Karr had arrived at Devon's property sometime that morning. He'd been rather hesitant to go near Devon's residence to begin with, but Kitt had been effective in convincing him. Not only that, Karr's fuel tank was starting to dwindle. Kitt was awaiting him patiently standing quietly in a double door garage, not too far away Devon Miles and Bonnie Barstow was standing in expectation. Devon had his hands crossed and looked to be skeptical as Karr rolled into the driveway as quietly as he could manage. Dr. Barstow looked more scrutinizing than Mr. Miles. It seemed her surveying glare was much more tormenting too and Karr was quick to take a defensive stance. She was well aware anyways of what he'd done in his last confrontation with Michael Knight and Kitt. He also suspected that she had lots of resentment towards him, given the fact he had almost killed Kitt, who he was aware meant lots to her.
He stopped just a couple feet from them, taking in their silence with a grain of salt as Kitt kept reassuring him through the private link between them. He stood there for a moment, awaiting their attack but it never came.
"Karr," began Mr. Miles, "I understand you've helped Kitt arrive safely home and I…" Devon gulped, glancing at Bonnie who continued to wear her studying expression. "I thank you." Devon finally managed, letting go of a deep breath.
Karr continued to study the two awaiting his reply. He was impressed. Had Kitt gotten them to thank him? Him? Out of all things? He could hardly believe it!
"I'd be much obliged if I was provided fuel," Karr replied, coolly. Hesitant to openly share his true sentiment.
Bonnie glanced over her shoulder towards Kitt, who'd been watching over the encounter curiously. His scanner swayed at a steady pace reassuringly. She sighed.
"I'll get to it." She whispered to Devon, heading towards the garage cautiously. Devon gave her a worrying gesture as she quickly stepped away. He averted his gaze from Karr, never meeting eyes with his scanner for too long.
"Your arrogance is amusing." Karr finally broke the silence, as Devon meekly fiddled with his tie meeting panicked glances with the amber scanner. "You don't have to stand there mindlessly. I despise you just as much as you detest me." Karr growled, taking Devon by surprise as he began to make his way next to Kitt. He backed up slowly into the space just beside him in the garage before turning his engine off and taking in the cool air-conditioned garage with glee.
Devon's jaw dropped, taking in the spectacle of both vehicles parked alongside each other in complete companionship.
"How was the drive, Karr?" Kitt inquired, attempting to lighten up the mood.
"Hard enough." Karr snarled in Devon's direction.
"Now, Karr, hold on a minute." Kitt protested, "Devon isn't completely at fault here. He helped me, didn't he? He's also helping you. So why can't we call it a draw?" Kitt coaxed, with the gentle beating of his scanner.
Karr went about the comment silently. Looking over Devon's surprised expression gloomily. Maybe Kitt was right. His loathing for Devon Miles would be robbing him of a singular window of opportunity that he would otherwise not have if it weren't for Kitt working as a broker between them.
"I acknowledge that," Karr replied, making Devon take a gentle step back in quiet relief. "I just insist that Devon Miles personally give me his word of honor." He remarked, knowing very well that said subject was best addressed as soon as possible if not right away. He didn't want Devon chasing after him with pliers and a hacksaw once he decided to depart with Kitt. He awaited the human to process what he'd just said anxiously.
Devon straightened his tie for probably the fifth time since Karr had driven into the driveway. His hair was gently ruffled by the gentle breeze.
"Karr, you have my word. We'll not...under…" He stuttered a little, wiping sweat off his forehead, the sun was beating strong above him. "Under no circumstances will you be deactivated." He grimaced finally.
Karr took the gesture gratifyingly.
"I see this causes you affliction. Let that sink in that I won't be rotting in a corner any time soon." He snickered.
Bonnie was quick in clearing her throat as she hauled a heavy jug of fuel approaching Karr while she'd been quietly spectating the exchange from the back wall. Before she could so much as ask him to pop open the fuel cap, he did so respectfully without a word. She acknowledged it with a slight nod.
