Franken-Mollie: The Mad Science Fair Part 1

One day, mail was delivered to the McGee/Chen Haunted Home. Sharon collected it, and looked it over.

"Bills, more bills, sheesh. Running a hotel is exhausting." she said. As she took the envelopes to the front desk, a flyer fell out. Franken-Mollie picked it up. They looked at it.

"Sweet baby corn!" Molly gasped. "We gotta show this to Libby!" She dragged Ollie to the lab. Libby was looking over blueprints of her old inventions, when there was a knock at the door.

"Come in." Franken-Mollie raced into the lab.

"Libby, you gotta see this, you'll really like it!" Molly squeed, making them bounce.

"Slow down! You'll make me upchuck!" Ollie complained.

"Sorry." Molly said. She handed the flyer to Libby, who read it.

"Whoa! The 124th Annual Mad Science Fair is a week from now! I have to enter!" She logged onto the online sign-up sheet.

"What invention will you enter?" Ollie asked.

"Well, my acapella-singing carnivorous plant broke up with itself, the hair colour-changing shampoo ran out, and someone used my laser toaster on food that isn't bread!" Libby looked over to Scratch, who was snoozing in his spiderweb hammock.

"Hey! You know how long it takes to thaw a frozen burrito in the microwave?" he retorted.

Molly thought, and had a great idea. "We can be your entry!"

"No mad scientist I know of has created a two-headed monster out of corpses before." Libby pondered. "Alright, you will be my entry!" They high-fived.

Over the remainder of the week, the three friends packed their bags, booked a room at the hotel in the town where the event was being held, etc.

Soon, on the day before the fair, they said goodbye to Franken-Mollie's families, and climbed into Leah's car. She was going to be their adult supervision. They started off down the road.

To pass the time, the kids played road games and sang songs. Soon they arrived at the hotel, and checked in.

Upon settling into their room, Libby looked over the list of entries other than herself. The fair was a two-day event, with the inventions passing from the judging on Day 1 to some contests the next day. "There sure are a lot of infamous scientists this year. I've read about them in magazines and newspapers before. I'm not sure I have a chance."

"You'll beat them. I know you can do it." Leah said.

"With us, you'll win for sure!" Molly added. Libby felt more confident with her mother and friends' support.

The next day, they went to the convention center where the event was being held. Libby and Franken-Mollie went to the reception desk.

"Name?" asked the troll behind the counter.

"Libby Stein-Torres." Libby said. "This is my entry, a composite of my friends Molly McGee and Oliver Chen, know as Franken-Mollie."

"Hi!" they waved.

"Enter through these doors." they were told. The friends went in, and were amazed by all the inventions and their creators attending.

"I've never seen so many mad scientists!" Libby said in awe. She noticed one nearby.

"That's Professor Von Baddski! He won the past several fairs with his entries!" she said.

"Really? Like what?" Franken-Mollie asked.

"One time, he made a mind control device that forces its victims to act like a studio audience at a sitcom filming!" Libby told them.

"Forcing people to laugh when they don't want to? That is evil!" Molly gulped. "I sure hope we can beat him." Von Baddski saw the kids and came over to them.

"Well, well. What have we here?" he sneered. "Seems I have some new competition. You don't have a chance against my entry for this year! Good luck, not!" he mocked, and walked off laughing.

"I'll show him!" Libby shook her fist.

"Never mind about that." Ollie told her. "Just focus on doing the best you can."

"You're right. Let's get our display set up." They got to work on it, and were soon ready for the judges.

They walked down the hall, observing and taking notes on each display. Soon they approached Von Baddski.

"Good to see you again." said the head judge, who was literally just a head in a jar. "What did you enter this year?"

Von Baddski pulled the tarp off his invention. It was a 20-foot tall robot that looked pretty intimidating. "Behold the Killinator! It is programmed to destroy whatever I tell it to! Observe." Von Baddski pointed to a nearby churro cart. "Destroy it!" he ordere.

"TARGET LOCKED. ACTIVATING DESTRUCTO-LASER." the Killinator said, and fired. The churro cart was reduced to dust. "TARGET DESTROYED."

"Seems like another first place for you." the head judge said. He moved on to Libby's display. "And what do you have for us?"

"I have created life!" Libby showed Franken-Mollie to the judges. "With electricity and medical science, I brought these two people back from the brink of death by sewing them into a single entity!" she said.

"It's true!" Molly said. "Without her, Ollie and I wouldn't be here today."

"We owe our lives to her. She's a true friend." Ollie added.

"That's fine and all, but what do you do?" the head judge wanted to know. "Any destructive capabilities?"

"No!" Molly said. "We want to enhappify and engoodify the world, not ruin it!"

"Yeah!" Ollie went on. "Just because we're a monster doesn't mean we have to act like one. Libby used her science for good! Why can't others do the same?"

The judges wrote down their findings and moved on. When all the inventions had been checked out, the judges called everyone to the stand for an announcement.

"The following scientists will be moving on to tomorrow's events!" the head judge said. His partner pressed a button, and a list of names appeared on a board above them.

"Look!" Molly said. "Libby, you're going on tomorrow!" She and Ollie hugged their friend. Von Baddski was moving on too, but he was not happy. The young scientist and her two-headed pal were starting to tick him off…
