Y/N awoke on a cot in a strange building. Perplexed, he sat up on the side of the bed to find that he was chained to it. He looked around, taking in the sights and sounds of this strange new location. It was then that he remembered; he was apprehended by the National Guard.
He had to get out of here soon. He had to go find Maggie. He could not stomach the thought of something happening to her.
Then again, Y/N knew her brothers. Should anything or anyone try to hurt her, they would not hesitate to blow its brains out. And, should they let anything happen to her, their father, Hershel, would have their hides.
Y/N was distracted from his thoughts when the gate to his cage was open. In stepped a woman in a camouflage suit with a hat tl match. She had a most unpleasant expression on her face.
"Is all this really necessary?" Y/N said, motioning to the chains.
Ignoring his question, the soldier went on. "We need to talk."
"A date? And here I am in a t-shirt and jeans," Y/N said, rolling his eyes. Y/N was a bit of a smart aleck. If he did not like someone, he was sure to let them know it through sarcasm.
The woman sighed and handed him some files. "Recognize these?"
He looked through them to find him tending to his sick roommate, as well as his struggle with the monster his roommate became.
"Yeah. So?" Y/N handed the files back to her. "We're wasting time. My girlfriend could be hurt ir worse. I need to get out of here."
Ignoring him, she continued. "Your friend was sick with some sort of bite-borne pathogen, like rabies. The same thing causing the dead to come back to life. So, either cooperate, or I'll be forced to neutralize you."
Y/N rolled his eyes, but nodded his head, knowing that if he resisted, he may never be able to see Maggie again.
"Good," the woman said. "I compared it to rabies earlier, but it doesn't act like it. It's an entirely new disease. We don't know if it's airborne, blood-borne, water-borne, or whatever yet. What we do know is that you were with your friend when he was infected. Are you infected?"
After a moment of silence, Y/N snickered, and said in a mocking tone, "You gotta be kiddin'." He laughed nervously. "My roommate got worse by the hour, not the day. It wasn't like other sicknesses. Once it...took root, it only got worse. We could only make him comfortable, but even that was a challenge. He didn't reject water, or have any other symptom realted to rabies, so it wasn't rabies. It wasn't the flu or anything either. If I had it, I wouldn't be able to sit up and talk to you right now. Can I go now?"
Without a word, the woman and the two soldiers who escorted her left. Before exiting the cage, she turned back to Y/N, and said, "One way or another, we have ways of getting what we want."
Y/N groaned and punched the cage, immediately withdrawing his hand in pain. He knew he needed to get out of there. He needed to find Maggie. He did not know whether she was alive or dead, and he needed to find out. Or else, he would drive himself mad.
A/N: Thanks for tuning into another chapter! Yes, I'm back. For now. I got a load of stories to finish. Once they're done, I'll retire from writing fanfics. Anyway, thank you for reading and I hope you come back next time!
