Chapter 5: "Bounty"
Onboard the ship of Vilgax, stood three beings under spotlights.
The first was an armored individual with hooved feet. He has purple pads covering his central joints, a belt, and four central lines on his helmet to provide outlines for his face, which are for his eyes and mouth. (OS)
The next one, in the middle, resembled a fiddler crab with a goldish brown-colored armor, a sideways mouth, four scythe-like legs and a large, powerful pincer for a left hand. Within the pincer was a power blaster combined with a chemical sprayer. He had orange lines running over his body and his eyes had the same color as the highlights of his pincer. (OS)
Finally, the third one wore a shiny grey bodysuit that had a retractable black helmet resembling a pillbug, with a small green triangle visor on the front. The triangle shape of his visor was also on the center of his utility belt, and there were markings resembling it on either shoulder pad. (OS)
"Begin the audition.", Vilgax commands them over the intercom.
The purple first flies out of the light with his jetpack, landing before about a dozen of Vilgax's drones. He pulls out a blaster from his thigh and shot at one. Another shot at him and he dodge rolls out of the way before aiming his arm at it and mini missiles rise from his arm and fires one at at the drone, destroying it. he pulls some kind of grenade out of another port in his suit and throws it at a group of drones before it explodes, destroying the lot of them
More flew in as the crab one jumps from the floating observation platform, leaving behind the one in the grey bodysuit. He lands with his giant pincer superman punching a drone and smashing it to pieces before grabbing a second drone and throwing it into a third. his head rises up for a clear view as he spots another drone flying at him. he then catches it with the massive pincer and crushes it in his grip. He then pulls out some kind of sword or spear from his back and slices another incoming drone.
Soon after, the ceiling of the room opens and out drops a massive bot, the same model as the one Jason defeated as Diamondhead.
With its arrival, the one in the grey deploys a black disk with a grey stripe that expands into a seafoam green hoverboard, with the disk being broken into the four corners of the board, and the green board had a crop circle like decal. He hops onto the board and flies it into action
The robot fires a beam from his right hand palm cannon, hitting the grey suited guy, but he was left unscathed. He flies the beard straight at it and jumps off to punch through the bot's chest and lands behind it, with his board flying down to meet him and and retracts back into a disk in his hand.
A holographic monitor then appears before the trio, showing Vilgax respirating in his tank.
"Impressive", Vilgax tells them, "You are all hired. Your objective is to retrieve the Omnitrix.", the monitor showing the device that Jason now wears, "The one who succeeds collects the reward. Do not disappoint me."
Soon after, the three enter their own pods and descend to Earth under the radar.
On Earth
Max was finishing setting up a training course in the middle of a desert before asking Jason, "You ready?".
Jason smiles and transforms into Diamondhead, "Oh, yeah."
"Remember to think as you act, Jason", Max tells him as he grabs ahold of the rudimentary control system of two levers, "Don't just try to muscle your way through. Might isn't always right."
"I know", Diamondhead responds as his hands shift into dozens of parallel spikes, "But it's always more fun".
Max shifts his right lever and some empty soda cans are launched via cattlepult. Diamondhead fires some shards at them, one piercing into each can. Max pulls a rope and three circle targets drop down, which Diamondhead fires at and gets each bullseyes.
He shifts his hands back to normal while waiting for his next target to activate. Some more cans are sent flying into the air, he shifts his left hand into the shards and fired at them before shooting at a cactus with a drawn on face and an alien sign hanging from it.
Four plank targets pop up on a nearby rock formation that Jason dive rolls towards and fires at, hitting them but missing the target on some.
"Show-off", Gwen comments as she is applying sunscreen while sitting back in her lawn chair.
"Stay focused, Jason!", Max calls out.
"I got it, Max!", Diamond yells back before dodging some flying cans and firing back at them before a tire swung in at him. It hits him and knocks him back, causing some shards to fly free from his hand.
Max ducks before the sharp shards could hit him, some of them getting stuck in his protection wall.
"Aah!", Gwen screams as she dives to the ground with shards hitting her lawnchair, into the Rustbucket, and annihilating her sunscreen bottle. She growls as the sunscreen coats her hair.
"Sorry! Is everyone alright?", Diamondhead says.
Not long after, the trio were driving away from the short term training site.
