Chapter 503

Not sure that she was really seeing what she thought she was seeing, Elain squinted into the sky. "Is that…?"

"What is that?" Sheera asked, excitement just about oozing out of her in waves that washed over Elain. It was contagious. Elain bounced on the balls of her feet.

"It has wings." Nesta commented, and Elain bounced some more.

"It does…" She agreed, her breath catching as she was able to make out the shape in the sky. It had become several shapes. Several shapes with wings, and she gasped when she realised that several winged horses were making their way toward them. "Oh my…"

Beside them, Ashk chuckled slightly, and Elain glanced at her, grinning widely.

"Of course he would get these out." Nesta said, but she sounded light-hearted and even a little excited herself.

Elain returned her attention to the skies above them and she watched as the impressive creatures grew even closer. They were going to land in the courtyard, she realised, and she bounced on the balls of her feet again. "Look at them…" She breathed, "They're majestic."

The horses circled as they descended, and Elain's mouth dropped open when she saw that Lucien sat atop one of them, his fiery hair shining like molten metal in the afternoon sunlight as it fluttered about him in the air. Unable to look away, Elain watched her mate descending atop the Pegasus he rode, and she could barely breathe. Lucien looked utterly magnificent; like some heroic Fae Lord from any of the books up in any of Helion's libraries. Elain could very easily picture the scene before her as part of the climax of some romance novel where the hero comes to save his lover, and she wanted nothing more than to run across the courtyard to where the Pegasus was trying to land.

Lucien was the first down, and Elain couldn't hold herself in place anymore. She darted forward, only half watching the sky as the others descended and landed around her. Ducking and weaving, she did not stop until she came to where Lucien grinned down at her, still astride the horse, and she smiled up at him, taking in the wonderful sight before her. The Pegasus was truly an impressive beast, all muscle and power, and Lucien looked absolutely perfect where he was atop it. If anyone had met him for the first time in this moment, they would have had no trouble believing that he was the son of the High Lord of the Day Court, and Elain found herself speechless as she just looked up at him.

"Want a ride?" Lucien asked, leaning down and offering her his hand. Before she had even taken a moment to process that question, Elain had grasped his hand and he had pulled her up onto the horse's back with him. There was no saddle, and she clung to the thing with her thighs as she wrapped her arms around Lucien and pressed herself into his back.

"I've read about these…" She breathed, and Lucien looked at her over his shoulder.

"Nothing prepares you for actually seeing them, though, does it?" He stroked the beast's neck, and Elain agreed as she looked around the courtyard. All up, there were five of the magnificent creatures now in the courtyard, and Helion sat atop the largest, looking as magnificent as anyone would have expected. Ashk stood before him, and Elain watched as the High Lord swung himself down onto the ground and strode toward her. Nearby, Sheera and Nesta were approaching another of the horses, and the awe was clear in both of their faces.

"How about that ride?" Lucien asked, and Elain couldn't help an excited giggle as she tightened her arms around his waist and nodded her head against his back.

"Oh, yes."