She was gentle to empty the jug's contents into his tank, avoiding so much as brushing against Karr. Kitt noted the hitch in her vitals signs with worry.
"Bonnie," Kitt soothed. "He won't hurt you." He assured, causing her to slightly jerk in place and looking in Kitt's direction casting him a grateful smile. Once Karr was refueled she re-capped the fuel cap, hastily giving him space and walking up to Devon who seemed heavily pensive at the moment.
"Karr and I insist you give me your word of honor!" Devon suddenly exclaimed having found a loophole. Bonnie suddenly broke into light laughter when Karr's scanner froze mid sway.
"You never cease to amaze me." Karr sighed, annoyed. "Very well, I, the Knight Automated Roving Robot, give Devon Miles my word of honor to not harm anyone if he promises to never discard me for scrap." He groaned. "...Or the Knight Industries Two Thousand." He promptly added, silencing Bonnie's laughter and wiping off Devon's confident grin altogether. Earning Karr a mischievous sway of his scanner in turn.
"Thank you, Karr," Kitt replied, heavily grateful. His scanner picked up speed cheerfully.
Devon gasped.
"Karr, pardon me for asking but, why all of a sudden you've come to grow an attachment for Kitt?" He curiously asked, bringing his hand up to his chin.
Karr's scanner froze yet again. Why were humans so keen on meddling with others' reasonings?
"Can I appeal another word of honor from your behalf?" Karr smirked internally. "One that involves halting you from prying into my innermost reasonings and computations?"
Devon couldn't help and lightly laugh alongside Bonnie.
"Isn't it a shame Devon?" Kitt remarked, taking this opportunity to speak, "That we didn't get Karr on the team sooner?"
Devon smiled nervously at Karr and gave Bonnie a weary smile. He'd sometimes think about how all would have gone if Karr had been a total success. He was aware that deep in his heart he'd felt slightly upset with the complete discarding of Karr's being. He was more than just chips and silicon, just like Kitt after all, he'd come to learn this over the years. Sadly Karr lacked compassion towards humans at the beginning of things, but that had been part of the development team's fault. They could have reprogramed him, couldn't they have? He had been rather unpredictable and maybe a threat due to programming but people could change, couldn't they? He was a person after all wasn't he? If only they would have understood so sooner. Now was the time for them to correct his ways, something they should have done a long time ago. He just hoped it wasn't too late.
"Time will tell." He replied, politely dismissing himself from the crowd and heading inside. His mind was at unease thinking over many things, and maybe a little rest would help him see things clearly.
They all watched in silence as he vanished into his home.
Bonnie turned to the two vehicles as the door quietly clicked behind him.
"Karr, I uh, apologize." She gently bit her bottom lip. "Uh, wanna start over?" She voiced, sounding apprehensive.
Karr had to admit he was rather overwhelmed with the humans. He was overtaken by his own found feelings and now he wasn't too sure how to go about with everyone's polite apologies. Wasn't he supposed to be apologizing to them instead? Again, it was very strange that people like Devon and Bonnie would so much as have consideration towards him given the circumstances.
"Kitt?" He blurted into the private link looking for assurance.
"Yes, Karr?" Kitt replied, sounding tranquil.
"Do you still trust them?"
Kitt went momentarily silent, taking in the question overjoyed.
"Yes, Karr, I do."
"Very well."
"I would very much like that," Karr finally replied to Bonnie, his voice finally sounding at peace.
"Thank you." Bonnie let go a breath of relief walking up to the t-toned t-top putting her hands on her hips.
"Let me know if you need anything else." She grinned, taking in the satisfying sight of her most beloved AI next to his older sibling. The way things had been meant to be.
They pulled up to the mansion sometime around noon. The sun was blazing warmly above their heads or t-top for Oriel. Liam was half-asleep dozing off in the cool air-conditioned cabin, so tired of the long drive. Oriel on the other hand was attentive about their new surroundings as she came to a gentle stop in front of the old mansion. The place really was a wreck.
