"You're a Jedi, and you guys are supposed to protect this planet, why are you just sitting around?" Luke asked, first looking at Tommy, then the rest of the team. The six teens along with Luke, Leia, and Han, had changed out of their normal clothes and changed into Gi's Luke borrowed a spare of Tommy's, Leia one of Kat's, and Han one of Jason's For the last hour, Tommy and Jason had been teaching their new friends Karate.
"Like what?" Zack asked as he wiped his forehead.
"Like go after whatever that thing was," Luke answered as if it were the most obvious thing in the world.
"Luke, Zedd, and Palpatine called it back to the moon. We have to be patient. The next move is theirs," Tommy said placing his hand on Luke's shoulder trying to get him to see reason.
"Can you at least teach me about The Force?"
"I'm trying to teach you patience, which is important for a Jedi. Your formal training, that's for another."
"If not you then who?"
"In time Luke, in time," Tommy said with a smile. "Kat, want to help me walk these guys through the new Kata I showed you?"
"Yeah, sounds like fun," Kat said as she set her water bottle down on a bench at the side of the training room. Suddenly, the alarm began to blare.
"Rangers I'm afraid that will have to wait," Zordon said. "Zedd and Palpatine's monster has returned."
"Oh no! It's headed for The Youth Center! Aye aye aye aye aye!" Alpha said clearly in a panic.
"We're on it," Tommy said before looking at Luke and the others. "You guys better stay here, those exo-suits won't give you enough protection against that thing."
"Wait, why not take us with you? We can handle ourselves," Luke protested.
"Leave me out of this one kid," Han said, "I saw what that thing did to these guys. Special suits or not, we don't stand a chance."
"Tommy's right, Luke. We sit this one out," Leia said looking at Luke with sympathy in her eyes.
"Alright guys, let's do it. It's Morphin' Time! Dragonzord!
"Mastadon!"
"Pteradacyle!"
"Sabertooth Tiger!
"Tyranasourus!"
The rangers steaked away in colored beams of light landing in the parking lot of The Youth Center, Just ahead of Doom Bringer.
"Rangers!" Doom Bringer yelled in a shrill voice as it summoned its scythe. The rangers said nothing, they only silently summoned their weapons. Tommy held The Dragon Dagger in his left hand in a reverse grip as he stood in the opening stance of Soresu.
"Jason, go in slowly on the left, Billy, circle behind, Trini take the right," Tommy said as he and Doom Bringer glared at one another.
"What about us?" Zack asked.
"Use your axe's cannon mode, along with Kat's bow to hit that thing from a distance. Remember we want to get it to Follow us out of the city."
"Right," the other rangers said together as they began to move according to Tommy's plan.
Back in The Command Center, The Rebels and the ranger's parents gathered around The Viewing Globe. "James, Monica, I can surely say two things about that young man, he's something special, and apparently, he's quite the field commander," William said. They watched as Tommy used his lightsaber to first block a strike from Doom Bringer before angling the blade so that the curved blade would slide down it.
"What? How did the lightsaber not cut right through that thing?" Jason asked in shock as he jabbed the tip of his Power Sword into Doom Bringer's right side causing it to howl in a mixture of pain and fury. The monster born of Zedd's Black Magic and Sideious' Sith Alchemy turned to face the red ranger only to have its back impaled by The Power Lance, and its left side slashed by one of Trini's daggers.
"It must be lightsaber-resistant," Trini said as she jumped back, narrowly avoiding one of Doom Bringer's inky tenticles as it lashed out in anger. seeing an opening, Kat fired an arrow, and Zack an energy bolt, both projectiles struck at center mass and caused the creature to roar in pain and stubble.
"Alright guys, let's lead this thing out of town," Tommy said and he and the other rangers began to fall back. In its furry Doom Bringer followed as the rangers fired at it with their Blade Blasters, and Tommy the blaster he had been given by General Riekeen whenever it looked as if the creature was losing interest in following them.
