In a rocky barren plateau, all was quiet as a few red crystals stood here and there. But then, the silence was disturbed when a giant monstrous serpent with an eel-like body slithered by that was over twice the length of the big Blue Whale with grayish red scales and a distinct frills on the side of it's neck similar to a cobra's hood and multiple dorsal fins running down it's back to it's tail. And a lower jaw that splits armed with large protruding teeth.
Jörmungandr.
Jörmungandr then stood up like a cobra roaring out as a metal custom-made section of a prosthetic leg lands on the ground near the giant monster. The owner of the prosthetic was a Viking in his early 30's, auburn brown hair, green eyes, short beard, silver helmet with a red dragon symbol and clothing indicting him as a Viking chief.
His name is Hiccup Haddock.
733 A.D.
And today, comes his biggest battle ever. As he prepares to trap Jörmungandr, as for months he and his best friend, a Night Fury named Toothless have then tracking down and coming up with a plan to defeat the World Serpent as he poses a threat to the Hidden World. But now, Hiccup has nearly got Jörmungandr right where he wants him.
He lures Jörmungandr to the Gronckle Iron he has set up in a large cave with the staff that belongs to his mother, Valka. He decides to twirl it and spin it around as it makes a rattling sound, thankfully his mother taught him how to use it.
Jörmungandr confronts Hiccup as he twirls the staff roaring, he could feel it's breath, but he stayed focused on Jörmungandr, keeping it drawn to the staff as he backs away and towards the cave as Jörmungandr followed him.
And hiding in the shadows, Toothless was by the locking mechanism ready and waiting for Hiccup's signal.
Soon, Hiccup was right by the entrance as Jörmungandr stood over him completely drawn to the staff as Hiccup twirled it. And Hiccup wasn't doing this just for the safety of the dragons or the Hidden World, but also for the safety of his tribe and family, knowing that Jörmungandr could be going after them eventually.
Then Jörmungandr roars as then Hiccup rushed out of the way at the last second as the World Serpent strikes rushing into the cave.
"Toothless, now!" Hiccup yelled.
Toothless roared getting to the mechanism as he reaches inside, and bites down on the lever and pulls it. And then the Gronckle Iron gate lowers down trapping the monster serpent inside as Hiccup looked.
Inside, Jörmungandr bites down on the metal gate as it was proven too hard for him to bite through as it snarled and hissed glaring at the chief. And he soon lets go and retreats into the shadows.
Toothless went over to Hiccup and lightly growled at the gate as Hiccup placed a hand on his head.
A few hours later, Hiccup and Toothless have returned to a cave in a mountainous region where they have they have based camp during their hunt for Jörmungandr. And Hiccup was finishing up written the passage of Jörmungandr's capture in a journal that he worked on since day one. And he left a writing on the cage to warn those that might find the cage, even after he long passed, as while as his mother's staff in case Jörmungandr escaped. He has also filled it with other dragons and places he had visited one time in a lush forest region with he had left "Haddock" on it. One page he even did drawings of himself and his friends when they were 13 years younger. During that time, they both did search for other Night Furies as Hiccup thought by the smallest chance that some escaped Grimmel's wrath, but failed. And Hiccup sadly believes now that Toothless truly is the last of his kind.
Hiccup soon finishes writing and closed the book, Toothless went over nudged him and crooned.
"Yeah, it's been a rough few months, huh, bud?" Hiccup said.
Toothless warbled and turns to a wall of the cave as well as Hiccup as there was a painting of him and his family with Toothless by them. His wife, a beautiful woman with blonde hair and blue eyes, his daughter with his hair and her mother's eyes making her a spitting image of her, and his younger son with his mother's hair yet looks exactly like him having his green eyes.
Hiccup sighed. "Won't be too much longer, Astrid."
He then turns to Toothless as he looked sad knowing this could truly be goodbye, and Hiccup press his forehead against Toothless' as he sadly crooned.
The next day, Hiccup placed the book in a capsule and closed it as it can only be opened by a horn on his helmet. He soon placed the capsule behind some rocks, and hoping that someday, someone will find it and hopefully find a way to have dragons return safely in peace.