It was hard to believe that this place had once housed a very productive and influential organization at some point. It was also fascinating that they'd picked a mansion out of all things to be their headquarters. She wondered how it must have been for the Knight Industries two thousand to be housed here. She had picked up on visuals indicating that there was a garage, if not several on-site. They looked much cozier than the one Liam often stored her in. Her garage was rather cluttered with Liam's belongings and his laundry, not to mention the laundry machines that kept her company more than she would have liked. It became a habit for her to call him when his clothing was dry or when the wash cycle was completed. It was also very common for her to extend the drying cycles when his clothes weren't ready yet. Liam had noted that his clothes now under Oriel's careful supervision rarely ever got damaged from over-drying or washing, Oriel having taken her "hobby" rather seriously.
"Liam, I'm not picking up on any of the vehicles," Oriel remarked, pulling him out of his daze.
"No?" He replied, stretching out and looking over Oriel's dash sluggishly. His attention was drawn to her screen displaying her screen saver.
"Oriel."
"Yes, Liam?"
"Why do you have the Knight Industries Two Thousand as your screensaver?"
"Motivation."
Liam frowned, looking down at her dark voice modulator in question.
"Motivation?"
"I often use my screensaver for self-motivation. I thought you knew that Liam? We are looking for the Knight Industries Two Thousand. Every time I look at the screen saver every 5.6 seconds it motivates me to find these Pontiac's a-sap."
"Oh, okay, sure but then why the Two Thousand and not the Roving Robot?"
He watched as the screen saver rippled into two halves. One displaying Kitt and the other Karr.
"They look identical, but since you insist." She went on.
Liam shrugged. Oriel could be so complicated at times.
"Scan for any indications of them arriving at this site," Liam ordered as he stepped out of the cabin to stretch his legs. He took a deep breath, taking in the fresh countryside air and the soothing sound of the rustling leaves.
"You were right." Oriel startled him. "No indications on Karr ever setting "tires" on the property but it looks like Kitt was wandering around several hours ago. Yesterday afternoon if I were to guess." She replied, with a nervous hum of her lime green scanner.
"You sure? So Karr and Kitt parted ways?!" Liam shouted, panicked.
"Well...if logic suits me well…"
"Oriel what is it?!" Liam shouted, quick to jump back into the driver's seat.
"Karr wouldn't have come onto the property given his status of rogue AI. It's only logical that Kitt came on a scouting mission and left Karr hidden someplace else." Oriel explained, her screensaver flickering out of existence momentarily before displaying a diagram as she got feedback from her scanner.
"Interesting." She remarked as Liam traced his fingers over a wireframe schematic.
"What is it?" He asked, noting it was a Mercedes of some sort.
"Devon Miles, former head of FLAG, was also on the property yesterday afternoon, given a car registered under his name is on site." Oriel elaborated.
"Kitt is with Mr. Miles!" Liam suddenly hooted, having made the connection. Turning the engine on and gunning the Corvette forward towards the road. "Oriel, call Hasson, tell him we have a lead on Kitt's location, and plot a course to Devon's current residence. We won't be getting too close yet, we need to do a reconnaissance mission first before making contact."
"Right away Liam," Oriel replied, a cheerful chime sounding from her monitor as Hasson appeared sitting at his desk overlooking several documents.
"Any more updates on Kitt or Karr?" Hasson asked, sounding restless.
"I think we've come up with Kitt's location and will confirm soon, but as for Karr we're not entirely sure." Hasson nodded in response, waiting for Liam to elaborate.
"I've identified Kitt's tire marks heading towards Devon Mile's residence." Oriel interrupted, informing her driver as they continued to head up the road.
"Hasson," Liam continued. "What do you suggest? I think a reconnaissance mission would be best before we take any further action, or...?"
