Normal POV

The following day, Elena was in her bedroom getting ready to go to school to help with the preparations for Founders' Day, but first she wanted to know how Stefan was doing after everything he'd been through the day before. But when she called her boyfriend Damon answered her.

-I'm supposed to help build the Miss Mystic Falls float for the parade. If not, I'll suffer the wrath of Caroline that wants all the volunteers working. But how is everything?- Elena asked while she was putting her belongings in her bag to go to school.

-Well, I'm doing great, thanks for asking- he thanked teasingly sitting in Stefan's bedroom.

-Not you, Stefan- she clarified with a small smile, hoping to know about her boyfriend.

-Oh, him? He's terrible- told her the older one, pretending to be very serious to add drama.

-What's the matter?- wanted to know worried the brunette, already thinking what could've happened to the other vampire in the short time they had been apart.

-He's boring again, he doesn't drink human blood. You were successful in curing him of anything interesting about his personality- he explained how his brother was, pretending to feel unwell. But inwardly, he felt slightly good that he was already getting better, even if he was unbearable.

-Don't forget you helped me- she reminded him smiling, relaxed that the guy was better.

-I hate myself for that- he replied smiling, but then he became serious- Hey, did uncle John mention anything about my expedition with the teacher?- inquired the vampire, wanting to know if he had already discovered what he had done with Alaric.

-No, I'm still avoiding him. Why? What's he up to?- she questioned, interested by his words.

-I don't know. But I'd love if you could find out for me- Damon asked trying to stay calm and turning his back to the door, while he listened to Stefan come in after taking a shower.

-I gotta go, it's late- Elena said goodbye after finishing getting ready to leave the house.

-Good luck with the mystic queen, she tends to be more intense than usual when planning things- Damon said goodbye as well while he joked about his sister. While it was true what he had told her about her, Caroline could be a little energetic when in organizing mode. The vampire turned around to talk to Stefan, who was looking at him confused- Elena called- he clarified giving him his cell phone and left his bedroom, more relaxed after disturbing the younger one.

At school, everyone was working on the float and other preparations for the Founders' Day parade. All the teachers were coordinating everything, but that hadn't stopped Caroline from trying to take control of some of the preparations, even more when she saw that Matt and Tyler weren't talking to each other as well as Elena with Bonnie. She knew that they all had their problems, but she wouldn't let them ruin the event where she would be the center of attention.

Just then she heard Alaric giving assignments to all the students, while she was taking over directing the decorating of the float. The blonde girl was sitting in the school cafeteria with Bonnie to show her what she wanted them to do.

-Let's see last year's Miss Mystic float- the heretic commented while she typed on her computer to look for some pictures- This is what they did last year- she turned the device to show her what she'd found on the internet- And this is exactly what we don't want- she stated firmly as it was something horrible, while the younger one seemed to agree with her.

-Ew, okay. And what are we doing?- she asked after watching the pictures interested in the topic and looking at the older girl, with whom she liked to be even when she was a vampire.

-Southern classic elegance. Let's say I've had some inspiration- she told her a bit proud of her idea, she liked the clothes of that era and thought that it was elegant. Also, she had dressed like that for years.

-It would be nice. Like the time of the town's foundation? That was your inspiration?- the girl wanted to know, thinking it was a good idea and that she had surely been inspired by herself.

-That's why the parade is more important this year. Besides, they used to wear clothes like that when I was human, and I thought it was a good idea- she revealed in a low voice and the other one nodded smiling. Then Caroline asked for Elena as she had to help there, but upon noticing the witch a little uncomfortable she couldn't help but intervene to help them- You two are still not talking to each other?- the blonde girl suddenly blurted out leaving the other girl a little puzzled.

-What do you mean? We're good- she tried to deny to avoid talking about it.

-Come on, I know things are going badly. I understand why you only talk to me, and at least you do or everything would be a mess- she said a bit serious and continued- The preparations should be about working as a team but everyone is fighting. Matt and Tyler hate each other, and you and Elena don't talk to each other- she sentenced hoping that this push would help them in their problem.

-I thought that you'd side with your brothers for being like them, but at least I don't mind being with you. And I can speak to someone who knows about this. Do you think that I'm wrong for feeling like this?- Bonnie inquired doubtfully as she lowered her gaze.