"Thanks," James said taking a moment to glance over at William. "That is my brother's influence," he added with a laugh.
"Your brother?" Heather asked.
"Yeah, he's the captain of an aircraft carrier in The Navy, before that, he was a SEAL."
"He adores Tommy," Monica said with a smile. "Whenever he has leave, he spends as much of it as he can with us."
"Well, whatever the case," Allen Scott said placing his hand on James' shoulder. "You two must be proud."
"Yeah, proud before we knew all of this," James said as he watched his son and the other rangers continue to lead Doom Bringer further and further from the heart of the city and toward a heavily wooded area near the Northern edge of town.
On the moon, Zedd and Sidious watched as the battle played out. "What is Doom Bringer doing?" Zedd asked with a growl.
"Have patience, my friend," Sidious said placing his hands on the balcony's railing."Sooner or later, this Tommy Oliver will be destroyed or join me, and once again, The Jedi will be no more."
"And the others, Lord Sidious?" Goldar asked. Darth Sidious turned and looked at the golden-armored alien with a smile that made his skin crawl. "Goldar I sense you are worried. Do not be. I am sure your loyal service to your master will be rewarded, and you will have your well-deserved revenge."
"Yes," Goldar said elongating the S until it sounded like a growling hiss.
"Time to end this," Zedd said as he caused a growth bomb to materialize in his hand. "Gow Doom Bringer!" the alien warlord shouted as he tossed the bomb to Earth.
"Guys look," Kat said having caught sight of the growth bomb. Doom Bringer snatched the bomb from the air with one of his tenticles, pulled the pin, and slammed it to the ground. Now grown to giant form the creature slammed one of its tenticles to the ground causing the rangers to scatter.
"We need Thundrzord Power now!" the rangers called as Tommy called The Dragon Dagger to his hand.
"Dragonzord, Thunderzord Power!" Tommy yelled before playing the summoning tune.
"Mastadon, Lion Thunderzord Power!"
"Pteradactyle, Firebird Thunderzord Power!"
"Triceratop, Unicorn Thunderzord Power!"
"Sabertooth Tiger, Griffin Thunderzord Power!
"Tyrannosaurus, Red Dragon Thunderzord Power!" The rangers Original Zords charged, answering the call, and were struck by bolts of lighting transforming into their upgraded forms. The rangers lept to their Zords and immediately went on the attack. Tommy and Jason with fire from their Zords mouths. Zack with a purple beam fired from the green jewel on the lion's back. Kat fired blue energy rings from the Firebird's beak. Billy launched large boulders with precision, and Trini fired yellow lighting from the Griffin Zord's eyes. The Creature shrugged off the blows and lashed out at The Dragonzord, narrowly missing when Tommy willed his Zord into a steep climb.
"Alright guys, Thunder Megazord formation," Tommy said as he began shifting his Zord into its warrior mode. The other five Zords quickly formed the Samurai-like Megazord. and the green medieval knight landed next to it, with its broadsword at the ready. Doom Bringer slashed its scythe at The Thundermegazord which Jason and the others narrowly dodged. Taking advantage of the opening Tommy slashed at the creature with his Zord's sword striking it across the chest.
"You'll pay for that, Power Punks!" Doom Bringer shouted in its shrill voice as it struck a tentacle at The Dragonzord. Tommy attempted to dodge out of the way but was not quite quick enough. The tentacle struck the Zord's shoulder joint knocking it off balance and sending it toppling to the ground.
"Hang on Tommy," Jason said as he moved the Thundermegazord into a defensive position in front of Tommy's Zord. A second tentacle struck the Zord's chest causing sparks to erupt in the cockpit.
"Jason, he hit us hard," Billy said.
"Another one like that, and were done for," Zack added.
