His body aches terribly and he weakly puts up his hand to his ear to try the block out the piercing silence. The cold riddles his body and he shivers. Only when he opens his eyes and turns his neck to face the light behind him is when his head pounds and sends a sharp pain from his neck to the back of his head. Ciel groans in pain and places his other hand to the back of his head in an attempt to put pressure to the pain.

Ciel shifts his body and shivers. The cold air sheets over his scalded palm from the fire. He looks down at himself to see that he is still in his nightwear. His stomach growls in hunger.

Eyes immediately setting on solid bars that enclose him, his heart sinks.

He looks up at the singular bright light that illuminates a particular section in the pitch dark room, such as a lone streetlight in the middle of a street that shines down on one spot, leaving a mass of darkness around it.

Ciel sets his eyes on a dirty white marble table with a gold rim. Dirt, leaves and black feathers litter the ground outside of his cage. Ciel tries to squint his eyes to make out any of his surroundings, but fails to see anything beyond the darkness around him.

He focuses his hearing on anything that would indicate another being in the room with him, but nothing met him except dead silence. Not even a passing wind.

His stomach speaks again and a single hot tear rolls down Ciel's cheek. He crawls to the front of the cage and takes hold of the lock and shakes it before slowly griping his hand around two bars, ignoring the icy touch. He lightly shakes the bars to test their sturdiness, trying to find an instability. Nothing budges, they are strong. He does this several more times, circling inside of the cage, desperate to find a weakness to escape, but no avail.

Ciel sits back and manages to control his breathing. He rattles his brain with various ways he can break out and escape, but regardless of how many scenarios he comes up with, nothing would be able to defeat the iron cage that entraps him.

Obviously someone put him here. Someone took him from his home, his parents.

It finally hits and the moments flashes back in his mind. His home showered in flames and seeing his parents...

"Oh God..." Ciel's voice cracks, feeling his eyes heat and water with tears. He leans his head back on the bars and places his scalded hands over his stomach. Tears trickle down his face and he furrows his brows.

His parents were good people. They kept wonderful relationships with their peers and close ones in tact, especially. Why would anyone care to hurt them? And him? Is he being held captive for some sort of ransom? If that's the case, was the murder of his parents necessary? How would they benefit from this kidnapping by killing the source of their financial gain?

'Why didn't they kill me?' Ciel wonders. Was he being stalked? What did the person or people who did this want? Was there a value in Ciel that they saw? Perhaps there's a chance for Ciel to negotiate his freedom.

Ciel replays the moments of tragedy in his mind several times. His racing mind blocks out the cries of hunger from his stomach. His breathing slows and he closes his eyes. He lets out a dry, sad laugh.

What is he to do?

Several hours pass by and Ciel still finds himself alone, cold and in complete silence.

His stomach roars again and he exhales in exhaustion, wondering if he were taken to be abandoned here, left to die from thirst and starvation.

He groans and swallows and lets out a ragged breath. His eyes snap open when he hears a loud creak from somewhere. It didn't come directly from the area he was in, but in the distance.

Footsteps gradually grows as they approach the room to Ciel. Keys jingle and after a few moments, a loud click. The door creaks open and is unsettling. Ciel's heart is racing and his throat begins to tightens, not knowing where his fate lies. He quickly tries to come to an acceptance of his life ending in the most horrific of way, whether it be fast and merciful or slow and sadistic, but his body quivers in fear.

The person strolled to the front of the cage and Ciel eyes the person carefully, taking mental notes of anything unique or specific about the person in case he is able to get away and makes a report. The person is tall and has a lean masculine build underneath the heavy dark coat. Leather gloves covering large hands. This is a man. They bend down and the light only met the back of the figure, but its bright light was able to illuminate enough to create a fine outline of a...face? No, a mask.

Ciel looks at the dark figure with stoic eyes. He tries to mask fear with a facade of nonchalance and content, but his heavy ragged breathing and shaking body gives him away. Behind the mask, the person watches Ciel in silence. Moments pass and nothing is said between the two.

Ciel refrains from asking for food, begging for release, begging for his life, but his stomach growls once more.

The hooded masked man stands and leaves the room and leaves the door open to where Ciel can see a dimly lit long hall with a door at the end. He can't tell what type of setting he's in, whether it's a house, building or otherwise. Shifting can be heard from around the door and the man comes back with a handful of items. A large duffle bag in one hand, a bucket with the handle bar held in the crease of his forearm and elbow, a new roll of toilet paper held by the ring and pinky finger and a bowl clutched between the thumb and index.

The man walked back to the cage and knelt down, keys jingling. He set down the items and then pulled a large dagger from out of his inner coat pocket and Ciel inhales sharply. The crossguard was silver and the grip, golden. One hand holding the dagger and the other reaching for a specific key to unlock the lock on the iron cage that traps the blue eyed young man.