He got up and turns as the Light Fury, Luna, which Astrid named a while ago and their three children, the Night Lights, Dart, Pouncer, and Ruffrunner were by Toothless. Hiccup smiled at the sight of Toothless being with his family, but also made him thought of his own family back on New Berk which is deeply worried for him of being gone for so long.
He then sighed as the Fury family to turn him.
"Well, Luna, I... guess this is goodbye." Hiccup said.
Luna purred and nuzzled him, and then the three Night Lights tackled Hiccup to the ground as he laughed.
"Easy, you three." Hiccup laughed. "I'm-I'm gonna miss you as well Dart, Pouncer, and Ruffrunner."
Pouncer and Ruffrunner sadly whined with big eyes as if they didn't want him to go. And Dart sadly purred as well.
"Take care of your dad for me, okay?" Hiccup said giving them each a hug. "You too, Luna."
Luna crooned and nodded.
"Well, Toothless... Up for one last flight together to bring me home?" Hiccup asked.
Toothless warbled with a smile.
A black flash soars swiftly over the ocean with a high-pitch whistling as Toothless speeds over the water as it stirs in his wake with Hiccup riding him.
Hiccup held on as he looks at the water seeing his reflection and brushes the surface his hand almost seeing himself when he was younger when he first met Toothless. And they both flew by a migrating pod of Humpback Whales as the bound over the water, and then Toothless flips around as a Humpback breaches out of the water and they flew by it as it crashes back into the water.
"Yeah!" Hiccup cheered.
They then flew upward and soared through the clouds as Toothless bellows out, and they then flew an up and over move and the dive down and flew up again as the twirled through the air. They flew by a cloud and Toothless roars out as they both fell and Toothless twirled around and flew upward again over the cloud and soon levels out as Hiccup held his arms out as they flew high in the air.
"Ready?" Hiccup asked.
Toothless warbled as Hiccup then slid off him and fell as Toothless dives after him. Toothless soon catches up to him as they twirled in the air falling as Toothless had his tongue out.
They soon straighten out and fell pass the clouds with the ocean coming into view, and Hiccup got back on Toothless as he opens his wings and parachutes upwards and glides through the air.
Many miles away, at their family house on New Berk, Zephyr and Nuffink were on the porch watching the sky for their father to return. Astrid soon appeared seeing them, the two kids have been at this for weeks and she too was worried for Hiccup. She and Valka were able to keep an eye on things at the village, but with Hiccup gone for this long, they were now getting truly concerned.
"Zephyr? Nuffink?" Astrid said approaching her children.
Zephyr and Nuffink turn to their mother and hugged her tightly.
"Oh, kids." Astrid said hugging her children. "Easy, easy."
"I miss Dad." Zephyr cried.
"Shh, shh." Astrid said gently comforting them. "I'm here."
Zephyr lightly whimpered and Nuffink sniffled a bit.
"When is Dad coming back, Mom?" Nuffink asked.
"I don't know, son." Astrid said uncertain. "Soon, hopefully."
"But what if we never see him again?" Zephyr said.
"Hey." Astrid said gently lifting her daughter's chin. "Your father is the bravest, most stubborn man I know. He will come back for us."
"I'm scared." Zephyr said.
"I know, I know, sweetie." Astrid said. "I am too."
"But, Mom, you're always so brave." Nuffink said. "You don't look like you're scared of anything."
"Everyone's afraid of something, Nuffink." Astrid said. "And besides, you can't be brave if you're not afraid first."
Then a familiar roar fills the air as they then looked around and saw a black flash overhead.
"Is that...?" Zephyr said hopefully.
And then Toothless and then lands by the house and Hiccup climbs off him.
"Daddy!" Zephyr and Nuffink happily cried and rushed over.
"Hiccup!" Astrid yelled.
They then ran over and tackled Hiccup to the ground in a big hug as they laughed.
"Oh, I missed you all." Hiccup said hugging his family.
"We missed you, too, Daddy." Zephyr said.
"What happened, Dad?" Nuffink asked.
"Well, I lot has happened when I was in the Hidden World." Hiccup said ruffling his son's hair. "But... Jörmungandr is locked up."
Astrid, Zephyr, and Nuffink were then stunned.
"You mean...?" Astrid said.
"Yes." Hiccup nodded. "We don't have to worry about him ever again."