-Of course you're not wrong, it's logical you are angry or uncomfortable for talking to them, although I admit that you behave in a very controlled way. And about Elena, it's fine you don't wanna make her choose a side, but in that be careful since it hurts not only her, but you too. You could try to close your eyes and let your instincts help you know what to do- suggested Caroline in an understanding and friendly tone wanting to comfort her.

-I don't know if I'm ready to talk to Elena or your brothers. But I feel that maybe when the right time comes, I will know what to do with Elena. It's just that all of this is awkward- the younger girl admitted feeling more and more relaxed and understood by the older girl's words.

-If you wanna talk to me about anything, you can do it whenever you want. I want you to know that I understand your anger and what you feel, it's not wrong that you feel upset. If you don't want to talk about it that's fine, but it's not good to ignore things hoping that all will fix itself. Sometimes a little push helps us make decisions- advised her the heretic with a mixture of softness and firmness, and saw the witch nod.

-I don't wanna talk for now, but thank you for understanding Caroline. I'm glad someone does- she thanked with a small smile that was reciprocated and the girl changed the subject for her liking. It was nice to have Caroline as a friend, she understood her and gave good advice.

For his part Damon had received a call from Alaric to meet Stefan, Elena and him at the school for an important matter. Upon arriving they told him that Isobel, the brunette girl's biological mother, had shown up in town the night before.

-Did you ask her about uncle John? Are they working together?- the vampire began with his questions while looking at the human, who shook his head- No they're not?- he wanted to make sure.

-I didn't ask her- excused the human standing next to his desk in the classroom.

-What about the invention?- he kept asking for an answer, but saw him deny again- Does she know about the tomb vampires?- he inquired while he paced the room.

-I don't know- Alaric clarified glancing among him, Stefan and Elena, who were watching them.

-Did you run out of words?- questioned annoyed the oldest one, approaching the older human, since it seemed that he hadn't gotten any information for them.

-No, I was too distracted by my dead vampire wife to ask any questions- argued irritably the man at the accusations that he was receiving from him.

-What did she want?- Damon asked, turning to Elena who had remained seated.

-She wants to see me Damon- she confessed seriously, surprising the vampire a little with her answer.

-Alaric is supposed to arrange a meeting. We don't know why or what she wants- explained Stefan who'd been standing near the window, worried about his girlfriend.

-You don't have to see her if you don't want to- the older vampire reminded the brunette girl, confusing his brother a bit by his attitude towards her, whom he looked at after looking at Damon.

-I don't really have a choice- replied the girl as if she was surrendered to Isobel.

-She threatened to go on killing spree- Alaric revealed intervening in the conversation again.

-Oh, I guess you guys don't like that- added the oldest man with a kind of cheerful tone trying to relax the atmosphere, but internally he wanted to get rid of the woman that came out of nowhere.

-I want to do it, I want to meet her. If I don't, I know I'll regret it- Elena decided with a firm tone while she stared at Damon, so that the 3 men in the room would understand that she wasn't going to change her mind no matter what they told her.

That afternoon, Elena met Isobel at the Grill while Stefan stood at a pool table listening to the entire conversation. The younger vampire revealed to her that she knew Katherine, who had given her her daylight necklace and had gotten close to her out of "genetic curiosity", but she wouldn't tell her anything about her real father. The things that surprised her most of Isobel was how little she cared about human life, that she knew Stefan was spying on them and she'd hinted to her that Elena wanted to be with Stefan and Damon at the same time, like Katherine.

While mother and daughter spoke at the Grill with Stefan as a witness, Damon had to stay outside in front of the place with Alaric, just in case of emergency.

-We should be there- said Damon, walking over, feeling helpless for doing nothing.

-No. Isobel told me we couldn't interfere- replied seriously the human without moving.

-I'm not going to kill her in a restaurant- clarified the vampire, stopping for a second to look at him.

-You're not going to kill her, period- he ordered staring at him so he'd understand his request.

-She ruined your life and you still want to protect her?- he asked while looking at him in disbelief.

-She's my wife- the human began to explain, but when he received a glare from the older he began again- She was my wife. I looked for my wife but she wasn't there. Whoever that is, she's cold and detached- he argued as he looked at him, but the vampire was turning his back to him.

-Yeah, she's given up her humanity- Damon commented relaxing, turning around to look at him again.

