Chapter 5: Escape

Remy and Bishop sneak around the ship, seeing which collars the remote unlocks on their deck. Remy sneaks up the stairs to get to the girls deck, Bishop taking out some guards while he stealthily goes around. A few of the men from below deck come up the stairs, relieved to have their powers back. Some of the girls were scared but Bishop helped them while Remy searched for Rogue. "So, what's this plan of yours?" Bishop asks as he walks beside Remy after freeing some girls.

"I placed some o' dose explosives in spots on de ship, meanwhile dose that we freed can now use dere powahs t' escape o' take on de ot'er's above us," Remy explains. "But right now, I need t' find Rogue. 'M sure she'll be wit' Blink right now."

Rogue sighs as she leans on the balcony outside on a covered deck. The port was getting further and further away from her sight, which made her stomach swirl uneasily. Blink looks at her, frowning a bit. "What's the matter?" She asks.

"Ah still can't believe this is all happenin'…" Rogue puts her cheek on her hand as her elbow rested on the railing. "Ah don't think ah've evah felt this powahless…"

Blink gives her a reassuring smile. "It'll be okay. I'm sure our boys will figure something out."

"Blink!" Bishop's voice hisses out from a corner so he wasn't seen.

"Bishop?" Blink's brows furrow as she walks towards him. She gasps when she noticed his collar was off, seeing the confidence back in him. "Your collar?! How-?!"

"Gambit snooped around and found this," Bishop held out the remote. "Let's see if it works on yours."

He holds it up to her collar, hearing the beep and clank on the deck. Blink felt tears prick the corners of her eyes as her hand felt her neck. "Holy shit…." She whispers. "We're free."

Rogue was staring down at the waves blankly, figuring Blink would come back. She jumps in alarm when she felt a pair of arms hug her from behind. "'S jus' me." Remy whispers in her ear.

Rogue gasps, spinning around in his arms while her back was against the railing, her wide emerald eyes staring up into his red on black ones. "Don't scare meh lahke that swamp rat!" She hisses as she slaps his chest.

Remy gives her a sympathetic smile. "Sorry, chère."

"How'd ya get up heah?" She whispers, looking around.

"Did some snoopin' an' explorin'. Found m' Bo staff and cards dey took from m' and also a remote that unlocks some o' de collars. Guess dey don't have dem unlock all de collars dough." Remy explains as he pulls her to him.

Rogue's eyes were wide in astonishment, her mouth agape. "Wait… does that mean..some mutants on this boat have their collars off?"

"Oui." Remy nods. "Bishop has his off, 's probably helpin' Blink take 'ers off."

"So, what do we do now?" Rogue asks, her voice soft.

"Get off dis ship first, den find a safe place fo' us." Remy dips his head down to where his nose was inches from hers.

Rogue's eyes were lidded as he did this, her heart pounding as her hands were balled into fists in his shirt. Before Remy could close the space between them, a loud blast was heard, shaking the ship and causing the two to stumble, but he griped the railing while Rogue held onto him. "What was that?!" She asks.

"Eit'er de explosives o' de mutants dat are free." Remy looks up and around.

"Explosives?!" Rogue looks up at him with a questioning look.

An alarm starts to ring, men yelling from decks all over as people and mutants start to cause chaos. Regan looks to Marcus and Richter with his spilt bourbon, giving them a look and motioning to the decks below as he sat in a lavish armchair. The two southerners head over to where Bishop and Blink were, finding Blink practicing her powers a bit to get back into the swing of things. "Y' guys good?" Remy asks.

"All good here." Blink nods with a determined smile.

"We're going to start leading some mutants off this ship using Blink's portals." Bishop explains.

"We'll get dem t' y' so dey can all get out safely." Remy offers, looking at Rogue who nods in agreement.

The four split up, Rogue helping the girls get to Blink while she opens up portals that lead to the mainland. Remy helped some with Bishop, the ship rumbling with another explosion that list it to the side a bit. Rogue tries to steady herself while helping some girls go in the direction of Blink. What she didn't hear was footsteps coming up behind her and yanking her backwards, a yelp escaping her. "Just what do you think you're doing?" Richter asks, his hand gripping her hair.

"None ya business!" Rogue growls, jabbing her elbow into his stomach, causing him to let go.

Richter growls, kicking her in the back which causes her to let out a scream of pain and fall to the ground. "Looks like you're still injured, which gives me an advantage." He grins.

Rogue whimpers as she tries to crawl forward, but he jams his foot onto her back. She bites her lip to suppress a scream of pain, tears threatening to pour out. "You're not getting away that easily." Richter says lowly.

"G-go ta h-h-hell!" Rogue stutters, her back searing like it was on fire.

Richter sneers, bending down and holding her chin up. "We're in it already with freaks like you running around, but since you still got your collar on, you almost seem normal."

Rogue uses her hands to try to hit him, but they were light slaps that made him laugh. "Weak. I'll enjoy this." Richter slides his hand down her neck, slowly down her side.

Rogue's eyes widen, jamming her elbow into his face, causing him to stumble back. Richter yells in pain as she had gotten him in his still healing nose, fresh blood gushing out. "Fucking bitch!" He roars.

