."

The woman didn't know why, but she felt an overbearing urge to strangle this man. She didn't like feeling belittled. Thankfully, Chrom seemed to be on her side as he shot a look at his retainer.

"Frederick, please. Now then, this land is known as the Halidom of Ylisse. Our ruler, Emmeryn, is called the Exalt. Now that I think about it, I suppose proper introductions are in order. My name is Chrom, though you already knew that. The delicate one over there is my little sister, Lissa."

"I am NOT delicate! You take that back! Ignore my brother, please. He can be quite thick sometimes." Lissa said.

"…She also has quite the mouth on her."

Lissa then smiled at the woman and took her hands in her own. "But boy am I glad the Shepherd's found you instead of brigands! Now that would've been a rude awakening!"

"Shepherds…?"

"Oh, right. That wouldn't make sense to you." Chrom muttered. "Well, that's the name of our little group! It's a dangerous job after all, just ask Frederick the Wary here!"

"A title I shall carry with pride. Gods forbid one of us keeps an appropriate level of caution." Frederick scoffed and turned to face the woman.

"I have every wish to trust you stranger. But not only does my station mandate otherwise, but your entire situation is too strange."

"I… suppose I can understand. I am just a random woman you found in the middle of a burning crater… gods even that sounds crazy. My name is Robin."

The three looked at her as she blinked in confusion, as if wondering what the hell just happened. "…I just remembered that. Hm. That's odd, but I suppose that's one mystery solved."

"…Robin?" Chrom muttered. Now THAT was a strange name. He hadn't heard it from anywhere before. Maybe she was outside the lands of Ylisstol and further beyond that. Ah well, they could discuss it later. After all the town was nearby-

"CHROM! THE TOWN!"

He blinked out of his thoughts from his sisters screams but then his whole body went on high alert when he saw smoke coming from the town. "Dammit! The town is ablaze! Damn brigands…"

Chrom then turned to the group, specifically his sister and retainer. "Frederick! Lissa! Quickly!"

"But what about her!" Frederick asked, looking at Robin. But Chrom shook his head.

"Unless she's also on fire, it can wait!"

"Aptly put, milord." Frederick nodded, getting on his horse and following the siblings, leaving Robin behind.

She felt confused. Apparently that was a natural feeling for her today, considering everything. But when she looked at the burning town, she felt something bubbling up in her chest… as well as a feeling in her lower back area. That she couldn't explain, but she did know one thing. She was excited! Why? She had no idea, but she followed her instincts and ran to catch up to the Shepherds. Robin then felt something at her hip while running and looked to see it was a spell tome. Oh, so she knew how to use magic? How useful, maybe she could use it.

But when she saw Chrom fighting a brigand, all reasoning left her mind and she did the only thing she knew was right. And something that left Chrom dumbfounded.

She punched the brigand in the face so hard, he flew into a building and got buried by the rubble of the now destroyed house. The battle temporarily stopped as Frederick and Lissa had the same look of shock that Chrom did. As did Robin who was looking at her hand in disbelief. Was… that her?

"Robin…? How did you…"

"I… I don't know I just… acted."

"Holy cow Robin, that was amazing!" Lissa yelled, running up to her. "You punched him over 25 feet at least!"

"Indeed… well done, lady Robin." Frederick said, eyeing her warily. "But we mustn't falter yet. I trust that you are here to assist?"

"Yes." Robin nodded. "I cannot stand by and let innocent people die. If you'll have me, I know how to fight."

"That's an understatement!" Lissa exclaimed. "But… we will have to rebuild that house."

"We can worry about that once we rid the village of these evildoers." Chrom said. "We will be happy to have you by our side, Robin. Now get ready everyone!"

But nothing could prepare him for what he was about to witness.

"Oh… Naga…"

Chrom was just standing there, sword hanging limply by his side as he watched Robin dispatch the last of the brigands with ease. Even Frederick couldn't contain his disbelief. They didn't even get to do anything most of the time! It was like she just went in knowing exactly how to combat the opponents. Robin looked back at them, hand coated in blood after punching through the leaders chest and rubbed the back of her head.

"Sorry… I should've left some for you guys."