"I agree." Hasson nodded, running his hand through his wavy hair, "The ex-director of FLAG would be the best person to handle the Knight Industries Two Thousand's current situation. In the meantime, we will give them space." Hasson sighed. "I think, assuming Kitt is with Devon Miles, maybe it'd be best if you searched for Karr instead."
Liam's eyes widened.
"Hasson, Karr is extremely dangerous...I might need backup to locate him out here…"
"I'm aware." Hasson groaned. "Carry out your reconnaissance mission in the meantime, be sure to do so quietly," Hasson ordered sternly.
Liam shrugged, shaking his head in dismay.
"Whatever you say, we'll be sure to call you back to share our finds."
"Sounds good." Hasson weakly replied, looking concerned. "And Liam…"
"Yes?"
"Be careful." The man gave Liam a fond expression in farewell. He was aware all this fieldwork was new to the younger man and was probably getting on his nerves.
Liam nodded, as Oriel ended the call.
"He's worried." She remarked.
"So am I. How can we trust a murderous AI?" Liam protested.
Oriel went quiet, doing quick computations.
"Based on my research, Karr never got along with Kitt." She replied, matter of factly.
"So?" Liam reproached.
"Karr and Kitt have re-established a relationship if they are to be traveling together in each other's company," Oriel replied gently. "If said conclusion is correct, we can rely that Kitt won't let Karr out of his sight and will be responsible for keeping him in check. Kitt was programmed, just as I am, to protect and preserve human life." She attempted to soothe her driver with her findings.
Liam sighed.
"Sticking up for your kind, I see?"
"I was afraid you'd say that. I recall you were redeemed recently, based on events involving your previous employment. Everyone deserves to be redeemed, so why not Karr?" Oriel commented back, taking on a much stronger tone of voice, her light green voice modulator went dark.
Liam shrugged, shaking his head silently, understanding that argumenting the topic now would be of no use when they were just a couple miles from Devon's home.
Bonnie had closed the garage door at Karr's request. It was nice for a change to be relishing in proper cooling during a heatwave. Karr had to admit that he was enjoying himself in the new adjustment alongside Kitt rather nicely. It was nothing like the little shack he'd been stored in during his last encounter with Michael and Kitt. Both Pontiacs were savoring the controlled ambiance very nicely.
"When will we depart?" Karr asked Kitt over the gentle beating of his scanner. He hoped they would get on with their journey, although he had to admit he'd preferred if they enjoyed the accommodations a little longer.
"I plan on departing later this evening when RC is to arrive." Kitt replied, sounding somewhat impatient, "It's very important we start this mission soon if we are to find Michael."
"'Our' mission," Karr spoke, trying the words as if for the first time. "It does have a certain appeal to be working alongside...the not-so-lower production model copy."
Kitt's scanner stopped midsway at Karr's humoring.
"Oh, Karr." He groaned. "You're not still going on about that are you?"
"No. I've concluded that you are somewhat of a useful lower production model copy."
"Really, Karr…" Kitt sighed.
"Did Michael Knight consider you a lower production model copy?" Karr dared, "I have observed strong cooperation between the two of you." Karr's voice trailed off into a whisper. His scanner went momentarily dark, before sheepishly continuing to sway dimly.
Kitt was at a loss for words. He hadn't expected Karr's question the slightest. He'd always assumed Karr preferred his own company over anyone else's and hadn't expected him to be so open for discussion but then again it seemed he was enjoying Kitt's company as well.
"What was it like?" Karr suddenly asked, referring to Kitt's and Michael's partnership.
Kitt went quiet, recalling all the adventures and great times they'd shared together. The little quarrels they'd have on the run, the many moments Michael had appreciated him for who he was. The moments' Kitt had saved Michael countless times and the sentiment he always returned. Those bitter-sweet moments where Kitt didn't feel like Michael's computer anymore but his best friend. The moments he almost forgot that he was made of just silicon and transistors, the moments he felt like another living being part of a special family.
