Chapter 1: The First Day

A few months later…

It's been a few months since I graduated from the WNA Academy in Eagle City. And the day has come.

The first scene shows a dorm room and in bed, a teenaged boy with spiky light blue hair woke up from his alarm clock buzzing in his smartphone. He took his phone and shut the alarm as he got out of bed.

My name is Kappei and today is my first day at Advanced WNA High in California, Komerika! Yeah I'm so excited to learn new ninja skills and have fun in high school! I'm currently living in the Boy's Dormitory where all the boys enrolled in this school are assigned to stay here for the next 3 years. My room has a bed, a desk to study, a mini frigde for me to stock up on my favourite snacks and drinks and it comes with a computer to game or to use for communication to like for instance, chat with my grampa and a wardrobe for my clothes! Glad the school doesn't issue uniforms because I'll look like an idiot for wearing one. I also have my own bathroom but I can choose to go down to the Onsen at the 3rd level. Plus, all the stuff I own back at my hometown are moved in here as well!

As Kappei got up, his little friend Gumchi woke up beside him and, "Goodee! Goodee! Mornee!"

"Good morning Gumchi!" Kappei greeted and hugged him a bit. After that, "I'll get you breakfast. Just stay inside and wait for me but first, I need to freshen up."

The little yellow ET gum nodded as he went inside his bathroom. He took a shower and dried himself. Wrapping his towel around his waist, he took a glance at the mirror. Wow, he sure changed a lot thanks to the training he went through from young till now. He smiled at his reflection and suited up. He used to wear loincloth as his underwear but now, he uses the modern one. Next up, he put on a pair of sleek, blue pants, a black T-shirt and finally, a sleek, letterman jacket with the same colours like his old outfit he wore back at WNA Academy with the exception of the sleeves which are white and the WNA logo on the upper right side. The only thing that remains the same is his white and pink baseball cap that still fits him well as he put in on backwards. He then wore white socks and black track shoes. "Alright. Now to grab a bite for myself and Gumchi."

It now cuts to the dining hall as Kappei waited in line for breakfast with the other boys. "Breakfast for today is…wow! Sandwiches of one's choice!" He thought in excitement and he's next in line. He got himself 2 luncheon meat sandwiches with cheddar cheese and a glass of orange juice. Being new here, he tends to feel shy about sitting with others so for today, he sat alone and had his breakfast. Eating only one sandwich and stashing the other for Gumchi, he looked around a bit and after drinking his juice, he carefully snuck out.

As for Gumchi, he had a decent breakfast as Kappei watched him chew the sandwich. Looking at the time, "I better get going. See you later Gumchi." The little guy waved him goodbye as Kappei grabbed his schoolbag and left the dorms.

5 minutes later, "At last…this is where my high school journey begins. And it's really a short walk since the Boy's Dormitory is just beside the school on it's right." Kappei thought as he looked at the school. It's large, has 10 storeys and many classrooms and facilities for learning and leisure. He looked around to see many students arriving when he heard a familiar voice. "Kappei? Is that you?"

"Huh?" He looked to his left and gasped at the sight of, "No way…Emma!"

Yes, the Ninja Dancer has also arrived to attend this high school and she has grown beautiful in form and appearance. The hairstyle is the same as before and she now wears a sleeveless dark pink shirt, a black skirt and her jacket is the same as before and likewise, the shoes except the colour is neon green instead of neon yellow. Plus, she wore white socks.

Kappei was mesmerized by her presence and beauty as his eyes even gazed at, "Wait, what am I looking at? I'm not suppose to think dirty thoughts!"

"I'm so glad to see you!" Emma approached him as they smiled. "I thought I was the only one assigned to this high school until now!"

"Same thing! When did you arrive?"

"A few days ago. After the WNA Academy, I continued to improve on my dancing and one day, Ms Warren delivered a letter to me and it says that I'm enrolled here. She's also nice enough to prepare my dorm room before my arrival." Emma explained.

"Nice! I returned to my village and my grampa still tortures me with more ninja training until one day, he gave me a letter and wow! I'm enrolled here!" Kappei explained his side of the story.