Though the only one who wasn't in shock was Lissa who pumped her hands in the air.

"That was AWESOME! Oh my wow Robin, you were incredible! Maybe I could take some pointers from you so I don't get called delicate anymore!"

Recovering from his shock, Chrom smiled. "Indeed. You have done us a great service today, Robin. You have my gratitude. You're certainly no helpless victim. I have to say, I've never seen anyone use a mixture of spells and hand to hand combat before."

"Hm. Perhaps you can finally provide an explanation to how you came here? It's awfully convenient that you managed to remember your knowledge of combat." Frederick narrowed his eyes at Robin, who grimaced in return.

"Forgive me, sir Frederick. I can't explain to you why I know how to fight. It's like I saw them and… this overwhelming feeling came over me. All that was on my mind was combat. Please believe me when I say that I've told you all I know."

"You've helped saved Ylissean lives, that much is enough in my eyes. And Frederick, I know you're skeptical, but the Shepherds could use someone like Robin." Chrom said which took Robin by surprise. But he wasn't done.

"Think about it. Not only is she incredibly skilled at hand to hand combat, which frankly a lot of us need a few pointers on doing. But she also managed to cook up strategies on the fly! Deciphering weaknesses, and that one house aside, was able to dispatch all the brigands with ease!"

"And let's be honest… we suck." Lissa sighed. "I mean we have a Pegasus Knight who constantly trips and falls flat on her face, a sort of average guy, a man who REALLY needs to wear a shirt! Oh, and a knight who I swear is invisible. But at least we have Miriel! She's smart! And Sully is strong!"

A conflicted look was on Frederick's face as he hated to admit it, but she was right. They desperately needed someone who knew what they were doing. That's when Chrom spoke up.

"And as odd as it may be, I believe her story. So Robin, will you join us?"

Robin smiled widely and nodded. "I would be honoured! After all, I need to repay the debt I owe you."

"Now don't be silly." Chrom replied. "After all, you helped us defend this town. I think I can confidently say that you're no enemy of Ylisstol. But perhaps there are other ways you can pay off this debt."

"Oh? And what would that be?" Robin tilted her head. But Chrom raised a hand and shook his head.

"I'll need to think about it. For now, however-"

"Oh thank you all for saving our town! Please allow us to throw you a feast!" One of the townsfolk stepped out of their home to praise them.

At the sound of food, Robin perked up as well as a strange feeling in her lower back. Oh, now that sounded amazing! Just the thought of pork and chicken and rice and noodles and-

"We're not staying?" Lissa whined which made Robin' eyes widen.

"We aren't?! Why?! Food!" She yelled as Frederick raised an eyebrow. Why was she making a big fuss over food?

"I'm afraid that we must hurry back to the capital and report to the Exalt. We are already delayed as is."

"But Frederick, we've been out since yesterday without rest!"

"Then if we need to, we can set up camp. Live off the fat of the land, set up a fire, maybe catch some animals to cook-"

"Okay, now you have my attention again." Robin smiled earning another strange look from Frederick. He truly could not figure this woman out. At first, he thought she was Plegian. It made sense of course, as they were near the border at the time and her coat matches the symbols found there.

But the more he looked at Robin, the more Frederick starts to doubt that claim. For one thing, those bandits they just fought had the standard Plegian accent. Not Robin, however. Her accent wasn't anywhere close to that. Not only that, there was also her strength. He has seen his fair share of brawlers but he has never seen anyone punch with enough force to destroy a house and split open a human skull. So who the hell was this woman?

"Chrom, your lieutenant has quite a stern look directed at me." Robin leaned over to speak to Chrom. But Lissa overhead and sighed.

"I can think of other things for his look…"

"Frederick only smiles when he's about to bring down the axe." Chrom explained as the trio heard a throat being cleared.

"You do know I'm still present right?"

Chrom let out a chuckle and Robin a giggle as he nodded. "Oh, we know."

Frederick just shook his head in response. "Milord remains as amusing as ever. Now then, shall we get going?"

"Frederiiiiiiick! I'm tired!" Lissa moaned, struggling to move her feet even one more step as the group sans Robin were definitely feeling the exhaustion hit them. They had been active for over 24 hours at this point and secretly, Frederick was starting to regret his decision to not take up the village on their offer.