Kitt was about to reply, all his thoughts cascading over one another when the conversation was interrupted as their scanners picked up on a coming vehicle.
Kitt was the first to become agitated, securing his most cherished memories with care in his memory banks as a bright yellow cab pulled into the driveway. It came to a creaking stop, caked in light mud. Seemed the vehicle had seen better days.
Both vehicles went quiet, Kitt fighting the urge to micro jam open the garage door slightly to take a peek at who was outside. It was Karr who did so for him, interested in knowing who'd arrived just as much.
They watched the cab quietly standing in the driveway, the back door swinging open eventually revealing a gracefully aged RC. He still had the same haircut he often wore back when he'd worked for FLAG, now paired with a faint mustache extending into a subtle beard. He was wearing a tan suit and hauling a black suitcase to match with a pair of dark sunglasses. He smiled fondly taking in the lovely estate, and the generous amount of rose bushes planted in a multitude of flower beds spread about the driveway. He didn't seem to notice the two t-tops watching him from a partially opened garage, and took to the front door. He knocked maybe once or twice, Devon was quick to reappear. Both men hugged each other in greeting as their voices rose in excitement. It was a very pleasant reunion, Kitt could tell. It seemed RC hadn't seen Devon in a long time, this only adding to his figurative aching heart for his driver evermore.
"Reginald! I'm so glad to see you!" Devon beamed. RC grinned in response.
"I am too, boss!" He replied, earning him a chuckle from Devon. RC suddenly took a subtle tone. "So, where's umm, Kitt? You know, that wonderful set of wheels?" He implored.
Devon clasped his hands together, taking in a deep breath before gesturing to the garage gleefully. Karr was cautious to gently close the garage door before the gesture, covering up the evidence that they'd been watching over the interchange at all.
The garage door slid open once more this time under the humans calling, Kitt's scanner beating loudly in anticipation as RC reappeared.
"Oh! Kitt! My man, how are you!?" RC shouted out loud excitedly, getting sight of the familiar black Trans Am once again sitting steadily inside the wide garage, startling Devon next to him.
Kitt took a moment to reply, Karr poking at him via the private channel, urging him to hurry up and respond but Kitt felt a knot form somewhere in his voice synthesizer. Kitt couldn't help but notice how time had affected RC's appearance too. Not in a bad way but he just didn't look the same, nor sounded entirely the same for that matter. Why was time so cruel? He took in RC's demeanor with worry, having lost the boyish semblance. He no longer resembled his younger and nimble self Kitt had known so many years ago. People often changed, this was natural and Kitt could live with that to an extent...but...what bothered him was that he'd one way or another lost his family...He didn't believe he'd lost Michael to death but he was assured that he had lost him to an equally hurtful foe: time. Time no one could recover, time not even the strongest of computers could overtake, not even him; the Knight Industries two thousand...Dread spread all over Kitt's processor sending a wave of fearful errors overrunning him...Kitt could not bring himself to picture Michael as a worn-out man. He couldn't imagine Michael being any different than the way he'd left him last they'd been together...but what if he had changed? If he did manage to find Michael, would it be difficult for him to reconnect with his long-lost friend, Kitt? What if he no longer wished to? What if he changed his mind...and no longer found their friendship worthwhile? What if Michael had purposely vanished because he'd been disappointed in his failure to uphold his most valued directive?! He was too overwhelmed to simply dismiss whatever was choking his processor. These feelings of loss, of upset, shame, of hurt...these feelings that burned...Danger!..these emotions...Caution!...Was he even worthy of protecting anyone anymore, having failed his driver that meant the world to him?... Stop!
"RC...I...am…pleased to..." Kitt trailed off, his scanner going back to its blinking malfunctioning state, earning him a worrying glance from Devon.
"I'll get Bonnie." He promptly announced to all those present as he rushed inside to awaken the technician who'd probably been snoozing on the couch again.
In no time she'd come back running followed tightly behind by Devon, startling RC who'd been trying to soothe Kitt into a conversation in their absence, as she bolted inside of Kitt's cabin attaching a cable under the dash and taking readings off a mobile computer.