-Yes, I don't get that. Stefan has his humanity, he's a good guy. Caroline seems to be a good girl, but she gets threatening out of nowhere. And you're a dick and you kill people but I see something human in you. But with her, there is nothing- explained Alaric interested in that subject.

-You can turn it off, like a button you press. Caroline is weird, she has her humanity since she's a good girl, but she tends to be violent and impulsive when she gets angry or feels in danger. Stefan's different, he wants the whole human experience, he wants to feel every episode of How I Met Your Mother, so then he keeps his emotions. The problem is that as a vampire, your instinct is not to feel- clarified Damon as he stood next to him and thought about what to say.

-What about Isobel? You think she just turned it off?- hesitated the human curious about his answer.

-Isobel chose the easier road. No regret, no guilt, no shame. If you could turn it off, would you?- the vampire asked, looking sideways at him, wondering what he would answer.

-You don't- replied Alaric without looking at him, internally thinking about that "button".

-Of course I do, Ric, that's why I'm so funny- he commented humorously and then went back to walking, wondering what Elena and Isobel were talking about. Inside, mother and daughter were still talking, but the younger girl was a bit uncomfortable with the chatter.

-Why did you want to meet me? Can't be to just catch up- Elena insinuated, tired of the talk, she didn't understand why she wanted to see her if so far she'd only said terrible things.

-I'm curious about you. But the real reason is that I want the same thing your uncle wants, Johnathan Gilbert's invention- confessed the vampire with confidence and calmness.

-How do you know my uncle?- she asked her puzzled by that, it was something she didn't expect.

-I spent a lot of time here when I was young. John had a crush on me for years. He was the first one that told me about vampires- the older woman explained to her, being careful with what she said.

-So what made you want to be one?- questioned the younger brunette.

-It's a very long list of reasons Elena. I'm sure that you've thought about all of them- Isobel stated firmly, but she saw the girl shook her head- That was your first lie. It is inevitable, you will grow old, Stefan won't- she reminded her seriously. Elena couldn't help glancing at her boyfriend, who seemed saddened by that fact- Forever doesn't last very long when you are human- she added.

-I'm sorry but I don't have what you're looking for- Elena said annoyed by what she had told her and got up to leave, but out of nowhere Isobel took her wrist so she wouldn't move.

-Sit down. And tell your boyfriend to walk away- ordered the older one, knowing Stefan was trying to get closer to them. Elena looked at the guy and nodded to let him know that he could stay in that place since she was fine- I want the invention- she repeated while she stared at her.

-I don't have it- insisted the brunette girl after sitting back down at the table with her.

-I know that, but Damon does and you'll get it for me- she declared in a cold tone.

-He's not going to give it to me- Elena affirmed believing that the vampire wouldn't do that, not even for her.

-Then the blood will be on your hands. Nice to meet you Elena- she said goodbye, getting up from the table and left, leaving Elena with tears in her eyes as Stefan got near.

Before the vampire managed to approach her, Bonnie appeared and stared at her best friend. The witch felt the desire to go talk to her friend as she looked very affected by something, but upon seeing Stefan appear behind Elena's back she exchanged glances between them, and she saw the brunette do the same between Bonnie and Stefan. A few moments later Bonnie turned and left the Grill, leaving Elena alone with the vampire.

Upon arriving home, Isobel met Damon who had gone for her so they could talk about her meeting with Elena. The younger one revealed to him that she didn't want the invention for herself but for Katherine, who wanted John to get it and he knew that the vampire would be very angry if she didn't get what she wanted. But Damon threatened Isobel that he would kill her if she kept bothering Elena, aside from telling her that Katherine went to town if she wanted the invention.

Bonnie had stayed up thinking about what had happened with Elena and what she'd talked to Caroline about not leaving things like that and ignoring the problem, so she decided to go to talk to her best friend. She arrived at the Gilbert house and rang the doorbell, and was greeted by the brunette girl.

-Hey- greeted Elena, surprised to see her friend at her door after what had occurred.

-Hi, I couldn't sleep last night. You were obviously upset about something and I just walked away. It's not me, that can't be us. I realised I had to fix things instead of ignoring you thanks to Caroline- she started to tell her hoping the older girl would forgive her.

-Caroline told you to come here?- she asked astonished by the heretic's actions.

-She told me that I couldn't leave things like this, and she's right. You're my friend Elena, if you need me I'm here, and I'm sorry I didn't show you that yesterday- she apologized and stared at her waiting for her to speak.