"Then let's not give him the chance," Tommy said as he brought his Zord to its feet. "I call on the power of Tor, and The Thunderultrazord!" Green lightning struck the ground not far from where the three battled and a gigantic robotic tortis appeared with a single golden horn protruding from its head. It roared at Doom Bringer before firing its twin cannons at the creature and knocking it off of its feet.
"Whoa! That thing packs a serious punch," Kat said.
"You can say that again," Trini added.
"Thunderultrazord Power now!" all the rangers called out. The Thundermegazord broke apart and formed The Thunder Assault Chariot. The Dragonzord lifted into the air and transformed back into its Dragon Mode. It hovered over Tor and slowly lowered as lighting bolts flashed between the two massive Zords. With a metallic clank the two Zords fused together with Tor wedge between the Dragonlord's legs, as its neck and tail lowered and straightened until they stuck out from above the front and rear of the large tortis. The winds became rigid and stuck out sideways from the body of The Dragonzord. Finally, The Assault chariot landed on The Dragonzord's back, and the other rangers joined Tommy in The newly expanded cockpit of The Dragonzord.
"Let's send Doom Bringer packing," Tommy said as he grabbed the controls.
"Right," the others said together. Tommy rammed the throttle forward and four powerful engines in Tor's feet lifted the massive battle machine off of the ground with little effort. When they reached a safe altitude, Tommy flipped a switch, and the four legs angled backward sending the Zord rocketing forward, surpassing Mach 1 almost instantly, and shattering the sound barrier with a thunderous boom. The Zord's wings swept back offering greater maneuverability at high speed.
"Hold on, banking to engage," Tommy said as he banked the Zord hard to the left.
"Shields up," Billy said.
"Weapons charged to full," Jason said.
"Targeting system functional," Kat said.
"Scope's clear of any civilian signatures," Trini said.
"Emergency fire suppression system ready to deploy," Zack added just as Tommy completed the turn.
"Lock on and fire all weapons!" Tommy ordered. The targeting system locked on to Doom Bringer as it got back to its feet.
"Fire!" the rangers yelled. Tor's cannons began to glow red along with all the eyes of the assembled Zords. Beams shot out in front of the massive Zord forming and raining down mercilessly on the doomed creature. Doom Bringer let out a hellish scream before exploding. As the massive Zord flew over where the monster was, Zack deployed a harmless foam to drown the fires that had formed as a result of Doom Bringers Destruction.
"NO! DEFEATED AGAIN!" Zedd roared in anger as he slammed his fist down on the railing.
"These rangers may pose a more serious challenge than I had expected. Lord Vader, we will return to our own dimension. There we will consult The Dark Side on how to deal with this new Jedi and his friends."
"Yes, Master," Vader said emerging from the shadows of the throne room. "Commander open the dimensional gateway, and prepare for The Emperor's return." An instant later a gateway to an Imperial Facility appeared and Sidious and Vader walked through, leaving Zedd and his minions alone.
"You kids did great!" Heather said as she ran up and hugged her daughter as soon as they teleported to The Command Center.
"Thanks, Mum," Kat said as she returned the hug. The rangers all smiled at one another as their parents congratulated them on the battle.
"Everyone I think it might be best if we show our faces at home and work again," Allen Scott said as the excitement finally died down.
"Rgiht, I assume you'll bring us here at the first sign of Darth Vader?" William Hillard said looking at Zordon.
"Yes, Mister Hillard," Zordon replied.
"Hey Kat, how about a walk in the park?" Tommy asked looking at the Australian girl.
"Yeah, then maybe we could stop by Ernie's and get a sandwich or something?"
"Absolutely," Tommy said with a smile. "Meet you at the park?"
"Sounds good," Kat said with a nod before everyone teleported home.
Both Tommy and Kat changed out of their Gi's and headed to the park. They met at the park's southern entrance and smiled at one another. Tommy now wore black denim jeans, a green tee shirt with a vertically striped green and white button-down shirt that he had left unbuttoned overtop, and black hiking boots. Kat wore dark blue denim jeans, a pink and white sweatshirt, and matching sneakers.