"Thank Thor." Astrid said relieved.
"I'm sure you beat that snake pretty good, Dad." Nuffink said.
"I sure did, Nuffink." Hiccup said and laughed. "Jörmungandr stood no chance against me." He then tickles his son as Nuffink laughed.
"I bet he would've been scared of Mom as well." Zephyr said.
Astrid chuckled. "I'm sure I would've just scared him off."
Toothless watched from close by letting them have their moment.
"Toothless!" Zephyr said.
"Can we go see him?" Nuffink asked.
"Of course." Hiccup said.
Zephyr and Nuffink and then rushed hugged Toothless.
"Hi, Toothless!" Zephyr said.
Toothless crooned as Nuffink hugs around his snout, and then lifts his head as Nuffink laughed while holding on. And Hiccup and Astrid couldn't help but laugh from the sight of their children playing with Toothless.
After a few minutes, Toothless purred as he looked up in the air.
"Leaving now, huh?" Hiccup asked.
Toothless warbled and nodded.
Hiccup then sighed. "Well..."
Suddenly Toothless' ears perked up and looked alarmed.
"Toothless?" Hiccup frowned.
Then the ground lightly shook and then it grew more violently like an earthquake as Zephyr and Nuffink immediately cling to their parents and Toothless stood by them protectively. And then a nearby ridge started to break apart as rocks came loose.
"What's happening?!" Zephyr cried.
"I don't know!" Hiccup yelled.
And soon the shaking stops after a few moments as a dust cloud settles as soon the whole village appeared after feeling the tremor.
"You guys, okay?" Hiccup asked.
"Yeah." Astrid replied and coughed.
Then suddenly a deep rumbling growl was heard as then the dust cloud lifts and they then saw a gigantic shape was several yards from them. And the dust cloud settles more as it was a colossal dragon. A Wyvern with dark bluish gray scales, a row of curve dorsal plates running down it's back shaped like a shark's fin, and it looked to be well longer than a Bewilderbeast.
The Berkians kept dead still and silent as the dragon appears to be coming out of torpor after burrowing itself and hibernating likely for centuries.
Then the dragon exhales a strong gust of wind from it's nostrils like a whale spout, and then it's right eye opens and a nictitating membrane slides back revealing a golden orange eye and vertical pupil as it focuses on the nearby crowd.
"Dad?" Nuffink nervously said.
"It's okay, sweetie." Astrid said.
The dragon then let out a deep trilling sound and it begins to lift it's head and neck as the Berkians watched. And the dragon's right hand claws lift up and stomps down and it then rose up to it's full height as any debris on it's back rolls off as the dragon stood at a height of well over 300 feet. And then the dragon lets out a deep thunderous roar so loud it could be hear and felt for miles.
Once done, it soon lowers it's head, but then turns towards the crowd of Vikings it towers over.
Everyone then got terrified as then the dragon cranes it's head lowering down hovering near the Haddock family as Toothless growled standing between them.
"Nobody move!" Hiccup yelled.
Toothless' dorsal plates split open and lit blue as he then roars out loudly at the giant dragon. But the dragon remains undeterred as it stares down at them, and then sniffs. And for a moment, Hiccup and the dragon made brief eye contact as it's firm stare then softens. And then the dragon growls lifting it's head and steps back as the ground shook and turns away as it's long tail flew by. And the dragon strides away, and then opened it's gigantic wings and then takes off into the air.
And the entire village watched the giant dragon as it flies off, and soon vanished from view.
"Bearded Thor." Gobber said still shocked. "What was that?"
"I don't know." Hiccup said. "But at least it's gone."
"Um... what about the big trench it left?" Fishlegs asked.
They then turn to the churned-up ground left by the dragon's emergence.
"Uh... I-I'm sure we'll think of something later." Hiccup said.
Hours later it was now sunset, Toothless was preparing to leave as Hiccup his hand under his chin.
"Guess this is it." Hiccup said.
Toothless warbled as Hiccup strokes him.
"Take care of yourself, okay?" Hiccup said.
Toothless chittered and purred and turns to Astrid, Zephyr, and Nuffink close by and back to Hiccup. He then backs away, and then runs off to the cliff edge as Hiccup sadly watch as then Zephyr and Nuffink rushed over to their father and hugged him.