-I met my birth mother- confessed the girl with some tears in her eyes.

-Oh, how was it?- the witch inquired surprised at such a fact and saw that the older girl still seemed affected- Are you okay?- she kept speaking worriedly, she saw her shaking her head so she entered the house and hugged Elena, letting her cry on her shoulder.

After speaking for a few hours, Elena and Bonnie went to the school to keep working on the preparations for the parade. Bonnie brought Emily's grimoire to show her friend that the witch had enchanted the Gilbert inventions, since Johnathan had failed to get them to work on their own, to help protect the town. Also she told the girl that the invention that Isobel wanted was actually a weapon against the vampires.

-Hey, do you think Caroline knew anything about this thing Emily did?- Elena wondered curious as she thought of that possibility. She had let it slip in front of Bonnie that the blonde was half witch since she thought that she already knew, leaving the Bennett very surprised who thought why the Salvatore girl hadn't told her about her secret.

-I don't think so. In the grimoire says that she didn't tell anyone. But earlier I found some pages that talk about Caroline- she told her while she turned to another page. Apparently the book had some parts that served like a diary- According to this Emily saw her doing magic and revealed to her she was a witch, and then discovered that she was a siphoner- she recounted what her ancestor had written.

-Did she write anything else of her? As if they ever did magic together, something like that?- insisted the brunette somewhat interested in the heretic's story, she seemed mysterious.

-She said that a couple times they talked about magic, but the short time that they met Caroline was barely in the house and at first she seemed a little cold and saddened. Also it seems that Emily didn't like Salvatore witches, but that she was an exception despite being a siphoner- she clarified switching to another page that also talked about the blonde girl.

-What does she mean with "despite being a siphoner"?- she questioned confused for that, Stefan and Damon had just told her a couple of things about the girl but nothing very important.

-She wrote here that siphoners were considered a myth and were very rare. They were said to be mistreated by witches, they were considered defective or inferior as they had no magic of their own. Apparently that's why the few that existed lived hidden from the world, or from the witches- Bonnie explained, feeling angry and surprised by what she had read.

-They suffered mistreatment for not having magic? Poor siphoners, now I get why Caroline is so reserved about being a heretic- exclaimed Elena feeling bad for the blonde.

-Yeah. And she must be even more so for being half vampire, who are already hated by some witches- the witch supposed, but then she became serious and turned to another page- But this other part has something strange. Here says that Emily couldn't speak about Caroline's nature with anybody- she revealed, leaving her friend puzzled and confused by that particular detail.

-What? What did she mean by that part?- the brunette inquired with her arms crossed.

-Whenever she was with Caroline she could talk about it, but when she tried to tell anyone else, it seemed as if she didn't know anything about that. Time later she did a spell to see what was wrong with her and discovered that she'd been spelled- Bonnie confessed leaving the girl shocked, she couldn't believe that this had happened to Emily.

-Do you think that Caroline had something to do with it?- asked Elena a bit uncomfortable thinking if the blonde had been able to do something like that years ago, and she hoped that the witch didn't think it possible either. But Bonnie just shrugged her shoulders just as doubtful.

After that, Elena went to look for Stefan to tell him everything when she found Jeremy who kept asking about Anna. Denying knowing about her, the younger accused her of lying to him again and told her that he knew Anna was a vampire and that Elena knew it, then he ran away worrying the girl. The brunette girl was calling him so he'd explain what he was talking about, but out of nowhere Isobel appeared behind her.

-Isobel, what are you doing here?- she asked, feeling even worse when she saw her again.

-I'm your mother Elena, I want to be involved in your life- the older woman commented as if it were nothing.

-I don't want you in my life- she decreed irritated, hoping to know what she wanted there for her to leave.

-I understand that. You have a lot of people that you care about, but I've been studying you. Let's see if I got this right- the vampire clarified with humor and pointed to Bonnie who was passing by them- That's your witchy best friend Bonnie, I will stay away from that one. Sad little brother Jeremy- she started to explain her pointing to the boy and then she pointed to Caroline who was busy in the float- There is Caroline the annoying Salvatore little sister. And there's Matt, friend, ex, blondie's future ex, he was the one who told me all of you with some compulsion. You have lots of connections- she finished explaining pointing to Matt, and worrying Elena for all she knew.