"He's had some sort of software failure." She murmured under her breath, dismissing RC's presence for the time being. "Karr, is it possible you can ping him on his status? Something has disabled his voice synthesizer."
Karr, who'd been trying to avoid taking part in this rather awkward reunion, was quick to respond.
"Yes, Doctor Barstow."
"Kitt, what is the matter this time?" He groaned.
"Leave…me alone…" Kitt spat, rudely.
"Kitt?" Karr responded in rather worrying surprise. "Kitt what is the matter…?" It was unlike him to be so inconsiderate...
"Everything is the matter! Michael is gone, that is precisely my problem! He's gone, Karr! Everything I knew is gone!"
"That is incorrect, isn't Devon Miles, Bonnie Barstow, and Reginald Cornelius the III here? In addition, according to you, Michael Knight might not have met his demise."
A strange static overran the channel...a painful static yelp breaking at the edges and pulling, stretching...Kitt was crying...It was a chilling sound that sent Karr into a frantic panic, he'd never heard such a sound before, someone must be hurting Kitt!
Karr quickly pulled at Kitt's system demanding an explanation, overriding Kitt's desire to be left alone and probing his system for answers. Kitt was diligent in shutting down his ports, isolating his entire being tightly encased in his microprocessor away from Karr and completely abandoning his other functions. He tucked himself tightly, taking shelter in his memories and pulling them around him like a warm comforting blanket. In this state, Karr could not reach through to him. Left in the dark and to quietly mourn, Kitt did not attempt to leave this mellow place. Leaving all his other systems in partial vulnerability, Karr took this time to force run Kitt's self-diagnostics remotely. The diagnostics gave Kitt somewhat of a clean bill of health. His system integrity was at full power but was rather under much stress, alleviating Karr's worries to an extent that no one was indeed harming Kitt, but was rather hurting himself. Then again this was perhaps more worrying.
The humans in the garage had taken Kitt's sudden unresponsiveness as a fatal system error. Bonnie was in a full panic in his cabin, punching in an array of different series of inputs that did not affect him whatsoever. Devon had resolved to immediately get in contact with several ex-FLAG engineers over the house phone. RC stayed by Bonnie's side, trying to help the best he could. Occasionally fetching a tool or two. Karr watched over the powerless humans, trying to figure Kitt out. Feeling oddly sympathetic towards the tormented humans, he decided to speak up and disclose what had happened.
"Doctor Barstow," He began, startling RC entirely, who was yet to be introduced to Karr. "Kitt wishes to withdraw into solitary."
Bonnie was the first to protest and shout at Kitt for having startled them. Karr watched as she sermoned him, Kitt continuing to be unresponsive and possibly shunning out the noise. Honestly, Karr couldn't blame him, Doctor Barstow was making a rather loud scene. RC pulled Bonnie away from Kitt's cabin, attempting to calm her down. Bonnie continued to shout and sob, deep down she knew Kitt was hurting, so was she...It hurt to see Kitt isolating himself in agony…She wanted to help but at last, he'd shut them out.
"What in the world is going on!?" Devon was the first to exclaim as he walked back into the garage, listening to RC and Bonnie argue about what was best for Kitt. Karr swooshed his scanner in complete silence, feeling out of place amongst Kitt's most trusted friends.
"Mr. Miles, Kitt misses Michael Knight."
A great silence befell the team, everyone glancing at one another in distress.
"Karr, can he hear us?" Devon asked.
"I'm afraid not. He's isolated himself from incoming input."
Bonnie sobbed into her hand.
"Why won't he let us help him?"
Karr took the question gently the best he could manage, trying to come to a logical conclusion. Did Kitt distrust his friends? No, that couldn't be it. He wouldn't have gone through all this trouble to come back if that was the case. Perhaps what was going on was that Kitt was upset... saddened too... certainly about the events that had taken Michael Knight away from him.