"Hey, you look nice," Kat said as she wrapped her right arm around Tommy's left.
"So do you," he said smiling at her as they walked into the park.
"Any plans for New Year's?" she asked as a group of teens they recognized from school passed them on rollerblades.
"No, nothing as of now. Jason says Ernie usually stays open late. I might just go hang out there. How about you?"
"No, but, Ernies sounds like it could be fun. If you wouldn't mind the company that is."
"Yeah, that would be great. Want me to pick you up?"
"Eight at my place?"
"Sure," Tommy said with a smile. The two walked arm-in-arm in a comfortable silence for a while until they reached the sandy shore of the lake that was the designated swimming area in the summer. It was then that Tommy felt a familiar echo in The Force coming from the bottom of the lake. He stopped and looked out over the peaceful water, a confused look on his face.
"Tommy, is something wrong?"
"No, at least, I don't think so," he said taking a tentative step toward the water. He looked around and when he saw they were alone, he raised his communicator to his mouth. "Zordon, Alpha come in."
"I read you, Tommy, what's the emergency?" Zordon answered.
"No emergency, but I sense something at the bottom of Angel Grove Lake. Can our suits handle being underwater?"
"In the short term, yes, but not for more than a few minutes."
"Understood, I'd like to call The Dragonzord and investigate."
"Very well, Alpha, and I will monitor the situation from here. Good luck."
"Thanks, Zordon, Tommy out," he said before looking at Kat.
"Want to come along?"
"Yeah," Kat said with a nod and reached behind her back for her morpher.
Tommy glanced around again, and once again saw no one. "It's Morphin' Time! Dragonzord!"
"Pteradactyle!"
"Dragonzord Thunderzord Power! Tommy called before once again summoning his Zord. Both he and Kat lept to The Dragon Zord, Tommy taking his usual seat, and Kat standing behind his chair, lightly gripping it in her hands. Tommy gently set the Zord down at the center of the lake, then submerged it, taking it down to the very bottom of the lake.
A few minutes later, following guidance from The Force, Tommy piloted the Zord along the bottom of the lake until he was in front of a small alcove. He stopped the Zord and looked intently at the small opening between two large rocks, that looked to be just wide enough for someone to enter. "Is whatever you sense in there?" Kat asked as she followed Tommy's gaze down to the opening.
"Yeah, I think so," he said as he stood and hit a hidden switch that opened the cockpit's rear panel, which was behind Kat. "Come on, there's an airlock in the front right foot."
"Right behind you," Kat said as she followed Tommy down a long ladder, and then another until they came to the airlock Tommy had mentioned.
"Ready?" he asked, his index finger on the button that would flood the small chamber.
"Let's do it," Kat said with a nod. Within seconds the chamber was flooded with water and the exterior door opened allowing the two rangers to exit into the lake. They swam the short distance to the alcove and upon entering it, swam straight up until they emerged in an air pocket.
"Watch your foot and hand hold's, no telling how sturdy this actually is," Tommy said as the two began to slowly climb up the rocky wall of the underwater cave.
A few short minutes later Tommy pulled himself over the edge, and into a large flat chamber. He reached down and helped Kat up. "Wow, we're probably the first people to be here, or at least in a long, long time," Kat said as she glanced around.
"Yeah," Tommy said in an almost trance-like tone as he walked forward towards a pile of rocks. "Well, well well," he said as both he and Kat who had jogged to catch up with him, saw a white glow coming from beneath the pile. Tommy began to move some of the rocks aside and a few seconds later, Kat saw a small clear crystal float up into the air revealing itself as the source of the white light. Tommy held his hand out with his palm up and the crystal changed from white to green as it settled into his waiting palm. "How did you get here?"
"Tommy, is that what I think it is?"
"Yeah, a Kyber Crystal."