-Matt's not involved in this- declared the younger girl angrily wanting her to get away from the boy.

-He's involved with you, isn't he?- replied Isobel curtly to get her point across.

-Look, you shouldn't be here. You have to leave- warned the brunette, very annoyed with her.

-No, I have friends here too. Look, you see the man over there, standing next to Matt by the float? His name is Frank, he's handsome and he's also very skilled. He noticed that the axles are a bit rusty, which is very dangerous. So, all you have to do is apply a little bit of pressure and…- the vampire told her pointing to a man standing next to his friend.

Frank out of nowhere jumped on the float crushing Matt's arm, who was working on the place, and caused quite a scandal. Unable to move for Isobel's fault, Elena saw the human screaming as the boys tried to lift the trailer without success, until Stefan arrived and he helped them lift it freeing Matt who was in great pain.

-Caroline, call an ambulance- ordered Stefan to his sister when he saw her trying to get to the boy, she nodded and took her phone, as Isobel held Elena's arm.

-Why are you doing this?- questioned her the brunette, upset and worried for her friend.

-I'm showing you how easy it is to hurt the people that you care about- she remarked as if it were nothing, which disgusted the girl when she thought that this person was her biological mother.

-And you're doing this for Johnathan Gilbert's invention?- Elena exclaimed puzzled.

-Hand it over and all will be stop- the older woman warned her again coldly.

-I told you. Damon is not going to give it to me- she repeated, tired of repeating that so many times.

-I think that you underestimate the affection that Damon has for you- Isobel commented, staring at her.

-He'll kill you before he gives it up- clarified the younger one with certainty and irritation.

-Before or after I kill your brother Jeremy?- she threatened her again, which frightened Elena who turned to look for her brother, only to see that he had disappeared. The brunette started to call out to him in panic when Isobel left, drawing Stefan's attention.

-The ambulance says it will be here in 15-20 minutes- Caroline announced after finishing the call and walked towards Matt to check on him, kneeling down next to him.

-I have my car. I can take him to the hospital- Tyler offered to help his friend.

-No. Caroline can take me- refused the blond boy, upsetting the heretic.

-I told you that I'll get my car tomorrow- she reminded him irritated by the show that he was making out of anger.

-I'll wait. It's fine- Matt sentenced stubbornly and that was enough for her.

-You will not wait, okay? You need to see a doctor so just accept the help. Tyler will take you and end of story- ordered Caroline angry leaving the people around her surprised, as Matt just accepted the help- Go!- she ordered the other boy.

-I'll bring my car around- Tyler said getting out of surprise at the girl's temper and ran to his car. Matt stood silently looking at Caroline, who touched his face to comfort him.

As Caroline went to accompany Matt, Stefan with Elena and Bonnie were taking charge of the Gilbert device. They wanted to get it so they could get Jeremy, but Stefan thought that if it was harmful to vampires, then Damon would never give it up as the three of them would be in danger. Then it occurred to Elena they could have Bonnie to remove the magic that made it work so they could give it up, so they went to talk to Damon.

-I'm not gonna give the device to Isobel so she could give it to John who is going to turn it to kill me. I like being a living dead person- Damon refused their crazy idea completely.

-But it'll be useless. Bonnie can take its power away- Elena tried to explain to convince him.

-I don't trust her. I only trust one witch, the mystic queen- he said thinking of his sister.

-I know well that you only trust Caroline, but I can remove the original spell- Bonnie assured him with confidence, but she just managed to puzzle the vampires for naming the blonde, they looked at Elena who glanced in another direction with some embarrassment.

-You really told her? Caroline told you not to tell anyone anything, and she clarified who did know it- the older vampire reminded her, as he ran a hand over his face at the thought of the future anger that the heretic would have once she found it out. Stefan in turn kept quiet, though he agreed with him.

-It was an accident! I thought Bonnie, being a witch like her, already knew about it. But how bad is it that she knows?- she asked a little curious of the possible reaction of the blonde vampire.

-Caroline isn't nice when she gets angry, and maybe she'll get angry when she finds out that someone knows since she wants to make sure she's safe. The important thing is that at least for some time no one else finds out. She has a limit and it's not good for someone to pass it- warned Stefan, a little curioud about his sister's possible reaction when she found out.

-Let's think about the problem later. Now let's go back to the main thing. Isobel and John wil never notice the spell- the brunette resumed, trying to focus on her own brother.