"You rockhead, you almost turned me into swiss cheese", Gwen complains to Jason.
"I said I was sorry. You can't expect me to be perfect with this thing", Jason tells her while gesturing to the watch.
"But we do expect you to treat it more seriously, Jason", Max states from the driver seat, "It's not a toy."
"I know, but come on, you've seen me in action when it's serious", Jason says to him, "Besides, you guys act like no one uses their power for fun."
"And that fun will lead to you being caught lacking and getting your butt kicked", Gwen disses, "And I hope I'm there to see it".
"You do know that could lead to all of us dying", Jason shoots her down.
Suddenly, the Rustbucket seems to stall.
"Uh-oh, that doesn't sound good", Max says as he pulls over.
Back at the training site, the hunter in grey is looking at this tracker, "This is where the Omnitrix was last activated", and goes in to investigate.
The crab and the purple armored on arrive over a rock formation to see him investigate.
The purple speaks in some offworld language to the crab before flying down to the site with his jetpack.
"You can say that again", the crab states, "A rock pile like this is better off space dust."
The guy in grey looked around before finding a side can with a shard stuck in it. He goes to pick it up before the armored one use his shoulder grapple to get it first and brings it to him. The guy in grey grabs it and tears it away first. The purple one summons prehensile wires form his suit while the one in grey reaches for his gun.
The purple one speaks in his gibberish to they guy in grey.
"Whoa! Big tail from a a gear head", the crab states as he stands behind the guy in grey.
"Get in my way again, and I'll teach you how to say "Dismantled"", the guy in grey threatens the purple one.
The purple backs away from him while dismissing his wires and waves with a grey had from his shoulder that soon retracts back in before he then speaks to him and then jets away.
The guy in grey holsters his gun and walks away, while the crab spins his legs in a drill shape and goes underground.
While walking away, the grey one nearly trips on one of the rope to activate the plank targets before he brings out his blaster gun and shoots the site, completely destroying it in one shot. He then flies away on his hoverboard.
The trio are currently in what appears to be a ghost town with the Rustbucket.
"Looks like no one's home", Jason comments.
"Not for a while", Gwen observes the state of the buildings, "My intellimap program says this is Slatterville. Incorporated in 1857 after the discovery of silver. Went bust in the late fifties when the mine went dry."
"Why do you always sound like your doing a book report or something?", Jason asks her, to which she scowls at him.
"Aha", Max sounds from under the RV's hood, "I think I found the problem", he then shows a tube with a Diamondhead shard in it, "Leaky fuel line".
"Damn", Jason groans out
"I should be able to patch it up", Max informs them.
"Sorry, Max. I can help, if you want", Jason tells him.
"Nah, I'll handle this", Max replies with a smile. He likes working on the Rustbucket.
"Ok. Guess I'll check this place out.", Jason relents, "Maybe I'll find some hidden silver of my own.", and he then walks away into the ghost town.
"Why don't you go with him", Max suggests to Gwen, so she has something to do instead of just sitting with her new phone (due to her last one being destroyed in Washington DC) or her laptop.
"Fine", Gwen sighs, "I guess I'll make sure he doesn't goof off to much", before following after Jason.
Jason was approaching what appears to be some station or work shop that mine carts would roll into from the mine, before entering inside.
"Man, this looks like old western movie around here", Jason comments while looking around, "complete with production mistakes", spotting a rubber tire left behind.
"Jason? Jason!", Gwen calls out.
Jason looks outside as she passes by before getting an idea to mess with her again.
Gwen soon notices a green flash in the building behind her.
A distance away, the hunter in purple armor looks into a port on the back of his right hand to see his Omnitrix Tracker pick up the transformation's location. He shuts the port as he flies in the direction of the Omnitrix.
Gwen is soon entering the rundown building jason had transformed.
"Calling all jerks!", Gwen calls out, looking for Jason in the shadows of the building. She explores the place before a shadow seems to pass through her.
"Brrr!", she shivers from a chill through her as she hugs herself to warm up, weird for a desert place.
"What's the matter, Gwen?", the shadow morphs around in front over her before taking the shape of Ghostfreak, "You look like you've seen a ghost...", and shoves his face in front of her, "Freak! Hahaha".
"Oh, get over yourself, jerk. You don't scare me.", she crosses her arms.