"Cool! Ah if only Van and Lucy are here as well but instead, I heard they were enrolled in Oedo when I asked Ms Warren about them." Emma exclaimed.

"Hope they're doing fine. And likewise…Burton, Berecca, Ron and Jane." Kappei added bringing them up.

"Yeah…I remember the day after graduation where they revealed to us their true identities."

"At the same time, Burton was able to create a cure and right before our eyes, they turned back into adults!"

"As a result, they were restored back to their usual jobs at the WNA." Emma then looked at the school. "Shall we get going?"

"Let's go then!" The 2 students entered the school grounds as they looked around. Many students are hanging around and bonding. Interestingly, "I noticed that some of the students have extraordinary abilities." Emma told Kappei. "Yeah. I saw one guy merge 2 objects with his hands and another lift a picnic bench with girls sitting on it." He replied. "And I saw 3 girls fly into the school landing on their feet." Emma added. "Do you think there is more to this high school than all those?"

"Who knows? And I can't wait to get started!" Kappei cheered and they entered the building.

Inside, "No way…" Both were amazed at the inside as students walked by talking or discussing with one another. The main hall sure is large and the ninjala logo is seen on the floor. There also shinobi guards patrolling the area for security and order. "So where do we start?" Kappei asked. "We need to find our lockers. When we first arrive at our respective dorms, we were issued our school ID cards which also acts as our dorm keys and locker combinations." Emma explained.

"Oh yeah! Glad I remember it in my head!"

"The locker combination?"

"Yup!"

They decided to use the elevator to get to their class. While waiting, Kappei took notice of the floor details reading through his mind. "Level 1 has the principal's office, vice principal's office, staff room for the teachers, the front desk for inquiry and the gymnasium, auditorium, cafeteria and library which spans up to 2 levels. Level 2 has the audio room, music room, dance studio and computer labs, Levels 3 to 5 contain classrooms, lockers and learning facilities like the science labs, kitchens, workshops and art rooms. Levels 6 to 8 contain dojos and other ninja training facilities and finally, ninja battle arenas spanning from levels 9 and 10 and it includes the rooftop. So exciting!" By the time he finished reading through, the lift arrived and they inside.

They soon reach level 3 and there, they searched and found their lockers. "Oh my gosh. Our lockers are just beside each other!" Emma noticed. "Cool. We can exchange info related to school and ninja training." Kappei replied as they set up their lockers. Opening them, they began their organization when an announcement was made.

"Attention to all freshmen attending Advanced WNA High, there will be an assembly at the gymnasium at 8:30am. Please proceed there for the principal's welcoming and briefing." Nodding at each other, they settled their lockers and left for briefing.

It now cuts to the gymnasium as all the freshmen are gathered and lined in in order according to the class they are assigned to. Kappei and Emma are in Class 1-A with 28 other students and in total, there are 10 classes. As they waited, "POOF!" A smokebomb took effect and on stage, the principal has arrived. He's around his 40s, has black hair, a small beard and wears a black kimono.

"Welcome freshmen to Advanced WNA High School. I am Principal Bingram and it is an honour to meet you all. In the ways of the shinobi, your journey started off in the WNA Academies and it continues right here. The high school will ensure that you will all get a chance to not only hone your shinobi abilities but to also help further your education. The paths you all wish to seek here will determine your future as you pursue your education here. I wish you all the best in your school journey and in the honour of the shinobi, GO NINJALA!"

The whole assembly gave their principal a round of applause as he bowed to the freshmen and used a smokebomb to vanish away. Now that it's finished, the freshmen made their way to their respective classrooms. Kappei and Emma arrived first as they looked around. "So…wanna sit together?" Kappei asked.

"Um….sure." Emma replied shyly and they sat on the desks in the centre of the classroom. As they waited, Emma took a glance at Kappei. When they met outside the school entrance, she couldn't help but notice the change in him. He appears to be more built-up on his physical body in which it's both lean and buff with some muscles and he no longer has that bandage on his nose. Oh how back in those days at WNA Academy, they rarely hang out. It's just her and her best friend, Lucy and the other girls while he hangs out with Van who's his best friend and the other boys.

