Later that day,
Nova really had fun at the Osborn house, mainly with Harry as they played crash auto together. Soon it was time for her to go.
"Do you have to leave," Harry moaned as Nova got up from the couch to stretch.
"Do you want my folks banging at your door?" Nova hummed as she went to pull out her phone to call the house, for no one in the family had a cellphone but her.
"How about I take you home?" Norman offered, "I was about to head to my lab to cheek on things."
"Oh you don't have to," Nova denied his offer.
"But I insist," Norman kept pursuing, "I offer you a ride here, I can do the same back."
Nova was a bit hesitant at first until she gave a nod of approval.
"Excellent, I'll go call one of my cab drivers," he said before leaving the room.
When he left, Nova was sort of regretful of her decision. Evently, she did make her call and told Ben she was coming home.
As the moment arrived, Nova waved her goodbyes to Harry.
"Don't forget, after school Tuesday, we are hanging out with Kong and Flash," Harry reminded her.
"I was hoping we will forget that," Nova mumbled. The whole week, Flash and Kong had not bothered them more than usual. Kong was nicer and Flash was avoiding them. It was so peaceful that it was also nerve-racking.
A limo pulled up and Norman opened the door for her to enter first before crawling in after. Nova sat the oppisted from facing the back of the limo driver, who wore a cap on his head.
Norman gave the driver the address to her home before moving.
"Thank you for inviting me over," said Nova as she gave an appreciative smile.
"It is nothing at all, Nova," he smiled back, "It was a pleasure to get to know you. If you like, you are always welcome to our home."
"Really?"
"Yes, it is good to know my son has a good friend on his side. Just like you."
"Well you should know he has two others, like MJ and my cousin, Peter," said Nova.
His brow raised a bit, "Cousin you say. As from the mother side or father side?"
"Well… uh…." Nova felt uncomfortable answering.
"It is fine, you don't have to answer that question. How have you been since the incident two weeks ago?"
"We've been doing good, actually," Nova said, feeling uneasy every moment. No matter how wide a space this limo is, it felt small and Nova could feel his eyes on her through the car trip that she started to feel uneasy. Turning her focus towards the window to stare at the pass by trees.
"Wait…. This is not the direction to my house," she pointed, now realizing they were heading in the wrong direction.
"I know but I need to do something at the lab. It won't take long, I promise," he smirks. "Maybe you should come along and be my temporary assistant?"
Nova's eyes moved to the back of the cab driver's head and could see his reflection in the rearview mirror. Seeing part of his face. The same one that almost ran her over a couple days ago.
"Let me go," she begged.
"Oh I'm afraid I can't," Norman hummed, "I need you for something really important that may help mankind in the future."
"I rather not be part of it!" she pushed herself in the corner.
"But you do not have a choice," he moved closer to her.
With a quick knee jerk reaction. Nova kicked Norman in the face before turning to the door and pushing it open by force. The limo driver swived as Nova leaped out of it. Norman tried to grab her, but she slipped from his grasp by disappearing.
The limo finally came to a stop.
Shaw removed his cap and turned to Norman, "Are you okay, sir?"
Norman groaned as he wiped the blood from his mouth. He looked over at the damage.
"Should I go after her, sir?" Shaw asked as he pulled something out of the glove department.
"No," Norman finally said, "I got all the information I need."
Nova did not how she did it but she managed to find her way home. When she got to the door, she found it unlocked and breceded inside. It was quiet, too quiet that she tiptoed her way to the staircase.
"Nova, is that you?" May's voice called from the living room.
Nova froze at the first few steps, "Yes?" she answered.
"Oh good you're home," Ben's voice said. "Would you like to come over and play old maid with us and tell us about your day at the Osborn's?"
"No that you," Nova called back as she resumed moving up the stairs, "I'm really exhausted and would like to go to bed."
"Okay, we will talk more in the morning."
Nova made it to her room and shut the door, before crashing into her bed. She groaned.
Before she could even sigh with relief, there was a knock on the door.
"Nova, it's Peter. Let me in."
Nova singles him in. Once he did, Peter sat on the edge of her bed, in silence.
"So they got you too?"
Nova nodded her head in her pillow. "Norman was trying to take me to his lab, but I managed to escape."
"That baster," Peter mumbled, "He sent one of his goons and took some of my blood sample," he rubbed his arm, for the stinging sensation was still there.
"What should we do?" Nova looked over at him.
"For now, keep away from him," Peter faced her. "For I think he already knows what we are capable of but not sure that would stop him from getting to us."
"Should we tell May and Ben about this?"
"No," Peter said sternly, "With all cost, they should not know. No one should know."
"Not even Harry?" Nova sank.
"Not even Harry," he repeated.
The room fell silent once again.
Nova curled her legs to her chest, "Things seems to get worse and worse every time."
Peter raised an eyebrow at her, "What do you mean?"
"I mean since the spider bite, things turn to the wost."
"What are you talking about?" Peter got up and turned to her, "We have some bumps in the road and someone tried to kill us that one time."
Nova shook her head, "Peter, there is something else," she looked up at him before looking at her own hands. "I did something horrible to screw up this family when I crushed Flash's hand."
Peter's expression dropped, "What are you talking about?"
Nova setup to look him straight in the eye, "Flash family is suing us, Peter. Over 20k as we speak."
"They what!" his jaw dropped, looking a bit faint.
Nova nodded. "And it's all my fault," she started to cry.
Petre looked sympathetic at his cousin and returned to her side. Putting an arm over her shoulder and holding her close. "It's okay," he said gently, "It was an accident and we will fix this."
Nova sniffly looked at him. "How?"
"I-I don't know but I will figure it out. I promised." he lightly smiled at her.
Nova leaned her head to his shoulder, "You know Peter, I'm always trying to protect you but this time, I feel like everything went the other way."
"I don't think so," Peter lightly smiled, "We have each other, for we are family."
Nova felt at ease and hugged her cousin tight.
"I promed you, Nova," he whispered to her, "We will work through this, together."