-Are you even up for this?- asked Damon who turned to Bonnie- I mean, no offense but you aren't Emily Bennett. Emily knew what she was doing- he commented waiting to see if they could convince him.

-I've been practising- answered confidently Bonnie but for the vampire it wasn't much.

-It's not piano lessons honey. Magic is a little more complicated, okay?- clarified the oldest one as he'd seen his sister do magic for more than a century. After the witch did a little demonstration of the practice in which with telekinesis she threw a book towards Damon, he began to wonder if it was a good idea to trust the apprentice witch.

-Nice trick but I don't know. It's hard to trust a witch who's been practising for months when we have one here who's been doing it for a long time. Not to mention that said witch with experience can absorb magic from objects and could easily take care of the device- the vampire tried to reason with them a bit, while referring to the heretic.

-Damon, I know Caroline can do it, but I tried to call her and she's not answering. She must be at the hospital with Matt- added Stefan staring at his brother, who looked doubtfully at him.

-We're gonna do it Damon, and we're doing it my way. Give me the device, you don't trust her but you trust me- Elena asked seriously again, and the older man glanced at everyone in the room to look at the girl again and after thinking about it gave her the artifact- Thank you- thanked the younger one.

Elena gave the device to Bonnie, who opened Emily's grimoire on the page that showed the object and started the spell, being watched by the vampires and Elena. After finishing she handed the device back to her friend and she with the Salvatores went to see Isobel and her minions. Upon discovering Jeremy was at home safe, Elena handed the device to Isobel claiming that she'd taken a risk believing that Damon would give her the invention, but the vampire woman revealed that she hadn't as Damon was in love with Elena.

Later, Damon was in the mansion's library pouring himself a drink and thinking about what had happened that day when he heard footsteps, turned his head and saw that it was Stefan.

-Would you like one?- offered the older one, but he kept quiet- Say it, whatever it is, just let it out- he asked mockingly without looking at him and then drank a little from his glass.

-It's about what Isobel said- Stefan began to say while his brother turned to look at him.

-What about that?- he asked pretending that he didn't care about the thing with Elena at all.

-I know that you and Elena are friends. And that she cares about you and I know that you care about her- clarified the vampire looking at him seriously and trying to keep his face calm.

-Well, this is going in an interesting direction- the older vampire commented smirking with interest.

-I'm just concerned about Elena getting hurt, she considers you a friend- he explained him, smiling a bit at seeing him trying to avoid the subject and walked a little down the corridor of the library.

-Same here, she's a good friend. Actually, I think she might qualify as my only friend. Is that a problem?- the older one asked, looking relaxed as he looked at the other guy.

-So, at the risk of sounding like, uh, a jealous boyfriend- tried to start explaining to him the younger one.

-Oh, there's no risk, you do- added Damon mockingly out of nowhere, making him smile again.

-History will not be repeating itself as far as Elena is concerned. Do you understand what I'm saying?- he declared as he stared at him from the stairs that connected the hallway of the library with the living room.

-Sure, sure- he said trying to look interested in what he was saying and turned around, but the other one ran until he was in front of him using his vampire speed.

-Do you understand?- he repeated, standing firm so that he understood the seriousness of the matter.

-Whatever you say. Honestly, we are friends and as a friend I wasn't looking forward to telling her the truth anyway. So I'll let you do it- Damon hinted, moving a little away from the guy and sipping his drink.

-What truth?- questioned the younger one crossing his arms, interested in what he said.

-About John. Because I know that you guys don't like to keep secrets from each other- he clarified so that he'd get what he was saying as he poured himself another drink.

-What are you talking about?- he asked again, not understanding what Damon meant.

-Am I the only one here with the ability to put two and two together? Isobel, hello?- Damon indicated irritated, more so when he saw the guy shrugging his shoulders- She dated John when she was 15, she gets pregnant and ends up at the doctor office of John's brother. What do you think John's role is in all this? I mean, go ahead, think about it- explained the older vampire with exasperation and obviousness- I'll wait. Did you get it?- he asked ironically as he stared at him.

-So you think John is Elena's father?- Stefan suggested, making him nod while he made a bell-like sound- What proof do you have?- inquired the younger guy after smiling a little.