Astrid too sadly watched as Toothless got the ledge and turns back to them one last them and lightly roared. He then flew off and away heading west back to the Hidden World, and Astrid joins her family as Toothless was heard roaring out in the distance.
That night, the giant Wyvern soars through the air of the high Arctic as strong winds blew.
The dragon soon lands on flapping his wings to slow his descend and lands hard on the ice. He then scans the harsh landscape of ice and snow as he exhales a snarling hiss as exhales expels from his nostrils.
But then the dragon suddenly acts up alertly and growls stepping back and looks around as if he senses something and hissed.
Then he heard a faint crackle in the ice and looks ahead as a faint blue glow was seen in the ice and approaching him. The dragon was unsure what to make of this strange glow as he growled and got into a cautious and defensive stance.
The light from the glow dims a little, and then suddenly the brightness grew as something plows through the ice as it broke apart and an enormous mass equal to the dragon's size rose up from the ice with flashing jagged, shard-shaped dorsal plates on it's back as the dragon steps back as the creature let out deep growl.
This newcomer stood on massive two legs with four claws on feet resembling an elephant's, as it's right foot stomps on the ice, and the creature had a bulky torso structure, arms with four-fingered claws, three rows of 89 dorsal plates running down his back, long tail, a short broad neck with four gills on each side, and a squarish, block head with jaws of teeth. Has crocodile-like skin with dark gray scales, and standing 355 feet tall.
The reptilian behemoth stood his ground confronting the dragon and growled, and the dragon's right three-toed foot stomps with a thunderous thud as he stood his ground as his tail whipped around and roars out.
The creature glared at the dragon with golden-yellow eyes and snorted.
The dragon then flapped his wings roared and held them out wide to intimidate his confronter, as both stood undeterred as a fight in inevitable.
Then the monster reptile lets out a thunderous ear-piercing roar and the dragon roars out loudly and then charges. The monster too charges as he then grapples the dragon's head and then bites down and then slams his head against the ice hard. The dragon struggled in his attacker's grip, but then pulls free and slams his head against his attacker's face in an uppercut-blow. The impact was enough to knock his attacker off his feet falling back and hits the ice hard with a heavy thud.
The dragon growled stepping back whipping his tail around, and the monster soon recovers and turns back to his rival and roars out.
Their roars filled the Arctic wind as they continued clashing, and then the dragon fires a blast at his attacker's face as he roared in pain throwing his tail in the air and it slams down on the ice hard. But then the small plates on his tail lit blue and then followed up with a small throbbing hum as the dragon saw this, and then the creature's tail lifts up as the pulsating throb grew more intense as the glow followed up his back as the titan then inhales deeply. And then fires a powerful blue stream towards the dragon as he narrowly dodges it. And then the dragon roars firing a powerful flame blast striking the giant on the chest, he was knocked off his feet roaring still firing his blast attack as it struck an ice cliff as it explodes and ice chunks flew everywhere.
The creature fell on his side as the dragon charges to attack, but the monster quickly swings his left hand at the dragon's face as he stumbled back. The dragon soon shakes the blow off and turns back as the monster got back to his feet and roars.
The dragon growled and lifted his wings up and then flew upward flying off, and the creature then roars out loudly.
A few weeks later, the dragon was resting in an area of sea stacks as he was on one big enough for him fit as he was curled up sleeping.
The only sound filling the air was the dragon's heavy breathing as he sleeps, but then a distant bellowing was heard and the dragon's eyes shot open.
He then growled and got up and then roars out loudly as in the distance, a familiar set of dorsal plates sail over the water. It's the monster reptile the dragon fought in the Arctic, and his presence is an uneasy one as he came for another fight.
The monster quickly approaches the the dragon as he roars out, and the monster roars out through the water.
The dragon growled ready to fight as then the dorsal plates sunk under the surface as the dragon looks down at the water. The dragon roars at the water, and then the monster breaches out roaring knocking him aside. The blow was enough for the dragon to stumble back hitting a rock column, and then fell into the water and the rock column then breaks loose and falls on top of him. The dragon struggle as he manages to get his head above water and inhales a deep breath.
The monster begins to circle around.