Just then, the ground rumbles. They look to the ground to see something tunneling towards them.
Ghostfreak grabs Gwen and flies out of the way before it crashed into the equipment near where they were. A dust cloud kicks up before they see the armor crab man.
"Alright, now I'm scared", Gwen tells Ghostfreak as the crab man approaches them.
"No problem. I'll handle this", he says before floating in front of her.
"Hand over the Omnitrix, and I promise you won't suffer...", the crab man demands, raising his big pincer, "much".
"Dream on", Ghostfreak tells him before asking, "What's an Omnitrix?"
"Duh. Why else would an alien track you down? the watch", Gwen says to him from behind.
"To bad, crabby, the... Omnitrix and I are kind of attached", Ghostfreak informs.
"Not for long", the crab alien threatens, clamping his pincer.
"You have no idea who you're messing with", Ghostfreak tells him.
"I was just about to say the same thing", the alien responds.
Gwen runs away while Ghostfreak disappears from view. The crab man looks around for the ghostly ghoul. Ghostfreak rises from the ground behind for a sneak attack before the crab's head turns around.
"You're as arrogant as you are dimwitted", the crab guy says to him, his cyber vision able to detect Ghostfreak even when he's invisible. He turns towards him and fires a liquid from his pincer cannon, coating Ghostfreak in it.
"What happened?", as he is forced visible.
"Your protoplasm is now solidified", the crab looking hunter informs, "Making it easier to do this!", he punches Ghostfreak back in some other equipment.
Ghostfreak gets up and dodges a piercing strike from the front right leg of the crab guy's four legs. Ghostfreak goes for a jump but is swatted away by the pincer into a wall passed Gwen. Gwen runs over to help.
"Dammit. Who is this guy?", Ghostfreak asks as he is helped up by Gwen.
"I take back wanting to be their when you get your butt kicked", Gwen tells him as she looks over at the crab man, who was skittering around towards them. "You're the super guy. DO something?", she begs him.
Ghostfreak spots something on a distant wall, "I got an idea", he tells her.
Ghostfreak then flies around the crab, taunting him, "is that all you got, crab head", dodging an energy blast from the pincer cannon. he draws the crab to a platform.
"This is hardly worth the hunt", the crab says disappointed.
"Hardly worth the heroics", Ghostfreak says before pulling down a nearby lever. Causing an old mine lift to send the hunter into the ceiling. He crashes into it as the Omnitrix now begins it's time out and he transforms back into Jason.
"Jason, you ok?", Gwen asks him.
"Man, that was weirder than when I normally go Ghostfreak", Jason replies, still covering in the amber looking goo.
"come on. Let's get out of here before Crabcake wakes up", Gwen tells him while the crab guy's leg is twitching while he's trapped against a ceiling beam.
The two teens run out of there, unaware of the man in grey hovering in the shadows of the building they were in.
The duo run back to Max as he was finishing up.
"What happened?", Max asked as he wipes his hands with a cloth.
"You know, the usual", Gwen casually replies, "Some jumbo-sized crustacean burst out of the ground and attacked Jason. it said it wanted the watch, only it kept calling it the Omnitrix".
"And once it recharges, I can turn him into a seafood special", Jason states.
"Repairs are done. It's best we get out of here", Max tells him and boards the Rustbucket and Gwen follows.
"Oh sure. The alien is just a hunter and won't track us. It's fine", Jason sighs before getting on and they drive away.
"No sign of crab guy yet", Gwen worriedly looks out the RV's window.
"Well, I'm ready this time", Jason tells her, "Seems to have a lot of tech so Upgrade might be the best bet. If not, there's always Four Arms or Diamondhead."
Suddenly, something lands on the roof of the Rustbucket and what appears to be an energy saw begins cutting into it.
"I think we've picked up a hitchhiker!", Gwen exclaims.
His hands jammed into the cut gap and he pried it open to reveal the man in purple armor.
"Who's that?!", Gwen asks alouf
"Beats me!", Jason responds, briefly checking the Omnitrix to see it's still red.
The armored purple one goes to grab Jason but he ducks down. Max hits the brakes and the purple armor goes flying off the front of the Rustbucket from the momentum. As he is getting up, Max drives the Rustbucket forward and rams him and runs him over. Max then notices something wrong with the RV and stops to look at it, finding his tires blown out by some prods from the armored hunter.