-I don't need proof. That DNA test is for John, Elena and the scandal shows. But I know how well you deal with these bombs so sleep tight while I go out- said goodbye the vampire as he turned around to leave, but he stopped at the stairs of the library and looked at him- Oh and when you do tell Elena and she needs a friend to talk about anything, I'll be here- he added seriously to finally leave, while Stefan stared at him.

While at the Gilbert house, John received the invention from Isobel, who reminded him that Katherine wanted all the tomb vampires dead while she wanted to add the three Salvatores to the list. Stefan and Damon to protect Elena from the vampires as she was their daughter, and the blonde girl because she was a vampire and would hurt them as revenge after they killed her brothers. After that, Isobel left Mystic Falls.

Later, Damon had arranged with Caroline to talk to her about the invention at her house after she returned. She opened the door and they sat in the living room with a drink each, they got to talking about their day when the older man explained the issue with Bonnie.

-What? You guys gave the device to Bonnie so she would deactivate it? And you didn't give it to me who can absorb magic? Apart from that she knows that I'm half witch?- Caroline asked him irritated and puzzled after his explanation of the whole problem.

-Elena told her about your magic by accident. And since she's a witch, she convinced her to take its magic away to give it to Isobel- he told her as if it was nothing important and drank from his drink.

-And how are you sure that it doesn't work anymore? You couldn't test it, and you don't have my ability to feel the energy in objects- she inquired suspiciously from what he had told her.

-We saw her cast the spell, there's nothing to worry about with that invention- the vampire assured her, but he saw the doubtful face of the younger girl- Why do you have that face?- he questioned intrigued.

-I wouldn't trust Bonnie very much on that topic if I were you. I don't wanna be mean, but there's a slight chance that she actually fooled you and that thing still works. That is, it could still kill us- she warned seriously to take a sip of her drink and her brother stared at her.

-The witch is very loyal to Elena, she couldn't betray her friend like that- he affirmed, leaving his glass on the table and leaning a little towards her. He didn't believe that the youngest girl was capable of such a thing.

-But it's not just Elena we are talking about. That object isn't going to do any harm to her friend, but to the people responsible for her grandma' death. Do you really think she would pass up the chance to get rid of those who "threaten innocents"?- she replied ironically, leaving the glass and made quotation marks in the air in the last sentence. But he shook his head.

-But it can't be possible Caroline. We saw her doing the spell, she couldn't fool us like that. The spell looked very real- he argued, though a part of him was no longer sure.

-Do you have any idea how many witches are capable of faking spells to avoid trouble? I'll tell you, a lot, including me. Besides, let's say that our family has never gotten along with them, feeling some tension about what they do is normal for me- she added confusing Damon.

-What do you mean by that? You mean they hated the Bennetts?- he asked, intrigued by what she had insinuated as he leaned back in his seat.

-Something like that, let's say that the Salvatores and them were never good friends when it came to magic. It's that our family believed it wasn't good to judge all of the same species equally, and the Bennetts thought that only witches with magic were strong and humans were innocent creatures, not caring humans have killed witches for centuries- the heretic explained with a resigned voice for that issue, leaning back on the sofa.

-So because they had different opinions they never got along? I admit that our family was kinda right, also it seems that being spiteful comes in the blood- admitted with humor the vampire, taking his glass again and waiting for her to continue telling him that story.

-More or less. They could never agree on the species issues. There was more for the fact that most witches hate siphoners, and some Bennetts were no different than the rest. That is why the Salvatores don't get along very well with them- revealed a summary of the facts.

-So they were mean to you too. I knew that for some reason I never liked them at all- the older man hinted taking a sip, making the blonde girl smile for a few seconds.

-The important thing here is that Bonnie may not be different from her family. She already hates two vampires after what happened with her grandmother, so she'll take the chance to kill them and protect the people of the town- she assured seriously while the older one looked at her with doubt.

-Suppose it's true that she lied to us about the spell, what could we do?- he wondered with doubt and concern for what could happen to him and his siblings.

-I'd tell you, just in case, to have two plans. A: make sure no one turns on the device. And B: if it can't be avoided, hide so that we don't end up affected and get killed- Caroline warned him as she finished her drink and her brother remained in silence. The heretic could see in Damon's face that she'd planted doubts in his mind, so all that it was left was to make sure nothing happened with the three of them. She was capable of anything to protect them, even of killing and manipulating anyone that was necessary. Only a few precautions were necessary.