The dragon and rock soon sunk down to a ledge the sea stack leaving the dragon pinned. And the dragon struggles to get free as the monster begins to approach seeing him trapped. The dragon continues to struggle on the rock pinning him, and then he lets out a muffled roar using all his strength and finally pushed the rock off and got free. The dragon then turns as the monster grapples him as they fought and the creature bites the dragon's left wing, but he grapples his rival's hands and roars as his attackers to snap at him.
But the dragon then rears his head back and then headbutts the monster hard against the head and kicks him back and swims up. The dragon soon manages to haul himself up on the sea stack, he then rose to his full height and then roars out loudly.
He watches his rival's dorsal plate sail over the surface, and he then noticed a much large sea stack standing almost like a large platform. And he then leaps up and glides over and lands hard growling.
The monster's dorsal plates sail towards the sea stack as the dragon stood high and roars out loudly, underwater, the monster roars making his approach.
The dragon fires blast at the water near the monster, and he dives avoiding the flames and nears the sea stack and lunges upwards. He roars lunging out of the water and then hauls himself on the stack, clawing the rock with his claws and stood up roaring turning to his attacker. The dragon roared and then slams his head against his rival's head as the impact made a thunderous sound, and the monster recovers and swipes his right hand at the dragon's face as he was knocked back on his side.
The monster prepares to fire, but the dragon recovered and his tail knocks him back as he got up again. And then body slams against the monster knocking him into the water.
Underwater, the monster recovers and his dorsal plates flashed with a pulsating throb.
Above him, the dragon saw the glow below and quickly turns. And the monster fires his blast upward as the dragon leaps off the sea stack as part of it was blown off as the dragon hits the water.
The dragon looks around through the water, and the monster lunges from behind and the two fought as eventually, the dragon kicks the monster's face and begins to swim up. He quickly swims to the surface, but the monster then grapples him and then wraps his tail around the dragon's neck and begins to drag him down. The dragon struggled to get free from his rival's grip but was proving difficult as the monster dives deeper and the dragon roars running low on air.
On the surface, all was calm for a few minutes.
And then suddenly the dragon erupts out of the water roaring, and falls back with a colossal splash creating a large wave. He soon surfaces again and weakly pulls himself onto the sea stack as he barely managed to get free in time.
He then drops on his side as the monster soon surfaces nearby seeing the weak dragon. The dragon remained still but glaring at his rival lightly snarling, and the monster glared back and then soon dives down.
A month later, the monster reptile rose up from the water strides onto the shore of Dragon Island and walks by the old cave entrance where the voracious Red Death once lived.
the monster walks off, but was unaware that he wasn't alone here.
Growling then echoed in the cave, and the dragon who was resting inside and crawls out and looks around and soon saw the monster walking off and the roars out.
The monster stops in his tracks and looks back, and then turns to face his rival.
Both giant reptiles stood sizing each other up as the monster lifts his tail up and then swiftly slams it down hard on the ground as a display of his strength.
But the dragon wasn't deterred as he lifts his tail and slams hard against the ground and stomps as well and growls.
The monster glared and then roars out, and the dragons as well as this fight is to the death.
The monster then charges roaring out with his claws out.
Both near each other as then the monster bites down on the dragon's neck as they fought.
The monster bites down again on the dragon's neck as his tail thrashed around hitting the side of a rock formation as pieces of it broke apart. The dragon struggles in his grip but manages to swing his head around and bites down on the monster's neck hard. The monster growled letting go and they both lunged at each other with open jaws and the bites down on the side of the dragon's neck and grapples with his claws and thrashed from side-to-side as the dragon's tail struck a section of rock face off and the monster bites down on the dragon's neck again as the he claws his shoulder. And the dragon pulls free and roars out, and the monster roars out lunging. And then the dragon then lifts his right hand and then claws the monster's left side of his neck, he then the monster twirl striking his tail at the dragon knocking him back a little.
The dragon got up and then charges as the monster got ready, he lunges into the air and the monster sidesteps as he slams against the side of the mountain.
The dragon shook his head as then the monster bites down on his shoulder, and then threw him against a rock tower as it falls over. The monster's dorsal plates lit up preparing to fire, but the dragon slams his hand against the monster's head knocking his aim off. The dragon bites down on his head and then twirls around dragging him and throws him as they both stumble back.
