Chapter 57: Knights of the Realm.
Jay and Xao were led through the surprisingly large village come town and as Jay looked around he could see people coming out of their homes to look at them, but to his surprise, these were not soldiers or warriors these were just everyday people, he could see everyone from bakers and farmers to blacksmiths all easily identifiable by their clothing and half of them clutching the tools of their trades, it was like a look back into the middle ages of Earth or as it was referred to by both the Serpentinus and the Raptorians as the Birth of the Forge.
It was the time when the races discovered proper metallurgy and metal shaping, it was the time when the trade of blacksmithing really took off, now it wasn't like all species had blacksmiths before that but it was the time when that as a trade it really took off and they became really important people within their communities because of their value to all people no matter of their social status.
From the lowliest farmer to lords and land barons, every one of them needed the services of a good blacksmith because you needed everything from tools to weapons and the only people who could provide to all of these people was the blacksmith and it was something that Jay as a member of Clan Mason could really appreciate as it was something that the Grand Patriarch instilled in them and he truly embodied these values as quite often he could be found on his off time at his forge.
Now Jay had seen the pictures of this place from when the Clan was first formed and it was nothing more than a little a pit in the ground surrounded by bricks with a bellows attached to feed it air so he could heat and shape metals while the metal was melted in a large clay and brick furnace.
Now the Forge of the Grand Patriarch was an actual place that the Grand Patriarch ran behind his house, it was a large building that contained a whole host of tools and methods of melting and shaping metal all taught by the Grand Patriarch himself in order to keep the traditional skills alive and well.
In fact, it had quite a lot of human students as one of the most popular gifts to give to a prospective Yautja partner or current spouse was a nice handcrafted blade or wrist blades or even for the more skilled smiths, a nice handcrafted combi stick.
The Grand Matriarch was one of the best equipped and armed women on the entire planet given that all of her gear was handcrafted by the Grand Patriarch himself and completely custom made, it made the skill very popular among the Yautja loving members of the Clan, simply because they saw her standing at the forefront of Yautja society within the Clan and they wanted their girl to be this breathtaking war angel just like her, this muscle-bound goddess clad in metal that was shaped and crafted with their own two hands as she fought for them and the Clan, the same was true among those that loved the Yautja boys in the Clan as well, because everyone knew that the Yautja don't just love a good trophy they love a solid and sharp blade to bring you a trophy that they used it to claim.
They passed by what appeared to be a garrison of soldiers and Jay could hear the crash of steel on steel which made him feel right at home, blade work was a huge part of the training of all three of the major sections of the Guardian Core before you could even pick up a rifle in the Saviours Matriarch Sela eleth made damn sure you could handle a sword in her words "If you cannot handle this sword then you are not worthy to even look at this rifle let alone wield it because you do not understand combat, combat is as ugly as it it is glorious and it is unexpected, so as Saviours we will teach you to fight no matter the distance you find yourself from your opponent whether they be a single foot from you or kilometres away, none shall be safe from a Saviour's righteous fury and no matter the weapon they hold in their hand it will be feared because one of my Saviours wields it."
Jay had had always felt that Matriarch Sela eleth had definitely inherited her father's flair for the dramatic and his showmanship, but not just that she'd also inherited his talents with both a blade and a gun because her first act to show the new Saviours exactly what she meant by this was to hand one of them a plasma pistol and to tell them to shoot her which shocked the hell out of all of them but the one who was handed the gun did as he was told and got the shock of his life when from a hundred meters away she charged him bellowing a Yautja war cry with enough force to throw off his aim, only three of the ten shots he was able to fire at her actually hit her shields before he found himself stood with her wrist blades at his throat.
"Never underestimate the power of a good blade in skilled hands my Saviors because if this scared you I dare any one of you to do the same to your Grand Matriarch, I'd be impressed if even two of those shots landed before your head was cut clean from your shoulders or she hit you clean over Mason hill with that war hammer our Grand Patriarch made her, this is what you must learn and by the time you walk up onto that stage and receive the mark of the Hunter and the Shield of the Saviour you will be comfortable no matter what I put in your hand or even if your hand is empty, it's not the weapon my Saviours it's the warrior that wields it" she'd said.