Opening the cage, the man thrusts the dagger right at Ciel's throat and Ciel jumps and throws his hands up indicating he is not resisting. He tries to force the tears back from flowing from his eyes but he fails and swallow hard, choking back a cry.

The man holds the blade steady and uses his other hand to throw the bag, bucket and toilet paper into the cage with Ciel. He slides the bowl towards Ciel and then quickly locks the cage again and Ciel releases the tensity in his muscles. Looking down at the items the man threw into the cage, Ciel fixed his eyes on the bowl of food. Rice and meat. Ciel jumps as he's hit on the arm with a bottle of water the man threw at him from outside the cage.

The man leaves, door slamming behind him and creating an echo. He locks the door behind him and his footsteps fade until Ciel is sure that the man has left. Ciel grabs the bowl and smells the food. It's warm. He grabs a handful of rice and shoves it in his mouth, and then the beef. While it was cooked, it lacked seasoning to make it tasteful, but he isn't in position to be picky.

Finishing the food and drinking half of his water, Ciel places the bowl down and lets out a deep breath. He looks over the items now with him in the cage once more. His eyes first land on the bucket and the toilet paper. In a way he's relieved that he wasn't forced to use the bathroom on himself, he sadly sighs. Feeling a chunk of his dignity being dug out and knows that this will be his bathroom. He hopes that for as long as he's alive in here, he will be granted the privacy and not have the man watching him, humiliating him more than what he feels now.

He sits the bucket up and drags it to the side to shift over the bag. He unzips it and a dense foam mat unfolds and an end pops out. Ciel pulls it out from the bag and lays it on the floor. At the bottom are also two blue pillows and a thick blue blanket. Ciel takes them out the bag and lays it on the mat. The pillows and blanket is obviously designed her small male children. The blue pillows and blanket had white cartoonish clouds patterns to match.

He runs his hands through his hair and then nestles his knees into his chest and buries his face, letting tears fall and small cries echo into his new home.

Ciel has had no track of time. No more could he tell the difference between hours and days and time became nonexistent. But unbeknownst to him, almost a month has passed.

While he had no sense of time, he had adjusted to routine. When he heard the man approach, he knew it was only to feed him which would be twice a day.

Days had gone by before Ciel first spoke to the man, asking him what he wanted, why he was doing this to him, if he could let him go, offering him money in exchange for his freedom, but all of his questions and attempts of negotiation were ignored. Each time Ciel spoke, he was met with the man stopping what he was doing to just stare at Ciel through his hood and mask. The man never spoke. Never showed his face. Never showed anything identifiable. And also, which was very strange to him... he never harmed Ciel.

Ciel was alone most of the time, the man only ever coming in to feed him and give him additional toilet paper and while he was sleeping, he would empty and wash Ciel's bucket so that the proximity to his own waste and mere smell wouldn't make him ill. Only once, did the man take a chair and place it in front of the cage, sit down and watch him in silence for hours.

The man would reach out to softly and slowly pet Ciel through the bars, having the young male jitter. This was the most that Ciel felt uneasy, this was out of the norm that he had grown accustomed to for the past couple weeks and didn't know what to expect.

Ciel never left the cage. He was met with basic survival needs like being fed and given "shelter" and being cleaned up after. But what was the goal? Was this what the person wanted? To make Ciel his pet?

The only thing missing from Ciel's basic needs was the need to bathe.

He had gone weeks without a bathe or being able to brush his teeth and he felt disgusted with himself. Layers of plaque accumulated on his teeth. His tongue was blanketed with thrush, felt heavy and rough. The grime built on his body and he felt weighed down and lethargic. Being able to smell the odor his body produced only made it the more depressing and humiliating.

But this day was different. A day he would remember, because it was special. And he knew this day very well.

The man had arrived, almost in a rush and kept the door cracked. And oddly, this day, he hadn't fed Ciel. He woke Ciel up out of his sleep with the same dagger as he always carried to Ciel's throat. Dragging Ciel out of the cage and forcing him in a corner, another dim light was set for Ciel to see a stool and a steaming bucket of water with a simple rag and bar of soap.

Ciel shivered in the cold corner and slowly stripped himself of his clothes , still leaving on his underwear. The man nudged him to remove those as well and Ciel hesitantly complied. The man stood behind him and simply watched.

"I-.. I'm finished." Ciel said in a shaky breath. As he turned around, clothes were thrown in Ciel's face.

He gasped and gripped the fresh clothes, hearing the man walking around in the back with something else burning not too far away. After changing and body still damp, the man gripped the back of Ciel's neck and pushed him towards the marble table. He pushed Ciel down on the table, laying prone.

"Wh- What are you doing?" Ciel's voiced cracked hearing the man walk back. The smell of something burning was now greater than before and Ciel's heart began racing, but didn't have the courage to get up or run.

