It took convincing but, she finally decided to listen to Chloe and go get checked out at GH. Dr. Meadows promised to call that afternoon since the lab was backed up. She went home earlier than expected. She had been fighting back waves of nausea all morning. All she wanted to do was head home and rest. As she stepped off the elevator, another wave of dizziness hit, just as Sonny was leaving his apartment.
He saw how unsteady she was and rushed to help. "Hey, hey. Alexis? You ok?"
She leaned against him, "I'm fine, just a bit dizzy."
"Let me help you get inside."
"Thanks." She replied as she passed him the key to her penthouse. He walked her over to the sofa and she leaned forward, as he sat beside her. "I'll be ok. It will pass in a minute."
"You're still not feeling well?" He asked knowing this wasn't the first time she'd been unsteady in the last few weeks. He placed his hand on her back, concerned. "Have you seen a doctor?"
She looked at him, annoyed, but before she could say anything Ned walked through the door, to find them sitting so close on the sofa. "What exactly is going on here?" He asked, agitated and Alexis pulled away.
"Nothing, Sonny was just helping me get inside. I've got it from here."
"Alexis, you just almost passed out getting off the elevator…" He said concerned, ignoring Ned's presence.
"She said she's fine, Corinthos. If she needs anything else I'm here." He said making it clear his presence wasn't needed as he went to her side.
"You want me to go?" Sonny asked Alexis directly.
"I appreciate your help, but really I'm feeling much better."
"Ok, well if you need anything, I'm across the hall."
"Thanks, really. I'm in good hands." She reached to take Ned's hand and reassure him.
Sonny nodded and let himself out as Ned turned to Alexis. "You passed out?" He worried as he sat next to her and rubbed her back.
"Almost. The key word there is almost. Sonny was there, by chance. That's all. What you just saw, it was nothing. Nothing." She said adamantly as she pulled away from him and positioned herself so she could look him in the eyes. "He knew I hadn't been feeling well lately and was concerned."
"How long has this been going on?" She didn't have an answer for him. "Alexis…"
"This isn't what you think it is."
"My wife almost passed out, and I come home to find her in the arms of a man who we both know has been pursuing you, and it's not a big deal?"
"He was trying to help, Ned. That's all." She said and stood up as the phone began to ring.
"Let the machine get it, we need to finish this conversation Alexis." He stated, aggravated as she started to cross the room to get the phone.
She stopped and turned to him. "I don't know what else there is to say, Ned," she stated exasperated. The machine started to pick up and they both stopped at the sound of Dr. Meadows' voice. "Alexis, this is Dr. Meadows I have your test results and…" Alexis hurried across the room to answer before she hung up..
"Hello, hello? Dr. Meadows?"
"Alexis hi, I was just calling with your results."
"So, what do they say? What's wrong with me?"
"Nothing is wrong, Alexis, in fact I'm happy to tell you that you're pregnant."
"What? Are you sure?" She was shocked, as she thought back to the tests she had taken.
"I'm sure, congratulations."
"But it was negative. I took a test and it was negative."
"All I can tell you is that home tests are not always 100% accurate. You could have had a defective or expired test kit, but I would like you to make an appointment to come in this week for an exam and we can see how far along you are. I have an opening at 10:00 tomorrow if you're available."
"Ok, yes I can make that work. Thank you." She finished her conversation with Dr. Meadows and hung up the phone. Ned had walked closer towards her, his concern growing.
"Honey…? What test results?" He asked, reaching for her hands. She was quiet, still processing the news and took his hands and walked over to the sofa, sitting down. He sat on the coffee table across from her. Worried.
"I had an appointment earlier today, Chloe, Chloe- convinced me to get checked out… and she was calling to tell me that… I'm pregnant." She said, a small smile spreading across her face.
"Pregnant? Is she sure?" He asked, stunned, processing this sudden twist of fate.
"Yes." They both sat letting the news sink in, in the quiet he moved onto the sofa next to her. She looked at him. "This is good news…isn't it?" She asked quietly, trying to read his expression.
He took her hand. "Of course it is."
"Because you know, when I first thought I could be…I thought about the timing. Is this the right time to bring a baby into this world…with us where we are…We're in a fragile place."
"We will be fine, and a new baby is only going to bring us closer. This is good news." She nodded and smiled and leaned into him, resting her head on his shoulder.
"I'm sorry… I overreacted," he was calm and kissed the top of her head. "It's just seeing you with him…"
"I know. And I'm sorry that I didn't tell you what was going on. I just didn't want to worry you while you were away."
"But I'm home now and you keeping things from me. That's what worries me." He paused before continuing "I know you like to gather facts and know what you're dealing with before you do anything, but you don't have to face things alone. I'm your husband, Alexis. Lean on me."
"I know that and I'm sorry." She whispered, as she wrapped her arms around him.
Meanwhile, Jillian sat at the bar of Port Charles Grille on her cell phone. "I can't say definitively why he hasn't taken over as CEO yet."
"Didn't you discuss this when you were negotiating? I know my son and plotting the strategy, making deals, it's in his blood. This should have been all he needed to want to take back over." Tracy blasted. "And I gave you everything you needed to make that happen."
"I'd say it's his wife. She's a problem I didn't anticipate."
"I begged Ned not to marry her." She agreed. "Well are you taking care of this or do I need to come to Port Charles myself?" She got rid of Jenny and Lois, she was sure she could take on his latest catastrophe of a marriage, marrying a Cassadine, it was utterly ridiculous. She had heard they had briefly separated and saw this as her opening.
"I've got it under control." She motioned to the bartender and he brought her another martini. She finished the call and drummed her fingers on the manilla envelope containing exactly what she needed to end his marriage and send him running straight back to ELQ and into her bed.