"Dammit", Mx mutters, looking to the road to see the hunter getting up from being run over. "In there", Max tells the teens, gesturing to the mine nearby and that the run for.
The armored alien goes to follow before noticing a tunnel being dug towards him before the crab hunter rises from it.
"Remember me?", he asks the other hunter before dropping down on him.
The trio enter the mines as the hunters fought for the bounty. They round a corner in it and hide. Jason takes a quick peak to see no one following.
"Coast is clear.. for now", Jason tells them, just before a rumbling and the crab guy rises up from the ground.
"Don't you get tired of being wrong?", Gwen snidely asks Jason.
The crab man rushes at them, "The Omnitrix. Give it to me!"
Max grabs a nearby crumpled metal sheet and throws it at him, but he just crushes it to pieces. The trio than ran further into the mines with the hunter chasing them.
"Come on", Jason demands as he looks at the Omnitrix, "Charge!"
The trio quickly round another corner and the crab guy crashes into a leftover minecart and trips into a wall before quickly recovering and continuing the chase. The trio then exit into the main mine with wide open sky above it.
"Now what?", Gwen asks her grandpa.
Max looks around and spots an cable mine cart, "We take a ride", he tells them while point to it.
They rush for it as the crab man exits from the mine shaft. The teens hop in while Max its the cable switch for it to move before jumping in it before the crab man could get them.
"What a pathetic excuse for prey", he comments before going to cut the cable with his pincer before he is then blasted by the armored one flying in overhead.
He fires on the cart, knocking them off their feet in it.
Gwen takes a quick peak to see how far he was, "We've got company closing in fast!", she tells Max and Jason. Jason being distracted as he was focused on the Omnitrix and it's red setting, waiting for it to turn green.
"We need a plan", Max states to Jason.
The omnitrix turns green, "Yes!", Jason cheers, "I'll take care of this". before slamming down on the dial.
"No Jason! That's just what it wants.", Max tries to tell him but he had already turned into Diamondhead.
He shifts his right arm into a jagged blade and jumps from the cart onto the purple armored alien and they fall deeper into the mine pit.
"Jason!", Max yells for him.
They then fly up due to the armored hunter's jetpack, pass the cable cart, and flies into a wall on the top floor.
"Jason, come on!", Max yells as the cart takes him and Gwen into a tunnel.
"I'll catch up!", Diamondhead yells back, "First, I got to lose this this alien Deathstroke".
However, the crab man comes from behind him, having walked around on the platforms, and grabs his arm with his pincer before throwing him into a distant rock wall.
The duo hunters then approach him, but Diamondhead gets to his feet and rushes them with his blade. He slices at the crab man but it misses. He then gut checks the purple one with a left before blocking a pincer strike with his right. He then gives the crab a left hook in the face, knocking him away, before the purple one come sin a blasts him in the gut. Diamondhead stumbes a bit before being gut checked by the giant pincer and slashed in the back by the purple hunter, before being grabbed and lifted by the pincer and then slammed into the ground before being thrown away again.
The purple one goes to continue but is stopped by the crab man, "Back off! That reward's mine". The purple one says something, to which the crab responds, "Well, you don't have to get personal", before a ball with several green dot on it is thrown between them and releases a cloud of knock out gas, having them fall to the ground.
This was done by the the one in grey, who flies in while holstering his blaster and then grabs Diamondhead by his left back spike and flies into the mines with him hanging from the hoverboard. They get back to town before the grey suit hunter throws him onto the ground and into some knocked over mine carts.
Jason gets to his feet while the guy says, "Billions of beings on this planet, and the Omnitrix winds up on the wrist of a foolhardy youth.
"Like I told your buddie, this thing doesn't come off", Diamondhead tells him, "Ive tried".
Of course it doesn't", the man gets into Diamondhead's face before turning around in aggravation, "It's power utilizes alien DNA,which binds to the hot's own genetic structure. it cannot be removed like taking off a hat".
Diamondhead turns his arm back into a blade and goes to strike him from behind, but the man in grey turns around and suckerpunches him with his collapsed hoverbooard in hand, sending him flying into another mine cart.
"Your choice of warriors is based solely on brute strength.", the grey man says, "without regard for any strategy. Do you ever pause to consider your actions at all?"