The man remained silent and walked back slowly. Ciel turned his head to try and see what the man was doing and his eyes focused on the cracked open door.

His eyes widened in disbelief and hope, but it was quickly snatched away from him when he felt the man lean over him and lift up his shirt. The man leans down to Ciel's ear, pressing himself onto his right side.

"Happy Birthday Ciel..." The voice softly whispers.

Just a second passes for Ciel to comprehend, a loud and blood curdling wail roared from Ciel's throat. The man pressed the branding iron onto the side of Ciel's left waist. His damp skin only making it he blazing heat much more excruciating and unbearable.

"Please stop! Please!" Ciel cried.

Instinctually pushing the man off with all the strength Ciel's adrenaline provides him, he jumps off the table and books it for the door. He flings the door open and runs down the dimly lit hall and for the door at the end.

Busting the door open, Ciel runs out and finds himself in a dark wooded area, not too far from a road. He ignores the sharp icy pain of snow under his feet as he runs for the road, hoping that someone is near to help.

Making it to the main road, Ciel runs to his left. With adrenaline on his side, Ciel ran for several minutes before seeing headlights in the distance.

HELP! Please help! Help me please!"Ciel screams and waves his hand to attract the attention of the driver and to prevent them from possibly running him over. The driver honks violently to get Ciel off the road, but he is staunch.

"Please stop!" Ciel begs and the driver breaks. Ciel rushed to the passenger side and tries to open the door but it's locked.

"Please help me!" Ciel cries. The woman in the car hesitates trying to quickly make up of what to do. Seeing the young man in what she discerns as genuine distress, she unlocks her door and Ciel quickly climbs in.

"Jesus Christ child..." She eyes Ciel carefully.

"Please drive! He's probably still coming!" Ciel shakes violently and wipes tears from his face.

The woman quickly puts the car in drive and pulls off in the opposite direction. Ciel leans back trying to relax and then hisses when pressure is applied to the burning mark on his body.

"...What happened to you?" She asks.

"A man-.. H-He... He kidnapped me and kept me in a cage. I got to escape after he took me out of the cage and I saw he left the door open." Ciel said breathlessly. "I think he killed my parents too..." Continuing to wipe his tears.

The woman glanced over at Ciel.

"...Do... Do you want me to take you to a hospital... Or a police station?"

"I-... I-... No. I need the police to come here so I can show them." Ciel said before his stomach growled.

"How about we get you something to eat before we take you there."

"Okay..."

"There's a gas station just up the road."

Several more minutes pass by before the woman pulls into the parking lot of an Esso gas station where two police cruisers are immediately seen by Ciel.

He doesn't give a chance for the woman to completely pull in to a parking spot before Ciel jumps out and rushes towards the cops who were out of the cruiser and walking into the gas station.

"Officers!" Ciel cries. "I need your help!"

The officers turn and are on guard as they see the disheveled and distressed young man. One put his hand up to create distance and the other on his weapon.

"Hold on, sir. What's happening?" The cop said as the other 3 stand close by.

"Someone kidnapped me! I just escaped! I need you to come with me!" Ciel cries and one of the cops eye him carefully.

"What's your name, sir?"

"Ciel Phantomhive. I think he killed my parents too..."

"Ciel Phantomhive?" One of the officers says as the other look in disbelief.

"He has a warrant for his arrest..." Another says as Ciel's eyes widen.

"What? What for?" Ciel asks in shock as the officers circle him and one pulls out their handcuffs.

"Wait! What are you doing?!" He asks frantically as the officer behind him turns him around and the other places his hands behind his back and handcuffs him. Ciel groans once more as his arm brushes back over his brand mark.

"Ciel Phantomhive, you are under arrest for the murder of Vincent and Rachel Phantomhive and arson. You do not have to say anything, but it may harm your defense if you do not mention when questioned on which you later rely on in court. Anything you do say may be given in evidence." The officer states as another opens the car door and sets Ciel inside.

"No! I didn't kill my parents! I didn't! The man who kidnapped me did! Please believe me!" His cries fall on deaf ears. The two officers who initiated the arrest climb into the driver and passenger seat as the other two are approached by the woman that drove Ciel to the gas station with a concerned look on her face as she keeps looking back at Ciel who sits in the back of the vehicle.

The officers pull the cruiser from the gas station parking lot and to the nearest station. Ciel continues to plead with the officers and convince them of his kidnapping and tells them that he will show them his branding if they let him, but the officer in the passenger's seat tries to get Ciel to calm down and tells him that he will be able to speak his side of the story once they reach the station.

God... What is happening...?

Failing in his attempts, Ciel lowers his head, dark locks of his hair blocking his swelling eyes.

'Happy Birthday to me…'