The dragon regains his footing and charges as the monster prepares to fire, but the dragon counters it with a claw swipe to the face. And then the dragon momentarily stood on his tail and then kicks the monster back as he hits the ground hard.
The dragon snorted and roars out.
The monster confronts him again as the dragon manages to hold him back by his left hand, and the monster then prepares to fire as his mouth glowed. But the dragon's tail lifts up and whacks him in the face as he pushed the monster back. But the monster then shoves the dragon back as he inhaled deeply and then fires at him.
The dragon then quickly uses his wings to shield himself as the blast struck them as him was them pushed back. The blast soon ceases but the dragon remains unharmed as his wings and plates were glowing blue now.
The monster then charges knocking the dragon back and he hits the ground hard, but recovers and then bites down on the monster's left leg as he roared in pain and shoved back.
The dragon soon recovers but then flees as the monster fires at him. The dragon flees through the island's terrain as the blast was behind him. The dragon leaps in the air, but a blast then struck him on the back as he hits the ground hard.
And the monster let out growl-like laugh.
The dragon soon recovers and climbs a cliff as the blast stream follows him and he leaps on a rock tower as it soon tips over.
Then using the plateau as cover, the dragon rush towards the monster and leaps up with his wings in front of him as the monster fires as his wings lit up again. And the dragon roars out loudly and then fires a blue blast at the monster's head hard as then both were knocked back as the hits the ground.
And the monster out cold falls back into a rock tower as it broke apart.
The dragon soon recovers and snorted, and retreats into the dust cloud.
A while later, the monster soon recovers and got up and snorted as his dorsal plates flashed. And then starts looking for the dragon.
Unaware he was hiding on a rock tower nearby.
Not noticing him, the dragon then fires a blast at the mountain behind the monster as he turns turning to the explosion. And the dragons leaps towards as the monster looked back as the dragon pounced on him crashing against the mountainside. The dragon grips hard with his claws as the monster snaps at and the dragon grips his head and slams it against the mountain.
The monster then struggles as he the dragon held on attacking him as he tries to get him off. And then the monster slams against the side of a mountain hard stunning the dragon. And the grabs the dragon's wrist and bites down hard as he roars in pain.
The monster then throws him off as the dragon hits the ground, and the monster attempts to stomp him holding his foot up high. But the dragon moves back avoiding his foot as it stomps down, the monster then bites his wing as the the dragon tries to pull free. And then the monster twirls dragging the dragon and throws him as he crashed against a mountain and growls in pain.
Then pounding footsteps was heard as he saw the monster charging towards him, and he got out of the way as the monster roared and rams into the mountainside. The monster pulls free and the tail whips the dragon off his feet, and then he got on all fours and roared crawling after him as the dragon tries to get away.
The monster snaps at him, but then bites down on the dragon's leg and tries to pull free. Then the dragon slams his tail against the monster's face hard and tries to get away. But the monster lunges and swipes his face with his hand claws, and then knocks him on his back and then violently claws his chest leaving gash wounds as the dragon growls in pain.
And then the monster pins down the dragon with foots, and then the dragon bites down on the monster's wound on his leg as he roars out loudly in pain.
The monster then lifts his foot up and then stomps down hard on his chest and then firmly placed more weight on the dragon as he struggles to get free, and turns back on the monster.
The monster then lowers down growling with a glare and snorted
The dragon grunts baring his teeth.
Then the monster lets out a thunderous ear-piercing roar at the dragon viciously as the dragon cringes a little from the thunderous sound and then roars out loudly back as the two were in a roardown. And the monster was the first to stop as the dragon soon followed.
The monster soon rose up and strangely looked somewhat impressed by the dragon's fighting spirit and snorted.
The dragon growled under his weight, and then the monster suddenly lifts his foot off him as he growled in pain. And he soon manages to get to his feet and crawls back away from the monster.
Both giants stared at each other in a stalemate, but the monster made a slight gesture with his head.
The dragon's stance then lower, and then yields as he bows down. And the monster then roars out loudly, and then he turns and strides out as the dragon watches him leave as a truce was drawn.
and soon, the monster's dorsal plates sailed over the water and soon vanished under the surface.