As he watched the large creates that the Nightmare Assassin had referred to as Beledons fought in pairs, they were sparing with what appeared to be a single sword and shield combat with each of the large creatures holding a round wooden shield that was inlayed with a large iron or possibly dark steel stud dead centre of it and banded in the same, each of the shields was painted in a variety of brilliant colours and designs showing everything from simple sectioned colour schemes to fill in the crests.
There was a tug at the rope that bound his wrist and Jay jerked forwards and felt a large stab of pain in his injured side making him yelp, "You alright Jay?' Xao asked with obvious concern in his voice and Jay nodded.
"Yeah just a broken rib or two I think, took a pretty big hit from that damn Nightmare Assassin thought to be fair I'm pretty lucky to be breathing, fucker could have run both of us through as soon as they were out of the maze, just lucky they tend to be pretty fucking arrogant when fighting opponents they see as lesser than themselves," Jay said with a bit of a wheeze to his voice.
"Hey, my friend is hurt you need to get him some medical attention!" Xao said aiming his comment to the five of them that were escorting them through the town to a destination unknown.
The large crimson coloured Dream Warrior knight that was holding the rope that they were tied to simply looked at him through the slit that acted as a visor to her helmet but did not say anything just simply tilted her head curiously.
"They cannot understand us yet Xao but my translator is working on it," Jay said wincing as the pain in his side flared and burned with every step he took.
"Where are they taking us?" Xao asked looking at him again his concern morphing into worry.
"Not sure but I don't think they intend to hurt us otherwise they most likely would have done so already, just be on your guard ok?" Jay replied.
The streets themselves were lined with cobblestone that had been compressed down to form a solid road and set with some kind of mortar that while not concrete by its slightly yellow colour seemed to do the trick and Jay could hear the continual clicking and clopping noises of the Beledon's cloven hooves on it, some of them had some kind of metal rings attached to the bottoms of their hooves and others were simply wearing metal boots that fit to their armour like the crimson coloured knight.
The sides of the streets were lined with remarkably carved statues of what was either deities or possibly legendary warriors by the heroic poses they were all captured in, though to Jay's eyes given how some of them didn't exactly look like Beledon he got the feeling deities was more likely of an answer.
Some of the statues depicted creatures that reminded Jay of fawns and others just seemed to be larger than life Beledon, one statue of what appeared to be a male Beledon holding a giant war axe and what appeared to be a bird of some kind dominated all of the others by its sheer size, now while each of the statues appeared to have a name at the bottom they obviously couldn't read the rather rune-like language, but by the way, each rune seemed to glow for a moment Jay could see that his translator was working hard to not only find a match but also trying to look for patterns among them to help it to figure them out.
Finally, they seemed to reach their destination which appeared to be a large house at the rear edge of the town near to what appeared to be a temple of some kind by the large shape and large gardens that seemed to be overflowing the large stone walls that surrounded the large building that sat in the centre.
The house was circular in shape and made from a mixture of stone and wood with the majority of the framework made from large cut and carved wooden beams and then protected with stone cladding that had been fixed in place with the same strong mortar that made up the roads, the large domed roof that was supported atop the building seemed to be made of a mixture of beams and slate that had been quarried and expertly cut before being laid as tiles to direct rain flow down and away from the house.
The crimson knight moved to the front of the group and inserted a large brass key with three different heads on its tip into what appeared to be a rather large ward style lock before she turned it and a what sounded like a rather large deadbolt withdrew into a hidden port allowing her to push the large metal-plated door open to reveal the interior which to Jay's surprise turned out to be someone's home.
The entire home was open plan with all but a bathroom being set into one singular room, everything from the large very comfortable looking bed to the surprisingly large and well equipped old style kitchen was contained in the large singular circle shaped room.