"Hey, I have been beating bad guys for a while now", Diamondhead counters.
"Such as your recent success in the mine shaft with the bounty hunters", the grey suited hunter sarcastically tells him.
"You try fighting in a body not your own against people you never met who know what body your in", Diamond critiques before rushing him with both arms as blades
"You were moments away from losing your life", the hunter says, dodging it the attacks as though he knew them, "and the Omnitrix.", Diamond then gets a chin check, "Victory should have been swift and effortless.", before he does a one inch punch to his chest and sends him back into the carts.
"The Omnitrix is not soe toy for one's own amusement", he admonishes Diamondhead, "It's the most powerful weapon in the galaxy, maybe universe. It's the key in an epic battle between good and evil."
And whose side are you on?", Diamondhead asks as he gets to his feet again.
"You're still alive, aren't you?", the grey suited man replies.
"You're a good guy? Let me guess. Undercover?", Diamond head inquires.
"My mission is to retrieve the Omnitrix at all costs.", he explains before point at Diamondhead's chest, "Since it is attached to you, I will bring you back for its removal."
"Yeah", Diamond head states before knocking his hand away, "I'm not going anywhere."
"It's not your choice", he tells the teen.
"Yes, it is", Diamondhead growls before tackling the grey man, causing him to lose his hoverboard.
The man in grey grabs Diamondhead by his face and throws him.
"It's disturbing how little you know of this alien's strength or weaknesses. you barely scratched the surface of its potential.
"I defeated my first alien attacker with this form. So what makes you such an exert?", Diamondhead demands of him.
The man lowers his collapsable helmet to reveal a face that matched Diamondhead's.
"You're.. me?", Diamondhead is stunned, 'never noticed the eyes look like actual jewels'
"Wrong. I am a noble warrior. You are an impulsive annoyance", he responds to Diamondhead.
Just then, the Omnitrix times out and he changes back to Jason.
"We have wasted enough time", the hunter says before trying to grab Jason but Jason backflips away.
"Oh, no you don't", Jason tells him, "I don't deal well with strangers".
The hunter sighs before looking for his board so he can get this over with faster but can;t find it.
Jason and the hunter then notice the crab man clambering over with the disk in hand.
"Looking for this?", he asks the grey hunter, "You're not getting off this planet with the Omnitrix, and just to be sure...", the purple hunter walks over with Max and Gwen in his grasp.
"Hands off", Max resists.
"Let me go!", Gwen pleads.
"See, we've decided to work together and split the reward...", the crab tells them before pointing his pincer at the grey hunter, "and you in half.".
The purple hunter points a grey hand with a knife from his upper arm at Gwen while a wire comes out, aiming at Max. The crab fires at Jason and the grey suited crystal man but the crystal man shields Jason from the blast before grabbing him and running into a building. Jason gets to his feet in the building while the crystalline man tanks the shots from the baster fire like he wasn't being shot.
The purple hunter speaks to the firing grab, who responds, "Don't blow a gasket, metal mouth. i know what I'm doing."
Inside the building, Jason tells the crystalline man, "What are we waiting for? We've got to save them."
"Don't be foolish", the diamondhead lookalike says, "Keeping the Omnitrix secure is the only priority here."
"Not to me.", Jason responds to him, "they're the closest thing I have to a family".
"You cannot save them", the hunter says, "You would soon be overpowered and captured. the obvious choice is for me to retrieve my hoverboard so we may leave this planet."
"And abandon them. Some good guy you are", Jason tells him.
"Stay here", the diamond skinned agent tells the teen.
He rushes outside and fires his own shards at the hunters, knocking the purple hunter down, releasing Max and Gwen. He then rushes the crab man, diving over the pincer and grabbing his hoverboard back. He hops on it while the purple one gets up and fires his own blaster at the crystal man as he flies around the town. He hops off the board mid air and crashes into the purple armored hunter, crab man moving in one direction and the human duo running in the opposite direction and hiding behind some mining carts.
As the dust cloud settles, the agent grabs the purple hunter by his neck and gut checks him, sending him flying back out of the crater. The hunter retaliates by revealing his missiles and firing one at his opponent. He creates a crystal shield from the ground to tank the blow for him, with it being shattered. The crab guy then hops in and goes for a hit with his claw but is grabbed by his arm and thrown at the purple hunter.
