Research and Requests (Part Two)
The Loud siblings and Akari all arrive at the top of Aspiration Hill to start working on the pokedex. They look around and see Rei near the base camp.
"Hi, Rei." said Akari.
"Hello, Akari." said Rei. "Are our newest recruits ready to get started?"
"You bet we are." said Lana Loud.
"I can't wait." said Lincoln.
"I, too, am interested in the study of these unique creatures." said Lisa.
"I am glad to hear that." said Professor Laventon from behind them, making everyone look to see him approaching. He then takes out some sheets of paper with pictures of different kinds of Pokemon on them, and hands them out to the Loud siblings.
"What are these?" asked Luan.
"They're research tasks on each kind of Pokemon that be found in this surrounding area." said Professor Laventon. Lincoln looks at one of the sheets of paper he received and sees it had a picture of Cyndaquil on it.
"I take it I'm in charge of Cyndaquil's research?" asked Lincoln.
"Well, he is your partner, so you'll be the most likely one to get data on him." said Professor Laventon. "I also gave you Shinx's research tasks as well."
"Okay, then." said Lincoln.
"We should split into several groups to help get these research tasks done faster." said Lisa.
"Sounds good to me, sis." said Luna.
"I'll have Luna, Luan, and Lily with me." said Lori as she picks up her baby sister while Luan and Luna walk over to them.
"I'll have the twins with me, since we're all sharing Oshawott." said Leni, making the twins walk over to her.
"Me and Lucy are together." said Lynn Jr.
"Okay." said Lucy from behind Lynn Jr, startling her.
"How do you keep doing that?" asked Lynn Jr as she tries to get her heartbeat under control.
"I...don't know." said Lucy as she looks down.
"And I'm with Lincoln." said Lisa, making Lincoln walking over to her.
"How many pokeballs do we each have?" asked Lori.
"We have the thirty that Lana just made fifteen minutes ago in Jubilife Village, plus the seventeen leftover from the ones that Professor Laventon gave us for our trial." said Lisa.
"So that's forty-seven altogether." said Lincoln. "Most of the groups will get twelve pokeballs while one gets eleven."
"Hang on, I have something to give you all." said Akari. She reaches into her satchel and pulls out a small case.
"What's that?" asked Luan.
"It's a travel-size crafting kit." said Akari. "You can use it make things like the pokeballs your sister made, along with Potions like the ones Lincoln has."
"How do you make Potions?" asked Lori. Akari looks towards a tree that had blue berries growing out of it.
"Those berries are Oran Berries." said Akari. "You mix the juices in them with some Medicinal Leeks to make Potions."
"What do Medicinal Leeks look like?" asked Lincoln.
"There's some over there." said Rei as he points towards some dark green plants that were growing nearby.
"Oh, thanks." said Lincoln.
"And just so you know, Oran Berries can heal Pokemon a bit when they eat them." said Rei.
"That's good to know." said Luan.
"How are we supposed to get them down?" asked Lola.
"You can have your Pokemon ram them to shake them loose." said Rei. "It's a great workout for them when they do that."
"You can also use it to break through the red ore I told you about back in the village." said Akari.
"Thanks, Akari." said Lana.
"So, who gets the Crafting Kit?" asked Akari.
"Maybe Lana should hold it?" suggested Luan. "She already has experience with crafting from making those pokeballs."
"Okay then." said Akari as she hands the case to Lana.
"Shall we all get started then?" asked Professor Laventon.
"YEAH!" said the Loud siblings as they raised their fists up while Lincoln's Pokemon who were out with him all cheered as well.
"That's the spirit!" said Professor Laventon. As Lincoln looks at Shinx's research tasks, he had a question regarding one of them.
"This says I have to catch different forms of them." said Lincoln. "What does that mean?"
"It simply means you need to catch a male and female one." said Professor Laventon.
"Oh." said Lincoln. "I'll have to keep my eyes open for a female Shinx since I already have a male one with me."
"Okay, let's split up." said Lori.
"And we have to keep our eyes open for a Wurmple for that one guard." said Luna.
"Oh yeah, and work on the page on Starly for that woman also." said Lori.
"Let's do it." said Lynn Jr as the groups all head out into the Obsidian Fieldlands.
With Lincoln and Lisa, they were looking around the area, trying to find Pokemon to do research on when they spotted a Bidoof that was bigger than Lily's wandering around.
"Should we battle or capture it?" asked Lincoln.
"We can do both." said Lisa. "Two of your Cyndaquil's research tasks is to have him use Quick Attack and Ember." Lincoln looks at Cyndaquil who looks up at him.
"You ready, partner?" Lincoln asked Cyndaquil, getting a nod in response; he then runs in front of Lincoln and gets into a battle stance.
"I will observe and take notes." said Lisa as she gets a pencil ready.
"Cyndaquil, use Quick Attack on Bidoof!" said Lincoln. Cyndaquil moves at the Bidoof with fast speed and rams it, knocking it onto its side; the Bidoof responds by tucking itself into a ball and rolls at high speed into Cyndaquil, sending it skidding across the ground.