Right in the centre of it was what appeared to be a large couch that appeared to be made from cut wooden beams and covered in leather that had been expertly hemmed and sewn to cover the padding it had been stuffed with and given the level of craftsmanship that had been applied to it Jay got the feeling that this was some kind of either gift or reward for service given that there appeared to be a crest of some kind that appeared to be two Beledon back to back both holding warhammers aloft in triumph with a scroll under them with runes on it, infact it was the same crest that was on the red shoulder pauldrons of the crimson knight further leaning weight to this being her home.
The crimson knight gestured to the pair of them and then spoke to the warrior who had black and white fur on her body, she nodded and then moved to remove the bindings that they had used to lead them here before pulling out smaller ropes and applying them to their wrists again, once again she was surprisingly gentle with them while binding their wrists as if she realised that their smaller frames made them more fragile and she seemed to take extra care with Jay possibly because of his injury.
The pair of them were suddenly hoisted up onto the large couch and made to sit down on it making Jay wince and groan in pain while made both the crimson knight and the black and white warrior look at him with concern in their expressive eyes, once they were seated the five of them moved behind the couch and they began discussing things.
As they sat there Jay got an odd sense of de ja Vu of five large guys standing behind a couch with a single woman sitting on it only this time it was the reverse with five massive women and two small guys sitting on the large couch, suddenly the women spilt up and the four of them who were not the crimson knight left and she remained behind and as Jay watched she headed over to the place that was her bed space.
Once there she began removing her armour and hanging it on what appeared to be a large wooden mannequin that he now noticed stood in the corner next to her bed, now for the first time Jay saw the woman below the armour and to his sheer surprise, the face of the woman who had save his life was truly breathtaking.
Her fur was almost as red as her armour though probably edging towards the orange edge of the spectrum, well all except for the very tip of her long tail which was as white as snow, as he watched she removed the heavy looking plate armour piece by piece and mounted it on the mannequin and by the way she removed it and the speed at which it came off her it was obvious to him she was incredibly well-practised in applying it and removing it on her own which impressed him as in the stories he heard of ancient Earth knights they usually always had a squire to help them remove the stuff.
Once the main plate was removed the last thing that she took off was a long chainmail shirt that seemed to reach from her neck shoulder tops to her wide feminine hips, under all that plate she seemed to be wearing a simple tunic that reminded Jay of the tunics and bodysuits the Seekers often wore, though not quite as tight as the bodysuits though it still flattered her large form very nicely.
Jay ran his eyes up her massive digitigrade legs from her large hooves up her solid calves to her truly massive and solid-looking thighs that looked like they could be used to break boulders in half in a pinch, infact each one of them was as wide as Jay's shoulders which both scared him and oddly excited him, there was just something about seeing a woman with as much raw power in a single leg as he had in his entire body that for some reason appealed to him.
His eyes travelled up from her thighs onto her wide flared and curved hips that seemed to be kinda arch-shaped obviously set that way to allow her to have a gap between her massive thighs despite their size, these flowed perfectly into a belly that was hidden by her tunic though given how loose it was he couldn't tell if she had a pot belly or solid abdominals.
His eyes ran up her huge torso and stopped on her huge bosom which was the only place where her cotton and flax tunic was actually tight which wasn't all that surprising as by the size of the two breasts they contained it looked like she had a pair of beach balls jammed up her top, it made him wonder how in the name of hell she was able to balance let alone fight with those two huge things jammed up her top.
That's when his eyes came up and met hers making him jump a mile in his own skin as he realised she'd been watching him the whole time he'd been watching her and he felt his skin warm like someone had lit a plasma fire under it as her large highly intelligent eyes scrutinized him curiously.
As he looked at her she strode over to him and he saw the confidence in every single step, this was someone fully at ease with herself and who had zero self-doubts a quality he really really envied, as she walked she reached up behind her large horned head and removed what appeared to be two lacquered chopsticks of some kind which allowed her to shake her hair loose releasing a cascade of what appeared to be warrior braids that reminded him of the hairstyle favoured by human Seekers as quite a few of them both male and female liked to wear their hair long.