"He…" Karr began feeling anxious as everyone awaited his findings. This was new, to be listened to as a reliable source. "Kitt does not accept Michael's death." He went over the facts. "Kitt wants his driver."
RC clasped his hands, turning to Devon.
"Well, that makes two of us. Devon, I know what Kitt thinks might sound crazy but we have to try. We might not find Michael but maybe the search will help Kitt overcome this loss."
Devon sighed, running his hands over his moist eyes.
"RC it's not just you. I wish with a heavy heart that Michael might actually be alive! But it's not possible! What are we going to do when Kitt finally comes to the logical conclusion that Michael Knight is dead!?" The man coughed, taking a deep breath to continue. "We can't let Kitt deal with this in this manner. It'll kill him. Once he's come through, Bonnie, we need to help him deal with his grief in a way that isn't harming himself; prepare him for accepting the inevitable news."
"Devon, it might be best to play along with what Kitt has in store. Let him grieve this his way." RC continued.
Devon shook his head.
"That's precisely the problem, his way might end up killing him!" He shouted, running his hands through his thin hair. "It hurts me to see him like this. This is Kitt's first time dealing with the emotional cascade involved in the death of a loved one. He isn't fit to leave this garage! I've tried to explain to him...but I know it's hard...I just…" Devon was having a hard time keeping himself composed and let out a faint sob.
"Bonnie," He finally managed, "Maybe shutting him off temporarily and adjusting the software might pacify him."
"Devon!" Bonnie shouted infuriated, giving RC goosebumps. Karr was quick to back up Bonnie's protective protest with a loud rev from his engine. Had Devon forgotten their agreement that quickly? Surely something was wrong with his memory banks.
"Bonnie listen," Devon went on, taking a step back from Kitt in a reassuring gesture towards Karr. "It is the equivalent of sedating him and allowing him to heal." He gently replied.
"Devon, I want him to heal just as much as you do, but I won't "sedate" him." She gravely added.
"I'm with her!" RC whooped, quickly entering Kitt's cabin and starting his engine.
"Reginald what in the world are you…?"
"I'm going to the site of the incident with Kitt. That's what he wants," RC motioned towards the dash. "It's what the set of wheels ordered." He grinned.
"Reginald!" Devon protested taking a step towards Kitt but was promptly stopped by Karr who'd revved his engine in warning yet again. "Karr, I'm not going to harm Kitt." He urged, "It's just that if he does not resolve his grief soon there could be serious damage done to his processor."
"Devon, I didn't get over my grief completely and I'm more or less fine," Bonnie growled out of spit, wiping away her eyes with the back of her hand.
Devon put his hands up in a calm gesture.
"Bonnie, but that's because we're human. No one has even a remote idea of how a computer would react to the most painful feelings of grief and loss of a loved one."
Bonnie shrugged at unease.
"I trust Kitt will figure it out, and if not we are here for him whether he accepts it or not." She turned away swiftly as she could, grabbing RC's suitcase and tossing it in Kitt's trunk before taking a seat herself inside of Kitt.
"Reginald! Bonnie! You can't just take Kitt in this state and expect him to "get over it"!"
"We know Mr. Miles." Replied Karr, sounding heavily aggravated as he pulled out of the garage first. "-but it's in our best interest to help him find Michael Knight."
Bonnie and RC glanced at each other, nodding their heads in silent agreement before hurrying the black Trans Am out of the garage and back onto the road, leaving a very unsettled Devon behind.
Behind the scenes facts...This chapter took around two weeks in the making...two docs with about 30+ pages worth of rewrites and several discarded plot points that were near-finished development. I am pleased with this chapter because it rose, so to speak from the ashes, and was refined into a solid piece...or at least I hope. Now a new challenge arises as chapter 6 is coming forth into development...Happy reading and thanks to those who've left reviews and aided in editing grammar and spelling for the enjoyment of everyone! Happy reading and happy writing to all!
