May gave a grand tour of the home, starting off with the living room, then slowly up to her bedrooms upstairs. She also explained to Nova that she should not go into the basements or attic unless she was supervised by May or Ben due to the creepy crawlers and things that may be dangerous for a child to explore alone. Lastly, the big reveal was the girl's own room, which had the basic needs for a regular girl her age. Pastels of blues, purple, and pinks which Nova's eyes sparkle in awe with delight. Back at the orphanage, she did not have her own room nor bed that was as warm nor comfortable. But this bed looked like a fluffy cloud surrounded by toys that were intact and new with color.
"Is this really my room?" Asked Nova as she gaped at what was before her, still clinging to her old teddy bear in arms.
"Of course," May chuckled, "it's not like we were going to let you sleep in the backyard," she joked. "Don't be shy, check it out. It is all yours."
With no hesitation, Nova ran inside and plopped onto the bed. She could not recall the last time she felt a comfortable bed; ever. Plus, it smelled so nice like a field of flowers.
"Look Teddy," she whispered into the bear's torn ear, "You have friends now," she placed her old raggy bear down with the other toys. In her mind, they were awkwardly greeting each other.
May stood by, watching the child interacting in her room, with a warm feeling inside her chest. "Is Teddy liking his new friends?" She asked.
Nova paused, looking at Teddy and imaging his response before nodding, "Mhm, he said they are fine, but he is unsure they will like him back."
"Well, if you give them alone time, maybe they will be bound a bit more by the time you return," May responded before they could hear a door opening and closing from downstairs. "Oh good, they are home," she chirped.
Nova became hesitant once again. They?
"Come now," May ushered her, "It's time you two meet."
Before Nova knew it, they head back downstairs into the dinning room where Ben was now at along with a little boy her age.
"Peter, this is Nova," Ben introduced, "Nova, meet Peter, he is our nephew."
The two children quietly stared at each other, waiting for the other to make a move.
"Peter, why don't you two go to your room and play with some of your toys. How about some of your dinosaur collection," suggested May.
Nova's eyes lit up, "You got Dinosaurs!!"
The young boy shyly nodded, "Yeah… I have about one hundred and fifteen species of them. But, did you know there are over seven hundred? Possible nine hundred other species, and they are being discovered every so often!"
"Really!" Nova was in awe with this information.
"Yes Really!" Peter went on as the shyness between the two faded as the convention went to extinct reptiles.
"I bet you can't name them all," Nova challenged the boy's powerful mind.
"Sure I can! There is the Stegosaurus, Spinosaurus, Allosaurus," Peter said proudly as he dashed to his room calling all the dinosaurs names, Nova followed closely behind him up the staircase.
Soon enough, the little, quiet house became filled with childish laughter and little tapping feet above the couple's heads.
May then whispers to her husband, "Did we make a good choice?" she asked.
Ben pulled her close to him with a warm smile, "The best decision we have ever made."
Hey there, if you are wondering why I'm rewriting this story is to shorten it and try to make it readable as possible with less wording. Also, i was not happy with how it went and like to go to a different route. If you happen to like this story, please give it a follow! But if you like the original contact, then I'll post the last cringing chapters there to finish it once and for all or make it an all cringe trilogy.
Anyway, thank you!