As she stopped in front of them Jay saw her eyes flick between both Jay and Xan and then back again and then she seemed to scrutinise him the way he had her running her eyes up from his feet back to his face cocking her head curiously when their eyes met again.
A sudden knock at the door made them all jump and all three of them turned to look at it before the female Dream Warrior called out something in their language that must have been permitted to enter a second later the door opened to reveal the four warriors that had left earlier had now returned only now they were not dressed in their armour but simple tunics much like the one the crimson knight herself wore.
The four of them piled into the crimson knight's home and she greeted them warmly before once again the five of them took up their positions behind the couch that they had deposited Jay and Xao upon and the five of them stood looking at the pair curiously.
They seemed to be deciding what to do with the pair if Jay's read on their body language was anywhere near correct, the warrior with the black and white patched fur approached the pair around the couch, her long mane of hair now clearly visible that she had removed her helmet, she leaned down to examine Jay and she gently reached out a rather large hand to touch the side of his face making him wince from the pain of what was obviously a split lip received from his impact with the ground after being hit by the Nightmare Assassin.
She said something to the crimson knight who came around to the front of the couch to join her comrade and the pair of them scrutinized him closely, "Err what are they doing Jay?' Xao said nervously as he glanced between them.
"Just relax Xao be cool I don't think they mean me any harm," Jay said softly trying to sound both calm and non-threatening but inside he was rather nervous about the large alien females towering over him, it wasn't often that many people could make a Yautja girl look small or human-sized but these girls had it down to a tee.
But despite their size and blatantly obvious strength, hell he didn't even want to imagine what being hit by the normal one would feel like let alone a Dream Warrior version they were incredibly gentle with him.
The patchy one gently gripped his jaw in her padded fingers and turned his head to the side so she could get a closer look at his facial injuries before gently touching his side with two fingers making him grunt in pain as her fingers found the two broken ribs in his chest.
Her hand snapped back as it had just been bitten by a grumpy Serpentinus, she looked surprised and spoke to the crimson knight who looked Jay over carefully before pointing at his suit and motioning for it to be removed and only now one of them went to remove his gun which was still on his back from when he'd gathered it up.
"Whoa don't touch that!" he exclaimed loud enough that the woman whose fur was sand coloured jumped a mile in the air and snatched her hand back like he'd tried to bite her.
She looked at the crimson knight for instructions her sandy blond braids swinging around her head as she looked between them, the crimson knight scowled at him and then moved so fast he didn't see her it was like nothing more than a flicker and she appeared back where she was standing before only know holding Jat's weapon in her hands and looking at it curiously.
"No! Drop it quickly! It's going to hurt you!" Jay exclaimed ignoring the pain in his chest and side as he tried desperately to reach out for the weapon but the crimson knight held it easily out of his grasp by stepping backwards and looking between him and it curiously but it was already too late.
"Unauthorised user detected, deploying security protocols," the ZRT-21 said in its mechanical feminine sounding voice and the crimson knight looked at it in surprise obviously surprised that a seemingly inanimate object just spoke, she was even more surprised when it hit her with a hundred thousand volts causing her to go as rigid as a board with her braids all standing on end like spikes before she collapsed to the floor in a heap.
The reaction from the other four was instantaneous and they all yelled in alarm before charging up to her and the one Jay was calling patchy kicked the ZRT-21 away causing it to bounce off the far wall and Jay just thanked the Goddess silently that Clan Mason's weaponry was incredibly tough, though to be fair it needed to be to deal with a full-blown Yautja temper tantrum, according to Clan Chroniclers they had lost a great many rifles in the early days of the Clan thanks to Yautja breaking them in fits of temper, so they had been made very tough with reinforced alloys now.
The four of them crowded around their fallen comrade and hoisted her back onto her hooves and she shook her head to clear it before shrugging her friends off her and turning to glare at Jay, she really didn't look so friendly now as anger brimmed in her bright eyes.
She snorted like an angry bull and her ears flattened against her head while her tail began to whip back and forth behind her as she stomped over to tower over him menacingly with her fists clenched and her large flat teeth bared, "I-I-I told you not to touch it" Jay stammered his voice shaking as he spoke.