But ever since that day during the Ninjala Tournament when he saved her from Dan's attack(Episode 31), she couldn't help but think of him sometimes. And this grew during the remaining years at the academy though she kept this to herself and often times can feel shy when he's around her like this one time during training when she saw how he improved his swordsmanship to a whole new level, it was really epic(Episode 39). Not to mention…he's pretty much cute and handsome in her eyes. And this thought made Emma feel a light blush on her face when, "Thinking of something Emma?"

"Oh nothing. It's nothing." She replied managing to hide her blush as they continued waiting and already, their classmates have arrived and took their seats. Chatting took place with friendships being formed and bonds being established as Emma used her extreme hearing to eavesdrop many conversations and then, the door opened.

All stopped to see a half Japanese, half Komerikan man entered the classroom. He's around his 30s, has a slightly shaved head and wears samurai armour with 2 katanas attached behind. "So…this is the freshmen attending their first year here hmmm?"

All were silent as he went to his desk. "I am your teacher for the next 3 years. Call me, Sensei Tatsu and I'll be teaching you Math and the Ninja Arts. In this school, you will balance between studies and ninja training. For those living in dorms, you're allowed to visit many areas outside the school but be back at before your curfew. Weekends on the other hand are extended and you guys can visit each other's dorms but for the boys, there better not be any acts of perversion on your female classmates and any of the other girls. Severe punishment is liable."

The boys including Kappei said nothing as he continued on. "There are rules in this school that you must abide and the school does not tolerate bullying, extreme violence, illegal activities and dishonour." He then took his phone out. "When you guys are enrolled here, how many of you have yet to download the high school app in your phones?" Some including Emma and Kappei raised their hands. "Download it now for this app contains information related to the school. The rules and regulations, important events, exam periods and your class schedules that you all must check weekly for updates."

Those students followed the instructions as they whipped out their smartphones and installed the app. "Good. In addition to the app, the School ID cards you received when you enrolled here also acts as your credit card. That way, you can use it to buy school supplies and your meals. You can also use it outside like when you go to the malls, restaurants, entertainment facilities, various shops and many more, for they all accept our school payment method. As of now, there's 5,000 credits in your student IDs and every month, deposits will be automatically transferred into your cards. (Also in other words, 5,000 USK dollars)

Everyone erupted in excitement over the massive amount of credits as, "Why so much? Oh well, enough to last for this month..." Kappei thought as he looked at Emma who appeared to feel a bit uncertain. He then checked today's schedule.

Math, 9-9:45am
English, 9:45-10:30am
Physics, 10:30-11:15am
Geography, 11:15-12pm
Lunch Break, 12-1pm
Ninja Training, 1-3pm

"If nothing else, take out your math textbooks and we shall begin some algebra." Sensei Tatsu ordered and the first lesson begins. For 45 minutes, basic algebra is taught as the sensei wrote down equations and explained how they are solved. Some are taking down notes, others are listening while reading through and a few are somewhat distracted but not much.

Up next is English and their teacher Mrs Dean had the class work on sentence construction and she gave them homework. An essay in which students must write about the way of the shinobi in their own opinion. Deadline is on Wednesday.

After that, Physics and Mr Raster started the lesson off with basic measurements ranging from kilometers to meters to centimeters to millimeters, kilograms to grams to milligrams and litres to millimeters. He even engaged the class to play a game in which they need to convert some of the measurements from high to low or the reverse.

And finally, Geography as their teacher, Ms Sheer showed the class a 30 minute video about geography and the other related fields of study in which the class will go through for the 3 years in their education. Good to know as the students talked about it with each other for the next 15 minutes and some even asked their teacher questions regarding the subject and she's patient enough to answer them.

Lunch hour…

The bell rang and students upon hearing it dashed their way to the cafeteria excited for the food and beverages provided. "C'mon Emma! Let's grab a bite together!"