"It's dark and cold and…" Lissa let out a loud yawn but then started coughing loudly.

"Blech! A bug flew in my mouth!"

Trying to ignore his legs screaming at him to rest, Chrom chuckled. "Aw, come on Lissa. Hardship builds character. Want to help me gather firewood?"

"I'll pass on that, thank you very much." Lissa huffed. "I think I've built up quite enough character for-"

GGRRRRROOOOOWWWWLLLL!

"EEK!" Lissa yelped jumping into Chrom's arms as they all frantically look around with Frederick standing in front of the siblings.

"A beast! I'll protect you, milord's!"

"Umm… actually… that was me."

They all looked to see Robin rubbing her belly and blushing hard. "I'm… kinda starving. Could we think about food?"

Frederick nodded, after recovering from his shock. Seriously, who IS this woman?

"Excellent idea. I believe a spot of hunting is in order. Milady, how about you help me clear a campsite and milord and Lady Robin can see about gathering some food."

"I like your idea of thinking, Frederick." Chrom smiled. "Though I wonder what will be on the menu today? Come Robin, let's see what we can find."

"On it." Robin said and flew upwards to scan the area around her. There seemed to be a lake nearby, so they could try their luck at fishing. Oh! There were bears nearby! That could help out if they got one… or two…

Maybe three. Yeah, bear and fish sounded amazing right now. So with that plan in mind, she touched back down to ground and faced the group and pointed in the direction she saw the animals.

"There's a lake in that direction along with bears. I think we should try and gather some bear meat and fish."

But then she felt a little self conscious when the three were staring at her like she was some sort of freak. "Is… everything okay?"

"By Gods, Robin! You flew!" Chrom exclaimed and she blinked a few times in response.

She… flew?

She flew!

"Yeah… I did… well then, I guess we can chalk that up as another quirk of mine."

"That's so cool…" Lissa whispered.

If only they knew just how much more of Robin's 'quirks' they would be seeing.

"By Naga's name…"

"I almost can't take my eyes off it."

Lissa and Frederick were just staring in disbelief at their new comrade who was… on her fourth bear. Not her fourth serving. No, she had eaten THREE whole bears and was still chowing through the fourth one. Not to mention, there were also seven fish bones next to her too.

"I… think I've lost my appetite. Do you want my bear, Frederick?" Lissa asked him, holding out her share but Frederick managed to crack a nervous smile.

"There's n-no need milady, I already ate earlier."

"Chrom, do you-"

"Wow, I can't remember the last time I ate bear! Delicious!" Chrom exclaimed, gnawing on his bear meat and Robin nodded.

"You said it!"

"…Okay never mind. I'll just… put this here…" Lissa mumbled, gingerly pushing her share towards the pair.

"Fascinating…" Frederick whispered, unable to take her eyes off Robin wolfing down the meat like she hasn't eaten for day. Soon enough, she was done as she patted her belly sighing happily in satisfaction.

"I feel so much better now… hey, what's wrong you two? You didn't touch your bear."

"I was more just… surprised about how much you ate. That's not exactly normal." Lissa explained. But then she yawned and stretched.

"I think I'm ready to sleep… but it's so cold."

"Oh, if you're cold, then you can use my coat." Robin offered as she stood up and took the coat off of her and held it out to Lissa. But then she noticed how… quiet everything was and she saw all eyes were on her… again.

"What?"

Lissa pointed at her and was struggling to get the words out. "T-T-T-T-Ta…"

"Robin, you have a tail!" Chrom yelled.

Huh?

She slowly looked behind and saw that indeed, there was a furry brown tail swaying back and forth.

"Oh… I suppose I do."

Frederick was just stunned as all logic was now thrown out of the window.

WHO WAS THIS WOMAN?!

Welcome to the introduction of the new story. I showed off Saiyan Robin in my other story, The Ashen Saiyan. And I'll be doing things a little different here compared to the other story. It won't get as frequent updates nor will the actual chapters be as long. It's just me going by events much more frequently. But there will be a couple changes such as some characters getting to live. But anyway, join us in the next chapter where we go further into Saiyan Robin.

Catch you later!