She snarled a response that he didn't understand and he really wished that his UT would hurry the fuck up and figure a way out for him to talk to these people because he got a real feeling that they were about to get a whole lot less friendly thanks to that little shock.
As quick as a striking Serpentinus her huge hand shot out and seized Jay by the bindings around his wrist and hoisted him into the air with his arms above his head, what felt like a cross between a lightning storm and a hand grenade went off in his chest making him scream in pain as his whole body stretched out and he felt the broken bones grinding and clicking in his chest with their jagged edges slicing his flesh internally, he also felt an odd pop like sensation from the left side of his chest.
This sent Jay into a coughing fit and to his shock, he began to cough up blood and it instantly got a whole lot harder to breathe, infact it felt exactly like when he did his deep water dive training, same pressure on his lungs and that odd feeling of not being able to breathe, that's when he realised one of his broken ribs had just punctured one of his lungs, this was bad, this was really really bad.
"P-P-Please I-I-I didn't want it to hurt y-y-you, I-I-I tried to warn you" Jay wheezed in-between coughs that expelled bright red blood onto both the floor and some of it flecked onto the crimson knight herself which made her pause momentarily as she looked down at the blood-flecked onto the floor of her home.
"He's telling the truth! Please don't hurt him! Please he saved my life he's a good person! Please don't do this your hurting him! He needs help!" Xao yelled loudly his voice laced with both hard panic and fear as he tried to reach for Jay but found himself pressed back down into the couch by one of the other Beledon.
Jay's vision began to swim in and out of focus and he became incredibly lightheaded due to the lack of oxygen not to mention blood loss, he was in a really bad way now, the rough treatment had made his existing injury much worse than it already was, the crimson knight snarled something but Jay was unable to respond as he was gasping for breath now and he felt like he was drowning, his legs began to kick and swish as he tried desperately to draw breath, he was barely aware of the knight's face only inches from his own as his vision swam and greyed out, "P-P-Please help..." was all he was able to say before the blackness that was swimming into the edge of his vision won and everything went black and his whole body went limp.
000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000
Ketra watched the small creature fall into unconsciousness as she held it aloft by the bindings on its wrists, a flash of worry shot through her as she realised that she may have very well just seriously hurt it, she'd known that it was injured after being hit pretty hard by the cursed one outside of the labyrinth, but until she had hoisted it upwards and it screamed before beginning to wheeze like it couldn't breathe and coughing up blood she hadn't realised just how badly it had been hurt and she got the feeling she had just made it a whole lot worse.
Honestly, she hadn't meant to hurt it she had meant to scare it due to the embarrassment she had felt at having been felled so easily by the strange device she had taken off it, when she had it had seemed to panic and had started shouting at her, honestly she had thought it was a challenge or threat at first but now that she had thought about it it's body language really hadn't been threatening or aggressive, if anything it had been fearful and panicked, she got the feeling it had been trying to warn her that the strange thing would hurt her and lo and behold it had done just that and now he was paying the price for her ignorance.
She quickly turned to her oldest friend Pemra who was looking at her with shock written all over her face at how quickly the oddly pretty little creature had faded, "Fetch the healer at once, I believe I have injured this one quite badly" she said and Pemra saluted before racing towards the door and vanishing out of sight.
She laid down the limp creature again and she could hear its incredibly laboured breathing that was racked with coughs as its body desperately tried to clear its precious lifeblood from its lungs, she got the feeling that when she had lifted it up into the air she had inadvertently caused it to puncture its own lung on what she believed to be a broken bone in its chest.
Now while she had no idea what these strange little creatures were or where they had come from she could easily see that they were built rather similar to her kind due to the layout of their bodies, they had two arms, two legs, long torso's that had their sensitive organs protected by rib cages made of bones though they were obviously a lot more fragile than her kind were, she would have to be far far more gentle when handling them in the future.