"That was Rollout." said Lisa. "It seemed to be very effective against Cyndaquil."
"Are you okay, Cyndaquil?" asked Lincoln. Cyndaquil slowly gets to his feet and nods. "Be careful, I don't want anything bad to happen to you." Cyndaquil smiles at Lincoln's concern for him. "Hit it with Ember!" Cyndaquil opens his mouth and breathes out bits of fire that hit the Bidoof.
"Catch it quickly, brother." said Lisa. Lincoln nods as he takes out an empty pokeball and throws it at the Bidoof, hitting it, and sucking it in; the pokeball wiggles a few times before a firework shoots out the top of it.
"Yes! I got us another Bidoof!" said Lincoln.
"That one appeared to be larger than the one Lily caught." said Lisa. She then looks at the research tasks on Bidoof. "Perhaps it's one of these heavy specimens mentioned on this paper."
"Are you okay, Cyndaquil?" Lincoln asked Cyndaquil, getting a nod in response. He reaches into his satchel and pulls out one of his Potions; he puts it on his hands and rubs it on Cyndaquil's wounds, making them vanish.
"Quite remarkable." said Lisa.
"What gender is this Bidoof?" asked Lincoln as he lets it out. Lisa looks at the pictures of the two different kinds of Bidoofs.
"Judging by these two photos, it's a male one." said Lisa.
"With the one that Lily caught, we have both kinds of Bidoofs." said Lincoln.
"I'm sure that Professor Laventon will be pleased." said Lisa. Lincoln looks around and sees a tree with Oran Berries in it.
"We should grab some of those to make Potions." suggested Lincoln.
"And I shall grab some of those Medicinal Leeks as well." said Lisa. Lincoln looks back at Shinx.
"Can you knock those loose for us?" Lincoln asked. Shinx nods and rams the tree, shaking the Oran Berries loose. After Lincoln thanks him, he gathers the berries and puts them in his satchel, just as Lisa comes back with the Medicinal Leeks.
"Shall we continue with our research?" asked Lisa.
"Let's do it." said Lincoln. He, along with Lisa and his Pokemon head towards a river while having Shinx and Cyndaquil ram the few trees they see along the way, collecting the Apricorns and Oran Berries that fall out of them.
"Let us see what we can find along this river." said Lisa. They all travel along the shore for a bit before coming across a couple of orange, weasel-like Pokemon with yellow rings around their necks, along with two tails.
"What are those?" asked Lincoln. Lisa looks through the research papers that Professor Laventon gave them and finds one with a picture of the Pokemon they're looking at.
"They are called Buizels." said Lisa. The two Pokemon notice the Loud siblings and their Pokemon looking at them and get into defensive positions. One of the Buizels suddenly rockets towards them.
"Watch out!" said Lincoln as she gets in front of Lisa and takes the attack, knocking him down.
"Brother!" shouts Lisa as she, along with Lincoln's Pokemon, rushes over to him.
"I'm fine." said Lincoln as he slowly gets up. The Buizels stare at Lincoln with surprise that he got up after a high-speed hit like that.
"This looks like a perfect opportunity to do research on these Pokemon." said Lisa. Lincoln looks at his Cyndaquil and Shinx.
"You ready for a battle?" Lincoln asked his Pokemon, getting nods in response. They run in front of the Loud siblings and get into battle stances.
"I shall observe and take notes." said Lisa as she takes out a notebook and pencil.
"Cyndaquil and Shinx, use Quick Attack!" said Lincoln. The two Pokemon speed towards the Buizels and ram into them; they react by doing the same thing back at them. "Hit them again, guys!" Cyndaquil and Shinx hit the Buizels with a couple more Quick Attacks, knocking them to the ground.
"Lincoln, you should catch one of them." said Lisa.
"You got it." said Lincoln. He takes out an empty pokeball and throws it at one of the Buizels, hitting it, and sucking it in; the pokeball wiggles a few times before a firework shoots out of it.
"Well done, Lincoln." said Lisa as she writes some stuff down in her notebook. As Lincoln congratulates his Pokemon, the other Buizel gets up and snarls at him, getting his attention.
"It sounds angry." said Lincoln. As the Buizel gets ready to attack, Shinx runs in front of Lincoln and releases a jolt of electricity at it, electrocuting it, and knocking it out.
"Amazing!" said Lisa. "How did Shinx produce electricity like that?"
"We'll ask Professor Laventon when we report back to him." said Lincoln. He looks back at Shinx, then kneels down and rubs his head. "Thanks for helping us, buddy." Shinx smiles in response. Lisa looks at the two pictures of the different kinds of Buizels.
"It seems that the Buizel you captured is a male one." said Lisa. "And we seem to have done three research tasks regarding Buizels at once; capturing one, defeating one, and with an electric attack if that's what Shinx used."
"We're doing awesome." said Lincoln.
"Indeed." said Lisa. "Let us continue our excursion." The two continue to explore the Obsidian Fieldlands in search of more Pokemon to research.