Rogue rolls onto her back, wincing hard, but she tries to get herself up and moving to get away from him. She kicks him in the thigh when he started to advance her again, but this only made him enraged even more. He steps forward and leans down and grabs her by the throat, pinning her to the floor and squeezing. Rogue gasps for air and tries to get him off of her, but her vision was starting to go black in the corners. Was this how she was going to go out? Her hands were merely taps as she tried to slap him off of her. She could feel her lungs struggling to find air. Richter grits his teeth as he chokes her, his eyes enraged.

Rogue was dancing at the edge of death when suddenly, the pressure was off of her throat and she let out a large gasp and started coughing. She opens her eyes to find Remy panting and holding his Bo staff extended in a protective stance with Richter on the ground knocked out. He looks over, concern filling his face as he leant down to help her sit up. "Easy, chère, easy." Remy soothes.

Rogue coughs, one of her hands going onto his shoulder as she sat up. His hand moves to her back, which makes her wince in pain. Remy noticed and moved it to the side of her body but she jolts at his touch. At first he was confused, but noticing her shaken up expression, along with the now slightly bruising on her delicate throat, Remy came to one conclusion and it made him feel sick. "C'mon, Rogue. Le's get out o' heah." He says softly to her. "'M gon' pick y' up, okay?"

Rogue nods as her coughing was dying down, her hands balled up into fists lying on her chest as Remy scooped her up into his arms and held her close, his staff in his trench coat after retracting it. She lays her head down on his chest, still trying to get back to a normal breathing rate. The ship creaks as they walk, Remy noticing it was starting to dip into the ocean. He tries to go back to where Bishop and Blink were, but the ship was starting to flood quickly and snap apart. "Hey, Gambit! You guys good?" Bishop shouts down from a level that was breaking apart.

"We're fine. We'll find a different way off." Remy shouts back.

"Good luck to you both!" Bishop sends his regards, then he disappears.

Remy rushes now as he carried Rogue, spotting a small wooden boat that was set up to launch down. He places Rogue in the boat, her looking at him. "What are ya doin'?" Her voice raspy as she asked.

"'M gon' start lowerin' y' down a bit, den get in." Remy says as he starts to slowly lower the boat.

He gets yanked away from the boat, causing it to drop into the water instead of gently lowering. Rogue braced herself then looked up at ship with wide, worried eyes. Remy grimaces as he looks up at who yanked him, growling as he noticed it was Marcus. "You're not getting away that easily!" Marcus snaps.

Remy balls up his fists, ready to fight. Marcus lunges forward, going for a face punch, but Remy dodged it and got him in the gut. Marcus yells, glaring at the Cajun, then he sends a flurry of punches, Remy dodging some but also taking some hits. He could feel the blood dripping from his nose a bit, gasping for air when he gets a knee to his gut.

The ship rumbles more, creaking as it starts to tear apart more, both guys stumbling in their scuffle. Remy uses this to send a kick to Marcus' chest, making him fall backwards. Remy runs towards the railing, ready to jump down into the ocean, but grunts when Marcus came back up and punched him. Remy turns and sends some more punches to Marcus, finally knocking him out. He dizzily gets up on the railing and jumps as the ship was starting to sink faster. Rogue watched him hit the water from the small boat, anxiously waiting for him to pop back up. She gasps when he didn't come back up, forcing herself up and diving into the water.

Rogue swims down and grabs a hold of Remy, swimming back up and gasping for air. She watched as the propeller of the ship slices their boat into pieces, immediately swimming to a large piece of the boat that they could both fit on. Rogue grunts as she hoisted Remy up on the wooden chunk, hearing him cough as she hoists herself up as she pants. "Are ya okay?" She asks, concerned.

Remy opens his eyes, noticing the concerned look she was giving him. "'M fine…" He breathes out. "Y' okay?"

Rogue nods, then she plops down tiredly onto the board as they drift away from the wreck. Remy's hand goes over hers, lacing his fingers with hers and giving them a light squeeze. She squeezes back as her eyes were shut as she was catching her breath. "Well, least we're out o' dat hell hole." Remy comments breathlessly.

"Yeah, but we still hafta get these stupid collars off." Rogue groans.

"Don' worry, 'll figure somet'in' out." Remy gives her hand another squeeze.

They both laid there tiredly, letting the waves drift them away as they recoup. Both having so much to say, but both were too tired to even say anything. Remy felt relieved that Rogue was safe. Sure they were going to need to just rest whenever they get to land, knowing they have newer injuries that need some tlc. Rogue was happy and relieved Remy was here with her, hoping they could relax once they find a place to lay low, but for now she was letting the waves carry them.

The yells of the traffickers became distant as they drifted, mostly all the mutants were off that ship as it sank. Regan had made a call to Japan, saying they were behind schedule as the ship was destroyed by mutants somehow, no one figuring it out that Remy had started it but that only a good portion of the mutants had their collars off somehow. Now it was going to be hard for the traffickers to gather mutants and find another ship, but the two southerners were just glad to be out of that situation.