As she watched the little pretty creature labouring to breathe and fighting for its very life she felt a pang of guilt shoot through her, she had not meant to injure it mortally or otherwise, she had only wanted to vent her rage and to intimidate it at being felled so easily, but now there was a very real possibility that this creature may lose its life thanks to her actions when she was now convinced all it had meant to do was warn her of the danger and she had paid his gesture back in pain and suffering.
The other little creature scrambled over to its companion and quickly began trying to help it breathe, it was shouting both at them and its companion, it was desperately trying to help it but she was no healer, she had no idea how to help the injured creature, she could fix basic battlefield wounds but she had no idea how to fix this, but she was aware of what was wrong with as a seasoned warrior and a blessed one at that she had seen wounds like this many times and they rarely ended well.
The door flew open with a bang making all of them jump and she turned to see Pemra had returned with the healer and a small female stepped through the doorway, her ink-black fur shining in the bright sunlight as she looked around with her wide milk brown eyes.
"Greetings honoured healer Lamel, I have summoned you here because it appears I have injured one of the strange creatures we saved from the cursed one earlier, it was an accident I did not mean to injure it but I believe it has a punctured lung from damage to its ribs," Ketra said and Lamel looked at her in surprise before turning her attention to the injured creature that was laid on her resting couch which had been gifted to her by Lord Betran himself upon her completing her training at the Great Arena where they trained her in the way of the Blessed Warrior, it had been among a few gifts that had been given to her upon her return to her home village with her new status bringing glory and honour to her town.
Lamel moved over to the fallen creature and went to examine him but the second one threw itself over it protectively and it was yelling loudly in its language, it was obviously scared that they were going to hurt its companion further, "Little one we mean your friend no harm, this is a healer she is going to try and make it well again" Ketra said softly under no illusion that the creature could understand what she was saying to it and honestly she could understand it's fear after having just witnessed her harm its friend over nothing more than what had obviously been a misunderstanding and honestly she was angrier at herself than the creature as she was still convinced that it had tried to warn her of the danger.
She looked at the yelling creature and realised that it looked different from the one it was trying to cover, though while there were obvious aesthetic differences its aura glowed as white as the one she'd hurt which meant that they were not evil creatures infact she rarely saw aura's as white as these which indicated that they were both pure of heart which made what she'd done feel all the worse.
She reached down and with one hand plucked the little yelling creature off its friend and turned and handed the kicking and yelling creature to Beva who looked confused as to what her leader wanted her to do, "Hold it make sure the honoured healer can do her work but be gentle it appears they are very fragile I do not wish this one to be harmed also" Ketra said as she placed the struggling creature into Beva's large hands and arms which completely enveloped the little creature's torso as she took hold.
Lamel cautiously leaned down and examined the creature by very gently touching its torso and examining its airways opening its smallmouth to reveal rather flat looking white teeth though it did have some pointy one's too, like one of the many carnivores of this world, did that mean these creatures were like them and ate both meat and plants?
"I believe you are correct Blessed One, it appears to have a lung that has been punctured by a piece of bone from a broken rib in its chest, though I cannot be sure yet I believe its chest cavity is much the same as our own but I will need to remove the clothing that it is wearing in order to not only properly examine it but in order to try and administer some form of treatment but I must warn you now success is not guaranteed, these wounds are very dangerous on our kind let alone a creature I have never encountered before, I may not be successful a wound like this can quite easily kill one of us let alone something as fragile as these creatures appear to be," Lamel said a hard note of concern in her voice.
"To be fair to it it did take a direct hit from a Cursed One to the chest so to be fair to it it might very well be tougher than it looks but I made the injury it had suffered worse in a fit of anger and embarrassment that as a Blessed Warrior I should be beyond, if it does die I will take the responsibility and blame for it, I will be the one to carry its memory and spirit on to the Plains of Reckoning," Ketra said and Lamel nodded understandingly, but in truth, she didn't understand none of them could really and how could they?
Between them they figured out how the little creature's odd garment functioned, they did not wish to destroy it if they did not have to as they did not know if it had some kind of cultural significance, they could wind up saving its life only to find out they had deeply insulted it and it's people by desecrating it's coverings, much like if one were to destroy a necklace of the remembered that the Blessed Warriors wore which allowed them to carry the strength of memories of every friend and comrade they had lost to battle.