"Sure thing Kappei!" They grabbed their school bags and headed to the cafeteria. When they arrived, it was crowded with students as some are queuing for their lunch, some are seated eating and mingling and others are racing for vacancy using their ninja arts. Looking around, "Ooh. I'll go and buy my lunch over there!" Emma pointed at some stall nearby and went to the queue. "Alright then. We'll meet at the second level!" Kappei called out to her and he went to buy his lunch.

A while later, Emma got her lunch and went up to the second level. "Over here!" Kappei appeared to have successfully secured a table for himself and her as she sat with him. Now for their lunches, Emma had a bowl of minestrone with a butter roll and a glass of water. Kappei on the other hand had, "You got to be kidding me." Emma exclaimed because his lunch consist of a mountain of mashed potatoes with gravy on a large plate, 5 pieces of deep-fried chicken and a can of cola. "Oh man! I knew the food here will be as luscious as the ones back in the academy!" said Kappei as he began devouring his mashed potatoes.

Emma giggled at this still remembering his hearty appetite as she drank her soup. She then used her hearing eavesdropping many conversations between the students. "Got anything?"

"Nothing much. Just some gossiping, after-school plans and other trending topics." She replied as she sipped her drink and already, he devoured half of his mashed potatoes in a few minutes. Most surprisingly.

As they ate, "Huh? That guy..." Kappei took notice of one of their classmates. He's a boy with tanned skin and short, spiky black hair as he looked around for a table to sit and eat his lunch. "Looking at someone?" Emma asked.

"Yeah. He's from our class." Without ado, Kappei waved to him and he noticed them so he made his way and there, "Thanks for letting me sit with you guys!"

"No problem! I might have recognized you since we're in the same class and if I remember, you're seated at the front." Kappei replied.

"I see...you picked things pretty fast. Well then, I'm Archie." He introduced himself.

"Kappei."

"Emma."

"Wait what?" At the drop of hat, Archie whipped his phone out and scrolled through for a moment. He then found it. "This is you?" It was video of Emma doing her breakdance moves at the streets of Eagle City as, "I finally get to meet you! I've followed the videos! They're so dope!"

Emma was pretty startled by this as Kappei grinned about it. "First day of high school, you're starting to earn some fame." He told her and she smiled sheepishly about it as Archie started eating his lunch which is a grilled chicken with 2 sausage and salad with a can of iced tea. "You know, you guys are the first to befriend me and I'm grateful for that."

"No problem. We'll be sticking together for 3 years so it's best to hang around together and learn together." said Kappei.

"Indeed Kappei. Indeed..." Emma agreed and gazed at him a bit with a smile while eating another spoonful of minestrone.

So the 3 students had a great time mingling with one another during lunch break and then, "Guys. We got 10 minutes left to our first ninja training class." Emma brought up. "Oh yes! This is the class I'm looking forward to!" Kappei cheered excitedly. "Same here bro!" Archie cheered also and they fist bump each other. With that, they grabbed their trays, went down to the first level and left their trays, utensils and empty bowls and plates at the tray return area where the dishwashers will wash all of them and clean them for the next meal.

"If I remember, we are assigned to a dojo at level 6. Am I right?" Kappei asked.

"Indeed. Now let's move already!" Emma exclaimed as the 3 students headed their way to their first high school ninja training class.

The first chapter is done and it's a good start for ninja high schoolers!

Now here's some important info regarding this story.

One, most villains are defeated but a few prominent ones are still on the run or in hiding as mentioned in the prologue. New villains will be making some moves soon.

Two, Berecca, Burton, Ron and Jane are adults in this story as mentioned in this chapter, a cure was created after graduating from the academy and the other 4 kids learnt about it.

Three, it's assumed that the kids entered WNA Academy between the age of 12 to 13 years old and after 3 years, they graduate and when the ninja high schools began, they'll be 16 to 17 years old. Also, all 16 high schools will follow the school semester of Komerika. For schedules, it's up to them.

And lastly, it's gonna be fun writing and planning out this story for there'll be 3 story arcs and lots more to come!