Jason was watching all this while his Omnitrix recharged, "All right. Hero time".
The crab notices Jason alone in the building and looks to see the agent distracted by the purple hunter. He then goes to retrieve Jason, believing it to be the easier of two options.
Jason was hiding behind a table while going through his options on the dial, thinking of what might be the best option before he then transforms.
The crab looking hunter notices the green flash and rushes the table before punching into it, only for Jason not to be there. only for Grey Matter to hop around in the rafters above him as he sifted through the debri.
Grey matte then drops onto the guys head, the crab tries to grab him, but he's just to bulky to reach his head.
"Get of me, you tiny, little...", the crabby guy grunts as he backs up outside.
Grey Matter slips down into the crevice where the crab man's head retracts in.
"There should be a nerve cluster in here somewhere", he says as he roots through a crack in the armor. He then pulls out some wires (veins?) and rips them, causing the crab man to spark and move wildly as he screams in distress. Eventually, his head smokes and spins around before a powering down sound rings out and he falls over, unmoving.
"One down", Grey Matter lists off as he climbs from the neck shield to the battling hunter and agent.
Speaking of, the two were boxing each other before the purple hunter got the crystalline agent in a chokehold and flies up with his jetpack. They go about a dozen yards high before he powers off his pack and the fall head first down to the ground. The purple one is the first to get up and he spots the frog-like alien that is Grey Matter. He brings out the missiles again but Max jumps onto his back before he can fire.
"Jason, run!", Max yells, his arms around the guy's neck before he is flipped onto his back by the hunter.
He goes to cut Max with his energy saw while Grey MAtter rushes them.
"No!", Gwen yells in despair.
The agent goes to get up only to see Grey Matter jump onto the hutner's back.
"Guess who", he tells the hunter.
"I told you to stay out of my way", the agent tells the wielder of the Omnitrix, but was ignored.
"Wonder what would happen if I did this!", Grey Matter states as he then pulls some wires from his back, causing the jetpack to activate out of the hunter's control. They flew around and even hit an old water tower, knocking away its legs, leaving only the pipt to support it. They then crash into the ground, till the hunter skids to a stop by the crab man
Grey Matter sees the water tower begins to fall and hops away.
"I hate this planet", the crab man despairs before the tower lands on both hunters and breaks apart to over fifty year old water.
"Only one way to be the desert heat, don't you think/", Grey Matter jokes to Max, Gwen, and the agent.
"Pretty smart... for a human", the crystal agent comments at his work. The agent than activates a device that releases a cube at the hunters, which grows bigger and seemingly consumes them before shrinking back to the size of a rubix cube, before retrieving it.
Around this time, the Omnitrix time's out and Grey Matter changes back to Jason.
"I'll return as soon as I am able", the agent tells the human trio.
"What about this?", Jason asked, lifting his left arm to show off the Omnitrix.
"It's in good hands until then", the agent says before handing over his hoverboard to Jason, "This may be of some use in the meantime."
"Seriously? Sweet!", Jason cheers before realizing, "Hold on. you said you needed this to get off the planet."
"Selective disinformation", the agent replies. Translation: He lied.
"Was all this a test?", Jason asks him.
"Maybe. Now I need to go drop of Kraab and Sixsix", the agent replies before activating his helmet and pulling out another device, "Oh, and my name is Tetrax Shard. For future reference.", before activating the spherical device and disappearing in a flash of red, similar to when Jason destransforms.
"How come you get all the cool alien stuff?", Gwen asks Jason in reference to his new hoverboard.
"It's just my thing now, Kitkat", Jason replies with a smile, "You'll find your own".
"Right.", Gwen deadpans, "I have something for you, too", before dumping her sunscreen on his head.
"Hey!", he shakes his head of the sunscreen, "I would have preferred you in a bikini."
"UGH!", she groans in exacerbation befor walking away to the Rustbucket, with Jason following.
On Vilgax's ship
Vilgax and his men watched as Tetrax flies off the planet and away from him.
"Betrayed", Vilgax glares at his monitor.
"Sensors indicate the Omnitrix is not with the mercenaries", one of his soldiers informs.
"It would appear the creature who possesses the Omnitrix is as clever as it is fierce.", he wheezes, "But I shall not be denied."