They peeled the suit down its oddly furless body to just above its hips fully exposing its ebony-skinned chest, which even despite the darkness of its skin she could already see a sickening yellow and blue bruise dominating its entire left side reaching from its hip to its collar bone showing the sheer force of the hit the pretty little creature had survived taking.
This sent a spike of guilt right through to Ketra's heart, to have survived such a grievous impact only to now possibly lose its life to a misunderstanding and a movement borne of embarrassment was truly a dishonourable thing as not only was the creature defenceless at the time but it was restrained, she as Blessed Warrior should have known better, she was meant to be an example to her people, a beacon to the Gods themselves and this was not how she was supposed to behave, injuring an innocent creature who was restrained was shameful.
"Well, I can say at least one thing for sure," Lamel said suddenly and she glanced at her curiously.
"It is a 'he' this creature is male" she continued and Ketra felt her eyes widen in surprise, well at least that explained the lack of breasts on both of them, they must both be males of their species and it also possibly went a little way to explaining why she found him so aesthetically pleasing to look at.
"Hmmm well it looks like I have some other news and this is at least leaning towards the good side of things," Lamel said and Ketra turned towards the honoured healer hopefully.
"While he does indeed have a punctured lung I believe I can fix him with nothing more than a simple drain and plug, the wound itself seems to be pretty small, nothing more than a small cut, I, I felt the edge of the break and if I set that back into place and bind it that should hopefully prevent further damage and then I simply need to prepare some elastaroot and to quickly test it to ensure that his kind is not allergic to it and to ensure that their bodies will absorb it like ours would, once I know the answer to this question then I can treat him" she explained.
"Please do whatever it takes honoured healer," Ketra said trying to keep the desperation from her voice, she sorely did not wish this creature to lose his life, he and his comrade had been entrusted to her in order for her to question them and learn about them so losing one to stupidity would dishonour her greatly.
Lamel worked fast and with the diligence of a true healer, she pulled out a mortar and pestle and a world of little vials and tubes field with both liquids and powders not to mention weird and wonderful tools, as Ketra watched she mixed one of the powders into a strange pasted that stretched and flexed as it was mixed kinda like a rubber.
After testing a small amount on his bare skin and being seemingly pleased by his lack of reaction she took a large tool that looked like a very long needle that made a bit of a crunching noise as she pushed it through a small swabbed area of his chest and into his chest cavity.
There was a hiss as the gas that had escaped into his chest was removed instantly allowing him to breathe easier, then she took a second one and punched it through his rib cage and into his lung, this one drained the excess blood that had leaked into his lung from the wound before she was able to use a third one to inject a small amount of the elastaroot into the lung which would head straight for the wound and gum it up effectively plugging the hole shut like using gum to plug a leaking waterskin.
She worked on him for two hours but after she was done she sat back on her legs and beamed at Ketra, "His rib is set, his lung is plugged, I have covered the wound sites in herbs to prevent an infection forming though if they work on his kind is unknown, I have braced the broken rib with a brace bandage to spread the stress on it from his breathing which is now clear and clean, now all he needs is time and rest, though you might want to immobilise him to prevent him undoing what I have done when he wakes" she said and Ketra felt a massive wash of relief.
"Thank you honoured healer and I honour your effort on this creature's behalf, I will ensure the name is entered into the log of the honoured as the first to save one of these strange new creature's lives, all healers should know of your skill," Ketra said and Lamel smiled and nodded.
"Thank you Blessed one, you're words mean a great deal to me," she said and with more thanks, she left them to it.
"Let us move this one to my bed where he may rest and recover, place his friend back on my resting couch so he does not accidentally undo the honoured healer's work, now all we must do is wait until he awakes, in the meantime, I will begin the interrogation with the unharmed one," Ketra said and her friends and comrades all saluted.
"Yes Blessed One!" they all exclaimed and with that, they set to work.