As the monster soon vanishes in the depths of the North Atlantic.
The next day, many miles away on New Berk, unaware of the epic battle, Hiccup and his family were heading to the lake as he had the day off.
As they walked, Astrid noticed Hiccup a little quiet while Zephyr and Nuffink were a little bit ahead of them.
"You okay?" Astrid asked.
"Yeah." Hiccup assured. "Just missed Toothless."
"I know." Astrid said. "Me too."
"I just wish I could see him just once more." Hiccup said. "Even one last time would be enough for me."
They soon got to the lake, but they were then in for a surprise.
On the shore of the lake was Toothless, Luna, and the Night Lights.
"Toothless?" Hiccup said shocked.
They then went over to them.
"What are you doing here, bud?" Hiccup asked.
"I guess they wanted one last visit." Astrid guessed.
And soon, they started spending time with each other. Zephyr and Nuffink playing with the Night Lights, Hiccup and Toothless playing with each other as well as with the kids, and Astrid and Luna keeping an eye on them and eventually joined in.
Later, Hiccup had just finished a drawing of them all.
"Dad, check this out." Zephyr said.
Hiccup closed his journal and saw Dart with a stick in her mouth and had just finished a drawing in the sand of them.
"Wow." Hiccup said amazed.
"I know." Astrid said also impressed. "Amazing."
"Now I wonder where she gets that from." Hiccup said turning to Toothless.
Toothless crooned and nuzzled his daughter as Dart purred.
Close to sunset, both families were having their final goodbye.
"Bye, Dart." Zephyr said stroking Dart. "I'll miss you."
Dart then purred.
"Bye Pouncer and Ruffrunner." Nuffink said hugging the two brothers.
"Take care, Luna." Astrid said with a hand on Luna's head.
Luna crooned and nuzzled Astrid.
"I'll miss you, too, girl." Astrid said hugging her.
Hiccup and Toothless watched close by as Dart, Pouncer, and Ruffrunner went over to Astrid.
"Well, bud." Hiccup said. "It's been a great run."
Toothless warbled as Zephyr and Nuffink gave their final goodbye to Luna and hugged her.
"We both have own lives now." Hiccup said as Astrid joined. "Our own families to look after."
"Yeah." Astrid said. "Thank you, Toothless. For everything."
"And, hopefully, dragons will return someday." Hiccup said.
Toothless looked back to his family and back to Hiccup and Astrid, and then he pulls them both into a hug as they hugged him as well as Zephyr and Nuffink joined in.
They soon ended the hug, and Toothless joins by his family and they soon headed off as the Night Lights made one last look to the Haddock family and flew off.
The family of four stood for a little, and soon begin to head home. And Hiccup made looked back once more as Toothless came back and the two stared as Toothless purred, and Hiccup lightly smiled.
After a few more moments, Toothless turns and rushed off.
Hiccup smiled and walks off.
And Toothless, Luna, and the Night-Lights flew in the air making the long trip home.
That night, Toothless and his family were peacefully asleep in the cave were he and Hiccup have stayed.
Toothless woke up and turns to the painting of him and Hiccup and his family, and he lightly smiled and soon went back to sleep.
At New Berk, Hiccup was out on the porch looking at the night sky as Astrid joined him after tucking the kids into bed.
"You okay?" Astrid asked.
"Yeah, sure gonna miss them though." Hiccup said.
"Me too." Astrid said.
She then suddenly punched his shoulder hard.
"That's for being gone for so long and having me scared." Astrid said.
"Yeah, yeah, I deserved that." Hiccup said rubbing his shoulder.
"And this... is for coming back." Astrid said with a loving smile.
They then kissed each other and looked at the stars.

I meant to get this published yesterday, but got a little sidetracked and was at a friend's house watching an NC State basketball game.
I'm not entirely sure how long The New Empire took place after Godzilla vs. Kong, but I think at least 3 years. I mean Jia has to be 13 or 14 by now in it, right?
Anyway, I hope the opening of the story was good with Hiccup trapping Jormungandr. I think at least the flashback seen in Season 8 may have happened sometime within 2 years after the end of the third film.
Meantime, I got 2 more chapters planned before merging with the film. And I think you may like what the next chapter will show.
